Da'Quan Bowers, now that is a surprise. The nations leading sack man last season and the leader in tackles for a loss. Big strong defensive end, #1 high school prospect coming early in his career.

Here were his career statistics at Clemson.
45 career tackles for a loss (26 were last year)
19.5 career sacks (15.5 were last year)
179 career tackles (74 were last year)
47 quarterback pressures (20 were last year)

Clearly a little top heavy, and personally I greatly disliked his underachievement at Clemson his sophomore and junior seasons. Obviously turned it around and played great this past junior year. People say he is lazy, well can see that his first two years but hard to call him lazy with that type of one year production.

I have not been following his pro days or workouts as closely as I should have, so what is actually wrong with this guys knee?

Underwent a meniscus surgery, took a very long time to recover, didn't look fully healed at his pro day, then this news came out yesterday, which I'm assuming is true, hence the reason for his fall:

NFL Network's Albert Breer has spoken with one team in the top half of the draft that has taken Da'Quan Bowers off its board completely.

The team's doctors failed Bowers, and Jay Glazer is reporting on NFL Network that Bowers does indeed have a "bone-on-bone" condition in his knee. Speculation around the league is that Bowers will be a "one-contract" player due to long-term concerns about the meniscus. The Bucs at 20 are a popular mock choice, though GM Mark Dominik has hinted that the Patriots are a team to watch. That may be optimistic at this point.

one major injury there could probably end his career.

he's strictly a 4-3 end is he not? I can't really see him playing in a 3-4

It's funny how teams will go crazy because a player is a contract player because of injury, but not because of age.

Depends on the type of 3-4 he would go to. In the Ravens system (3-4 over) he would be a good fit since the end spot we have a need at basically plays the same as a 4-3 LDE. As a traditional 5-technique I really don't think that's his best fit and I don't see him standing up either.

as round 2 goes on the reward is gonna outweigh the risk imo

If he got to the Lions in round 2... Their line would be KVB, Suh, Fairley, Bowers. . .

If Bowers could stay healthy that would be insane. I know they need help everywhere, but the two seconds your QB is getting would make those DBs and LBs look a ton better.
