Compressing all non-Vikings MN sports talk into this thread and closing the others.

Saw Ralph Sampson III declared for the draft. 2012 WNBA Draft looks like it could be a keeper.

Going to post some links to articles that we've posted at Land of 10,000 Losses as a shameless plug and to try to get you guys to become regular readers. I update our Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/10kLosses) and it's full of extremely sarcastic comments that will probably make you laugh as well. Follow us or die. I also may be contacting one or two of you to help contribute on occasion.

Liriano with the no-hitter. He was far from perfect(6 BB:2 K), but it was a huge improvement from what he has been doing.

I want Irving, but that won't happen. I hope we trade Beasley and take Williams.

06-06-2011, 04:11 PM
I would be perfectly alright with that, Beasley really isn't a guy you're going to go places with despite his talent. He's just a scorer, and doesn't really even try to do any thing else. I get the idea we're really looking to trade out of the #2 spot though which would work as well. Trading down a few spots can still land us a solid contributor, the draft class is a little underrated in the sense that there are a lot of guys who will fill roles for teams but won't be all stars. If we could trade down into the late part of the top 10, grab Biyombo, and pick up another first next year in what will be a better class that would be perfect.

Really though can you see us just staying pat and taking the safe pick in Williams? Do we ever make the obvious move? I think Kahn has some tricks up his sleeve, hopefully they aren't too stupid this time.

prock

Agreed. We won't do the logical. If we could figure a trade with the Wizards and grab their first next year, I would be ecstatic. I am a huge Biyombo fan as well. I think he will be a very good player in the league, and exactly the kind of center we need.

Ben Revere is growing on me. His good routes+range combination will keep him in the major leagues for a very long time. Guy just needs to draw some damn walks and he'll be very valuable. Fun to watch.

Agreed. I used to hate him, but man, he is really fun to watch.

The Twins are unreal.
The first 8 guys get hits last night, against a super pitcher who dominated in the World Series and had a 3 ERA coming into the game.
Twins red hot, and none of it is thanks to the M&M's Mauer and Morneau. That speaks volumes.

Timberwolves draft tomorrow!
I suspect they will end up making a deal, if not before the pick, sometime this summer.
They need to get Derrick Williams into a Wolves jersey. He's a nice compliment to Kevin Love. Perfect 3 & 4 combo. I know they want a center, but don't pass on the best player in the draft.

And they better not trade Love.

Derrick Williams is a terrible compliment to K-Love because he is not a 3.

What is Williams best position?
What is Love's?
What about guarding people?

Someone please recap and translate/decipher/interpret/grade all what the Wolves got tonight with their 2 top-20 picks + former top 5 pick Flynn.

prock
06-26-2011, 07:40 PM
Flynn was the 6th pick.

We got Derrick Williams, Brad Miller, Malcom Lee, and a future 1st.

Williams is a 4 who can play the 3 if he has to. Love is only a 4. Love can't guard anyone anyway. Williams is too slow footed to guard 3's, but he can guard the 4 fine, in my opinion. We just have a log jam. Wes is a 3 forced to play the 2, Williams is a 4 forced to play the 3. Defensively, that sucks.

The thing is though if the Grizzlies aren't in the lottery this year we get a 2016 2nd round pick instead of the 1st. So that's cool.

I'm not sure what you're talking about as far as the Grizz pick that we acquired. My understanding was that it was top 14 protected from '13-'16 and if not given to us by then, turns into a 2nd. So basically as long as the Grizz make the playoffs in one of those years, the pick is ours.

Wild look about 50 times better with what Fletcher has done this year. Very excited about the future.

Also, Cuddyer is destroying the ball right now. Did not see this coming, but I can't complain.

This might be the homer in me talking but I really think we're going to do it. We're 24-10 in our last 34 without Span/Thome/Mauer/Kubel for varying stretches of that. Pitching has been incredible.

Also we have the whole "we never ******* lose in the second half of the season" thing going for us.

Horrible season. They finally spent some big time money, and this is what the ownership gets for all that cash?

Now, bye bye Thome. Who would have thought he'd have to go back to Cleveland to get a sniff of a pennant race.

Pathetic.

Hell of a game by the Wild last night. Those of you who aren't interested, you better get interested right now. Heatley/Koivu/Setoguchi looked dominant last night. Setoguchi and Heatley both scored absolute beauties.

If you're a MN sports fan it's hard not to be interested. The Wild are our only hope right now. Just get in the playoffs. Playoff hockey with someone to root for is unbelievable, anyone can beat anyone.

I think its just that we can't play a full game. The Islanders game is a perfect example the first period was brutal but we dominated the second two periods now we start off fast and let up towards the end. We were lucky to get a point out of that.

We need to put whole games together though. We got completely dominated in the first period and then showed what we're capable of in the third. Show some damn consistency.

Things like that even out. For example we never should have lost that game against the Islanders last week, we dominated the last two periods. Heatley was pretty awesome last night, hopefully he keeps that up.

So inconsistent period to period. Can't argue with where we're at though, other than the injuries. Pretty damn thin at defense at the moment.

Wolves preview as written by my buddy for our blog. Let me know what you think.Under estimate them. Sure safe pick is to believe the Wolves will be bad this year.

But fact is JJ Barea is a fine guard in the NBA and will provide the Wolves with a one two small guard offense. Barea being a scoring guard naturally and Rubio being pass first point guard.

On top of that, Derrick Williams is a physical beast and could arguably play the 4 or the 3 and possibly the 2 position against weak ball handling 2 guards. They can do so much with their lineup with guys like Beasley, Randolph, Darko, Lee, Johnson etc...

And you still have Beasley who can give you 20 any night at random and Kevin Love now can bomb three point shots apparently even better than he did before.

I think the Wolves will be much improved and if they finish 26-40 that would be a huge disappointment.

Time to win is now for them, no reason why they cannot. They have the players, the depth and should be a damn fun team to watch....

Well lets hope so, but sure it is just preseason but the preseason game tonight was wildly entertaining and show cased just how good Rubio and Derrick Williams could be....

Wolves have not had a rookie as exciting as Derrick Williams for a long long time...

Blown away by Ricky Rubio. Potential franchise changer.
Great win tonight over the 76ers, clutch foul shouts from the Lover to win it... big 3 pointer too.
Rubio was great, his most points in a game in over 4 years.

And this: The three Timberwolves rookies were hazed with new backpacks at their stalls in the locker room before the game. Rubio's was purple with a picture of teen pop star Justin Bieber; Malcolm Lee's was pink featuring the "Hello Kitty" cartoon; and Derrick Williams had a pink depiction of Disney princesses. Adelman said he hadn't heard about the prank but immediately suggested veteran Brad Miller as the culprit.

Damn, awful shooting last night in Denver by both Love & Rubio.
Both guys shot horseschit... had one of them just hit a few shots more, they'd have won.

Bad loss in OT to the Nuggies who were missing perhaps 2 of their best 3 players.

Martell Webster failed math.

Man, **** the Twins. They've got about four major league caliber hitters: Span, Mauer, Willingham, and Morneau(who's hurt), and are lucky if they have one MLB caliber starting pitcher and a couple MLB caliber relievers.

At least Sano is tearing up low A at 18(will be 19 in 4 days). I'm actually going to be going to watch him(and Eddie Rosario) in Beloit in a couple weeks as long as he's still there. It's less than a three hour drive from where I live, so me and a couple friends are gonna go watch them.

Released Beasley and Randolph. I'm perfectly fine with them no longer being around, though Beasley's scoring off the bench is nice.

"Don't you know who i am....... i'm ******* Zach Parise!"

That's what Zach Parise told my neighbor back at UND when my neighbor confronted Zach for trying to get my neighbor's girlfriend to blow him.

That's what i will always think of whenever i hear Parise's name.

Great signings today, though. Just what the Wild need to get the crowds back in the stands.

Top 10 Wild prospects according to me

1) Mikael Granlund, F
2) Jonas Brodin, D
3) Charlie Coyle, W
4) Mathew Dumba, D
5) Matt Hackett, G
6) Jason Zucker, W
7) Zach Phillips, C
8) Brett Bulmer, W
9) Johan Larsson, W
10) Raphael Bussieres, F

Granlund and Brodin are pretty much 1A and 1B to me. I can't wait for Brodin. It's good to be a Wild fan right now. Don't **** up this CBA, NHL

I'd probably kill a man if it could snag Buzz Williams to the Gophers.. but I think he may have gone out of our "range" of possible hires by making the Elite 8.
