Boy, how do you guys think reffing in all sports should be improved. I hear all the time about bad calls the refs made. In tennis there ahve been numerous bad calls. Once in a soccer game in my city, the ref blew the wistle and then said "play on". Even in my hockey game on Sunday. My team was winning 4-1 with approx 7:00 minutes to go (my team has only won one game and it is the playoffs) Then the ref calls two penalties on us. During the 5 on 3 they get a penalty shot that our goalie stopped. Then they disallow one of our goals. THEN they give the other team a FREE goal (hockey fans who have ever heard of that). We won 4-3. The point is is that what do you guys think should be done to improve refs in all levels of every sport or competition. Thoughts.......

really the leagues need to crack down on bad reffing. if you make a bad call get a fine or something, not an over amount but still. with challenges the amount of bad calls should be down but its still up there...

There's no way to change it you can't just say teach them better cause humans will make mistakes. As for computerized reffing or whatever you might as well not have humans playing than.

i think any questionable call by a ref should be allowed to be challenged

Sure refs make tons of mistakes, but they're still human. You can't be perfect. When baseball tried using the computerized strike zone, it was a disaster. I guess you just have to put up with them.

Sure, they're human. But this is their JOB. At least be objective in calls. Respect for good players is natural, but when it is blatantly obvious that a superstar player receives the tiniest calls in his favor, the refs are obviously doing a horrible job at officiating. Furthermore, refs just suck at making no calls for flops. Is it seriously that hard to catch Manu flopping all his fouls?

Of course fans complain when they see the calls in slow-motion on tv, it's different at game speed with everything moving so fast.

for any one complaining you try and carefully watch a matchup of randy moss and champ bailey, see how well you can judge what they are doing, then if you can do that perfectly you can complain

I agree, we have the right to get mad, but there are going to be mistakes, we just gotta deal.

My goalie dropped his stick, a guy shot, he missed, but the refs thought my goalie shot his stick

Well how about football? Most of those guys do it to be around the NFL, and go home to six figure salaries at their real job during the week, thus making more at their real job then they do reffing NFL games...

in the end people will make mistakes but...
in a lot of ways I think parents should be banned from their kids games if they can't act in an appropriate manner. I know a number of people who quit reffing because of the abuse they constantly received from the parents. They aren't paid enough to take the sh*t that they end up taking. Now that is only for minor league sports.
As for professional sports I think that there needs to be greater overisght and accountability. But also the leagues need to be crystal clear (especially the NHL) on what calls refs are expected to make every time and which ones they have the ability to call at their discretion.
In basketball travelling is rarely called but is done all the time. In football there is holding on virtually every play but it is rarely called. Do you expect that these calls would be made or are you okay with the refs turning a blind eye to such infractions?

Get rid of bad refs. In the last world cup italy got screwed cuz the refs sucked. But in other games the refs were good, so have a test for the refs, if he fails no ref...
