We've done it before so why not, especially with all the injuries we've seen so far.

Mikel LeShoure tore his achilles and is out for the year. Out for the year, sucks a lot.

DEVASTATING and very impactful injury here.
This guy had a chance to have a sensational rookie year for the Lions and he was going to be an Arian Foster-like fantasy pick for some people.

This is the one injury that scares me as much as the ACL tears. It can happen to anyone, any time.

I wonder how hard those guys were training during the lockout???

I feel for Detroit. To break through this season, they needed that rookie to play like a ROTY candidate.

I wonder how hard those guys were

Here's one style...

This is no place for the timid.

Instead of easing his players into football shape after the four-month lockout -- as many other coaches are doing -- Harbaugh has his team getting after it. Saturday was the fifth time in six practices his players were in full pads, and they went full speed in goal-line, short-yardage and two-minute situations. Normally teams will hit and release in these drills because coaches are fearful of injuries. The 49ers, however, were allowed to tackle to the ground.

"He's definitely going with the approach that there's only one way to get in football shape, and that's to do it," says defensive end Justin Smith. "I really can't say that this camp has been easier than in the past. We've been out on the field for three hours a day, banging. It's been a physical camp."

Harbaugh played 14 years in the NFL as a quarterback, so you'd think he has as good a feel as anyone on just how hard and how far he can push the players. Still, Saturday's workout had the feel and the sound of an old-school college practice, not an NFL training camp. Maybe change is good for a franchise that has not been to the playoffs since 2002.

What's the track record anecdotally for players coming back from Achilles tears??

Other than totally shredding your knee(simultaneous MCL, PCL and ACL tears), I can't think of a worse injury for a RB.

Leshoure looked like a true feature back to me, a guy who could approach 300 carries a year for his career.

Okung is a very weird injury. Non contact and he limped off the field. He apparently heard something pop which sent the entire fanbase on suicide watch. X-rays were negative which restored some sanity. While talking to the media they said that the injury was around the same area high ankle sprain. If its a sprain its a probably 6-8 week timetable. He'll be back by week 3 then. MRI should be done today.

The worst thing about the team is that they are terrible when it comes to relaying accurate injury information. Every week, they'll say we are hopeful he plays this week while saying nothing about the actual injury its severity etc... Then on Gameday, they'll be a late scratch. I have pretty much given up on the team giving accurate injury information and timetables for recovery.

The only sports related injury I've ever had is a patella tendon rupture, and IMO it takes 16 months to 2 years to come back really strong from that injury.
Yeah you can walk and run after 6 to 8 months following the surgery, but I can't imagine being an NFL RB taking hits, cutting, driving and sprinting in that short amount of time.

Ryan WIlliams injury isn't as bad as McGahee's, but it's close.
Feel real bad for the guy. Hope he proves to be the exception like Terry Allen was and puts together a solid pro career.

Maybe because Ryan Williams is an elite athlete the mental recovery time will be less for him, but I know that for me it took a LONG time before I regained enough confidence to where I didn't think about my previous injury when I was running or jumping.

Theres no doubt he can make it back and become a player in the NFl again. Caddilac Williams did it, yes, but he was never the same type of player he was before the injury. He became a smart RB who can split time with a feature back and excellent 3rd down back for Tampa.

I hate to say it, but Williams has about a 16 month full recovery process. It's hard to regain that burst for RBs after that type of injury.

Sad to see this for a guy who the Cardinals had great expectations for.

Right. It's very sad.
What made a guy like Williams such an NFL prospect were his legs!
Once a guy rips the patella tendon, that guy does not have those same special "wheels" that made him who he was in the first place.
He'll never be the same. And there are tons of guys who have almost-the-same potential.... and Williams has lost what made him "special". Unbelievable.

Reminds me of the career of Willis McGahee. He would have been a great one.

Corey Webster, Antrel Rolle, Kenny Phillips, Aaron Ross is still a good starting group but we have like no depth, Rolle's already our NB since we have better depth at safety than corner, so if we get another injury before Prince can come back we're so screwed.

Eric Wood tore his ACL. I can't even express my sadness. Last guy I wanted to see suffer a season ending injury.

Matt Cassel likely out for the season with a hand injury that will require surgery.

jesus come on Cassel. At this point the Broncos are probably the favorites in the division, all I want is a good excuse for Norv to be gone......

We haven't been competitive at all so losing Cassel doesn't matter. GO NORV!

Holy **** yesterday....

Vick broken ribs.
Schaub's season ends.
Cassell's season ends.
Matty Stafford broke a bone in his hand apparently.
Rashean Mathis season ends.

Who else?

No-Shon Moreno, torn ACL, season over.

Im guessing Justin Harrell is injured somewhere.

Schaub's season isn't over. They're saying "several weeks" including one which is the team's bye.

Plus, if it's the listfranc injury, I believe that's what Eli played through a few seasons ago, so it's doable.

Alright, I stand corrected, now they are saying it's the year.

I guess we'll see what Leinart can do.

As I stated earlier, Eric Wood tore his ACL. He's been one of the better centers in the league this year. Second time he's gone to IR in his young career. He also had a bad leg break two years ago, in the other leg.

Levitre, who pushes Wood as our best lineman, will now shift from left guard to left tackle to center. Awesome.

Who lost key guys today?
I know Urlacher had an ugly-ass knee injury, covering in the end zone on a pass.

I'm sick of the ACL's getting torn.
How did it happen for Rashard? Was it like Peterson with another puzzy DB diving into his knee, or was it innocent like what happened to Jamaal Charles?

He planted his knee and it buckled/gave way. From what I saw there wasn't a lot of contact.

When I hurt my knee playing frisbee, there was no contact. The sports medicine doctor I saw told me that 70% of sports related knee injuries happen with no contact.

Knees aren't exactly built for the constant cutting and jerking and twisting that comes along with playing a sport.

I know an IT guy who tore his ACL once...... playing badminton.
Can't imagine there was a lot of contact in that game.

All it takes is an awkward shift of your weight...that's what happened to me.

Luckily for these guys, it's not a career ender anymore. 30 years ago, what happened to Peterson would have killed his career completely.
