Shefter: Browns reached agreement with OT Joe Thomas on a 7-year, $84 million extension with roughly $44 million guaranteed.

Well deserved!

Now get Colt McCoy some legitimate receivers and Cleveland may be on to something

The Browns are coming along slowly but surely. I like their offense a lot.

7/$84 for Thomas and 8/$120 for Fitz. Is Fitz that much more of a difference maker?

I'm not saying Fitz was overpaid, but I would think that makes this seem like an even better deal. Maybe I'm way off, but that's just my knee-jerk reaction.

He should have held out for 8/121.

At least I know he is going to probably see the end of that contract.

He'd only be 34 when his contract ends.

I remember hearing it on the radio. When they said it was for 7 years without announcing the amount, I thought it was probably for something like $84 million. Sure as heck, I was right.

He's a "shutdown tackle."

Normally when I see this kind of deal I feel like the team overpaid. Not in this case though. Thomas is hands down the best LT in the league and fully deserves this. Also, I'm just happy seeing vets getting their big payday instead of some undeserving rookie.

You shut your filthy mouth!!

Thank you Joe Thomas for being freaking amazing and not bolting to a bigger market or better team. I love JT73!

Colt McCoy will be hoisting the Lombardi Trophy some time in the next 6 years and Joe Thomas will be the one keeping his pants clean.

So it was a pretty good extension.

Quite a few players getting paid this offseason. I'm happy for Thomas, he seems like a genuinely humble guy, and his play absolutely warranted a new deal.

As a Browns fan, I'm absolutely thrilled with the length and price of this extension. It was important that Thomas got locked up before got a chance to test the market. Who knows what kind of bidding war would've ensued in that situation? Also imagine the front offices of Denver and Miami are pleased with this benchmark deal. It's very reasonable for such a premium position.

Good QBs don't need that much protection. 84 million to eliminate one pass rusher?

I'm done, hahahha, lucky Cleveland.

God, I hope you're right.

I'm not a Browns fan at all, but I call it as I see it. McCoy is the perfect fit for that offense and he's shown nothing but flashes of serious potential in both his rookie season and this year's preseason.

They've already added a stud shutdown CB in Joe Haden to that defense, and they continually add pieces with every draft to fortify their entire defense. I loved the Phil Taylor pick this year and think that he could be the lynchpin of that defensive line for the next decade.

They maneuvered the 2011 draft skillfully and acquired a second first round pick in the 2012 draft and even more 2nd and 3rd round picks, which will enable them to just kill the draft next year and add to their already talented nucleus.

Maintain the offensive line, get Colt a true #1 WR, keep improving that defense with more pass rushers and linebackers, and this team will easily take over the AFC North when the Steelers and Ravens all get old in the next 2-3 years. The logical progression from owning the AFC North is, well, a Super Bowl. It's inevitable.

I did like the Thomas to Fitzgerald comparison.

Love both guys, but money aside, I'd still take Thomas without thinking too hard about it.

I'd probably give Larry whatever he wants too, but Thomas just seems like a flat out steal at his price compared to people like Albert Haynesworth and stuff.

LTs are over-rated, but this guy is a beast. there are good reasons why everyone thinks he's top 3 in the NFL and probably #1.
