Is anyone going to have to evacuate?
ElectricEye

Some of the worst of it is projected to come right over my town. I'm not sure we're going to have to do anything that dramatic or if it will be all that strong by the time it gets here, but there's some work to be done for sure in terms of preparation. Should be interesting. We've never had a hurricane around here in my lifetime.

My family and friends on the Outer Banks of NC are probably going to get evacuated. They have already issued a mandatory evac for all visitors. I know Ocracoke already has been evacuated too. I kinda wanna go home this weekend and try to catch some surf since it was so ******* flat this summer, but I doubt they would let anyone on the beach.

We're not going to get evacuated but as of now it looks like this is going to hit us head on in Jersey. Hopefully the storm weakens out a lot by then because this isn't going to be pretty with all the flooding we've already had.

Ah, silly nanny state. They should definitely let you darwin yourself in the pursuit of some mediocre waves.

I know people who are in Wildwood right now and they were told to leave by Friday morning.

Yeah I was just looking at the tracker and it's supposed to go directly over the Jersey Shore. This is really going to suck. I'm supposed to go to Giants/Jets Saturday night but I hope they move the game to an earlier time so I don't have have to worry about getting rained on.

I don't have time after it passes though haha. Me and my buds went out last year when Hurricane Earl was close and I broke my board in half and another one of my buds broke his in half. Got on TV for it too haha. Another one got his leash ripped off and we had to go swim to get his board back, but luckily we got it. If I did go, I'd stay until Tuesday morning so hopefully we can get something going by then.

It's about time Texas and Florida get to sit back and watch a hurricane go somewhere else. Granted, Texas is in such a drought that we are starting to hope for a hurricane or tropical storm to come.

I saw the Giants/Jets game was moved up like 5 hours, because of Irene...here's hoping they'll throw Dallas/Minnesota on tv instead. Wishful thinking, though.
Looks like I need to find another ****** link to that game, which will suck and infuriate me. Assuming I have power...I dont even know when this thing is supposed to hit us.

The hurricane takes up like three states. If it was at 8 we would have got soaked. I still don't know how the traffic will be with people trying to get out of the city around that time. I'm definitely going just not sure how it's going to play out.

Ticket sales plus I think the O's would take any chance they can to screw the Yanks over. If they can throw you into disarray even a little they're going to take that opportunity and run with it.

I was there the other day, myself. Jets/Bengals. Had a good time. Beautiful stadium...we had nose bleeds, but there isnt a bad seat in that place. Plus, there was no one there and it was raining so we moved down to the lower level in the 2nd half anyway. But yeah, our actual seats were just fine.

I really liked it, actually. I didnt appreciate paying $50 for parking, and I wouldnt touch any food and or beer items there. But I liked the setup for the most part. Visibility is really the biggest factor for me, and even the cheap seats have a fairly good view of the action.

It's a football stadium, you always have a good view. The seat's are pushed further back than the old stadium. The escalators are a mess. I hate it.

In fairness to myself...I was incredibly drunk during the game. Which is very out of character for me. Typically, I dont drink at all. Just not a big fan of drinking and I hate beer. But, I was with the ole crew and what not, so it happens. So I dont remember a great deal of the actual game itself, aside from sitting in the rain and cheering at a Brian Leonard sighting. Honestly, I'm not a fan of the whole tailgating process...at least, the getting drunk part. The fan interaction and just hanging out is all in good fun, for sure. But, if I watch a football game, or any sporting event, I'd def. prefer to be sober for it. My friends just drink before damn near everythinhg these days, though. No "peer pressure", (lol) but it'd still be awkward being the one clear minded dude in the bunch. But yeah, I find the game much more enjoyable, when I can actually follow what I'm seeing, and not asking, "What quarter is it?", every 5 minutes.

If by par-tay you man drinking by myself then this is a rager right now.
When Hurricane Ike struck Texas a few years back, A&M got hit with a ridiculous storm front, so before it hit (it was pretty awesome when the skies where damn-near black and rolling in) me and a roommate bought a whole lot of booze and parked our cars in the garage (which was significant since the doors weren't hooked to an automatic opener) and then raged all night as trees around the block were coming down and etc.

There are tornadoes starting to touch down in Jersey so I should probably be more vigilant. Drinking through this just makes the most sense though.

remember, if a tornado comes, get into an interior closet or room, and pull a mattress over you. be careful not to spill the booze.
Giantsfan1080
08-27-2011, 10:12 PM
I'm in my sort of basement right now. The best thing is as soon as I typed that they issued a tornado warning in my area until 11:30. I can deal with a hurricane but I can't deal with a tornado inside a hurricane. That's just God cheating as far as I'm concerned.
Drinks will never be spilled tonight.

Vermont is a total mess. The southeast part of Vermont has massive flooding that washed away numerous bridges, historic covered bridges, and a few houses to top it all off. We got fairly lucky where in I live in southwest Vermont as we definitely have some rivers that rose above their banks but overall it pales in comparison to what the people down in Brattleboro and Wilmington areas are experiencing.

Yay! I was worried. :(
How bad did it get for you guys? My parents both in in south eastern CT and they said it was just a bit of wind and a little rain, nothing serious.
It was really windy and we got a ton of rain. There is not much flooding within 5-10 minutes of me but a ton of other places had a lot of flooding. It just took 3 hours to get to work when it usually takes 50-60 minutes.

wow, that's insane. we had a couple outages that last no longer than a minute.
on other news, Rt. 18 up at Rutgers is flooded causing mass chaos for move-in day and everyone else moving up there.
good thing I dont plan on going up til Wednesday

Yeah I saw some pictures yesterday and it's ridiculous there. As long as it's fine by Thursday I'll be happy.

The storm wasn't so bad at all here after less than optimistic projections for our area. We're just starting to get power and services up today though. Really nothing bad aside from soul crushing boredom. Can't say the same for some of the places near here though, lot's of property damage around these parts.

I went for a walk with two of my friends starting around 11:30 on Saturday, and was out until 3, when it actually started to get windy. As we were walking, we saw the substation blow up that powers Emmaus, and got to watch most of my town go dark at about midnight. That was pretty cool, and walking into the wind with the rain stinging a bit (moreso around 2:30-3:00 am where I am) was real fun. Besides the power out for about 16 hours here, all we had to worry about was some localized flooding. My uncle and his neighbors got a few feet of water in their basement fromt he river by his house, but the only other problems were with downed trees and branches. There are still a few people around here that are without power, but should get it back sometime today or tomorrow.

I lost so much time on that! I'm pretty pissed. Oh well. I think I'm close to beating it. Could probably do it this sitting, but I'm going to wait for the night when things get quiet in order to take it in better haha.

I don't pay attention that closely but probably not.
He has real problems saying "quarter" though. And every time we make fun of him for it he tells us to shut the **** up and calls us little pricks.
obama is visiting paterson, nj tomorrow to survey the damage

I worked near Paterson last year when they had that flood, and that was some incredible stuff to see. One of the highways goes through what normally is woods, but the whole forest area was under at least a foot or two of water, and they say its worse this time from what I hear, I can't imagine it being worse. It's just insane for me to try to figure out just how much water has to be there still.
