View Full Version : The Ultimate WrestleMania Card

comahan

Rules are simple: Anyone who was active in any wrestling organization from 1985-onward (the era of WrestleMania) is available to be drafted, and we will make an 8 match card to create our own version of the show.

When you draft someone, you have to state if you are drafting them as a heel or a babyface, along with what era youre taking them from. For instance, if I chose Steve Austin, I could choose

1) Steve Austin [1996] (Heel)
2) Steve Austin [1997-1999] (Face)
3) Steve Austin [2001] (Heel)
etc

It's pretty simple as long as you know your wrestling.

As with the other draft, you will be able to choose Tag Teams as one selection, though if you choose them as a team, they must appear on your card as a team. Managers come with the talent's taken. If you want a manager, they must have been paired with your pick during the era you chose, and you must state in your pick that you want that manager to be with the wrestler.

Finally, an added wrinkle to this draft is that we're going to be drafting a city and venue for our event to take place in. For instance, I could select Dallas - Cowboys Stadium as my pick, and my card would take place from Cowboys Stadium in Dallas.

When you are done drafting your card, say so in the thread. The reason for this is because not everyone will have the same number of talent on their card. When you finish with your draft, you will be skipped from that point onward until the last person finishes his draft. All I ask is that you dont go crazy with your picks. There's no need for 8 matches with 3+ wrestlers.

I think that covers it. Only gonna do 6 people so as to try and not have dead spots in the draft. Brodeur and BF51 have already made their intent to join this draft known, while Diab gets an invite for hosting the last draft.

Anyone who shows their interest to take one of the last two spots, please, PLEASE, be around. I hate going full days with only 2-3 picks being made.

BrodeurIs the order. Apologies for folks who applied, but yea, I like this being 4 people.

bearsfan_51
08-25-2011, 09:33 PM
Does that mean I go first?

bearsfan_51
08-25-2011, 09:35 PM
Also, since we are drafting from different eras, if someone takes, say, 2005 Shawn Michaels, does that mean nobody else can take any Shawn Michaels, or just singles Shawn Michaels, leaving The Rockers still available?

comahan
08-25-2011, 09:44 PM
Yea, if you take HBK, no one else can take any version of Shawn.

bearsfan_51
08-25-2011, 09:58 PM
It's gotta be Stone Cold Steve Austin. Hogan was a mega-star, but simply never as entertaining for anyone over the age of 10. There were more technically sound guys, or arguably even better mic guys, but if you're building an all-time show, I think Stone Cold has to be on the marquee.

For my Stone Cold I'm choosing the years 1997-98. In 97, Bret Hart beat Stone Cold by forcing him to pass out in Wrestlemania in one of the best feuds of all time, and probably the high point in my interest in Stone Cold. 98 saw Austin win the title at Wrestlemania XIV, and begin his feud with McMahon that got old after a while, but in 98 was the best thing going.

3DV0RHVteLs

I think you're completely pathetic.

Brodeur
08-25-2011, 10:01 PM
But, he was a heel in 97 and a face in 98.

comahan

He was a face for a lot of 97

bearsfan_51
08-25-2011, 10:07 PM
Even heel Austin was really a face. By Wrestlemania 13 (which was March), they had booked the match to make Austin look like a badass with integrity (wouldn't quit).

If im putting together a big card, im taking the best big-match performer of all time.

comahan

Youll need to narrow the era diab, since he had a few big heel runs during those years you picked. If you want babyafce Rocky, 1999-2001 would probably be good

But my #1 guy remains.

http://www.floydscabana.com/images/pwt100_2/1_flair4.jpg

WHOOOOOO!!!!!

There were a few Flair possibilities. Personally, I'm a big fan of his work in the WWF in the early 90's, but I think you have to go with classic 1980's heel Ric Flair from 1981-1989. His rivalries with Harley Race and Dusty Rhodes are still stuff of legend. Also, if Ric Flair is going to be a believable threat to Stone Cold in the main event, he's going to need to be in his 30's, not his 40's, which he was in the WWF.

wtf1FrYNOJo

To be the man, Steve Austin. you've. gotta. beat. the. man. And I'm the man!! Whooo!!!!!

comahan
08-26-2011, 12:47 PM
Yea, Flair was REALLY high on my board, and I was shocked he made it that far. But the idea of a Shawn/Savage match was something I couldnt pass up. Great pick with 80's Naitch.

bearsfan_51
08-26-2011, 12:52 PM
For my next pick, c'mon, it's Wrestlemania baby! You've gotta have the red and the yellow, brother!

http://www.floydscabana.com/images/pwt100_2/29_hulk.jpg

Here, I will obviously take WWF Hogan from 1983-1993.

I'm not sure who I'm going to pair with Hogan (I thought Flair would be gone and I was going to have Stone Cold vs. Savage), but I'm sure I'll find a dastardly villain to contrast with the All-American hero.

VP54lL_h8lQ

Whatcha gonna do, Brodeur, Comahan, and Diabsoule, when the 24 inch pythons run wild on you!?!

comahan
08-26-2011, 12:53 PM
You dont have to take them in their full runs if you dont want to. For instance, you could just take 87-89 Hogan if you really wanted to. Or 86 Flair, whatever.

bearsfan_51
08-26-2011, 12:59 PM
I know, I was going to cut Hogan off at 91 (after Wrestlemania VI), actually I probably should have. The only good feud he had after that was with The Undertaker.

CM Punk (right friggin' now)

http://www.accelerator3359.com/Wrestling/pictures/punk2.jpg

How did you smarks not take him before me? For shame.

He wasn't #1 on my list, but I love the idea of loud-mouth anti-authority CM Punk vs. 80's good guy Hulk Hogan. Hogan was everything Cena is now except way more popular and way more goody-goody. Can you imagine CM Punk's reaction to Hogan talking about everyone getting to go to heaven if they say their prayers? Or the fact that he talked to kids about staying on the right path while he was taking steroids? So many possibilities, and can be written in a way that both guys get mega cheers and mega heat.

Punk might be too small to match up evenly with the 24-inch pythons, so I might need to draft a tough-guy manager for Punk later.

The Great Muta [2001] (Face)

I picked 2001 not only because he was AMAZING that year work-wise, but thats also the year that he innovated the Shining Wizard, which everyone and their parents uses now.

And to face Jake "The Snake" Roberts:

"The American Dragon" Bryan Danielson

http://www.wrestlingfoundation.net/roster/rosterroh/imageswrestler_roh/bryan_danielson.JPG

He is a nerd, but this is a mid-card match, and that's when technical ability matters most. Plus, I like the juxtaposition between the dastardly snake and the wholesome Danielson. He won't know what hit him.

Vader had great matches with pretty much everyone in the early 90s, and Goldberg can easily have a good match with the right opponent. I really don't see how it would be a trainwreck, honestly. Cena/Lesnar have had one match, and it was years before Cena truly broke out. Plus Cena's gimmick is half based on Lesnar and his shot to stardom began because of him, it works storyline wise. As for the lack of star power, it's not that big of a deal when I have Cena and Goldberg in the undercard.

Uhg, Ironman matches blow. Go ahead and throw the first 59 minutes out the window, cause not only can the match not end (thus ruining nearfalls), but you know its going to come down to the last minute. 60 minute matches are fine, but dont tell me beforehand that its going to be a 60 minute match.
