BuffaloNews.com:
The Buffalo Bills are getting closer to trading linebacker Takeo Spikes, The Buffalo News has learned.
Trade negotiations gained steam Friday and Saturday, and a deal might be consummated within the next day, a league source told The News.
Numerous teams reportedly were interested in acquiring the 30-year-old former Pro Bowler, but which one ultimately would win his services still was not known Saturday night. Spikes is entering what likely would be the final year of his contract with the Bills, and a trade may involve Spikes agreeing to a new contract with his new team. The Bills have an option to pick up the last year of Spikes’ contract, in 2008.

He was good with the Bills too, except that he was always injured.

He was my favorite player on our team since he arrived.....it hurts me to see him leave after two injury troubled years, i think he was a great linebacker and wow is he ever jacked up!! I'll miss him but it is a business, and he'll be one of my favorties no matter where he goes...execept new england or oakland....then i hate him

Loved him in his prime, prototypical LB. It's a shame injuries got to him, I used to dream of having him across from Bulluck.

I'd love him in Detroit. Could he play MLB?

I think he'll be pretty good where he goes. I think he can get over the injuries this year and be effective. We're not the best place for him anymore and we need to free up some money (thanks, Langston). This will further mess up our LB core (Ellison - Crowell - ??), but I guess we all knew he was on his way out anyway. I'll miss him. He was a great player and it would've been nice to have him one more year. But I guess they feel it's necessary and we're just not the place for him anymore.

Id take him in the D, but as an OLB, he'd play alongside Sims and hopefully PWillis

Seriously, if we get Spikes I would be so happy our defense would be practically complete.

What would the compensation be, a 3rd or 2nd I guess.

No way... 5th at most I'd think.

I would guess that they would give us a 4th for him. Older, injured and has a moderately large contract.

Remember the Giants were just pursuing a LB in Al Wilson. They want a veteran presence to play next to Pierce.

What about Boss Bailey?

Boss Bailey is not good. He's fast and that's about it. So it makes sense they are trying to get rid of him.

He WAS a great player, and its sad what happened to him. I hope he returns to form again, though it won't happen. Last year he couldn't cover, got run-over, and was out of position a lot. I'd just like to see him become a decent player.

They're trying to get rid of Boss Bailey? This is news to me..
