View Full Version : IS Carson Palmer....Jim Plunkett???

Both Pac 10 QBs, Heisman trophy winners and 1/1 draft picks.

Carson had a solid career with the Bengals while Plunkett was essentially a bust with New England.

Both QBs acquired by the Raiders at age 32 when most thought they were washed up.

Plunkett went on to win two SBs for the Silver and Black.
Raiders have ridiculous skill position talent, all they lack is a genuine playmaker at the QB position.

If Palmer still has game left, can he get the Raiders into the playoffs and beyond??

Matt Schaub as a HOF candidate and Palmer as the next Jim Plunkett, you're on a roll this week.

I think we have enough Palmer threads open right now, but this is an interesting comparison to make.

So if Carson Palmer is Jim Plunkett then does that make Andy Dalton Kenny Anderson?

Ugh. Even if he wins multiple Super Bowls as a Raider there would be no comparison.

Apparently most posters can't reference Jim Plunkett(too much ancient history) to make a positive/negative comparison.

Right.
Huh??

Because he was already an elite QB for a period of time. The entire reason Jim Plunkett is a cool story was that he was a bust.

So I'll rephrase that - the comparison would be limited to the multiple super bowl wins as a Raiders QB. But in that sense, he would also be the next Ken Stabler.

Do you think Palmer can have a Jim Plunkett like resurgence with the Raiders??

Just curious to hear opinions??

Other than Palmer was regarded at some point as one of the better QBs in the NFL while playing with the Bengals, and Plunkett never had much of a career before the Raiders acquired him, would it surprise people if Palmer had greater professional success with the Raiders than he had with the Bengals??

All Carson has to do is win 1 playoff game in Oakland and he will have success in Oakland then he did in Cincy.

He probably just went karate style on some D lineman and is ready to shake off another one. With his facial expression I would say he is using the beaver technique.

I'd be surprised if Palmer ever got back to his 2005 form. That being said, I think he can make a comeback in Oakland and be a decent starter. But I'm not sure if he would be the center piece of that offense. I hope Hue Jackson isn't going to put a lot on his shoulders and expect him to work miracles week in and week out. McFadden, and the Raiders run game should be the primary focus for that offense.

By the way when is the next time the Raiders play the Bengals?

Next Year. Unless the Bengals and Raiders both make the playoffs.

I hope he does well and who knows what effect a change of scenery will have. Although he has looked different since the knee injury maybe the time off will finally have given him enough time to fully heal (or close to it).

BB, is that supposed to be a clever way to get around the mods??lol

Hmm, let me see. Should I make a valid point and a quick counter-argument?? Or should I just be my normal douchebag self??

Douchebag, because my Mom tells me I'm hilarious.

LOL. He used 'legion' in a very odd way. Legion is not usually used at the end of a sentence to describe a group of people.

This site has a legion of social defectives. That would have been proper. It is sig quote worthy IMO.

And he should have taken Penn's advice.

Or just having been around to remember him. I dont see quite the same level of talent for Palmer to work with as Plunkett had when he joined the Raiders. Guys like Shell and Upshaw, Ted Hendircks, Lester Hayes, Cliff Branch. Maybe i'm just partial to some of the older teams. (that i made a lot of money off)
