Was it just me, or was that like the most satisfying bye week we've ever had? A whole two weeks of basking in the glow of our surprising record, the defeats of Detroit and Philly and the destruction of Tampa. Oh, and our coach apparently has an iron handshake. Oh, and everyone else in the NFC West lost on Sunday. Life is frickin beautiful right now.

So, it's been a little difficult to get back into the swing of things. And I admit I am a little more comfortable considering how great of a start the 9ers have gotten off to. But alas, let's get back to whooping some ass.

http://s3.amazonaws.com/kym-assets/photos/images/original/000/001/384/Atrapitis.gif

Unfortunately, this is a classic trap game. Coming off a long layoff, against an inferior team, it's quite possible we come out a little overconfident and look past the Browns. In fact, I'd say it's a real possibility. I just hope we can overcome it.

They got this guy:

http://www.fordjordan.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/08/Payton-Hillis-Jumping-over-Defensive-Player.jpg

Probably won't play.

They got this guy:

Probably won't play.

Well, at least they got this guy:

http://cdn.bleacherreport.net/images_root/slides/photos/000/446/314/103532463_display_image.jpg

Uhhhh, yeah, he's probably not playing either.

Damn, we should stomp these guys.

OK, well, I hope we don't see this guy:

http://www.allposters.com/IMAGES/PHO/AAGS001.jpg

I'd rather see this guy:

http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Braylon+Edwards+Seattle+Seahawks+v+San+Francisco+n oK_nCyHSGtl.jpg

And moar of this beast:

http://www3.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/San+Francisco+49ers+v+St+Louis+Rams+7YGrngKfQGFl.j pg

And definitely this guy:

Let's do this!

Standings: West coast dream team baby!

NFC West
1. San Francisco 49ers (5-1)
2. Seattle Seahawks (2-4)
3. Arizona Cardinals (1-5)
4. St. Louis Rams (0-6)

AFC North
1. Pittsburgh Steelers (5-2)
2. Cincinnati Bengals (4-2)
2. Baltimore Ravens (4-2)
4. Cleveland Browns (3-3)

Special Note: Cleveland coach Pat Shurmur intends to wear this for the postgame handshake:

Nice write once again Borat.keep'em coming along..I don't think we will have to worry about the Browns half of the starters are out and defense will be well rested. We should be able to walk away with a nice win.Just wish I could watch it on my big screen instead of my laptop.Sadly WA coverage sucks.I just we can see more passing in the first half so we don't have to play behind again.Gotta have to wait and see.But I'm excited to see us playing again...Longest bye week ever .

We should crush the Browns but with all their injuries, im just hoping that we dont have a letdown.

Ness
10-28-2011, 10:36 PM
The Browns should get killed. I don't think Hillis is questionable. Whether it's him or Hadesty they're not running on us. They're both the type of runners that the 49ers defense just flat out stops. The north and south type. And Colt shouldn't pass the ball very well at all. I don't see how the 49ers can't win this game, unless it's a sloppy turnover fest.

I would enjoy a nice 200 yard game for Gore with a few long breakaways.

Maybe another 300 yard game by Alex Smith or that asking too much .

I doubt Smith passes for close to that amount. I'm guessing we run the ball against a Browns defense that hasn't been that great on the ground. Apparently the Browns aren't that bad against the pass (although they haven't played any hard teams really). If the ground game gets going early, there won't be too much of a need to pass the rock. I'm hoping that the coaching staff opens it up a little more and Smith has gotten a little more comfortable with the offense these last two weeks. I'll be looking to see where he passes the ball. If he keeps passing in towards the sidelines and in the flat, or starts to pass more over the middle and takes some shots down the field.

Any thread with Admiral Ackbar in it gets a thumbs up from me, so well done Borat.

I am really hoping Braylon is back from this game. Joe Haden may not have an island named after him but he sure can take an opposing receiver out of a game. The Browns are top five in blitzing, so I believe Harbaugh will leave Vernon in to block for a majority of the game. Without Edwards we are pretty much down to Ginn and Walker as the main passing options. Though (in terms of completion %) Alex is 3rd in the league against blitz and needs to take advantage of Cleveland aggressive front.

Maybe another 300 yard game by Alex Smith or that asking too much .

Doubtful to happen. Every time we have gotten at early lead this year we have gone into coast-mode, Smith attempted less than 25 passes in all three games in which we had a double-digit lead, and we will likely do so if we get an early lead again. If they can keep it close while stopping the running then maybe but I doubt Smith attempts more than around 25 passes.

PatrickWillis
10-29-2011, 07:26 PM
We won't get 300 yards passing because our receivers suck. Crabtree can't run routes at all. Vernon is a horrible TE. Delanie very bad. Ted Ginn=teh suxorz. If only Alex had Calvin Johnson and Andre Johnson outside....MAYBE, then he could throw for 300. But no, our horrible front office keeps giving him these practice-squad caliber receivers.

Alex FTW!

Nah he sucks. Only looks good cause Alexander the Great throws it to him. Overall, he holds Alex back. Has speed but can't adjust his routez.

The real problem is Crabtree the diva. What a HORRIBLE receiver!

The 49ers have a chance to get the #2 seed in the NFL. They have a great chance to get to the Super Bowl. But we need to have more than a one dimensional offense. Defenses don't fear the 49ers passing game.

Damn I wish we would throw for 400 yards ...screw the 6-1 record and the efficiency and qb rating, we need more yards.

Seriously though, Alex played well aside from two passes (slant behind Braylon, miss to Crabtree on long pass), Braylon looks unstoppable on slants, Crabtree...ehh, didn't see too much of Delanie or VD. Hate conservative in the second half, knew it was gonna happen though.

Aldon Smith is still a beast, Justin Smith's penalty was BS, I really like Culliver..our safeties are looking pretty good, resign Goldson?

On cue when the team needs him.

No, he should have completed passes earlier in the game like that one to a WIDE OPEN Crabtree. That way, the defense wouldn't be so damn gassed and screw up.

Gassed? The 49ers ran twice as many offensive plays in the first half compared to the Browns. 49ers also got the ball to start the 2nd half. So pretty rested D heading into the 2nd half.

Moving away from the tired QB talk. Congrats to Frank Gore passing Roger Craig for 2nd on the 49ers all-time leading rusher list. Also remarkable that this is first time Gore has had 4 games in a row of 100+ yards rushing in his career. Amazing stretch he has put together when a lot of people thought he was on the downside of his career.

Just reading an article that says Ice can rifle it 70 yards, can't wait for the fullback option pass from a 330 pound nose tackle. Nice to see rookies continuing to make an impact and some wrinkles on offence. Sometimes you have to accept that a defence adjusts and shake things up a bit so momentum doesn't go away.

Good thing we have top notch defence and special teams to help while the offence finds itself. Nice to see Edwards on those slants.

Yes, but we'll take the W, move on and look to keep improving. Harbaugh opened up the playbook a little more this week, with more downfield shots to Crabs, passes to ICE and Staley, etc. That is encouraging.

The Niners may have the luxury of winning the NFC West pretty easily so they can look to improve in different in-game situations through the second half of the season. I'm not going to worry about January yet when they still have all of November and December to improve.

The Skins looked pathetic today. Hope the Niners can get a fast start on the road against them next week so they crowd will turn on the home team

6-1 for the first time in over a decade. YES!

Garrard was actually pretty good last year, definitely in the top half of the league in terms of QBs. Smith has been slightly better this year, probably top 12, but he has also been more clutch when the team needs him to be.

Did you watch Garrard play? He was not very good give me a break. When people think of top quarterbacks, or rather when they though of the top quarterbacks last year Garrard wasn't one of them. Game managing your way to a quarterback rating over 90 doesn't mean you're a good quarterback. It's not surprising he's still a free agent.

Our OL has really improved. By far our worst unit on the team in the first 3 weeks, the last 4 they've been playing like a top 10 unit. Opening up holes in the running game, and giving Smith time on a consistent basis. That's really been a key reason why we've looked so much better these last few weeks. Its moving down my list of our team's biggest needs, although we still could use a long-term option at RG (Kilgore?)

This is a young team in the first year of bringing personnel into a new system, worrying about an undefeated season that could have been is a bit much. To just sniff the playoffs under the circumstances Harbaugh/Baalke were dealt is pretty good in most divisions(ours doesn't make it a great feat)

We had fans writing us off after a preseason loss and then again after a loss to the Cowboys. This is just year one where we probably don't have our quarterback or receivers in place and we are possibly going to see a first round playoff bye and a home playoff game. That's a good start.

True, but he did throw for more than 200 and sometimes 300 yards every other time. Obviously Alex Smith will throw for more than 200 yards again, but really, you have to worry a little because if Gore and Hunter get hurt or if the defense doesn't make plays and the run game sucks one day, as a fan I want to have confidence in our quarterback to convert third downs, carry the team on his back and get the win...and be able to do it without a team just giving the contest away (like in Philadelphia).

Same, its been 8 long years. Whats worse is the NFL is the only only league i follow and the 49ers my only team, so sports have sucked for me. I just re-watched the second half (I missed parts) and Alex seriously misfired on only ONE freaking pass the whole half (long one to Crabtree), MAYBE two (3rd and 14). All this criticism is utterly ridiculous, and quite childish at this point; it reeks of prioritizing individual opinion over actual observation. He only had 12 passing attempts in the entire half lol, two of them were critical drops in the very first drive lol, to place the blame solely on him, or even the majority of the blame on him is amateurish. Done with the QB talk this week, the pseudo-drama is not even worth addressing.

I live in Jacksonville and watched every Jaguar game, actually, and he was pretty good last year, just very inconsistent. Even with one of the worst defenses in the NFL he managed an 8-6 record. The reason he was cut is because Jack Del Rio is basically already fired and Garrard was his guy so the Jaguars FO did not want to pay Garrard the almost $10 million he was owed this year. The reason he is a free agent is because he wants to come in and be the undisputed starter.

Happy we won and are now 6-1 heading to Washington where we should finish 7-1. Overall, im happy. The first half was dominant but wasnt happy about the play calling in the second half. HATED that reverse play. I have never ever liked those plays and seeing that reminded me of the reverse in 1997 when Rice got injured and was out until December, came back and got hurt again. UGH. Stay away from reverses Jim.

Alex was off here and there in the second half but the play calling wasnt as good in the second half as it was in the first half and Hunter barely if at all played. I love that guy. He reminds me of a better version of Barlow when Barlow backed up Hearst.

And so far, im loving the Aldon Smith pick. He's been way better than anyone expected and would rather see him start opposite Brooks instead of Haralson. Oh well, im just happy that after six and a half seasons, we appear to finally have a legit pass rusher.
