This should be a fun thread (as long as grumpy, jealous, bitter MetSox stays out)......

I saw this in the Saints forum here, and have seen ESPN to similar things, like this one:
http://www.thesportsbank.net/core/wp-content/uploads/2009/03/rushmore.jpg

<This one sucks. You cannot have one without Wayne Gretzky. You need to narrow it down to 1 guy from each of the 4 sports, and that comes from a guy who is involved with the tennis tours and would love to see Federer get some love there, and Tiger Woods & Jack Nicklaus deserve some cred too... but I go with the 4 major sports.

If I made an all-NFL and all-time NFL one, I go this:
Joe Montana
Walter Payton
Lawrence Taylor
Reggie White

I know nobody is from the black&white TV era, but the NFL has just gotten so much bigger, and the athletes far superior now vs the 50's and 60's. I don't want to go back to the pre-Super Bowl days.

I also think it should be split 2-2 offense & defense.

I easily could be talked into switching Jerry Rice in for Montana as he led 49ers teams to Super Bowls with both Montana and Young. But I feel you need a QB on the rock. Still, Rice is very deserving.... I just don't want Rice and Montana.... can't have both the offensive guys 49ers.

I think Walter had the edge over Emmitt and Jim Brown and Barry Sanders. I'm positive he deserves it over Brown. And Emmitt and Barry were both great, but cases could always be made that the other was better..... so I can't put either in rock.

LT is a given. He changed that position and was totally dominant.
Reggie made 2 defenses great.

All the guys got a ring....

WHO IS YOUR MOUNT RUSHMORE?

Reggie White would belong nowhere near an NFL Mt. Rushmore, that was a serious homer pick on your behalf.

I like this one (except LT, I know I'm in the minority here, but I just don't believe LT should represent the NFL at all). I don't know what to replace him with, obviously there are like a billion names if you want to go for non-player route (Madden, Al Davis, Paul Brown, Lombardi etc. etc.), but if it's strictly players then I'm not sure.

Haha no Lyle Alzado would also belong nowhere near there. If a DE was absolutely going on there, then the choice would have to be Deacon Jones.

The guy who made the stat that LT is famous for... Deacon Jones

Gotta put Jim Brown up! Unless you're just doing your own favorite rushers, in which case mine would go like this:

Marshall Faulk
LaDanian Tomlinson
Barry Sanders
Thurman Thomas

I agree with this. I think the first three names you listed should be locks on any list with the 4th either being Johnny U, LT or George Halas.

Keep it to players......
Do a separate one for coaches if you want them.

Jerry Rice should be on it.
But somehow they never let him win a single season MVP award.
Injustice.

Joe Montana, Jerry Rice, Johnny Unitas, Tom Brady, Ray Lewis and Jim Brown all the names that come up for me. I'd probably lean towards Jim Brown or Joe Montana though to put on there.

I endorse Lawrence Taylor as #4, and the carving of his mighty stone head should be planned in a way that assures the regular accumulation of snowfall under his nostrils.

Didn't Jerry get the mvp in a shortened season, am I hallucinating that? it's possible.
