I'm rooting for Andy Roddick, but I think Federer will win again. Bad news for Rafy, he's not playing on clay

Oh yeah, this is Agassi's last Wimbledon, it'd be cool to see him win, but it's not happnin'.

It will probably give him more power and control, but will take away from his reach ... I guess we will have to wait and see how it works out for him.

roddic cant be fedder the olny way andy is going to win is if some body else has to beat roger i think federer has had like 5 losses this year and nadal had all of them. but nadal rules the clay he cant play at whimbledon thats rogers turf. I like federer but i am tiered of him winning i want my fellow new yorker james blake to win it.

No love for Novak Djokovic? Yeah, i'm from Serbia so homerism is kinda natural.

Novak won against Federer in three sets at Australian open, and also has won a Canadian open final clash against Federer in 2007. Novak wasted many chances in the first two sets of the US Open 2007.

Novak is getting better results than Roger, comparing to Roger play when he was a 20 years old.

By the way, i don't think that Novak could challenge Roger's number of GS when all has been said and done.

In this tournament Marat Safin is playing the best tennis he has played in years.

Unfortunately, I think it's too late for him. Despite 2 Grand Slams, his career has been a HUGE dissappointment.

I like Federer. He's who I root for when all the Americans inevitably bow out. Last year's final was spectacular, which is why I wouldn't mind Nadal getting to that point against Federer, but I really hope he doesn't win.
What happened to Marat Safin, anyway? I obviously don't follow tennis too closely, but I'm kind of pulling for him as well.

Safin always had great talent, but other then 2 Grand Slam tournaments, he has been an underachiever.

Often lazy, rarely motivated, he's one of those guys that thought success would come to him naturally, without much work.

The 2 times he has been focused, he beat Sampras (quiet easily actually) in the US Open final and Federer (EPIC 5-setter) in the Aussie semis.

MASSIVE waste of talent.

Gatz
07-05-2008, 12:27 AM
Why do so many people/americans/posters on this board hate Nadal? So he's not elegant like Federer, he's still very classy on and off the court and he is having a better year than Federer. Do people dislike his counterpunching style of play or something? Anyways, I am rooting for Nadal and I am picking Nadal. If he wins this he has a very good chance of taking over the #1 spot by year's end.

He will probably be the next dominant player after Federer is done, and he'll have slams for years to come, because, barring injury, he's a man among boys on clay, and will probably be the favorite in wimbledon for years after Federer starts slipping.

Gatz
07-05-2008, 12:30 AM
And yes, Safin is just sad. He had so much talent but his head wasn't on straight, tennis on this stage is 50% mental. He lost his athleticism and will never return to the top, but he can still cause upsets from time to time like he did to Djokovic (now there's a top player I hate)

There are other players on tour like him as well, just wasted talent because of a lack of mental game (Nalbandian, and although he is still young, Gasquet as well)

On a sidenote, they absolutely messed up wimbledon. Post 2001 the grass on wimby has been playing slower than hardcourts, and this year they slowed it down even more.
And NBC's grandslam coverage this year has been crap.

That. tennis match. was sex.

And I don't care whether you hate rafa or roger, if you didn't appreciate their efforts and play, and have a tremendous amount of respect for both of them, you shouldn't even be watching tennis. seriously. Go be a fanboy in some other sport. Illogical hate toward two classy guys, and two of the greatest tennis players.

These guys are tougher mentally than anybody, they are still on a different level than any other tennis player, I mean for Roger to survive that many times and for Rafa to recover from that choke in fourth set. Greatest tennis match I have ever seen.

As far as changing of the guard, I still want to see Rafa prove himself on hardcourts before that, he's still behind Roger in point standings, but yes, the future looks bright for Nadal.

Don't count Roger out in future slams though, right now he's still on a level that other tennis players (except Nadal) aren't on. I don't buy Djokovic being the third leg until he shows the same mental toughness these guys do. I still have Federer breaking or at least tying Sampras' slam record.

How long do you think it'll be before an American becomes relevant again in Mens Tennis? I miss Pete Sampras A long time. Since Sampras and Agassi went away no american player has come close to their level, (even though Roddick reached #1, he's not mentally tough enough and not good enough of an athlete) Right now there's no young players on the horizon that looks good enough to get into top rankings. And Blake is a choker if there ever was one. Plus atp is screwing up tennis and nbc is screwing up tennis coverage.

I'm a huge Federer fan, but i was kind of happy to see Nadal finally pull it off somewhere other than the French Open.

That match was truly amazing. I found it interesting that Macenroe said that it was the best one that he's ever seen. That is saying a lot!

I decided that I really dislike Federer durining the end of the match. Every time Rafa was up to breaking his serve, ACE, ACE, WINNER, ACE. Screw you Federer. I am a big Nadal fan, and was happy to see him finally trump RFed.

I did think it was cool how they were at the end, both very appreciative of the match.

Anyone think the #1 tennis player in the world could pull off a better woman?

Apparently Federer doesn't feel obligated to go after supermodels that are only with him for his title.
