St. Louis Rams (2-9)
at
San Francisco 49ers (9-2)

Rams week. I guess they're a rival. I tried to make this a real rivalry with hate and stuff and it just never materialized. The Niners have dominated it too much. Of course, Ken Norton Jr's "Same Ole Sorry Ass Rams" blast kind of put the nail in the coffin. The Rams are just consistently not good. Sucks for their fans.

But hey, they always have this guy though:

http://www1.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Steven+Jackson+Arizona+Cardinals+v+St+Louis+IrTDsK Gl8FCl.jpg
Normally, I'd be worried about him, but our run defense is unreal. There isn't a back in the league that I fear. And that is ******* awesome.

Remember this guy:
http://media.sacbee.com/static/weblogs/49ers/archives/blduck.gif

Apparently, he does this now:
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/photo_images/4790351/95944_Seahawks_Rams_Football.jpg
Ugh. I didn't care when they traded him. I don't really care that the Rams traded for him. He doesn't really bother me. I thought he should have been better than he ended up with us. Whatever.

I'm still not sold on this guy:
http://cdn0.sbnation.com/entry_photo_images/2381565/GYI0062897739.jpg
I'm not saying he's a bust ... but I'm not a fan.
It may not matter though. He's questionable.

So, we can wrap this baby up:
http://atssportsblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/NFC-West.jpeg
Mere formality at this point. Haven't even thought about it for over a month. Feels good to get back into the playoffs though.

I want to see this:
http://gifsoup.com/webroot/animatedgifs/449443_o.gif
A lot.

And how about a little more of this:
http://www2.pictures.zimbio.com/gi/Ron+Bartell+St+Louis+Rams+v+San+Francisco+bcqoBxFz 5vhl.jpg

But none of this:
http://images.townnews.com/havasunews.com/content/articles/2011/11/21/sports/doc4ec9ddaabb27c711724652.jpg
Just catch the ball Braylon. You're getting open. The ball is reasonably thrown. Just catch it. I want more from this guy. He's the key to opening up the passing game. Just, not this week. He's out.

And finally, it will be this:
http://prod.static.49ers.clubs.nfl.com/assets/images/imported/SF/photos/photo-galleries/game-photos/2008_game_photos/best-of-zagaris/snyder-pregame--nfl_medium_540_360.jpg

and not this:
http://imgs.sfgate.com/c/pictures/2009/11/08/sp-49ers_titans__0500820672.jpg

Yeah.

Standings: Hey look, ... the Rams have the inverse of our record. Neat.

1. San Francisco 49ers (9-2)
2. Seattle Seahawks (5-7)
3. Arizona Cardinals (4-7)
4. St. Louis Rams (2-9)

Honestly, Edwards has no business playing at less than a 100%. Now we finally decide to sit him for a couple of games. I remember Fangio earlier in the year said something to the effect of he will always take a less-talented guy playing at 100% than a more talented guy playing at 80-90%. I am in totally agreement with that line of thinking. Guys like Williams and Swain at 100% give you the same production that Edwards can at 80%. Give these guys some burn and rest Braylon so he's healthy in the playoffs, where he'll sorely be needed.

Yeah, we should blow out the Rams. And hell yeah, im hoping Snyder plays instead of Rachal. I hate Rachal with a passion and cant wait until the season ends and he's gone.

We should easily win our division this week, go to 10-2 and move another step towards the second seed, a bye and a home playoff game. I just hope that Harbaugh and company has put the Ravens game behind them because if they dont, I can definitely see us having a let down.

With that said, I dont think that will happen.

I think it should be case by case basis. Are you going to take Andre Johnson at 80% or a 100% Jacoby Jones?

Edwards should be rested for the playoffs though if he's not healthy. I'm not that high on him on a player and never was, but if the coaches think he can help than he should take it slow.

Im going to take Jones at 100 every time. A guy playing at 80, no matter how talented he is, can't give you the effort of a guy who is healthy. And 9 times out of 10, its effort that makes the play, not necessarily talent. And besides, we're not talking about one of the top 3 WRs in the league, we're talking about Braylon Edwards. I'd take Williams or Swain full healthy over him at 80% every day of the week and twice on Sundays. As he has proven, he is not the same player when he's not completely healthy. The effort just isnt there.

1. Amazing feeling knowing we're a lock for the playoffs - been so long.

2. As the wins pile up, I find myself much more concerned with the 100 yd rushing and rushing TD battle that offenses take to our defense every week. I love watching our front seven.

3. I agree with Ness on Braylon. He's ok for me, I don't think he's the answer to opening up this offense and being "explosive".

4. Vernon Davis is that answer. And that will happen when we don't depend on him so much to stay in for pass pro.

Let's go, lock up the West, stay ahead of NO. Happy GameDay gentlemen.

I'm very much looking forward to watching a beatdown of the Rams today, with the Niners solidifying their position at the top of the NFC West, celebrating a playoff berth on the field after the game. Let's go NINERS!!!

Like I said it's case by case. I'm taking a 80% Jerry Rice over a 100% J.J. Stokes.

Anyone else see that Josh Johnson got the start for Tampa Bay today? I believe Freeman was a late scratch so Johnson didn't prep to be the starter all week, but it'll be interesting to watch him in action. I wonder if Harbaugh will still go after hm in the offseason with Kap (a similar player as far as build, skillset) already on the team.

Rams QBs A.J. Feeley and Tom Brandstater are warming up. No sign of Sam Bradford. Highly unlikely Bradford plays on bum ankle vs. 49ers D.

Got a feeling the 49ers will get their pick 6 on at least once today.

I would like to see Alex take advantage of the red zone opportunities today and punch in a few scores early. I think this game will be similar to the game two weeks ago against the Cards and he will get plenty of chances early.

Another thing I would like to see is the 49ers defense register a multiple sack game. They have only had two game with multiple sacks since the bye week.

Apparently Josh Johnson took every 1st team rep all week.

Josh Johnson gets first-team practice reps

Josh Johnson handled the Bucs' first-team reps all this week, and coach Raheem Morris characterized Johnson's practice performance as "spectacular" on Friday.
"Josh Johnson had a spectacular week of practice," Morris said. "... When you have a week like this and he takes all the reps, you can see how prepared he really is and how much he really wants it and how much he’s been paying attention." Josh Freeman (shoulder, questionable) will be a game-time decision for Sunday's matchup with Carolina. During the preseason, the speedy Johnson rushed nine times for 93 yards but completed just 17-of-39 passes (43.6%) for 272 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Dec. 2 - 3:54 pm et

Nice. Hadn't heard anything about it here in AZ and small market teams like them don't get over-discussed in the media like the Pats, Giants, Jets, Cowboys, etc. He's shown good flashes today and some crazy arm strength at times, but the touch on his passes has been hit-and-miss. He got better as the game went on but the Bucs were overmatched with Cam Newton blowing up, and not being able to establish the run against the Panthers D.

Alex looking good on 3rd downs, which is a plus....until Crabs let a laser go through his hands that, if caught, was most likely a TD.

Congrats to 2011 NFC West Champions, YOUR San Francisco 49ers!!!!!

Feels good to know that we have more than 16 games to play this season. Slow start but we dominated and that's all that I wanted to see. Figured we would start off a little sluggish after the 10 days off. We came on in the second half though. The dropped passes are starting irk me though. Leaving points on the field in those instances. Crabs and VD both need to 'git ur done'. Sucks that Willis got injured. But maybe not. I'd love for him to sit for awhile and be a 100% for the playoffs. I have the utmost confidence in Larry Grant. While Willis and Bowman are more sideline to sideline guys, Grant is a thumper that brings a different element to the defense. We can slide Bowman over to MIKE and Grant can start at the TED and we shouldnt miss a beat upfront, though Willis is irreplaceable. That's why we can't rush him back from this hamstring injury. We have to make sure he is completely helthy for the playoffs, as this can nag him for the rest of the year if we dont handle it right. Get well Pat. And Kyle Williams.....I've been begging for weeks, get this guy some more touches. He HAS ability and a gear that the other WRs don't have(I dont really consider Ginn a WR, more a return specialist who moonlights as a WR). Work this kid into the offense Roman, we will need him when its all said and done. Congrats to Gore on the milestone. Now I would look to limit his carries and get him healthy and fresh for the post-season. Both Dixon and Hunter are capable of shouldering more of the load. Good win. Bring on the Cards.....

The receivers throwing themselves around as blockers is nice to see. When you get guys the size of Ginn and Williams trying to tattoo defenders you know you have buyin.

It seems like each game is being treated almost as a scrimmage where Roman implements a fairly big chunk of the new offense. The playcalling from week to week has changed pretty drastically a few times. It's an interesting approach to take and hard to believe the success that has come while doing this. Of course, having top shelf defense and special teams is probably the only way a team can do this and have success. It's going to be interesting to see the final product.

I was thinking the same thing. His stats were good once they opened up the play-calling in the second half but they left a lot of yards and points out on the field. Against NO or GB, that would have likely cost them the game.

People around here keep harping on that......that if we play like this against the Saints or the Packers, it will cost us the game. But I don't think we would approach the Packers or the Saints the same way we approach the Rams or the Cards. Of course the dropped passes are a problem as I alluded to in a earlier post but I get the sense that many here don't think our offense is good enough to get it done in the playoffs. I think our offense and Roman in general will have much more of a aggressive look come playoff time. Especially if we get that week off to incoperate some new wrinkles. I get the sense ppl think the Saints or the Packers are going to blow us out of the water. I don't. I think this team is too well-coached and too talented to let either team overwhelm us. This team will be ready to play come playoff time and I believe we will make it to the NFC Championship Game. We can play with anybody....

Ness
12-05-2011, 01:43 PM
Well as far as the Saints go, they are a much different team on the road. They average around 25 points per game whereas at the Superdome they've averaging about 40. If we have to play the Saints, we better play them at home, because I don't think we're playing them in the Superdome. I still think the Saints lose at least one more game at finish at 12-4. I'm also expecting us to lose at least one more game. At the most we'd lose two. If we tie with the Saints though record wise we'll still have the advantage and get the first round bye. Their NFC win-loss record is worse than ours and even if we lost to two NFC opponents the rest of the way we should still get the tiebreaker.

So glad we have finally made into the play offs.It has been a long time coming for us. If we could only add a few big time players to our offense such as a true #1 WR I would be happy . I will be bummed I won't really get to watch the plays off to my living location and no cable or descent wifi here at the grand canyon with out paying for . But game cast and this site will do for now.

Only negative in Sunday's game was the injury to Willis who's going to be out a few weeks. Personally, I would keep him out until the Seahawks game because winning the NFC games are far more important in regards to getting the second seed. If we beat the Steelers, great, if not, I wont even care as long as we win the three remaining NFC West games.

As for the playoff teams, quite honestly im not concernced with any of them because we would be playing one of them in SF and I think that we could win that game regardless of who we play.

Im with you Dan. More concern about winning out in the NFC. I would like the offense to have a good showing against Steelers to at least quiet some of the naysayers in the media about our offense versus playoff caliber teams. But I wouldn't necessarily be too bumed by a loss, though I hate losing to Steelers almost as much as I hate losing to the Cowboys. I think that Seattle game will be a tough one. Their offense is playing better and the defense is highly underated. And everyone knows they play like world-beaters at home. Wouldn't shock me if we loss that one as well. That would still give us the tie-breaker over the Saints and we would lock up the #2 seed. Good news is, we don't leave the Pacific time zone until we face the Rams the last game of the season, so its very possible we could win out. Should be a interesting next couple of weeks.

I think it's just as solid (if not more) than the 'Who dat' and 'Who dey' chants.

Willis being out sucks but they shouldn't rush him back. Save him for the playoffs if needed. Besides, Larry Grant played out of his a$$ on Sunday and was making plays all over the field (though it was against his former team).

Grant's a baller and I still dont understand why we cut him to begin with. If you remember, alot of the beat writers were drooling over his play in TC. I really wasn't surprise he did so well. He fits our scheme well. He was out of place as a OLB in Spags system. Like I said before, he's a thumper. He seeks the balls and loves to hit. He's really the only true 'TED-like 'backer we have. I wouldnt be concerned if he had to play for a extended period of time. There's not another team with a better 1-2-3 combo at ILB in the league. I would really hope we look into extending him as he should be rather cheap and he seems to be a team guy and really loves the guys he plays with from his tweets that I've read. Plus he's from the Bay area so I think that's a plus to keep him here as well. I hope they give Willis the next 2-3 games off actually. I want him fully heathly for the post-season.

That sucks you won't be able to watch the playoffs. There's a poster on Niner Talk(49erswebzone forum) who post vids of all the offensive and defensive plays from every game after their conclusion up on Youtube. Not the same as watching it live but just in case you still want to see the action afterwards, here's the link http://www.49erswebzone.com/forum/niners/158458-video-all-st-louis-offensive-defensive-drives/

I could see us even losing it. Kolb is starting instead of Skelton, which is a huge boost, and our 24th ranked offense doesn't really give me that much confidence. Our defense is what is going to be the decisive factor, but if it's a low scoring game and our offense can't get going yet again then Arizona could sneak out a win and I wouldn't be surprised.

Their defense seems to be playing better. Looks like they've finally adapted to Horton's scheme. But their offense is still horrid and one thing with Kolb is he will chuck the ball up and give the secondary the opportunity to make plays on the ball. We should still beat them. Might not be pretty but we should win.

If i had to predict the rest of the regular season...first we beat Arizona by about 7-10 points. Shouldn't be as close as the score suggests, think Washington with hopefully a little more offensive efficiency. Beat the Steelers next week on MNF. However, i think the game against Pitt will be an emotional drainer, not to mention we'll only have 4 days rest before we have to fly to Seattle and play in that stadium, against a motivated Pete Carroll. Lose a close one in Seattle. Mop up the Rams in Week 17 and end the year 13-3, #2 seed.

I convinced myself the Niners were going to lose most games this season before the start of said games.
