Let's say hypothetically you are starting a new franchise from scratch; whom would you most want to be your starting quarterback to build around?

I picked Cam Newton because: a) he's a superstar, b) he's the ****, c) i drafted him in fantasy football this year so I have an obligation to blindly support him for the rest of his career.

This is a ridiculously stupid question. If you choose anyone other than Aaron Rodgers you are wrong.

And so not that it matters, but Stafford should be on the poll over at least 5 of the options.

Aaron Rodgers as he is the youngest out of the proven QBs. And one of the best. Brees would be nice but hes in his 30s already.

Newton Luck and RG3 are options as well but they aren't proven. That's why id take Rodgers for age and proven success.

I'm still sticking with Jake Locker. From this list i'll go with Andrew Luck.

Cam Newton. It's close a call though. Aaron Rodgers isn't even 28 yet. I remember Steve Young had a Hall of Fame Career and he didn't become a starter full time until he was 30. At the same time, Cam Newton has come into the NFL and right away shown flashes of brilliance via the air and the ground. With the NFL lockout it's really unusual that he's doing this well. On the other hand he could flop his second season. Regardless, I'd stick with Newton as my first choice.

Andrew Luck is 100% guaranteed to be the next Peyton Manning except 100 times better. This isn't even a competition.

I think Matt Stafford would be #2 on my list behind Aaron Rodgers, and he isn't even on the poll. Craziness.

I'm okay with being wrong. I'll take Drew Brees with no talent around him over Aaron Rodgers.

The OP said it was a hypothetical franchise started from scratch. I'll trust Drew Brees to get me the fast and early wins so that my team is a desirable landing spot for free agents quickly.

No Matt Stafford? Come on.

If I'm starting a team from scratch it has to be Tebow. A QB who is also a RB, FB, TE, and H-back with a little WR spot duty as seen earlier this season.

BOOM offensives depth everywhere.

I'd choose Matt Flynn.

I'm just soooo curious to hear the rationale as to why Stafford wasn't put on the list. I'm just going to go grab some popcorn and wait for the response.

Sooooo, Stafford?

But I chose Rodgers.

I chose Rodgers as well because with his combination of skill set, age and body of work to date, he seems like the the obvious answer at this point in time. I would've chosen him over Stafford even if he was on the list.

My reason for asking the question is because there are some ridiculous (IMO) options on this poll. No Stafford, no Brady (don't buy the age argument if Drew is up), yet Tebow is up? Does anyone actually think that, given a choice, a team would take Tebow over Stafford? I would be surprised if Romo, Schaub or RGIII would even be selected over Staff by an NFL front office. The rest I can see having reasonable arguments made for.

Aaron Rodgers if I was choosing a guy for right now, might seriously consider Stafford though as he is younger though less developed.

What poll are you referring to exactly? You didn't think highly enough of Stafford to even include him in this one.

I hope people weren't serious when they posted this here but some have already called him a future HoF.

I couldn't agree more.

I also couldn't agree more that Flynn looks like a potential future HOF. I was a little disappointed when I couldn't include him in the poll, honestly, but know that he was #11.

Really? It's a guarantee?

Matthew Stafford is 24 years old, and just threw for 5000 yards and 41 TDs, and he's not an option here?
But Matt Schaub is?

this argument that stafford maybe could have been included on the list was raised in an earlier post, and i definitely see the case to be made for him; it only allowed me 10 poll choices unfortunately, so i had to decide who i felt were truly expendable... truth be told if i could have i would have also included matt flynn, andy dalton (i guess?), matt ryan, and probably stafford.

there have been a number of interesting statistics that people have referenced that i think would merit his inclusion in the poll over some of the other candidates such as matt schaub, but in the end i went with the names i felt people would most likely go with to start their franchise

The only reason not to pick Rodgers is age and he's 28 so its not that big of a deterrent. I could still understand it though.
