my new mock draft....3/27/07

1. Alan Branch DT-6'5 324 pounds- very powerful, a very good run stoppers which is something the rams really need. great at making plays behind the line of scrimmage. would put the rams run defense back to respectable.

2. Brandon Merweather SS-5'10 195 pounds- a very good safety in coverage, very physical who will make huge hits. Chavous is getting old so Meriweather would be a great SS for the future, he would have probably been a top 25 pick if he didnt have character issues.

3. Justin Durant- OLB- 6'1 230 pounds- can play all three linebacker positions in college, he is fast and is a great tackler. he is also a very hard worker, i know theres been articles out saying how much the rams coaching staff loves Chillar but i wonder how much of that is actually true. and Chris Draft could play SLB but i'm beggining to think the rams got him to backup Pisa who has had a load of injuries in the past.

4. Yamon Figurs- WR/KR/PR- 5'11 175 pounds- would be a nice 4th WR for the rams and is an explosive return man, somethin gthe rams havent had in about 5 years. is a great runner after the catch, could be this years Devin Hester in the draft.

5. Kyle Young C/OT/OG- 6'5 254 pounds- rams have a pretty solid offensive line with Pace/Setterstrom/romberg/Incognito/Barron.....but they dont really have great backups, Mccolumm and stuesse are the only 2 really, who knows whats going to happen with Claude Terrell and Kyle Young can play Tackle, Guard and Center so he would be a great backup.

6. Ahmad Bradshaw RB- 5'9 198 pounds- would be a great backup to Jackson. is a great reciever out of the backfield, pretty ellusive as a runner and can return kicks as well.

7A. Xzavie Jackson DE/DT- 6'3 278 pounds- would be a nice depth guy at the DE position for the rams, he is very powerful and plays mean. very good against the run, and is a hard worker.

7B. Courtney Brown CB- 6'1 200 pounds- would add some competiton for that 4th CB spot for the rams, is very good in coverage, very fast, good hands and is a very good tackler who isnt afraid to get his nose dirty.

7C. Brandon Fields P 6'5 240 pounds- its looking more and more like Turk wont be back with the rams next season and i dont know how comfortable they are with BJ Sanders as the only punter on the roster. Brandon Fields has a ton of punting experience and has a very powerful leg, avegaing 45 yards per punt total through 200+ punts in his college career.

Love your 1st 2 picks as Branch is a Run Stopping Tackle which every DT on the current roster isn't. Meriweather is a playmaker similar to Ed Reed and Brian Dawkins who will help our secondary immensely.

The first two picks are great though i'm not sure meriweather will fall to us in the 2nd i wish though :). I like the kyle young pick as well.

Good picks, but I have to agree that Merriweather won't be there in the 2nd.

What about Dameyon Hughes the CB/return specialist in the 2nd.

I have been thinking we could be all headed for a huge surprise come draft day. These are a few options which could arise. Currently I would be ecstatic with
1. Alan Branch DT-6'5 324 pounds
2. Brandon Merweather SS-5'10 195 pounds
as our first two picks, I actually had these two in a mock I did last year so I am sticking with it.

Our 1st rounder is the 13th pick. Hopefully Branch or Okoye are available either would be the pick.

However if they are gone we are in a hole. Ted Ginn would be a great addition but DEFENSE is what we need, particularly run defense. Now at the moment our D-Line aside from Little is useless, Our LB are actually decent if u ask me, Secondary is pretty weak with Tye Hill the only real playmaker and Bartell more of a nickel corner. DE could possibly be used at this pick but I think its too high for Moss, Johnson, Spencer. Carriker is possible but I just feel he could be gone and he is a tweener between a DE and a 3technique DT. I think we should trade down to the 16-21 range and in doing so get an extra pick somewhere between the 3rd and 4th rounds maybe. Once here we should trade again using this extra pick along with our 2nd to move up in the 2nd rd preferebly between picks 34-41. Our 2nd rd pick is currently no.52 a place we really don't want to be. With these picks here's what I would do:

1st Rd pick 16-21
Brandon Meriweather
Although he is listed at SS he is going to be a FS/CB in the NFL. He has played every position in the secondary so he has experience. I think aside from some character concerns he is a Top 12 pick based on Talent and Potential. As far as I am concerned he is the next Brian Dawkins and possibly if he puts his mind to it the next Ed Reed (who was a Hurricane himself) He is a ball hawk, with great speed for a S and enough speed for a CB who can make authorative hits. He would improve our Secondary immediately and will challenge Atogwe for the FS spot or even crack the team as our 2nd CB. Also just to add to this he played against Calvin Johnson this year. Johnson's stats 5 rec 68yds 1td. The TD was a 1 yd. Meriweather started at CB opposite Johnson and after giving Johnson a 43 yd catch he shut him out. Johnson's other 2 receptions against Meriweather resulted in 4 yrds in one series with 9 minutes left in the 4th. CJ's other two catches were against K Phillips. So actually 3 rec 48 yds 1TD. Too me that shows Meriweather can play against the most elite WR's especially to come back like that after one play.

RD 2: This is where it gets interesting. D-Line is the way to go. By moving up hopefully Harrell falls out of the 1st which he could be in and we can snap him up if not him Tank Tyler are the way to go.

If all goes well hopefully Branch or Okoye in Rd 1 and I actually think we need to move up in Rd 2 and get Meriweather especially if he makes it out of the 1st which in all honesty could happen. Teams are now having to consider character concerns as suspensions are now a certainty for poor behaviour. I however feel with Meriweather in both cases with the gun, and the Stomping was actually defending his players and protecting them even though they were at the time and on video stupid decisions.
