with the bengals already out a third rounder, i find it very hard to belive they trade up. They have too many needs on defense for that. They can grab Timmons at 18 and Wilson or Weddle at 49.

Decent draft for Carolina. The thought of Steve Smith(a) lining up as a split end with Steve Smith(b) in the slot makes me chuckle. One issue though; Minter announced he's retiring after next season so drafting a safety is even more probable for us now than ever.

Carolina and New Orleans would NOT make a deal, and the Saints would not blow away their 2nd round pick to trade up for Hall he is not ahead of Houston, Revis, and Ross by that much. We would be content with one of them

Other picks are good.

Terrible phins mock! Not a good pick in there. None of those players fit our team and the schemes at all. The only decent pick is Rice, although I feel he is highly overrated. Also, there is no way Zach Miller falls to the 4th round! Are you nuts!? I would rather have him in the 2nd over Rice easily. Bad picks... Nice effort though

Maybe I am missing him along the way but did you fail to draft Zak DeOssie ? The consesus on him is round 4 talent in a draft with little depth at his position. There is buzz about him going as high as round 2.

Mcnight in round 4 is improbable. He is potentially undrafted. Chicago and Palko that high is a mistake. Undersized lefty Qb.... McNown.... mistake by the lake part II....

The first two picks for the Jets are beastly. Getting both Revis and Spencer would be amazing. Hunt is a bad pick. When would he play when we have Thomas Jones and Leon Washington? A better pick would be Alama-Francis since DE is still a need. Rest of the picks are solid.

Actually the Saints traded up with Kansas City who were one spot in front of Carolina to take Brown.

I do agree, that trade won't happen.

I still don't understand why people don't see the need for a starting safety. They have Carolina drafting WRs (3rd WR at best being Smith and Johnson, battling with Drew Carter) instead of looking where there is a huge hole. Read my sig regarding safeties.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them pull the trigger on Nelson in round 1.

I'm not at all a fan of the vikings passing on Brady Quinn for LaRon Landry. Especially seeing as how Childress is reportedly quite high on Quinn. The rest of the Vikings draft was decent, though.

apparently you need english lessons. the prepositional phrase "on your mock" should've been a clue that the statement meant "on your mock" as in, about the picks made in your mock. but hey, why not try to "gotcha" someone else? i mean, it'll certainly make you more popular around here.

Good Steelers draft until round five. Hall doesn't fit their system and they don't need a Kicker. They could use a Punter though.

I'd switch one to Doug Datish and the other to Zak DeOssie. Then it would be a great five round for the Steelers.

JT Jag
03-28-2007, 06:14 PM
Very mediocre Jaguars mock.

Timmons is a good value at the Jags' pick, but Nelson is still available, and Safety is a much bigger need for the team then linebacker. The team may need an opening-day starter at free-safety. Not the case with linebackers.

I'd definately take Tim Crowder in the second. Tanard Jackson is a HUGE reach at a minor need position.

Steve Smith may be a prudent selection in the third, if a prospect as good as he weren't available in the fourth in your draft. I'd take him if it weren't for that. Gattis is an alright pick. I like Quincy Black, too.

In the fourth, I love Johnnie Lee Higgens and honestly don't know why you both don't have him going higher and don't have the Jaguars picking him--- he's exactly what the Jaguars need, and is a much better prospect then Courtney Taylor.

In the 5th, all I know is that I don't like Leak. He's nothing. I'm a Doug Datish fan, though--- big guys who can play multiple positions on the line are great for depth.

That is a pretty solid Pats mock. There is not 1 very bad pick in those 5 rounds for us. In round 4 you gave us Rhema McKnight. With corners like Fred Bennet, Tarrel Brown, and Kenny Scott on the board, give us one of them and give us a ILB, DE/OLB, WR, or RB instead of Tim Mixon in the fifth.

ROUND ONE
20. New York Giants – Chris Houston CB Arkansas

51. New York Giants- Kenny Irons HB Auburn

81. New York Giants- Brandon Frye OT Virginia Tech

116. New York Giants- Kasey Studdard OG Texas- fred bennett

1st round- very good pick: A-
2nd round- poor pick: C
Irons is a good player but a late round HB would make more sense. We have droughns and jacobs and to spend a 2nd round pick on a hb would b silly when we have so many other needs
give us justin durant there to help with our LB problem- or may be justin harrell to add to DT depth
3rd round- B- Correct position addressed, we definently need depth at the OT position and after Luke P was cut, we may need a potential starter here but personally i think with Steve Smith on the board, and our thin WR corp, that would be a more intriguing option truthfully
4th round- C+- definently, if not in the 3rd round, address oline here or the best HB available
1. Chris houston
2. Justin Durant
3. Steve Smith
4. Studdard
This would be a pretty damn good draft imo

yeah, why defend picks you made... i mean, realistically, you could just poll each team's board and ask who they'd want and be done with it and get the same result as what you describe.

Michael Griffin is a solid enough pick – can contribute on special teams and eventually replace Rodney Harrison, although Aaron Ross or Darrelle Revis could be better picks, as Asante Samuel’s contract situation is muddy right now and Ellis Hobbs has a big mouth and could be falling out of favor off the field. Not a big Jon Beason fan, especially for the Patriots. Our LBs range from about 245-270, so he’d be pretty severely undersized and unlike some of the other guys who I like, he didn’t have excellent production. Belichick doesn’t really like drafting early linebackers. I would like Posluszny a lot, but Ross or someone like Brian Leonard or Ryan Kalil might be a better pick there. I like Griffin/Ross a lot as a pair because they have chemistry from college, both are excellent on special teams, and Ross has nickel back experience. However, Belichick has shown that he loves safeties on the late first day or early second day (Gus Scott, Dexter Reid, James Sanders, etc.), so that might be a more likely spot to try and add Rodney Harrison’s replacement, and there’s a good chance he likes Eric Weddle more than Michael Griffin in the back. Not sure about Michael Coe. He’s underdeveloped and not really well suited to the NFL’s new rules limiting the effectiveness of press corners. Not a bad pick at all, but there are better picks. Maybe Dwayne Wright, seeing as Maroney had “fairly significant shoulder damage”, and Belichick has connections to Fresno St. coach Pat Hill. Another possibility could be Zach Miller, as he’s an excellent value there, Belichick loves tight ends, and other than Kyle Brady, who is 33 and I believe on a one-year deal, we’re lacking a quality blocking tight end. Rhema McKnight makes a bit of sense in the fourth, but again, I could probably think of a better person there. He’s a good route runner from a similar offense, but at the same time New England has already invested a lot of money in wide receivers and if Troy Brown returns, we’ll have our deep threat in Stallworth, intermediate threat in Washington, slot guy in Welker, plus Jabar Gaffney, who was excellent in the playoffs, Reche Caldwell, who was extremely productive last year considering he was a cheap free agent pickup, Chad Jackson, who is developing slowly and battling injuries but who was a second round pick with excellent measurables, and Brown, who might contribute more at cornerback than wide receiver. We also re-signed Bam Childress, so there are a good eight guys we could have on roster by opening day, which is plenty. As far as picks that I would prefer to McKnight (who, like I said, I like, but isn’t really a need at all and would rarely, if ever, see the field), possibilities could be Dan Santucci (quality line depth, disciple of Weis, who runs a similar blocking scheme and provided us with Dan Stephenson last year, who was a sixth round pick), Fred Bennett (excellent value at this point, has everything you look for but polish), Brian Robison (who seems to be the type of linebacker Belichick might fancy), Matt Spaeth (see reasons mentioned for Zach Miller) or Doug Datish. I’m not really sure about Tim Mixon, either. I suppose in the late fifth he could be worth a shot. In the matchup between California and USC, neither he nor Daymeion Hughes had much luck stopping Steve Smith and Dwayne Jarrett (combined for 11 catches and two touchdowns.) Best player available here, and I’m not really sold on him that soon. This is probably where Belichick would go to grab a linebacker. Hopefully this helps with future mocks. It wasn’t really that bad, but there are some things you could easily fix in future mocks. Really, swapping Beason with Posluszny would have made it vastly better, as I don’t see Beason contributing in the way that DeMeco Ryans did last year for the Texans, but I could definitely see Posluszny coming out and having a season like that.

If the Bengals make any movement at all, I see a trade down to get that 3rd rounder back. There are some quality CBs, Safeties, and LBers still on the board at 18 and likely will be if we back up to 24 or so. Too many defensive needs to give up another pick in your suggested trade. Willis is a nice pick though.

03-31-2007, 11:51 AM
Explain why the Texans would take Troy Smith in the 3rd round after giving up so much to bring in Matt Schaub to be our franchise QB?

Outside of that, moving back to #18 to get Marshawn Lynch wouldn't be bad, although with Chris Houston, Darrelle Revis, or Michael Griffin available I'd probably have to go with one of them first.

Quinn Pitcock in the 2nd wouldn't be bad either, I personally would probably prefer Victor Abiamiri, Anthony Gonzalez, or Josh Beekman there.

As I previously said, Troy Smith in the 3rd is ridiculous, Craig Davis, Steve Smith, Paul Williams, or Earl Everett would be far better.

Michael Johnson in the 4th would be pretty good, although if Lorenzo Booker is available I could see them taking him instead, although obviously not if we take Lynch in the 1st.

I don't particularly like Soliai in the 5th, our main concern on the DLine is getting a better pass rush and Soliai isn't optimal at that, and taking him after getting Pitcock earlier in the draft doesn't make a ton of sense either.
