View Full Version : Tebowmaina vs. Linsanity

Similar, different, or nothing alike?

Both succeed, totally different situations, or both should brace for a big fall?

Why does one polarize a nation and one does not?

Well... Lins actually playing like a good PG where as Tebow was not playing particularly well for his position so there's a difference there... I guess they both win...

bigbluedefense

Simply put, Lin is good.

If Tebow was in the NBA, it would be equivalent to a SF scoring 7 points and 3 rebounds a game and having the same following as Jeremy Lin.

Lin is actually playing like a very good player. Tebow isn't.

Because no one knows whom Lin is. Because he's not on TV every day. Because he's a fad. Because no one cares about the Knicks since they've been bad so long, it almost feels like an underdog story to see the Knicks winning.

Lin has probably 1/1,000,000 of the follower that Tebow has.

Just a bad comparison.

If Lin continues to develop his game and consistency, all at once saving D'Antoni's job and becoming the Knicks starting PG for years to come, we all may be witnessing the ascendance of an truly historic NBA talent.
The Asian version of Jackie Robinson.
Lin is Tony Parker with a better game around the basket. If he wasn't Chinese, he would have been drafted two years ago out of Stanford or UCLA, instead of Harvard.

Tebow wins despite not looking anything like an NFL QB. That's his appeal. Faith in God, himself and incredible effort/passion for the game.

Lin is like OMG~~!!! Because he can actually play b-ball at the NBA level, is 6'3, can shoot treys and floaters, and can dunk off one leg driving to the basket.

If the Knicks make it to the playoffs with Lin as their starting PG the entire season, he's going to be the most high profile professional athlete possibly in the entire world in 2012.

Melo/Stoudamire/Chandler....that's arguably the best front line in the NBA for a PG who's always thinking about setting up his scorers first.

bigbluedefense

Yeah. Too bad Melo the ball hog will be jealous of Lin's popularity and try to destroy our ball movement once he comes back.

I swear Melo, you better not **** this up.

Tebowmania will be bigger as long as he has the sounding board of Skip Bayless. Skip is addicted to the "gamer, baller, shot caller". Lin still needs to get one of these...

Lin just plays with such poise that you have to ask scouts what are they looking at when they draft players. I doubt he was stereotyped for being of Chinese descent but i'm sure all scouting reports had an asterisk aftem them that screamed Ivy league.

Similar, different, or nothing alike? That ****** Jason Whitlock, the "professional journalist" thinks there's some differences apparently:

http://aol.sportingnews.com/nba/story/2012-02-12/jason-whitlock-apologizes-for-offensive-jeremy-lin-tweet

Fox Sports’ racist Jason Whitlock apologized for an insensitive-at-best, and racist-at-worst, tweet about Asian Knicks guard Jeremy Lin, which Whitlock posted after Lin’s 38-point performance against the Lakers on Friday.

In a thinly-veiled reference to a stereotype about Asian men, Whitlock tweeted, “Some lucky lady in NYC is gonna feel a couple of inches of pain tonight.”

Actually, there were plenty of jokes about Tebow's admirable Christianity too, from infidels. Different deal, but both faced insults about non-sports things because of who they are.

Imagine someone going after Whitlock's people like that.... wait, Don Imus tried, and he got fired. Moving on.....

Can't do much and will never be dominant. Tebow just got lucky and won a number of games thanks to his defense and kicker.

Whenever I've played pickup ball and people have to select teams, if an Asian guy shows up completely unknown, he's usually one of the last dudes selected.

Of course Lin faced an Asian bias from recruiters.

NOT ONE Pac 12 school or West Coast b-ball program offered him a scholarship out of HS, despite being named the Northern Cali POTY and winning a state title against Mater Dei.

If we wanna pick someone who can play man D, hit open treys and grab rebounds, Asians lose.

It's not right, but as a society I feel we are getting better as the years go by. The racism I saw as a kid vs what I see now is day and night. Hopefully in another 10 years it won't exist at all. Let's hope.

Well yeah it's two different sports. The WRs rules alone making the inside WR position alone hard. Not to mention, he needed Hixon to get hurt AND stokley to get his quad injury which meant we weren't waiting for Stokley, so we cut him, and Cruz emerged. So a lot of things had to break just for Cruz to get playing time.

However, the impact of 2 guys coming out of no where in the NY market is what I am comparing. Other than that 2 different sports, so it's hard to compare. Plus Cruz and Lin are more comparable than Lin and damn Tebow.

It's an interesting deal.
Inside the locker room, even back to the Michael Irvin days, many players would joke about these things in the locker room.
Hell, many people do amongst themselves, with their black or white or asian or hispanic friends.

I know I'm white, I know I can't dance like the brothers can. No big deal.
That IS a stereotype and it DOES have SOME truth to it. Most of em do. No big deal. But the big deal is that a SMALL fraction of people somehow get offended, so it ruins humor for everyone.

The majority always have to conform to the minority-who-*****-and-threaten-or-actually-sue about it.

Name the last white guy who was even given a fair chance at being a CB in the NFL. Now tell me why that is.......

With JR Smith on the roster and Melo returning.....eventually, the Knicks have sneaky good team with Tyson Chandler giving D'Antoni's run and gun system a needed defensive presence.

And when Baron Davis is ready to contribute, hell I think the Knicks can take just about anybody in a seven game series. They have depth at PG, SG and foward.

The key for the Knicks IMO is Baron Davis coming back strong, Lin holding serve and 'Melo adapting to the scheme.

Magic Johnson really nailed it about why Lin is an NBA caliber player; he loves the upgrade in competition and isn't afraid to compete. He thrives on big moments and secretly loves the spotlight of clutch situations.

Psychologically a lot of athletes can handle playing for NYC pro sports teams.
Jeremey Lin is eating that sheet up.

If you're a White corner starting for at least two years at a BCS school and are actually any good in college,(all conference,AA) of course you're going to get a shot from some NFL team to prove you can man the position in the NFL.

THe Pats Julian Edelman is a sick enough athlete that after playing QB in college, he switched to WR and even became the Pats nickel corner.

If you are genuinely good enough and are outplaying your teammates in training camp, most head coaches and DCs with half a brain will find a place for you high on the depth chart.

Where are all the White corners?
Playing college and pro soccer IMO.

Thought I would put this here since this is sort of a tebow thread...

Brady Quinn talks about Tebows "success" in a upcoming issue of GQ.

The entire game, the defensive line is chasing the quarterback around, and that wears down the pass rush. Meanwhile, the defensive backs are chasing receivers, but you only throw eight passes, so they start to feel lazy. It only takes that one play, that one big pass, for a touchdown.

Ben & Jerry's is apologizing for briefly offering a Jeremy Lin-inspired frozen yogurt that included fortune cookie pieces, in an acknowledgement that the dish could be seen as playing on Asian stereotypes.

"On behalf of Ben & Jerry's Boston Scoop Shops we offer a heartfelt apology if anyone was offended by our handmade Linsanity flavor that we offered at our Harvard Square location,'' the company said Saturday on its BenJerryBoston Twitter account.

Boston.com reported Friday that Ben & Jerry's replaced the fortune cookies with waffles after what a store manager called "a bit of an initial backlash.'' The cookies were also soggy in some batches.

People just don't know how to handle a popular Asian. Fortune cookies aren't even of Chinese heritage haha.
