He said "the 3rd pick" which, that's the Vikings and no.
I think he's being overvalued a bit. Why not just leave him there? Even if he wants out the Titans can tell him no and he's stuck with it. He's the backup QB so holding out will accomplish nothing other than draining his wallet with fines.
Ah, ok. My bad.
I don;t believe in Ponder, but it's probably too early to give up on him and Kalil is a sure thing, so the Vikes should stay put. The Browns at #4 overall, though...
In any case, if I run the Titans, no way in hell do I trade Locker just because I sign Manning. That kid is staying and learning, whether he likes it or not.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/03/15/contract-for-life-would-require-two-contracts-league-approval/
Titans owner Bud Adams has offered Peyton Manning a contract “for life.” As crazy as it sounds in the salary-cap era, it can happen.
Per a source with knowledge of the league’s procedures, Manning and the Titans would be required to sign two contracts: one for the work as player, and one for the job as a non-player. The second job would have to be a “real job,” and the wages for the second job would have to represent fair market value. Manning would have to actually perform the duties of the job after his playing career ends.
Also, the entire arrangement would require league approval.
There would be no cap charge during Manning’s playing career. However, if the second contract pays higher than fair market value or if Manning doesn’t perform the services required, the Titans would face salary cap charges and other penalties for circumventing the cap, including fines and possible loss of draft choices.
To the extent that the contract “for life” would entail purchasing a portion of the team, there would be salary cap implications. Before getting to that point, the transaction would have to be approved by a vote of the 32 owners.
It’s unknown whether Adams would attempt to convey minority ownership of the Titans to Manning.
Bud Adams is out of his god damned mind.

Nashville radio reporting Peyton has signed with the Titans.
3 years, $67 million, option for a 4th
Who exactly on the radio?
The Titans finally have a guy who can be our franchise QB, I don't think we trade him just because we sign a 36yr old QB with a bad neck (if that were to happen)
This. There's a plan for Locker for both scenarios. If Manning actually does sign with Tennessee, and it is for 3 years, then that means Manning will become a FA as Locker becomes one. The Titans would have to make a choice based on potential rather than results and re-sign Locker to franchise QB type money, or franchise Locker so they can get a year of results in. Adding a 4th flex year to Manning's deal would give them flexibility, so if say Locker held out after being franchised (Highly doubt he would based on his character, but hypothetically), then Manning could be brought back and play for most of the season until Locker was forced to play his remaining games. Then based on those games and if Locker had settled down, then re-sign Locker to a megadeal.
Titans are looking to have a TON of money tied up in few players over the next four years should Manning sign and Locker be re-signed. CJ got his, then Manning would have an obscene amount, then Kenny Britt may require an even bigger contract than CJ due to the Fitz and Megatron deals, and then re-signing Locker to franchise QB money. Have to extend/replace Roos at some point too.
Bud Adams is out of his god damned mind.

We'll cross the Locker bridge when/if it comes. My first argument is that he'd 100% HAVE to demand a trade. Then I'll argue against Seattle aquiring him because I don't like his pro prospects.
But that is all contingent on the foregone conclusion that Manning is and will continue to be healthy based on the evidence we've been given - mainly that every professional he's consulted has cleared him, he's already throwing, someone with a similar injury has come back 100% from it, and he's being wooed and offered huge money and years by many, many NFL teams that employ much more qualified medical professionals than your average internet message boarder.

He signed a 5 yr deal as a rookie.
He will be a FA after the 2013 season. I would let him play for the 755k he is scheduled this year.
Unless the terms of the contract is that he signed a true extension maybe a 5 yr 50m extension that leaves his contract the same until it expires. Essentially locking him up until 2018. So he'd remain at 755k and 1.3m the next two seasons before jumping to close to 10m yr.
I don't see any reason to pay him closer to 10m this season or next season if we don't have to

Britt's price increases as the seasons go forward. He'll be putting up better stats, will have become the best player on offense, and will keep adding time between his past arrests and the present. So if the Titans want to save, then the sooner the better.
Roos and Stewart hit FA in different years. Roos in 2014, and Stewart in 2015. The FO will probably wait to extend ATV and McCourty until after watching them both be full time starters this year without Finny.
Britt is a 2014 FA, so he has two years left.

I'm really not worried about it, to be honest. ACL's aren't career crushers like they used to be, and by all accounts, Britt has recovered well and has had plenty of time to do so. I'd be worried if he were smaller or relied on his explosiveness more, but what makes Britt special is his physicality. He's a bully when the ball's in the air, and combine that with his size, he gets separation that way more so than he does with his speed. Still, he wouldn't be as special without that long speed and leaping ability. Hass has talked about how he's had to pull Kenny aside and tell him to slow down on certain routes where it's designed for the other WR's to pull coverage, but Britt is still beating the other WR's downfield so the coverage is electing to go to him, lol.
Unless it's a true extension like I mentioned, it won't save us anything.

It'd be an extension of his rookie deal, like you said. Preferrably do this next offseason, so Britt would finish his rookie deal the next season and then hit the increase.
You're right, you're right. Between Spotrac and my memory, I was mixing myself up. Spotrac listed Roos as a 2014 FA, then lists his 2014 salary, so that's just wrong. I know Roos's rookie contract had one more year than Stewart, so Stewart was a RFA since he hadn't accrued enough years, and Roos was heading into his final year in '08. Ok, this makes sense now. Stewart served his tender, giving him 4 years total, then hit his 6 years, and Roos finished the final year of his 4 years, then hit his 6 years. That's why they sync up. Hopefully Stewart doesn't opt out of his 6th year.
mightytitan9
03-15-2012, 05:31 PM
I'd like to have Britt at least do a midseason extension just make sure everythings ok (which I fullly expect it to be)
And I don't think Roos or Stewart will ever leave as long as munch and bruce are here. Assuming they play out the contracts (not sure who's option it is to void) Roos and Stewart would be 33 I believe, so it's not hard to see them declining by then. I hope they can both play til they're 35 at least but we'll see

At this point, it's almost definitely going to be Tennessee.
Aside from being his home state, I think Peyton would feel most comfortable controlling the Titans offense.
He can groom Locker to be a stud, and with Kenny Britt coming back and TE Jared Cook looking beastly at times last year, he has his #1 WR/TE combo.
Also, Tennessee's O-Line is a better than Arizonas, and personally, I think Denver would be an awful idea.
You don't completely rewrite your playbook for your running QB, just to sign Peyton and rewrite it all over again, it'd be two completely different offenses and that'll take time.

And can everyone stop trying to compare WRs, o-lines and playbooks. This has nothing to do with it. Any of the four main teams can offer him what he wants in that respect. The valuation of the stock would count against the salary cap, so I'm assuming that most of his compensation would be in the form of team stock, rather than the stock being paid in addition to his salary. My guess is that this would get approved by the owners and league office this one time, and then they'll pass a rule against it.
Mort said it won't happen because its too complicated, so that makes me think that it probably is going to happen.

I just read the article...
In fact, according to Mortensen, the Titans are still in the mix.
Is it just me, or is this, like, the 37th time this week that we've heard "according to Mortensen, the [whatevers] are still in the mix." That has to be the quote of the week.
Thank God that Peyton has never been a Free Agent before, because he sure knows how to drive a bidding war. I'm hoping he somehow ends up with a bigger contract than the Colts gave him last year. Just for the lulz.

At this point the Cardinals are out. They'll pay Kolb and give that another year.

I know isn't Peyton news but I don't give a ****.
Scott Wells is close to signing with the Tennessee Titans. This addition would completely change the look of the offensive line, especially when you couple it with the addition of Steve Hutchinson.
For two year's we've ranted and raged about the poor play in the middle of the o-line, and the front office has finally responded by signing two of the most prolific and well-respected veteran linemen in the league. Sure, they're long in the tooth, but they're the kind of linemen who Munch and Bruce can use to make this line the powerhouse it was for the prior decade.
Also contained in that same report is the idea that the Titans are so tired of Eugene Amano's poor play at center that they could outright release him. With Scott leaving as a FA, that would mean next season's starting O-line would be Roos, Hutchinson, Wells, Harris and Stewart.

His contract demands do make Denver more likely. Elway would give up his first-born child if it meant he could get rid of Tebow.

How could anyone be surprised by this? Half the league wants to sign you and you're a quarterback. When someone says it's not about the money, what they mean is that they expect everyone to give them lots of money and pick between those teams. 5 years might be a little high, but I'd be surprised if he's getting anything less than 15-18 million per year.

5 years, 90 million is reasonable. Let's face it, that's probably only like 3 years, 45 million in reality. Totally worth it for every team rumored to be interested in him.
...if he passes the physical and a workout in front of the team's brass, who cares? It's a healthy Peyton Effing Manning.

Denver also started with top 3 in the league cap room and haven't really signed anyone else of note.
This will be Elway if he's stuck with Tebow again:

I'm guessing he's flexible on the years. If I'm not mistaken, 5 years would lower the cap number in the short term, by spreading out the signing bonus. But I know Jack about the CBA, so I could be wrong.

I don't know what I Manning to do. I don't want him in Tennessee because of Jake Locker mainly. I don't want him in Denver because of Tebow, I like Tebow mania. I don't him in San Fran because they will most likely win a SB.

shoney's is horrible.
YOU DON'T THINK I KNOW THAT?!
But when me and my sisters were little, the youngest one would ask, "Can we go eat someplace nice? Like Shoney's?" Either she was trolling my parents or my parents were trolling her by letting her think that. Also, I accidentally killed a baby duck once, blamed it on her, and got away with it. She grew up thinking she committed duck murder until she was a senior.
And that's the end of my story.

I want him anywhere other than San Fran. Literally, anywhere. I'd rather see him join the Vikings, and I hate that team.

Serial killers get their start by abusing and killing animals when they're young, so we pretty much just have to come up with a catchy headline type of name for TH. It's only a matter of time really. Unless... they've already been started.

Way off topic, but i had a sadistic neighbor growing up, around my age. He'd get off on killing the neighbor's baby ducks/chicks by smashing their heads with a stick. ******* psychopath, i swear. Not surprisingly, he ended up in jail shortly after his 17th birthday.

These 3 teams have to come away determined that Manning can be at the top of his game before they sign him. Hence the workouts for them. We'll see if he's really healthy in shorts, but there will be that time when he has to take a physical to determine if he can take a hit in real contact.

They might be happy to see the Collin Kaepernick era start.
I would. Yes sir. It would only suck if Kaepernick turned out to be Max Hall or John Skleton bad.

That was the last contract he signed about a year ago with the Colts. The one he said he'd be retiring with.
