Anyone want to give me a low 2013 pick for Dane Sanzenbacher?

Caddy

I won't be partaking in the UDFA circle jerk nor will I be submitting a FA application.

ChiFan24
03-01-2012, 01:23 AM
Yeah I don't really want a UDFA either.....I want to keep the roster at 53. Somebody offer me a seventh for Sanzenbacher and I'll call it a day.

Matthew Jones
03-01-2012, 08:38 AM
PM me if interested in Sergio Brown; I'm trying to get down to 53 players as well and willing to take a late-round pick in 2013 for Sergio. Brown played 349 snaps in 2012 and contributes on special teams.

BeerBaron
03-01-2012, 08:40 AM
There's no NEED to get down to 53 players right now. I'm not enforcing it in any way.

Btw, I thought I posted this here but I guess I didn't:

Please include the player's position and school on your UDFA offers.

I know, I just figured I'd give the players a shot to sign elsewhere in free agency considering they would be long-shots to make the roster as-is barring injuries, and I didn't want to hoard as many players as possible in order to prevent them from landing with other teams. I will most likely be looking to sign a number of undrafted free agents to fill out a practice squad, though, so be prepared! :P

Matthew Jones

BeerBaron, any chance you're going to post the winning bids of the UDFAs when announcing which team they have decided to sign with? It would be interesting to see how many points it took to secure each player.

Thompson is a two-year starter who played extensively during his sophomore season and at 6'0" and 210 pounds, running a 4.50, I wouldn't be surprised to see him picked in the fourth round or so in a very weak safety class.

Yep, everyone submits their ideal team with 24 guys that add up to 300 points, if you outbid someone those points come out of your 300, but if no one else bids on a player you get the player and lose no points. It takes a few rounds to get complete teams but it's fairly quick and the strategy behind bidding is fun.

So, what I'm going to do today:

Go through and announce the UDFAs who got bids of more than 1 point. Lots of people offered 1 pt to a lot of guys, so I'll hold off on doing them until the players with higher points have been sorted out. Then, I'll just go through the teams in draft order and give them their highest ranked 1 pt players. (Since that is the tiebreaker, it makes sense.)

Then I'll announce the 3rd round of FA veteran players.

Idonije is such an oddly shaped guy. I'd hate to lose him in real life because he's so well rounded, but we could use a better pass rushing threat opposite Peppers. I'd love to keep Idonije if we draft a rookie though.

BB, I'm sorry if the Ravens have been slacking but I've written about 20 pages worth of essays this week with 25 more to go before Monday, so hopefully TACKLE has submitted some stuff. If not I'm sorry, but I got way too much to do.

Otherwise....that's it for the official stuff.

I may take some time to do a big write up about everything I did for the Raiders, and I highly encourage everyone to do the same for their teams. Post your fully updated depth chart, talk about how everyone you signed fits in, etc.

Maybe, maybe, MAYBE...not this weekend...but starting Monday maybe if I'm not busy, I could do some season predictions based off of your moves. Like, project your record and such. No promises though, and I want to see some work out of you first by updating all your ****.

I talked about it some with tackle a while back, but would anyone be interested in doing a sim of this season and then doing a 2013 one round mock? We can vote on the draft order based on the moves and trades and such will roll over. If only a few people want to do it I'd be glad to set it up and we could do multiple teams, more the merrier though.

Yea just voting on the teams, no maddden and such. I was thinking vote for division winners, then playoffs/SB winners then just rank the rest. I'd probably so game recaps for the playoffs if there was enough interest. Or we could just rank the teams which is a lot faster but nowhere near as awesome.

Just made this official in the Timeline thread:

PRELIMINARY: SEASON SIMULATION AND 1 ROUND 2013 DRAFT
(This event is still under discussion, these are only preliminary discussions.)

Using some sort of voting system, we are planning to 'simulate" the 2012 season based off of our results of this offseason.

We will then have the first round of the 2013 draft with the order based on our voting results.

To be ready, please post your updated depth chart in the Depth Chart thread. Whittle it down to your 53 man roster. If you create a practice squad out of your younger guys, go for it.

I am asking that we just take it pretty easy this weekend though...I'm burnt out from three weeks of this.

So its first come first serve on free agents and UDFA's?

If you want. But I am going to institute the 53 man roster limit before the voting starts. You can create an 8 man practice squad for young players you don't want to cut. I believe they have to be players within their first 3 years with only a certain number of active games in their career. I'll try to find how it officially works and simplify it for us if need be.

The Patriots' practice squad is complete! I was originally going to call it a day after the initial haul, but I went back and looked through the list of players who were still unsigned and came away with a few guys I figured I didn't have the points to successfully bid on. I'd be down to do a 2013 mock. I'd even be interested in doing 2 rounds if it goes well, especially since I have the Skins 2nd rounder, but it doesn't sound like BB wants to do that, so I'd settle for 1 round.

I also like BB's suggestion of taking this weekend just to get depth charts/write ups done and then start prepping for what we're doing for the 2012 season and 2013 draft next week.

Hi, my name is Matthew Jones, and I'm a practice squadaholic. It's been roughly one minute since I relapsed by tinkering with my arrangement of fringe players. I saw Zach Hurd and just couldn't help myself. Here's who I have so far:

QB John Brantley
WR Patrick Edwards
TE Cory Harkey
OL Thomas Austin
OL Zach Hurd
LB Aaron Lavarias
DB Malcolm Williams
DB Jerrell Young

I look forward to more teams cutting players who I had man-crushes on during previous previous drafts, so I can continue to toy with the lives of NFL hopefuls.

I received some PMs asking this and no, we're not going to steal other people's practice squad players to your active roster. It's highly unlikely that anyone you sign in that fashion will change the result of your 2012 season.

Austin is intriguing because he has had some experience in New England's system already and the versatility to play center and guard. His presence on the practice squad will help offset the release of Rich Ohrnberger.

Wes Welker's holdout was expected. If we were allowed to negotiate contracts, I'd offer Wes a three-year, $27 million deal with the first two years guaranteed; $9 million per season, $18 million guaranteed. Basically this:

2012: $9 million*
2013: $9 million*
2014: $9 million

* guaranteed

There was no way Wes was going to hit free agency, but he deserves a fair, reasonable extension. Considering the franchise tag would pay Welker about $9.4 million, this would be a cap-friendly deal that would benefit both sides. The annual value of Welker's contract would be in line with what the Jets paid Santonio Holmes and the Dolphins paid Brandon Marshall, but I'm not sure what an "elite" free agent wide receiver would demand, and Welker will turn 31 this season, so three years is the longest contract the Patriots could offer.

Yes, I should just make everyone .500, as I said. Everyone whose team I didn't make at least 3 wins better is going to be pissed. Everyone worked very hard and participated well in this, but unfortunately, some teams will still suck.

Where do you want your wins? Who do I subtract your wins from? Hmm? I don't think you're beating the Giants twice again. I think the Eagles would be a scary team with the additions they made. The Cowboys are no worse than a .500 team. Good luck doing better than 1-5 in that division.

Somewhere, someone has to be mean and draw a line. But if you want to submit your vote as every team going .500, go for it.

Football is relative. You HAVE to consider every other team. If every team improves, then your team's improvement isn't going to stand out. You can't say, "Well last year we went 5-11 and our team is better this year so we're clearly going to win more than 5 games." Doesn't work that way.

i understand your dilemma but that doesnt mean i have to agree with your thought process. no way we are going 1-5 in the division next year first off. we should have won both our games against the cowboys, if it werent for boneheaded QB play. id expect 2 minimum and 3 is definitely feasible. Outside of that we should easily contend at home against carolina, minnesota, and cincy with 3 sophomore QBs on the road in a tough stadium. then on the road i see no reason we couldnt contend with tampa, st. louis, and cleveland. ill give baltimore, atlanta, pitt, and new orleans the edge but based on our schedule 7-8 wins should be expected with a QB not named Grossman or Beck...

If Tebow fails, Hoyer won't help. You'll be looking for a new QB. Supporting cast doesn't really mean much if your QB fails. I'm not saying he IS going to fail, but it's up in the air right now. Seattle's similar in that they have some great playmakers and a good defense but they won't be projected to have a great record with their QB situation.

Why is Tebow going to suddenly starting losing? Especially when their team got so much better.

I'm not saying he IS going to fail, but it's up in the air right now.

And no duh Hoyer has no starts, he's probably not quite at Tom Brady's level :). I got him for pretty cheap so either way, I think I'll be alright.

I never said you quoted me. You asked a general question to nobody in particular about a topic that several people are contributing to. Am I not allowed to answer a question if it's not to anyone in particular? What's the point of your post then if no one is allowed to respond?

You said you dont think Tebow is certain to fail. I said why do people think he's going to fail.

It doesnt take a genius to work out my post wasn't aimed at you.

6-10 will be good for the Broncos. Their schedule next year is just brutal. Let's say they go 3-3 in conference. The have to play at New England, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Cincinnati. I see that as, at best, 1-3. Home games against Pittsburgh, Houston, and New Orleans won't be picnics either. In fact, I'd bet if Tebow is starting those, Denver goes 0-3 in those games. They also host Tampa Bay and travel to Carolina. Win both of those and they are 6-10.

I believe he's...highly likely...to fail.

Oh come on BB, do the additions of Williams and McFadden really mean nothing? They finished tops in the division and I really don't see how the Chargers improved that much. No offense to JBond, but his OLine is weaker as is his receiving core. So Rivers gets less talent around him (except on D, that's gonna be awesome) and the Chargers improve but I upgrade almost every position and I finish in 3rd? Plus the Cheifs lose Bowe and potentially start a rookie at QB.
I'm a Tebow hater myself, but I think you really undervalue the acquisitions. I'm not trying to complain, I just don't see how it adds up. Plus this is just a prediction, but do you really think he's going to be that much worse?
/end rant

They "won" the division at 8-8 in a division where every other team had to crap all down their legs for them to win it.

Interesting point. I think they win two tops on the road. You're overrating Pittsburgh considering their D is getting so old and they won't have Mendenhall. Plus New Orleans lost Meachem, Colston, Thomas, and they have so much instability within the organization with the whole Bountygate thing. So I think Non-con they'll go 5-5, maybe 6-4. Plus the conference doesn't seem any stronger. I know this is opinion based and not the vote yet. I'm done talking about it because I don't want to sound like a *****.

I could see Denver winning that conference at 7-9 but it's more a statement about how terrible the conference is

And while the Chargers have the only decent QB I'd have them finishing last

I really like their front 7 upgrades. It'll be runt to watch. In fact I think all four of our teams improved the front seven pretty well. I just don't seeing them being good. Especially with how misfortunate the line has been.I'm gonna post my roster by 7 EST just FYI.

Sure just PM what you think the draft order will be (so worse team #1, SB winner #32). I'll take votes until it slows down a ton.

Remember to take into account things like playoff teams picking 21-32, each division has to have a division winner, both conferences send 2 wildcard teams...etc.
