Real cap casualties for Pittsburgh so far:

WR Arnaz Battle
CB Bryant McFadden
WR Hines Ward
DE Aaron Smith
OG Chris Kemoeatu

descendency
03-01-2012, 04:37 PM
Patriots:
Matt Light, OT (I think cutting him saves like 5 million)
Dan Koppen, C (technically a free agent, but there is no way he's brought back)
Ron Brace, DT (maybe not so much a cap casualty as a 'he sucks' casualty)
Chad Ochocinco (reportedly, he's restructuring though...)

It'd probably be best to restructure Ocho since I saw that it would cost the team 3.7 million to cut him.

So glad the days of ridiculous rookie deals are over.

Not really sure I know what you mean. It's a matter of whether or not Collins is healthy enough to continue his career.

And I really don't see Hawk being released.

Hit all his incentives and such(probowl/starts) so the last year of this contract jumped like 10 mil

Saints

WR Devery Henderson
LB Scott Shanle
LB Jonathan Vilma (if no trade interest)

That's all I can think of since I don't see the team doing something drastic like cutting S Roman Harper

It's the last year of his rookie deal. It's a common tactic to put a high cap number in the last year to force both sides to negotiate an extension prior to the final year, though $18 is a lot higher than it normally is. The Packers had the same situation with AJ Hawk last year. They couldn't agree to a deal before the big cap number kicked in, so they cut him to avoid paying it before re-siging him to a fairer deal. Calvin Johnson, from the same draft class as Brown, also has $18.5 kicking in this season. It's the same thing, but the difference is that Calvin has performed well enough that if they can't get a deal done it's not completely outrageous to pay him that much for one year.

49ers

CB Shawntae Spencer $3.2m

I think thats pretty much it. 49ers have been awesome the last few years in regards to good signings/draft picks and not being in the situation that they were in 8 years ago when nearly everyone was gone.

WR Calvin Johnson is one of the few players who's worth $21m for one year but Lions need to extend ASAP and need to restructure Stafford and Suh. Plus, they should let Corey Williams and Burelson go. They dont need either. Do that and at the very least, they should be able to re-sign Tulluch and Avril. After that, Finnegan/Griffin???

According to Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole, the Saints and free agent Drew Brees remain "roughly $5 million a year apart" on a new contract.
That's a lot of ground to make up by Monday's franchise tag deadline. The Saints could free up $5 million by restructuring Will Smith's contract, and another $11 million by cutting MLB Jonathan Vilma and DT Sedrick Ellis.

How good is Sedrick Ellis?

SuperMcGee
03-01-2012, 05:53 PM
Would've expected Terrence McGee to be gone, but he restructured his contract recently. I think he's done, regardless. Can't stay healthy, but if they're willing to give him a chance, my username has remained relevant longer than most.

Don't really foresee much else. Kelsay is unkillable and is probably more likely to get a 5 year extension (I actually don't want him gone). The only odd possibilities would exist at corner, but I don't feel that they'd want to get rid of Florence or that McKelvin is that far out of favor, but you never know. They did go right after Routt, though, and a lot can change by camp.

Can see Shanle getting released but Henderson and Vilma? No way. Who would the Saints have at WR if Henderson gets released? Colston and Meachem are UFA's. Vilma is probably the Saints second best defensive player after Harper. I would be shocked to see him released and Ellis??? Isnt Ellis only in his third season or something?

Saints could be a lesser team in 2012. This is going to be one hell of an interesting off-season.

Lions should cut Corey Williams but they won't do it. Maybe they can deal him. A good player but not necessary with Sammie Lee Hill and Nick Fairley on the roster.

Must've misunderstood. I didn't know the injury was as serious as that, although just the term "neck injury" should've been enough. That's a shame, one of my favorite safeties since he was drafted.

Expected cuts:
Kamerion Wimbley
John Henderson
Cooper Carlisle
Hiram Eugene
Chris Johnson

Renegotiate or walk:
Michael Huff (I'd say less than 50/50 he stays)
Aaron Curry (70% he stays)
Tommy Kelly (80% he stays)

Expected to renegotiate and stay:
Darren McFadden
Darrius Heyward-Bey
Carson Palmer

I don't think I would agree with it, but I could see the Raiders extending Richard Seymour to minimize his $15 million cap hit this season.

Kamerion Wimbley's 2012 contract becomes fully guaranteed March 13. His 2013 contract and a portion of 2014 also becomes guaranteed at that time. I know the Raiders are working on a new contract with him, but my expectation is that it will not happen. So although the Raiders still pay $6 million for him to play on another team (saving only $4.5), they save a lot more over the life of the contract.

For the Broncos the only one I can think of is Andre Goodman. He is due 4 mill and he is old (34)and on the downside of his career, I expect him to be cut.

There'd likely be some sort of injury settlement if they cut him. It happens all the time with severe injuries like that and isn't shady at all. In an environment where your payroll is capped, such decisions have to be made b

What happened to Brown? He was a good OLman just a couple of years ago...Man the Rams tried and bombed on building an OL, didn't they?

Yeah what happened to Brown? He was just the highest paid C in the league.

He was gonna be part of the young awesome Ravens line that wasn't ever going to break up. I thought that we would be set with Gaither, Grubbs, Brown, Yanda, & Oher for a good while and it only lasted about 1 season.

he left before we picked up Oher and we picked up Birk. Still Gaither/Grubbs/Birk/Yanda/Oher was sick. Then Gaither drama went through the roof and the coach who built it got cut as a scapegoat for Cam. So Harbs was able to succesfully take the best oline in football with 4 players 25 and under and make it an inconsistent cluster in 2 seasons

He signed a deal coming of his best year in 2007 when he went to the pro bowl. He's not that good but still a very good corner. Main issue is injuries. Got injured in 2008 for 8 games and then missed 12 this year. Pats would be good fit for him.

What happened to Michael Oher?

Went to RT as a rookie and was amazing. Went to LT as a sophomore and that was just a hot mess. Came back to RT his 3rd year and had flashes of being horrendous but flashes of looking good. I hope we keep him at RT through OTAs and all I think he will be back to rookie form. I just think he picks positions up slow. Reports are he was never really a bright guy and I can see it.

Personally I think the guy is a guard that got caught in the hype of that blindside book. That book never comes out he is probably a top 10 if not better guard in the NFL.

Vikings

G Steve Hutchinson $7,000,000
CB Cedric Griffin $4,650,000
G Anthony Herrera $3,500,000

All 3 highly likely. Possible candidates for restructuring are Kevin Williams and Michael Jenkins.
