New York Cosmos v Quebecois Nordiques
Referee Rodolfo Gutierrez has blown his whistle and the SWDC Premier League 2012 is officially underway!
The Nordiques have lined up in a defensive 5-3-2, whilst the Cosmos are playing a 4-1-2-1-2.
Immediately from the kick off it appears both teams have the priorities set on "not losing" as opposed to going out for the win. The Nordiques in particular have set up with a 5 man defence and their manager preaching discipline.
From the kick off the pattern of the game seemed to indicate a long day for the Nordiques with the Cosmos enjoying long periods of possession. Cifaretti for the Cosmos is sitting very deep and finding himself harassed by Preda, a pattern that is being mimicked across the pitch, this Nordiques team is going to be a challenge to break down.
30 minutes in and the crowd are starting to get restless, in fact the first signs of a mexican wave are starting to show, however that would soon change as the first real chance of the game was about to unfold. The Cosmos in a sign of frustration had committed their full backs and Pan found himself dispossed by McKinna, McKinna showed excellent pace and managed to get to the byline, drawing out Lamela who tried to cut out the cross but to no avail! McKinna curls in a superb cross and it looks as though Mandic is in! Unfortunately for the Nordiques Mandic was on his heels and the superb Dougherty managed to make a good 2 or 3 yards on Mandic and dive across to head the ball out for a throw in, which ultimately resulted in nothing.
Following half-time reporters are indicating that the Nordiques B Pressley has picked up a knee injury, an injury he has had a history of as many are aware, and has been replaced by P Hasekura. He is only expected to miss the remainder of this game.
The second half kicks off more like the first, with the Cosmos pressing but the Nordiques repelling. We've hit 65 minutes and this game appears to have 0-0 written all over it.
But what's this?? A long punt by Berens from a goal kick has been misjudged by Vitarelli, and the Cosmos Joos has gambled and picked up the ball, the play is now on the edge of the box and Joos is faced up one on one with Mandruleanu, he drops his left shoulder and steps over the ball, Mandruleanu buys the dummy! Joos has half a yard, he's hit a curler destined for the top corner.... Vlaovic is scrambling, will he make it...? Yes! But he only get the slightest of fingertips to the ball, and the shot rattles in off the inside of the post, Joos looks delighted!
Immediately Rehhagel has replaced the ineffective Mandic with the pacey I Guida, will this change garner rewards? The answer appears to be no at present, but the Nordiques are having now to open up, and the game plan appears to be to utilise the excellent wing backs, both of whom are now bombing on, pushing back Belozoglu and Pan.
It's the final minute of the game now, and Pan in particular is having real problems with McKinna! McKinna is once more found by Stoica, who has pulled the strings more effectively this half now that he can attack. McKinna has nutmegged Pan, he is at the byline again and looking up for options, his eyes light up, Stoica has burst into the box and is calling for the ball, Cifaratti is struggling to keep up with him and this looks dangerous for the Cosmos! McKinna rolls it in, Stoica arrives and hits the ball with his right foot first time, he's sidefooted it towards the far post, it's got the direction..... saved! Berens has shown amazing reactions there to palm the ball wide, and Belozoglu has dutifully mopped up, hoofing the ball downfield. Referee Gutierrez blows the final whistle. A far more entertaining second half than first and the Nordiques will be heartened despite their loss.
Final Score 1-0

Charleston Battery v Bay Area Bulldogs
Both teams here look as though they are planning to attack, attack, attack with advanced 4-3-3 formations. Lets hope we see some fireworks!
Referee Pierluigi Collina has blown this whistle to start the game, the fans are at fever pitch and they are excited by what is to come.
5 minutes in and the game is looking wide open! The impish Thomasse leathers a shot from fully 35 yards, it's dipping and swerving but Hoffman gets his body behind it and clings on. From the restart he rolls the ball out to St Pierre, he carries the ball to halfway and plays the ball inside to Kaniak. He is shepherded out wide by Vick, but Vick has left his legs wide open, Kaniak nutmegs him! Kaniak from deep curls in an absolute peach of a cross! It beats Donskoy in the flight of the ball, Geller stays rooted to his line and can only watch as Roussouw climbs above Hendrickson and powers in a bullet header into the bottom corner! 1-0 Battery!
The game ebbs and flow now from end to end, the defensive midfielders from the Battery and Bulldogs, Gillitzer and Bernabe respectively, are being regularly bypassed, Gillitzer in particularly is being ran ragged by the excellent Pfeifenberger and Thomasse. Thomasse has the ball on the half way line, he beats Fortezza with a sublime drop of the shoulder and change of pace, he rolls the ball into Pfeifenberger who has Gillitzer on his back. Pfeifenberger holds Gillitzer at bay, flicks the ball up with his toes and plays it over his and Gillitzer's head with the outside of his boot, right into the path of Thomasse what a move! But what is this? Thomasse takes the ball on his thigh, lets it drop and absolutely launches a rocket off his toes. My word Hoffman could only stand and stare as the ball hits the top corner, right off the bar. Even the Battery goalkeeper is applauding that effort, 1-1!
35 minutes into the game now, it's been end to end stuff but the score remains 1-1. Edgerton has played a 1-2 with Brnovic, but his attempted cross is blocked well by Neacsu leading to a corner. It seems the Bulldogs have started to realise that Roussouw is a very good aerial threat and are trying to stop the ball at source. Stille has headed over to the right side of the pitch, looking to curl in an inswinging corner. Schut is up from the back, the ball is aimed his way but it is well cut out by Reid. My word Reid has some pace look at him go! The Battery have 2 defenders back and the Bulldogs are not really supporting Reid, he may need to wait for support... but no, Reid has incredible self belief bordering on arrogance, and thinks that he can do it alone! He runs hard and fast at Edgerton, Edgerton jockeys him and tries to push him wide, but Reid cuts inside and powers passed him, Edgerton falling to the floor in his attempts to stop Reid. Reid is now one on one with St Pierre. Reid fakes left and then right, St Pierre is bamboozled, he trips over his own feet and hits the deck, Reid has left 2 men in his wake and is one on one with Hoffman. Hoffman comes out, he makes himself big and shows Reid wide, it's a superb effort by Hoffman... but it isn't enough! Reid slams the ball through Hoffman's legs as he makes himself big to try and block the ball. 2-1 Bulldogs!
The game continues to ebb and flow, but the half time whistle is blown, what a thrilling first half!
Half Time: 2-1 Bulldogs
The second half kicks off with the Bulldogs kicking off. Bernabe plays the ball back to the centre of defence to Hendrickson, the Battery have come out looking VERY fired up and Brnovic has charged after the pass to Hendrickson, Hendrickson under pressure tries to play the ball out to Vick, but Vick has been beaten to the ball by Stille! Stille rifles a quick shot in from the edge of the box which Geller parries, and Brnovic pounces on the rebound, chipping the ball over a sprawling Geller, oh dear oh dear Bulldogs, a goal conceded of your own doing. 2-2!
The Bulldogs kick off now, and they have a long period of possession going here, the midfield of Pfeifenberger and Thomasse are incredible on the ball, they pretty much never give the ball away and are the heart and soul of this team. They contrive to get the ball out to the right hand side to Klocek. Klocek is closely marshalled by St Pierre, who has impressed in general but not this time, Klocek manages to work half a yard and crosses the ball! Purovic has managed to get himself between Kavelin and Schut... Schut backpedals to try and recover, he slips and falls into Purovic... penalty! Referee Collina goes to his pocket... but only books Schut, could that prove to be key in the game....
Purovic has stepped up to take it, Hoffman is playing mind games with him and keeps walking off his line to reset the ball, Purovic however looks confident, he runs up to take the kick.... he's lashed it straight down the middle...... Hoffman stands tall! He gets his hands behind the ball and parries it dows into the ground before gratefully pouncing on the rebound.
The Bulldogs are looking deflated now, and in the 72nd minute they appear to have a big opportunity! Edgerton hits a long ball up to the big striker Roussouw, who beats Donskoy in the air and flicks the ball on to Stille. Stille hits the ball on the volley inside to Fortezza. Fortezza slides the ball in behind the Bulldogs left back Neacsu who had been attacking previously. Brnovic drills the ball into the box, and Roussouw slides in, he's prodded the ball in at the near post and it's gone in! 3-2 Battery, they've turned it around!
Late in the game now and the Bulldogs are pressing everyone forward into the opposition half. It's the 89th minute and following an ambitious deep cross by Neacsu being cut out, the Battery have a 1 on 1 break! It's Brnovic vs Donskoy... Brnovic steps over once, twice, three times! Donskoy is unbalanced and as Brnovic flicks the ball past him, Donskoy has no option but to bring the guy down. It's a cynical foul and referee Collina has no choice but to send him off, the Bulldogs are down to 10 men... ultimately it doesn't affect this game as referee Collina blows the final whistle.
Full Time 3-2

Bay Area Bomb v Frankfurt Phoenixes
The Bay Area Bomb and the Frankfurt Phoenixes make their way out onto the pitch, referee Francois Lecombe checks each team has the correct number of players out on the pitch, and away we go.
It appears that the Bomb are set up in a fairly standard 4-5-1 formation, whereas the Phoenixes have gone for what can best be described as a fluid 4-1-3-2 with a lot of movement.
15 minutes in and these sides are keeping the game relatively even, the Phoenixes are keeping the lions share of the possession but the Bomb are organised, and are looking dangerous on the counter.
20 minutes now and the effervescent Girard, who has been effectively marshalled thus far by Ganic, has dropped deep to collect the ball in his own half. Girard, with his low centre of gravity, effective change of pace and incredible balance brushes off Kelly and Sadhwani, he's now running at Ganic who is on his heels, Ganic gets too square on with Girard and the diminuitive striker manages to glide a beautiful pass out to Verstyft with Ganic out of the game now. Verstyft runs at Witold, and beats him for pace getting to the byline. Verstyft crosses the ball in and it's somewhat floated, Mayoral has Leeds well marshalled, but behind him Abidal has not tucked in enough, and Sharova has flown in at the back post, heading the ball into the ground and into the back of the net past a despairing McManus. Despite McManus excellence there was no way he could stop Sharova from 6 yards. 1-0 Phoenixes.
35 minutes in now and the status quo has been restored, lots of possession from the Phoenixes, with Girard and Verstyft causing all sorts of problems, but Gaytero and Pulido are struggling somewhat in their defensive responsibilites on the counter, with the trio in the middle of Sadhwani, Demeyer and Kelly causing problems.
On one of these breaks, Sadhwani uses that wand over a right foot to float a delightful, backspinning pass over the head of Frankfurts Ivanisevic which Topfield has ran on to. He's cut back onto his right foot and seen the pacy Vesasco streaking in behind Freiberg, he's one on one with Piric and has managed to round the goalkeeper! He has to score... but wait, he's off celebrating his goal when Skansky races in, slides on his backside and clears the ball off the line, what a miraculous recovery, sensational stuff from the classy centre defender.
The half plays out as before and the half ends.
Half Time 1-0 Phoenixes
The second half begins with the Bomb kicking off. The ball is played out wide to Immonen, and immediately he decides to run at Von Haynau, it's an extremely competitive contest that, and whilst Immonen appears to just have the beating of Von Haynau, the defender recovers and executes a perfect sliding tackle on Immonen, but gives away a corner. Sadhwani, one of the best set piece takes in the game, steps up to take the kick. His cross is a pacy, precise cross which hits Witold in stride, he's powered in a header and it's destined for goal... denied! The woodwork shudders as the big defenders header crunches into the crossbar fully and bounces out to the edge of the box, where Pulido picks up the ball.
The Phoenixes are now taking the game on the counter to the Bomb! Pulido is an incredibly pacy and powerful kid, with some more game time and experience he is going to be something special. The Bomb cannot catch him and the only player the Bomb left behind from the corner was Miyoshi. Miyoshi has been brushed aside by the sheer physicality of Pulido.. or has he? Miyoshi last gasp manages to get a toe to the ball and at least force Pulido wide... Pulido looks up, Gaytero has come flying out from the back to try and support Pulido, all he has to do is look up and cross the ball to the centre and Gaytero is in. Pulido hits it... too far forward, McManus has anticipated that danger and come fully40 yards out of his goal to sweep the ball away. What reading of the game, that was a certain goal for the Phoenixes if they had connected there.
The clock hits 70 minutes with this competitive game at 1-0 and the Bomb decide to make a change, substituting the in and out Topsfield for Vuksic, the lively and energetic striker and changing to a 4-4-2.
This move appears to have had an instant impact on the balance of the game. The increased attacking presence shown by the Bomb is forcing Gaytero and Pulido deeper, and Gaytero's attacking game is being largely nullified, but it remains 1-0 still with time ticking on. Ganic has marshalled the brilliant Girard very well overall, but Girard has wriggled free this time and attached himself to Witold out wide. The disparity in pace is laughable and Girard glides past Witold like he isn't even there, Witold just doesn't seem to have the pace to play full back. Girard now cuts inside, Verstyft is haring in from the opposite wing, he's all alone! Girard plays an inch perfect pass to him and has left Verstyft one on one with McManus, he fakes a chip but McManus doesn't buy that, he has been forced wide by McManus and the angle has got too tight. He looks up, Gaytero has bombed forward from centre midfield, getting away from Sadhwani, Verstyft rolls it to him, Gaytero pulls back, sets himself... denied! Ganic makes up for losing Girard earlier in the move by diving, chest first, in the path of the shot keeping it 1-0.
Ganic's incredible last gasp effort has galvanised the Bomb and they look motivated now. A long, raking pass by Kelly finds the substitute Vuksic running in the space where Pulido should have been occupying, but in a rare lapse he let his man run. Vuksic rolls the ball in to the feet of Vesasco. Vesasco lays the ball off to the on rushing Demeyer who is ready to shoot. Ooof! Demeyer is crunched by a late tackle by Pulido, who tried to atone for his initial error but Demeyer's quick feet left him for dead. It's 80 minutes in and the Bomb have a free kick on the edge of the box. Sadhwani lines it up and looks on as the Phoenixes set up a 5 man wall. He sets the ball, steps back and hits the free kick. He's bent it around the right hand edge of the wall, but it appears to be heading wide... wait it's curling back in, it cant go in can it? Yes it can! The Bomb's fans are delirious at that effort that went in off the inside of the post with Piric looking on, 1-1
Following that sequence of play Frankfurt substitude Pulido for Huhtala, the young man had a fine afternoon but one lapse at this level can be the difference between winning and losing and I am sure he has learnt a lot from tonight.
We're in the second minute of injury time now and Frankfurt are mounting one last attack. Girard tries to run at Ganic again, Ganic has reinforcements in Kelly this time and they manage to make the young man turn away from goal. Girard though finds Gaytero once again a willing runner from deep. He displays excellent quick feet and gliding past Demeyer and Sadhwani. He looks up, he's seen McManus off his line and gone for an incredible chip. It's dipping, it's looking close... just over! It looks like McManus may have made it back but it was some effort.
The referee blows for full time in a pulsating game.

Green Bay United v Kremlin City
Green Bay United and Kremlin City face off in our final encounter from the opening weekend, Green Bay come out in a 5-4-1 formation, the Kremlin set up wth a 4-3-3 formation.
Referee Junior Senior checks both goalkeepers are ready, and away we go! The Cheeseheads in the crowd as they are affectionately known get excited when the ball is spread out to the left to young Frenchman Cassy, the young man throws 5 step overs all chained together as he runs down the wing, but he forgets he is against the imperious Ciavarello, the Italian watches the balls and steals it away without any drama. You feel the left hand side may not be profitable for Green Bay today, but that same side might be for Kremlin. Ciavarello has carried the ball with venom into the Green Bay half. Fontan Aubert has cut inside occupying Sullcata, and Ciavarello has a clear run at Lawson. He beats him with pace and the full back is at the byline, he looks up, picks out Lever bursting to the near post. Ciavarello picks out Lever, but he is superbly marshalled by Pasic and forced to retreat.
The ball is worked out to Ciavarello again, Ciavarello first time hits a deep deep cross to the far side, Bjorn steams in, he beats Dale to the ball, oh my word he's volleyed it first time! Janssen shows superb athleticism to get over and parry the ball, but Fontan Aubert reacts the quickest and prods in under duress from both Canon and Sullcata. 1-0 Kremlin! The goal is scored at only 1 minute 45 seconds.
Green Bay kick off now, they are struggling to get anything going offensively, but have now pushed Cassy further forward in the hopes of occupying Ciavarello's runs, and when possible are working away from that side.
30 minutes in now and Kremlin have committed too many numbers forward, Green Bay have a chance to counter. The classy Canon disposseses Fontan Aubert and rolls the ball to the powerful Jenkot. Jenkot carries the ball and brushes past Carr and Harte, that was men vs boys there, these young central midfielders for the Kremlin clearly have talent, but will require patience and seasoning. Jenkot plays it wide to Dale, who then clips and intelligent ball over the full back for Feghouli to chase. Gosh Feghouli is quick, McCulloch is no mug and manages to put Feghouli under pressure, but Feghouli reaches the ball first, and fires in a cross into the box. His delivery though isn't the best and is cut out by Puhovski. Puhovski clears... no! Boggs has managed to get a piece of the clearance and it has fallen menacingly to Riordan. This midfielder has never needed a second invitation to shoot, and does so with Combe out of position in the goal! The ball is heading towards the bottom corner but Combe appears to have recovered... oh no! Unaware of Combe's recovery Andrieu has slid in to try and block the shot, but it has just deflected the ball and wrong footed Comde, the balls rolls into the net as Combe can only looking on despairingly. I'm sure Riordan will claim it, but without Andrieu's intervention that shot did not look like a goal. 1-1!
Kremlin continue to attack, but more often that not Green Bay are getting numbers behind the ball, frustrating the Kremlin, and the half draws to a close.
Half Time 1-1
The second half begins and the Kremlin are committing more and more numbers here. Ciavarello has once again got away from Cassy and has a run at Lawson. Lawson shows him inside this time as he doesn't want to be beaten by Ciavarello down the line again.... bad move. Ciavarello has incredible vision and has split the defence, with Fontan Aubert being marked by Sullcata and Canon and Pasic both marking Lever, Bjorn has burst past the full back Dale and in behind the defence. Bjorn is at a tight angle but he's taken the shot on anyway! He'll shoot from anywhere this boy. Bjorn's shot has real venom in it, it's hit the post, then Janssen, and then back out into the middle! Lever, Canon and Pasic all scramble for it, and in the ensuing melee Lever has gone down in a heap! He does not look happy and is berating Pasic. Replays appear to show that the striker was pulled back by Canon but the officials missed it, a huge talking point there!
A substitution is being called here, with the impressive Fontan Aubert just slowing down somewhat the exciting and temperamental striker Bury is coming on. Straight away Karabinas tries to find Bury with a long ball over the left back Lawson who is having a torrid time. Lawson is scrambling, but there is no need as Bury inexplicably has given up running after it, and is now yelling at Karabinas he wanted the ball to feet. A remarkable sequence as the young mans pass looked superb.
Green Bay have hung on for 70 minutes now on the basis of a strong centre midfield, and once again the powerful Jenkot has disrupted an attack. Harte and Carr have big futures but they are struggling with Jenkot's physicality, they appear to need to hit the gym!
Harte looks disconsolate as he is replaced by Mohovak, but the young man shouldn't be too dissatisfied, he will bounce back.
Boggs is rousing the troops, and looks to try and win this game for his team single handedly! He's took up a very intelligent position in the space between the DM Karabinas and the 2 DC's. He lets the ball run past his body and space has opened up for him. Andrieu comes to close down Boggs, but he instead uses the on rushing defender as a guide and tries to curl the ball around him. The shot is spinning and curling ever closer to the goal and Combe is scrambling, they haven't nicked the lead have they? No! Combe makes it over and fingertips the ball wide for a corner. Pure inspiration from Boggs though, so close!
Carr heads over and takes a short corner with Mohovak. Mohovak has a good angle now to aim in the cross and dips in a great cross, that man Boggs has got free of Puhovski, the problem the Kremlin have is a lack of height at set pieces, and that is being exploited here. Boggs rises and flicks a header towards the far post... cleared off the line! Ciavarello remained disciplined and hooked the ball clear!
With 80 minutes on the clock both sides make changes. Kremlin bring on Batelka for Lever, and Green Bay bring on Gil Valle for Lawson, who has had a poor day today, but will face much worse opponents in the future.
Batelka is looking lively, but Bury is simply not trying out there right now, he looks unhappy at having been a substitute in this game and is certainly not helping his side. Gil Valle, the recent substitute for Green Bay, rakes his studs down Bury's calf away from the officials, and Bury reacts by pushing Gil Valle in the chest with his own chest. Gil Valle smiles as play is brought to a halt. Bury is shown a yellow card and Gil Valle smirks as his antics have clearly antagonised Bury.
With 3 substitutes used Kremlin all urge Bury to calm down, and he ends the game on the pitch. The game finishes 1-1, but there is lots to discuss here you feel.

Bay Area Bulldogs V New York Cosmos
The Bulldogs, coming off their close loss to the Battery only have one change to the lineup, with Cristescu coming in for the suspended Donskoy. The Cosmos arrive in the Bay Area with an unchanged lineup and look ready to go. Referee Percival Cox checks both sides are ready and away we go!
It appears that last weeks loss has had little impact on the confidence of the Bulldogs as immediately from the kickoff they are on the attack. Purovic rolled the ball back to Pfeifenberger, who looks up before intelligently spreading the ball out wide to left winger Reid. The Cosmos Pan appeared to have him well marshalled, but Reid bursts forward and managed to get a yard to cross the ball. Rather than crossing with his left foot he's wrapped his right leg behind his left and clipped in a beautiful dipping cross. It's dropping invitingly for Purovic to attack! Dougherty is in too close attention though and gets his body between Purovic and the ball which drifts out of play, excellent defending by Dougherty. It's only been a couple of games but the Cosmos fans are loving their defensive lynchpin.
15 minutes in and the Cosmos are struggling to contain the Bulldogs who are attacking in numbers! Bernabe dispossessed McCann with a superb sliding tackle and has passed the ball backwards to Neacsu. Neacsu raids forward to the halfway line but is held up by Savage, he's forced inside but he finds the excellent Pfeifenberger. He's noticed Thomasse breaking forward running off the Cosmos Cifaratti, he beats Cifaratti to the ball and is on the edge of the box now. Dougherty steps out to try and stop the immediate danger, but Thomasse dinks a cute chip over the defenders despairing lunge towards the onrushing Purovic. Purovic shoots first time on the half volley! Superb block by Lamela off his knee sending the ball wide as Berens looked beaten. But wait the dangers not over, Klocek has anticipated the danger and powered onto the ball ahead of Belozoglu, Berens comes and closes the angle but Klocek has the presence of mind to pull the back to the edge of the box. Pfeifenberger is sprinting to the edge of the box with a gaping open goal to aim at..... GOAL! He places the ball into the bottom corner, 1-0 Bulldogs!
The Cosmos kick off now but are unable to break down the Bulldogs. It has to be said that the Bulldogs defence appears to be having some difficulties in keeping their shape and marking their opposite numbers but their stellar midfield is keeping the Cosmos at bay right now.
35 minutes in now and Hendrickson picks up on a rare loose pass from Cifaratti which was intended for Dagahoy. Hendrickson finds Vick on the wing who has progressed quite far forward. Vick looks full of running as he gets his head down. Thomasse is gesturing for the ball in the middle but Vick has continued down the wing... oh dear. Vick could not beat Belozoglu and has lost the ball just inside the opposition half this could be dangerous. Belozoglu looks up and he's seen Somervuori take up and intelligent position where Bernabe should have been. Somervuori picks up the ball and runs and Cristescu now. Cristescu does well and slows him down, but the run of Vick has left him out of position and Somervuori rolls the ball to McCann. McCann hits the byline and chips the ball to the far post, it looks to be overhit.... Geller has tried to punch it clear but got underneath it and just palmed the ball to the back post. Joos can't miss this and hits a thunderous volley into the net from 6 yards. 1-1!
The half time whistle goes and this intriguing matchup could go either way!
Half Time 1-1
The Cosmos kick off the second half and the managements instructions appear crystal clear, possession possession possession and not committing too many numbers forward to the attack. The defenders and Cifaratti are frustrating the attacking players of the Bulldogs and they are finding it difficult to play at their fluent best. The Cosmos have now passed the ball through the entire team and have really drawn the Bulldogs forward, this is superb stuff. Savage works the ball back to Lamela, and then immediately spins off and has got in behind Neacsu... Lamela spots the run and guides a long diagonal pass into the space vacated by Neacsu. Geller has come out to try and sweep up the danger but Savage is deceptively quick. He beats Geller to the ball, and manages to round him on the edge of the box, he's clean through! He makes no mistake and puts the ball into the empty not, emphatic stuff from the Cosmos who really exposed the Bulldogs defensive frailties. 2-1!
The Bulldogs are threatening again immediately from the kickoff but as the ball is worked wide to Klocek he is dispossessed by Belozoglu, who is really shining this game. The Bulldogs therefore try a different tact, with Reid dropping deep now to try and get more of the ball. He picks it up and runs direct at the heart of the defence, he may have a selfish streak this boy, but when he gets the ball and runs with it he is very difficult to stop. He beats Cifaratti with relative ease and is now running at Lamela with Dougherty tied up by Purovic. Reid looks up and crashes in a shot, it's an absolute piledriver and looks to be heading in.... what a save by Berens. His reputation as one of the games best shotstoppers is definitely warranted when you saves like that! Wow!
The Bulldogs confidence appears to be ebbing away now, half the ground thought that was in and it appears the players did too. From the goal kick Berens hits the ball towards Somervuori. He tussles with Bernabe and neither of them connect with the ball, it's looped on and the bounce has taken Cristescu out of the game! Dagohoy has gambled and is through one on one with Geller! He hits it early as Geller was advancing and has put it through his leg. A composed finish and on 65 minutes it is now 3-1 Cosmos.
Having taken a 2 goal lead, the Cosmos have decided to introduce O Robb to replace Somervuori and B Sensenig for Dagohoy. Both of whom receive a standing ovation when substituted.
The Cosmos are now very defensively set up, and whilst Sensenig is looking eager and winning the ball in the air, he just isn't the same presence that Dagohoy is and the Bulldogs are now taking a lions share of the possession, however they are still being repelled.
With 85 minutes on the clock, the ball is worked out wide to Reid again, Pan of the Cosmos is a fine defender but Reid it has to be said is really giving him a tough time today. Reid looks to the middle towards Thomasse, but then puts the ball through Pan's legs and continues on down the wing, how cheeky was that?! Reid breaks into the box and looks ready to shoot! Dougherty flies across and slides in attempting to block the shot but Reid was dummying! Dougherty's commitment costs him here as he has slid past the play! Berens bears down on Reid but he calmly sidefoots the ball into the corner! 3-2!
The Cosmos kick off but find themselves under the cosh soon after... it's the last minute and the Bulldogs have earnt themselves a corner.... Pfeifenberger drifts it in and Hendrickson has attacked the ball at real pace. Sensenig was marking him but has been left in his wake. Hendrickson connects with the ball... over! He just couldn't keep it down. The final whistle blows and once again for the Bulldogs it is a heartening but unfortunate defeat.

Frankfurt Phoenixes V Quebecois Nordiques
Both managers are looking to bounce back from what they perceived to be a disappointing opening fixture. The Nordiques have decided to stick with their defensive 5-2-1-2 formation whilst the Phoenixes have changes to a 4-1-4-1 formation this time around. The Phoenixes have also replace Sharova with Leeds, appearing to favour pace over an aerial presence in this fixture.
Referee Joseph Bing takes a look at his watch, checks his officials are in position and away we go! The Phoenixes kick off and immediately Girard is off and running at the back four with Leeds darting in behind. Girard is pressured by both Pressley and Vitarelli but managed to squeeze the ball through for Leeds, but Mandruleanu was sweeping well behind and manages to dispossess the onrushing Leeds.
Whilst that attack did not result in a goal it has set the tempo for this game, the Phoenixes are dominating pessession and the Nordiques are camped out in their own half here, manfully defending as best they can. Shots from Gaytero, Verstuyft and Leeds are all either blocked by the defenders or saved by the athletic Vlaovic.
In a rare foray into their oppositions half, Preda has managed to find a way past Bellamy and Pulido and is looking for an opening. Skansky and Freiberg have the strikers marked, and due to a lack of width the full backs have managed to tuck in and confine the space. Preda has shot from distance, it looks a hopeful punt from the outset but it's bounced just in front of Piric and he has spilt it. Babovic has hared after the spill and looks certain to score... denied! Ivanisevic has shown superb pace to get across to the ball and take it off the toes of the striker who was bearing down on goal.
Time is running down now on the half and the Firebirds are mounting one last attack. Bellamy from deep has spread the ball wide to Gaytero, Gaytero has very tricky feet and is looking for a yard to cross the ball, he whips in a cross but McKinna repels the cross, conceding a corner. The Firebirds Verstuyft whips in a venomous cross at some pace, Mandruleanu gets in the way of it and manages to clear to the edge of the area, but Girard was waiting for any clearances and has a couple of yards of space. He looks up, looks as if he is going to shoot causing the defenders to onrush, but instead he hits and impish chip over the top, Pressley was slow to clear his lines and he has played the pacey Leeds onside. Leeds shoots first time and whilst Vlaovic got an arm on the ball, he wasn't strong enough to get the ball into the net. 1-0 Phoenixes!
The whistle immediately blows.
Half time 1-0
The second half kicks off as the first half ended, with the Phoenixes attacking in numbers and really dominating the game. The Nordiques are hanging in there but by a thread you have to say. The excellent Mandruleanu has blocked multiple shots now and is really covering Pressley and Savic who are struggling out there.
Grosha for the Nordiques manages to dispossess Pulido and fires in a quick pass to Stoica. Stoica tries to get the attack going quickly and hits the ball into Mandic's feet. Mandic's hold up play is excellent and he hits the ball out to the overlapping Meldgaard on the wing. Meldgaard runs down the wing and manages to beat Von Haynau who was inside keeping tabs on Babovic. Meldgaard looks up and sees Babovic running in goal, his pace getting him half a yard ahead of Freiburg. The ball is fired in low and Babovic, predator that he is, has slid in and got a toe to the ball ahead of the goalkeeper... goal! As scruffy a goal as you will see but the Nordiques won't care, they've snatched a goal in a game where they didn't look like scoring!
The Phoenixes have reacted with 2 substitutions, replaced Gaytero with Faber and Leeds with Sharova. Faber looks a real livewire out there and you can see why the scouts were buzzing about his potential prior to the draft, he's instantly involved, playing a 1-2 with Girard who hits a shot from distance just over the bar!
75 minutes now, an Bellamy dispossesses Grosha. He lays the ball to Pulido, the powerhouse midfielder who still looks full of running. He bursts past Stoica and the defenders back off, wary of their opposite numbers. He's now 30 yards out and looks up. Pulido sees no options and decides to put his foot through the ball, that's got a chance, it's moving in the air and has real venom on the shot! Vlaovic dives athletically and manages to tip the ball onto the bar, it's come back out and Sharova has got above Pressley and Vitarelli! He heads the ball back towards goal, and whilst Mandruleanu tries to hack it away he just forces the ball into his own net. There was nothing he could do and the inevitable has happened. 2-1!
The Phoenixes now look contented and are keeping possession very well, with the Nordiques still employing a 5 man defensive philosophy they wind down the clock and see the game out with relative ease.

Cremlin City V Charleston Battery
Both Cremlin City and the Charleston Battery have named unchanged line ups for the forthcoming fixture. The Cremlin City management have spent the time leading up to this match telling their team they are the underdogs and they have nothing to worry about, will the Battery live up to the favourites tag the Cremlin are throwing about?
Referee Sheldon Wolowitz blows the whistle and the game kicks off. The opening few minutes see the ball played from end to end with no real chances being borne out.
15 minutes in and it is clear to see the Battery's game plan is to try to occupy Ciavarello by playing Stille high up, and then switching the ball out to the right wing. Gillitzer sprays the ball out to Brnovic and he looks to cut inside the full back. His pace and low centre of gravity allow him to shrug off the challenge of Karabinas and he now runs at Andrieu. Andrieu dives in and needlessly gives away a free kick, the fast feet proving just too much for the Frenchman. Stille lines up the free kick and hits and inswinger from the right hand side with his left foot. Stille's cross is a floated one, and Roussouw has risen majestically above both Puhovski and McCulloch. He heads the ball goalward and it looks to be heading in, but Combe reacts quickly and claws the ball away!
30 minutes in now and Ciavarello has managed to get past Stille and break into the opposition half, he stops and sees Lever pointing into the box and sprinting past Kavelin! Ciavarello crosses from deep and the ball is arrowing in towards Lever who is clean through! Unfortunately Hoffman was alive to the danger and manages to take the ball off the head of Lever to keep the score at 0-0.
Hoffman sees Ciavarello caught out of position and kicks the ball out to the left wing. Stille takes it down on his chest, but under pressure from the retreating Ciavarello has to check his run. St Pierre however has overlapped and his run hasn't been tracked at all by Fontan Aubert! St Pierre has acres of space to gallop into and Andrieu has to head out from the centre of defence to cut hi off. St Pierre intelligently cuts inside and passes the ball to Fortezza. Fortezza is all alone on the edge of the box and hits the ball first time! Combe gets across and manages to parry the ball but its dropped on the 6 yard box. Roussouw looks to seize on the opportunity but is slow off the mark and is beaten to the ball by McCulloch. The half time whistle blows.
Half Time 0-0
The second half kicks off and the home team have made 2 changes, Mohovak replaces Harte and swaps with Carr, and Bury replaces Fontan Aubert.
The game kicks off and Bury looks much more motivated this game, perhaps the kind approach taken on by the management at the Cremlin has helped his mindset. Mohovak has dispossed Gillitzer in midfield and lays the ball off to Karabinas. Karabinas looks up and displays that excellent range of passing of his, clipping the ball over St Pierre for Bury to run onto. Whilst St Pierre meets the ball before Bury and clears Bury showed real desire to get that pass and praised Karabinas for this effort.
Bury has picked up the ball again and this time switches the ball over to the left wing to Bjorn. Bjorn might be one of the quickest players in the entire league, and whilst Edgerton is no slouch all he can do is concede a corner with a last ditch sliding tackle. Karabinas goes over to take and hits an inswinging cross to the edge of the 6 yard box, but Hoffman gets through the crowd and punches clear.
Gillitzer picks up on the loose ball and the Battery are looking to break! Gillitzer runs at Mohovak and he is cynically fouled. Mohovak has been booked for the tackle, and not only that he appears to have Gillitzer. Gillitzer hobbles off and is replaced by Mezzi, who will directly replace him as a DMC.
Stille hits the ball into the box from the free kick and the ball is won in the air by Roussouw, his flick on is right into the danger zone and Brnovic is a whisker away from connecting!
It looks as though Lever and Kavelin are having a set to over the incident leading to Gillitzers injury, and Lever has grabbed Kavelin by the shirt! The referee deals with the incident sensibly ticking off both men, and the Cremlin management decide enough is enough, substituting Lever for Batelka.
The game carries on but the substitutions and injury have made the game somewhat disjointed. The referee blows the whistle on a disappointing second half and as the game ends both managers are seeing arguing with one another! It seems these 2 teams may not be too happy with one another, could we see a rivalry developing?

Green Bay United v Bay Area Bomb
The final game of this round of fixtures sees the Bay Area Bomb visit Green Bay United. Both of these sides have title ambitions and will be looking to build on promising starts. The Bomb have lined up with a very untraditional formation and observers are keen to observe how the line up will fair against the settle Green Bay side, who only name one change, with Gil Valle coming in for Lawson at left back.
Herschel Krustofsky gets the game underway and immediately Green Bay are on the attack! Feghouli and Cassy are lining up very wide trying to stretch the 3 man defence of the Bomb as their manager instructed, Boggs is being marshalled by Ganic and therefore Riordan has room to manoeuvre, he's confronted by Ireland and Immonen, who both typically prefer to attack rather than defend and he is able to get past them both as they put in rather weak tackles. As previously seen Riordan does not need a second opportunity to shoot, he does so with gusto but the ball sails wide, however Green Bay will be heartened and the oppositions lack of strength in the middle of the park.
Whilst the Bomb may not have too much defense about their philosophy in this match, the midfield are bombing on with reckless abandon and are crashing forward. With Cassy and Feghouli playing so wide for Green Bay and Riordan playing in an advanced role, Jenkot is being swamped by Immonen, Kelly and especially Ireland who really is breaking hard. Ireland runs at Jenkot, and whilst Jenkot dispossesses him Immonen is able to retrieve the ball. He's now running at Sullcata, but the rugged centre defender executes a perfect block tackle on Immonen.
30 minutes in and whilst the action has been very back and forth, no real chances have been made, but Green Bay appear to have a promising attack developing here. Feghouli's excelling positioning and pace are giving Miyoshi problems, he manages to quell the threat and force Feghouli back, but Feghouli has switched the ball to Cassy on the opposite wing. He's got a run on Kwatryka and has managed to hit the touchline, he crosses but Ganic manages to get in the way, although he concedes a corner.
From the ensuing corner, Cassy takes it short to Riordan, Riordan then rolls the back to Gil Valle, he's in space and picks out a superb cross, right into "the corridor of uncertainty" along the 6 yard box, Riordan has gambled and got ahead of the defensive midfielders for the Bomb and powers the ball past a helpless McManus, 1-0!
It's just before half time now and the Bomb have the ball. Kelly looks up and has seen Vuksic drop deep, he drills a low flat pass into the feet of Vuksic. Vuksic has Canon on his back, but his first touch tips the ball round the corner and Canon had got too tight, Vuksic is past! With Sullcata marking Vesasco, Pasic the sweeper has to step out and confront Vuksic. Vuksic hits a curling shot but Pasic bravely charges it own. Demeyer collects the loose ball and has spotted Sadhwani out wide on the left wing, he's swapped sides! Sadhwani is in acres of space and this prolonged attack has caused Green Bay's usual strong defensive posture to become unorganised. Dale is unsure whether to go out to Sadhwani or not, and that small delay in closing him down allows this dead ball specialist to dig out a fantastic curling cross! Vesasco darts across Janssen who anticipated the cross and was flat footed, and his first time finish finds the bottom corner! 1-1!
Half Time 1-1
The second half commences and news is reaching is that Ireland of the Bomb has sustained a twisted ankle in the first half and will not be able to continue. He is also likely to be out for 2 weeks. Topsfield come on to replace him.
The Bay Area Bomb are looking to play a possession game it appears, Kelly is excellent on the ball and really uses it efficiently. He hits a pass out to Demeyer who has found a pocket of space. He is very intelligent with his movement and often manages to find a yard or two. He looks up and Vesasco has made another darting run, this time however Pasic reads the danger and cuts out the pass.
The game has hit 65 minutes now, and little has really happened this half, after a rather open first half the teams appear to have the measure of one another now, so the home team make a substitution, R Kelly comes on for Jenkot.
80 minutes in and the attacking verve of the Bay Area Bomb is really coming through. Immonen is reverting to type and making a lot of runs from deep, here he runs at Kelly and is foule hard by R Kelly, that has earnt him a yellow card. Kelly is incensed, he clearly feels that Immonen dived and is telling the Bomb player just that as well. Immonen tries to walk away and Kelly pushes him in the back. Bad decision! The referee rushes over and sends him off, he'd only been on for 15 minutes!
The Bomb sense victory now and are pushing numbers forward, first Demeyer and then Vuksic take shots are range, but both are repelled by Janssen. Janssen's goal throw out to Feghouli s intercepted by an alert Miyoshi who tries to play in Vesasco immediately. Vesasco runs in and has been played onside by Dale, Vesasco takes on touch and then rifles in a half volley, goallllll! 2-1!
Wait wait though, what's this? The official on the far side has indicated he flagged for offside! Replays indicate Vesasco timed his run to perfection and that is a hugely contentious decision, Vesasco, Immonen and Miyoshi are all in the officials face protesting. Meanwhile the referee has blown his whistle and Green Bay have taken the free kick quickly. Riordan looked up and saw Feghouli in the space where Miyoshi should have been but his protestations had taken him up the field. Riordan hits Feghouli and he runs at Ganic. Ganic has to commit but Feghouli manages to roll in Boggs and he is one on one with McManus. He shoots and McManus makes the save, but he cant hold on and is sprawling on the floor, he crawls after it but Boggs beats him to the ball, Boggs swivels and shoots..... goal! Green Bay have taken advantage now lead 2-1!
With no time on the clock, the referee blows the final whistle, he's being surrounded by the Bomb players who are rightly furious!

New York Cosmos V Frankfurt Phoenixes
First clash with third in the recently renovated New York Cosmos' Stadium, with 50000 now packed into this arena the Phoenixes are sure to face a hostile reception, can their technically proficient team overcome the physicality of the Cosmos, who so far have won both of their games.
Referee Pierluigi Collina is in charge of this titanic tussle and gets us underway. Girard taps the ball to Leeds and away we go! Straight away Leeds plays the ball out wide to the full back Ivanisevic, and he pushes on with a run at McCann, McCann fails to dispossess Ivanisevic and Belozoglu is now immediately faced with a 2 on 1 situation. Ivanisevic draws in Belozoglu and then skillfully flicks the ball out wide to Gaytero. Gaytero is dribbling towards the centre defence now at pace and Freiberg is out to confront him. Gaytero is pulling out all the tricks, one stepover, two, three now and Lamela is backpedalling furiously, he dives in now and Gaytero skips past him, he's been forced wide and Berens is covering his near post but Gaytero has time to look up and pick a pass! Dougherty is man marking Leeds tightly but Girard has peeled back and found a ton of space, he's wide open and Gaytero finds him, Girard has to score... 1-0! Not the start that the Cosmos wanted here!
The Cosmos kick off now and they try to calm things down a bit. The management of the Cosmos are preaching possession football, and with talented footballers throughout the side they are managing to do so effectively.
20 minutes in and the Cosmos centre defender Lamela has fended off Leeds and looks up, he's seen Joos drop slightly deeper on the right hand side, and drills the ball into Joos feet. Joos has turned now and has got a run on Von Haynau. Joos upper body strength means he is able to keep Von Haynau at bay and has allowed him to hit the byline.... Joos crosses the ball in low and flat across the 6 yard box, Piric is rooted to his line and Dagohoy tussles with Skansky for the ball, if he gets there he must score... no! Skansky gets in front and allows the ball to cross without intervening, Ivanisevic clears the ball but only as far as Cifaratti. Cifaratti sidefoot volleys the ball into Savage. He's looked up and, seeing Piric is off his line he's decided to have a shot! Savage hits a dipping shot and it's got a chance! Piric is backpeddling, he dives full stretch and fingertips the ball onto the bar and it's cannoned back out, Piric is on his back on the line and Dagohoy reacts quickest to toe poke the ball into the net, 1-1!
35 minutes in and this game has turned into a battle, no team is really managing to get a toe hold in the game, Girard though appears to have taken it upon himself to get the lead back for the Phoenixes. He's picked up the ball in the centre circle, played a neat 1-2 with Verstyft, then releases Verstyft again down the left to continue the move. Verstyft runs at Pan and then checks, Pan continued to backpedal and Verstyft has found himself 2 yards of space. He drills in a low cross which is put behind by Dougherty, who once again used his superior positioning to get ahead of Leeds and put it out for a corner.
Verstyft curls in a hugely inviting cross and Freiberg has got a run on his marker and heads the ball. He powers it back in the direction it came and it's a goal! Off the post and then off Pan, who was on the post trying to prevent the first header from going in, 2-1!
The rest of the half fizzles out.
Half Time 2-1 Phoenixes
The second half commences and Sharova has replaced Leeds who the Cosmos appeared to have somewhat wrapped up.
The Cosmos have started this half very much on the front foot and appear to have adopted somewhat of a "shoot on sight" policy, especially after seeing Savage's first half effort leave Piric scrambling. McCann hit a screamer from out left which Piric spilled but recovered to gather up, and then Joos belts a screamer just wide, but so far nothing much has really tested the Phoenixes.
That might change here though, 60 minutes in and Pulido showed his inexperience there and dwelt on the ball too long, and the nippy Somervuori has mugged Pulido and stolen the ball, 30 yards out and he's got a couple of yards now, he's clipped a curling cross across the goalkeeper, it's dipping and bending and Piric is scrambling furiously to try and get there but he just can't, Somervuori has got the Cosmos level with a sensational curling shot. 2-2!
65 minutes in and that man Girard has picked up a knock down from Sharova who is provinding much better hold up play for the Phoenixes. Girard is running with pace at Dougherty now, and the difference in pace is obviously, Girard has managed to wriggle past and Dougherty has no choice but to tackle him to the ground, yellow card for Dougherty. Girard took the subsequent free kick but hit the ball narrowly wide with Berens beaten.
70 minutes now and Sallay comes on for Pulido, with Faber replacing Verstyft, looks like Frankfurt still think they can win this game, and maybe they can here with Faber making an instant impact. Faber has Belozoglu in front of him and has nutmegged him, but Belozoglu showed superb pack to recover and tackle Faber.
The minutes tick by and both teams are not settling for a draw, Cifaratti hits a long hopeful ball over the top for Dagohoy chase, Skansky beat him to it but conceded a corner for his troubles. Somervuori goes over to take it, and his quick thinking has allowed him to spot Joos hovering on the edge of the box menacingly, he chips the ball to him and Joos lines up a shot, he strikes it with venomous power and it's heading to the bottom corner. Piric is scrambling over but it looks like he won't make it, Skansky has got his leg in the way and deflected the ball and Piric is totally wrong footed, it's not got the legs but Dagohoy and Freiberg are both challenging for the ball.... Dagohoy makes it first and clips the ball to goal, but Frieberg was close enough and the ball hits him in the face, stopping dead and Piric manages to clamber over to gather up. Freiberg has had to go off with what appears to be a broken nose, but the final whilst blows and the game ends a stalemate.

Bay Area Bulldogs v Cremlin City
Our referee in charge of this contest looks around the 50000 capacity arena, confirms everything is ready and away we go! It looks as though the Cremlin side have stuck to their tried and tested formation, whereas the Bulldogs have dropped a midfielder a little deeper to try and stop some of their defensive woes they have suffered so far.
15 minutes in and this game is looking a lot more end to end, but the Bulldogs are keeping the game close so far. The midfield of Bernabe, Pfeifenberger and Thomasse are playing their counterparts off the park, although the usually dominant wingers of the Bulldogs are really being suppressed by the talented full back Ciavarello, and the combination of Bjorn and McCulloch double teaming Klocek. Nevertheless, the ball is worked from Bernabe forward to Thomasse, this little whipped is superb on the ball and he's managed to work the ball past Karabinas and is running at Andrieu. Andrieu pushes him wide but Thomasse looks up and sees Purovic one on one with Puhovski. Puhovski is not known to be dominant in the air and Thomasse floats one up for Purovic to attack. Purovic beats Puhovski to the ball and powers a header at goal.. Combe gets to the ball but couldn't hang on Purovic scrambles forwards and chips the ball over the despairing Combe, 1-0 Bulldogs!
Straight from the kick off Lever plays a 1-2 with Fontan Aubert and has found himself in behind the talented midfield of the Bulldogs. He looks up and sees Rolf "Harris" Bjorn running in behind Vick who appeared to have just fallen asleep, Bjorn screws in a cross from the byline and finds Lever, the ball is behind him, but he's somehow managed to get his head on it, and despite diving away from the goal to head it he's managed to steer it to the corner and Geller couldn't get near it. 1-1!
From the kickoff the Bulldogs are immediately on the rampage through the exposed middle of the Cremlin. Our tactical analyst Woy Hodgson has pointed out that Cremlin's decision to hedge Carr wider to combat Reid has left Thomasse and Pfeifenberger far too much room in the middle. Thomasse backheels the ball to Pfeifenberger, and he once again picks the perfect pass to the feet of Purovic, who has his back to goal on the edge of box with Andrieu in close company. Thomasse has burst forward and Puhovski is too late to read the danger. Thomasse shoots past Puhovski and into the top corner, 2-1! This game could finish any score!
The Cremlin restart the game Karabinas switches it out to Ciavarello. Ciavarello plays a swift one two with Fontan Aubert and has found himself in space on the right. He crosses the ball from deep early and Lever has got the run on the defence, he's sidefooted the ball into the net, and it's 2-2 here after only 25 minutes! The Bulldogs fans can be seen visibly slumping into their seats, they've seen this defending over and over and you have to wonder if they continue to ignore their weak defence.
The game continues end to end but no goals have been scored for 15 minutes now and the players look to have settled. The ball has been worked out to the right wing though here by the Bulldogs and Klocek has managed to get one on one with McCulloch, he faints outside then cuts inside and McCulloch brings him down 30 yards out. Pfeifenberger is standing over the ball, the Cremlin are still organising their wall when Pfeifenberger, with permission from the ref, takes a quick free kick and Purovic has been slipped in all alone. He's one on one with the goalkeeper and tries to chip him, Combe saves it but Purovic manages to scramble in the rebound, 3-2!
The game continues at it's frantic pace but no more goals are scored.
Half Time 3-2
The second half kicks off and the Cremlin look to attack in numbers, Harte plays the ball out to Ciavarello, Ciavarello looks up and switches the ball the width of the pitch to Bjorn out wide, Bjorn sidefoots the ball first time to Lever in the box, Lever flicks the ball back with his instep to the advancing Carr, Carr drives onto the ball and hits a screamer. That is simply unstoppable and no keeper in the world would have stopped that, instant reply from the Cremlin. 3-3!
The Cremlin now are really pushing on Ciavarello sensing a 4th goal could be imminent. Fontan Aubert has pushed inside and they have committed a number of players forward. Fontan Aubert has the ball 30 yards out and hits a shot but Neacsu blocks it. Neacsu has space to run into now with Fontan Aubert and Ciavarello committed to the attack. Neacsu has made it into the opposition half and Puhovski has had to come out to close him down. Neacsu rolls the ball inside to Pfeifenberger, and he's spotted Purovic running in behind Andrieu! He curls the ball with the outside of his foot perfectly into his path and Purovic shoots first time... saved! Combe with an outstanding save there to keep his side in the game.
70 minutes in now and this game is on a knife edge, both sides are coming very close to scoring and you can't see this game ending as it currently stands. Perhaps this is the moment, Thomasse tries to hit Reid out wide but Ciavarello has intercepted and is driving right at the heart of the Bulldogs, he's beat Pfeifenberger and Bernabe and is now running at Hendrickson. Ciavarello passes the ball through Hendrickson's legs and Lever is one on one with Geller. Geller onrushes and Lever takes the ball round him, this must be 4-3.... it isn't! Can you believe that? Lever slipped at the vital moment and the ball trickled out for a goal kick, he's got his head in his hands and looks distraught.
89 minutes and perhaps this game is going to finish 3-3, Lever flashes a shot at goal but puts it narrowly wide. From the restart Geller kicks it long and Bernabe beats Carr in the air and flicks the ball up to Purovic, Purovic rolls it back to Thomasse and he is confronted by the deep sitting Karabinas and Harte. No problem he says and he slaloms past both with relative ease. Thomasse passes to Pfeifenberger who as usual has found space, Pfeifenberger hits a chip first time and Purovic is in behind. Combe has come out to claim the ball but Andrieu is dropping deep to try and clear the ball, they've collided and the ball hits the deck. Purovic has all the time in the world to pass the ball into the net. He's netted his third and that's 4-3!
The Bulldogs managed to hold on and claim their first win!

Quebecois Nordiques v Green Bay United
The Nordiques have decided to change their line up this game, going from their traditional 5-2-1-2 to a more attacking 4-2-3-1, Green Bay have also made changes, going to an unconventional 4-5-1 with no full backs, 2 DMs and a sweeper, will this revolutionary tactic pay dividends against the new formation of the Nordiques?
The game kicks off, and instantly the Nordiques appear to be offering much more of an attacking threat, and Green Bay look somewhat ill equipped to deal with the high and wide attacking players the Nordiques are employing. Stoica spreads the ball wide to Seppinen who has room to manoeuvre, Canon gets out to him and manages to force him to miskick his cross for a goal kick, but the warning signs are there for Green Bay.
Lawson has dropped deeper now onto Seppinen and is largely keeping him quiet, but Preda is giving Gillespie fits over on the left hand side. Midway through the first half and Preda has managed to beat Gillispie here, and has lured out Pasic. Pasic cuts an imposing figure but Preda has managed to cut the ball back to Mandic. Mandic hits a first time shot on the edge of the box with Gil Valle onrushing. Janssen gets his body behind the ball and clings on, good save.
Janssen is known for his excellent distrubution and he has hit Feghouli on the right, it appears the gameplan for Green Bay was to lure in the wing backs of the Nordiques, but they haven't chose any this game and therefore McKinna was in a great position to dispossess Feghouli, it appears the Nordiques may have won this tactical battle.
35 minutes in and this game is a stalemate, despite their tactical advantages, Green Bay still have stellar centre defenders on the pitch and Babovic is really having to battle to get any possession in space. Babovic here though has dropped deep, luring out Gil Valle with him, he then pops the ball off quick to Mandic and spins in behind. Mandic chips it up and over Gil Valle, Pasic is sweeping in behind and heads the ball away from Babovic but Preda intercepts the clearance as he was streaking in looking for any rebounds. Pasic closes down Preda but Preda backheels it to Babovic. Babovic looks up and is challenged by Sullcata who was deepest of all. Sullcata rushes out and Babovic goes to shoot. Sullcata dices but Babovic was dummying! Sullcata slides right by and Babovic is bearing down on Janssen. He shoots and nutmegs the goalkeeper, 1-0!
The game fizzles out at this point and it remains 1-0 at the half.
Half Time 1-0
The second half kicks off there have been some tactical changes in the game. The Nordiques appear to have reverted to their 5-2-1-2 formation looking to settle for the 1-0 win, and have replaced Seppinen with Vitarelli. Green Bay have replaced Gillespie with Dale, and Lawson with Jenkot, and have reverted to their usual 5-4-1 formation for this half. Will these changes have any effect? Time will tell.
Green Bay take the ball off of Babovic and Pasic gives the ball to Jenkot. Jenkot looks up and passes the ball to Riordan, who has managed to find half a yard in the midfield, he turns and sees there are limited options to pass to and therefore decides to take it on himself. He's 30 yards out and has decided to take a shot. With his scoring record he always has a chance from this range, but Vlaovic has managed to get his body behind the ball and hang on to that rasping drive.
The Nordiques appear to almost be playing a flat back 5 rather than having their wing backs bomb down the wing, and although this means their attacking threat is somewhat blunted, they look to be containing Green Bay quite well. Gil Valle on the left has managed to mug Preda, and instantly gives the ball to Cassy. Cassy has a few yards and has decided to have a run at Meldgaard, Meldgaard stands his ground and dispossesses Cassy, but he is finding a lack of options to pass to. He picks out Stoica though and the midfielder has a couple of yards now. Stoica runs forward and plays the ball into Preda. Preda runs at Pasic menacingly, but Pasic steps out and tackles Preda, and now Green Bay attack. The ball is played long into the space Stoica has vacated and Riordan picks up the ball, Riordan looks up but this time he has slid the ball between Vitarelli and Mandruleanu, a superb slide rule pass and Boggs is in! Boggs shoots with his weaker right foot, but he connects superbly and it's in, 1-1! Wait, no it isn't, the linesman is flagging and he's given an offside. Replays show Mandruleanu stepped up just in the nick of time and it was a correct decision.
85 minutes in and the game is all one way traffic, with Green Bay pressing and the Nordiques repelling the attacks over and over. Riordan fizzes a shot in with the minutes ticking by and it's blocked by Pressley for a corner. We're deep into injury time and Green Bay are gambling here, they've sent up the goalkeeper and Janssen is loitering in the box. Feghouli floats the corner in from the right, Pasic is up and Mandruleanu is in close proximity, Pasic wins it though and heads towards goal... saved! Vlaovic punches the ball clear and it's a footrace for the rebound. It looks as though Meldgaard is goin to make it first and he has, he shoots from fully half way and it's got a chance. It's in, 2-0! And with that the game is over.

Charleston Battery v Bay Area Bomb
Whilst the Charleston Battery are flying high in the league, many observers felt the Bomb would be doing better than they currently are so far, however an away match in Charleston is not the easiest game to attempt to turn things around in.
Both teams have made tactical tweaks for this game. The Battery have switched to a 4-4-2 for the match but with the usual personnel, the Bomb meanwhile have switched to a 4-5-1 for this game, and on paper at least appear to have slotted their players into much more fitting roles than previous fixtures have indicated thus far.
Referer Siralex Ferguson takes a look around, checks both goalkeepers are ready and the Battery kick the game off. Roussouw knocks the ball to Brnovic and the young man is off on a gallop already, he looks delighted to be in a more central role and is running at pace. Sadhwani though has been pushed back into a deeper central midfield role, which not only allows his more space to use his range of passing, but also gives his back four some protection and he protects them on this occasion, dispossessing the advancing Brnovic.
The Battery seem slightly surprised by the formation tweak of the Bomb and the Bomb are managing to cause some problems. Sadhwani is spreading the ball to both Immonen and Topsfield wide on the wings and they look menacing, but Edgerton and St Pierre are no mugs and are keeping them at bay so far. Right now though Sadhwani has managed to find Kelly in a bit of space in the middle of the park. He has Gillitzer in close proximity, but he is intelligent and he dummies the ball, letting it run through to Demeyer. Demeyer has Kavelin in front of hi, but rather than take him on he's hit a slide rule pass behind Schut for the advancing Vesasco, Vesasco is quick and has left Schut in his wake, but Hoffman is super brave there, advancing from his line and smothering the ball just as Vesasco was meeting it, a let off for the Battery.
Hoffman rolls the ball out to Edgerton, and the full back has hit the ball upfield to Kaniak, the usually left sided player is out on the right today and as a result is cutting inside quite a lot, Miyoshi prevents him from making any progress, but Edgerton is overlapping at some rate of knots and Kaniak rolls the ball on for him, Miyoshi desperately slides trying to stop Edgerton but can only foul him, picking up a booking in the process for the clearly late tackle. Fortezza is standing over the ball and everyone seems to know what the game plan is here, Ganic has positioned himself right on the toes of the towering Roussouw and is not letting him get a run on the ball, nevertheless Fortezza swings it in towards the big man and he does still win the header, but Ganic has done enough to mean Roussouw couldn't power it in as is his trademark, and McManus gathered easily.
35 minutes in and these teams look very well matched, there's a lot of talent on display out there but no one has found that clinical edge yet. Sadhwani attempts a raking 50 yard pass over the top for Vesasco to run on to, and the speedy striker was a whisker away from collecting it but the ball skips through to the goalkeeper Hoffman.
Hoffman now rolls the ball to St Pierre and he carries the ball upfield, Demeyer closes him down but St Pierre managed to skip past him and is in the clear it seems. Topsfield though is dilligent on the wing and makes St Pierre check his run, he looks up and sees that Stille is making a run inside him and finds him with a clever pass. Stille is now in the middle of the park and Sadhwani is outnumbered 2 on 1 with Stille and Fortezza breaking. Stille plays a 1-2 with Fortezza and Sadhwani is taken out the game and they are bearing fown on the back four. Kwatryka steps out and Stille beats him all ends up with a cheeky round the world skill. Kennicot the young full back has cut inside sensing the danger and Stille notices this, playing the ball to St Pierre the full back who is now playing as a winger in this attack. St Pierre returns the ball to Stille and Ganic has had to come across to stop the attack, but Stille has stepped over the ball and Ganic is out of position, Brnovic is all alone 6 yards out here, big trouble for the Bomb, but their goalkeeper bails them out with a stupendous save! Brnovic tried to beat McManus with the eyes and then chip the ball over him, McManus was heading to the floor but shot up and arm and got a strong hand to the ball, parrying it over the bar for a corner!
Stille goes over to take the ball and aims it for the big man Roussouw, but it is just over him and floats harmlessly out for a goal kick.
Half Time 0-0
The second half of this enthralling game commences with neither side having made a change. both sides despite not scoring have made changes and are looking quite impressive here but have not managed to score a goal.
The Bomb kick off this half and Sadhwani collects the ball again, in this new central position he is very much becoming the quarterback of his team, commanding the midfield and distributing the ball effectively despite the close attentions of Fortezza and Gillitzer from the other side at times. Here Sadhwani has played a simple pass out to Demeyer who has drifted out more towards the left. Demeyer is another not blessed with searing pace, but he is very intelligent and always in space, and rarely wastes a pass, here playing the ball out to the very similar Kelly. Kelly looks up an sees Kavelin stepping out to try and close him down quickly, so instead of controlling the ball he lets it run across his body, and Kavelin has to concede the foul as he was heading out too quick to account for the trickery of Kelly.
The obvious choice in Sadhwani is standing over the ball on the right hand side of the box. The Battery have set up a 5 man wall as by now the whole league knows how good a dead ball specialist Sadhwani is. Nevertheless he looks as though he is going to take it on. Sadhwani runs up, and he rolls it wide for Topsfield, they were so focused on Sadhwani the Battery left Topsfield in acres of space, he squares the ball across the 6 yard box and Vesasco is there, he has to score surely... and he does, Hoffman was unable to get there and a fine training ground set piece has put the Bomb ahead, 1-0!
The Battery have responded to that, replacing Gillitzer with Mezzi, a move designed to give the Battery some fresh legs in the midfield whilst keeping the shape of the side.
It seems to be working here with Mezzi mugging Kelly and breaking up a promising Bomb attack, and now they look somewhat vulnerable as Mezzi hits Brnovic with a long first time pass. Brnovic has been roaming across the backline the whole game and the Bomb haven't always picked him up, and here he has a good few yards of space to turn into. He doesn't need a second invitation and runs at the new boy Kennicot with relish. Kennicot couldn't live with Brnovic and is beaten all ends up, Kwatryka is the next line of defence now and you can see Brnovic fancies his chances again of beating the man. He's stood on the ball, but then kicked it from under his foot with his standing leg and played the ball past Kwatryka, what a move! It's now 2 on 2 with Ganic and Miyoshi vs Brnovic and Roussouw... or is it? Stille has shown great desire in getting up in support and he's taken up a position where Kennicot should have been at right back. Brnovic finds him and Ganic is scrambling to get over to him. He tries his best but the numbers game is too much. Stille pulls it back to Brnovic, Miyoshi is in close quarters but Brnovic plays it first time to the big man Roussouw, who is 12 yards out with only the keeper in his way. He gets the ball out of his feet and smashes it low and hard to the keepers right, no chance at all to save that, what a fine move, 1-1!
The clock ticks down and no team has managed to find the key to winning the game, the final whistle blows and whilst the Bomb didn't record the win their manager hoped for, they were only undone by a goal of the finest order and very much held their own againt a strong Battery side at home.
