Might as well get this started. Today's matchups:

Cincinnati at Atlanta

Cleveland at Green Bay

Are you going to watch? I'm anxious to see Weeden again and that Atlanta offense.

Sunday's matchup between the Colts and Steelers should be interesting.

Well Weeden is suppose to play the whole first half so that will be interesting. I want to see more of Travis Benjamin, he was explosive in the first preseason game.

The first WR we've had that's fast by NFL standards in a while.

Also, it really blows not seeing Richardson yet.

Is Gordon playing for the Browns?

RaiderNation

I'm hoping to see a lot more Palmer/McFadden action tomorrow against Arizona, DHB should get some looks as well going against PP most likely. The defense looked improved and the play calling was good to see, and going against a weak offensive team could be a good test to see how much more they can progress. The dline looked very strong despite not having Seymour and if they can control things up front with our improved LB corps we should be a much better team against the run.

Mike Goodson is getting his shot at the #2 RB spot with Taiwan Jones out, and I'm wanting to see if he doesn't show much that we might go after a RB in F/A (Ryan Grant please).

Hopefully Julio Jones puts on a show in limited action like last week. I really like watching him run routes. The guy is so smooth with his cuts. It's as if he glides through a defense at times.

You sure you're not talking about AJ? Green is the very definition of what you described. Julio is more about sinking the hips and explosiveness out of his cuts.

He's just returning from injury, but his roster spot could be on the line. He can catch, but he struggles as a blocker and can't stay healthy.

Pass D looks pretty bad right now and the pass rush is inconsistent without Geno in the game, but the front 7 looks pretty darn good so far. We're running the ball and stopping the run which is good to see. Green looks faster than ever, and that catch and run by Gresh was pretty sweet. Hopefully his injury isn't too severe.

Im not one to put too much stock into anything pre-season but Mays still looks like a rookie in a lot of ways....not good if he's the presumed starter. I think they're just going to keep hoping and praying that nothing happens to Rodgers ever for the rest of all time.

Or they'll just wait for the end of training camp cuts and pick through the wreckage. One of the Browns or Seahawks QBs might end up on the market.

Harrell is the immediate backup because McCarthy thinks that he can turn **** into gold at the QB position. That's my only real complaint about him as a coach.

In addition to T-Jack and McCoy, Matt Moore could be a sleeper pick. I wouldn't be surprised if either Moore or Garrard get released, and they've both had a crash course in the offense.

It's looking like all 4 first round rookie QBs will be starting the season for their teams.

Just goes to show that there is very little chance a highly drafted young QB gets to "sit and learn" anymore. There was a thread (which I cannot find) in which I went back over the last couple of years and found that 75% of highly drafted QBs are likely to start at least one game their rookie year and that over 50% started for the entire season.

The next time someone says "Team A should draft QB X and let him sit and learn behind..." you should just stop reading and mentally ***** slap that person.

Most Miami fans wanted him to sit, but he gets better every day. During OTAs Reggie Bush said Tannehill probably should sit the year, after 2 weeks in camp, it changed to he was ready to start.

The next time someone says "Team A should draft QB X and let him sit and learn behind..." you should just stop reading and mentally ***** slap that person.

I think most rookie quarterbacks like to play anyways. I remember a few years back rookie Peyton Manning and Eli Manning said the best for them was to just get out there and start playing. The more reps the better. Hopefully your team has the right staff in place and puts pieces around that player to help them succeed.

He looked okay. Had some nice throws. One good one one third down that Little brought to the one yard line.

I read that he should have had two interceptions so it sounds also like his decision making is still pretty suspect. Hopefully he can be respectable by the end of preseason and build on that and avoid complete ass rape by flip-a-delphia week 1.

By the box score, sounds like there was a John Gordon sighting but I read that it really seems like he has no idea what the hell he's doing but it's apparent that he has a lot of talent.

His money is his money, it has nothing to do with his game.

Williams has it all. Speed, shiftiness, he can catch, pass protect, he can run with power, he can make guys miss, run inside, run outside. There's plenty of special in his game. If he got the touches of some other premier backs in this league his name would be right up there with them.

So you're saying he's Jim Brown, Walter Payton and Barry Sanders all in one?

He's perhaps average to above average across the board. And you know I won't pay running backs anything ever. I'd run youngsters on rookie contracts until their wheels fall off and then let them be someone elses problem.

I don't disagree with your philosophy, I agree with it. I don't like paying running backs either.

But I think you're being too extreme with your critique of them. Williams is a very good running back. I'd be willing to pay 8 mill a season for an elite RB, but that's my max and it would take a special talent for that money.

Having that said, Williams is a great RB and his contract shouldn't effect our perception of his game. That's not fair.

Yes but it's at a position that is one of the easiest to fill in the league. I'd rather invest the money in a pair of just about anything else...stud receivers, stud corners, stud pass rushers, stud bookend tackles...

Obviously easier said than done, but it's much harder to do when you've already invested a good chunk of money in a pair of running backs.

It depends. It's not necessarily the easiest position to fill. If your OL sucks balls, then a high level RB will absolutely make a difference.

If you have a stud OL, then yes, you can replace your RBs relatively easy. It all depends on how your team is built, and what direction it's moving in in the foreseeable future.

There's more than 1 way to skin a cat.

Some teams actually save their investments on the OL. OL talent is very expensive, and to be honest, in many cases not worth the investment either. I've stated for a long while now that I feel LT is the most overrated position in football. Interior OL talent is now getting paid a ridiculous amount of money too.

So there's a balance that needs to be realized. Is a PB LG worth 50 million bucks when you can draft a guy in the 1st round making 15 mill over the same amount of years to replace him?

Some teams have a farm system where they draft a bunch of raw OL in the middle rounds and just groom and develop them together and plug and play when its time. That's another way of saving money while getting good production. If you can save money along the OL, you actually save a TON more than if you tried saving the money at RB.

Again, there's no right or wrong answer.

I completely agree. I would never have given both of those backs big money like that. RB should be one position where you don't kill your cap. I'd pay for one elite back and then just use vets/filler behind them.

For the Panthers its already a sunk cost, but at least they should be an asset for the offense. They can both go hard and keep each other rested.

The only thing that really matters is to get a great QB. They fix 85% of a bad team.

Now they put a slow receiver out there like blackmon that only has 1 td and 48 yards in a half. That averages to less than 100 a game. Horrible addition.

I like Tyrod. He is developing well and is a real nice back up. His mobility is clutch. I could see him keeping us at .500 over 4 games possibly. I'm glad his is signed for a couple more seasons.

What's with Calvin Johnson spitting into the cup? Chewing tobacco? Doesn't seem like it'd be his thing, but I know it's not uncommon in the NFL.
