It'll be defensive. I dont think either team will score very many points, Denard will be a little overwhelmed. He outruns those Big 10 defenses but Bama can match it.

I'll be shocked if Bama doesn't score atleast 21. This isn't exactly LSU's defense on the other side of the ball.

Michigan's defense is no joke man, they are pretty damn good. Richardson was a huge part of that offense, McCarron isn't gonna be throwing it all over the place. I guess we will have to see how this new RB is.

Im not by any means saying that McCarron is afraid to throw it, but he still isnt good enough to throw it around consistently.

Bama will still have one of the best run games in the country with that OL and Lacy running the ball. McCarron was pretty efficient in his first year starting and should be even better this year, assuming some of the new receivers step up.

UTEP thinks they are one of the big dogs. They have an impossible schedule. Three of their first four games to start the year are Oklahoma, Ole Miss, and Wisconsin. My NMSU team will dominate them week 3 so they are going 0-4 to start the year.

08-23-2012, 10:14 AM
My initial prediction is 27-13, Alabama. Michigan lost its two best defensive linemen from last year and it's almost a certainty that their second best pass rusher will be suspended for the game. That's definitely not ideal when matching up with the best offensive line in the country.

South Carolina will play at Vanderbilt to open the season. We are definitely the more talented team, but Vanderbilt has talent of their own this season and its a home game for them. If we come in prepared and ready, we should be win. But SC rarely does this with Vanderbilt, and considering this may be the best Vandy team in years, there is definite upset potential in this game.

Funny, ESPN was just talking about how favorable their schedule is this season.

Favorable compared to other national title contenders (WVU is a dark horse), but going into Texas and Oklahoma State isn't going to be easy. Unfamiliar territory in their new conference. And Oklahoma coming to Morgantown? I don't know how favorable that is.

I agree that there isn't too much on. I'm assigned Ohio/Penn State and Southern Miss/Nebraska for NEPatriotsDraft. The rest are pretty much just the best games that are on at the time.

August 30th

7:00 PM UCF @ Akron

August 31st

I'll probably flip between Tennessee-NC State and Boise State-Michigan State but I'll probably watch more of the Tennessee game.

September 1st

12:00- I don't have the Big Ten Network, so I won't be able to watch Ohio State. So I'll probably check out Georgia-Buffalo.

3:30- Florida vs. Bowling Green

7:00- Clemson vs. Auburn until Alabama vs. Michigan at 8:00, then I'll flip between the two.

10:30- Arkansas State @ Oregon

September 3rd

Georgia Tech @ Virginia Tech

We have the talent to get a seventeen point win, but not sure that will actually formulate. We tend to always play down to opponents, and Vandy has given us quite a bit of trouble in the past, and they have a pretty decent team this year. Admittedly, the situations are a bit different; usually we play Vanderbilt midseason in between larger games that either tire us out or leave us anxiously anticipating their arrival, whereas this season they are our first opponent and none that immediately follow are of great concern. We lit up East Carolina last season in our opener, so who knows.

Our keys to victory our establishing the run game, keeping the passing game efficient and getting to the quarterback. Lattimore looks like he has made a full recovery, but we are missing Wilds this game, so Miles and true freshman Mike Davis are going to have to step up. Connor Shaw doesn't need to be a rockstar out there, just needs to be efficient with the ball and not turn it over. Our secondary is pretty young, inexperienced and frankly questionable, so we will need the likes of Clowney and Taylor to pressure the quarterback and make sure he doesn't have much time to test us too much.

Kinda hard to sell out when only 12k students go to Vanderbilt(in contrast, Scar has over 30k), so its Alumni's and everyone else. This is just a change in culture, it doesnt happen over 1 season, Franklin has to prove it wasnt just luck and hes taking all the steps to make it a lifestyle. Before, upsets were surprising, now its more like, were just as good as you are and we want to prove it. Its the first season where it feels like that. Im not saying were gunna be in the National Title, but we are no longer just a W on peoples schedules, and thats an amazing feeling.

Im sorry if my homerism makes me believe we have a chance to win, but this new culture, is a thing of beauty. I cant wait for this game. I love college football

Well, our secondary is looking like the inexperienced and questionable group we thought it might be. We have to fix that. That long touchdown should have been a completion, but he should have been tackled there and that be the end of it.

But regardless of how much we can improve the secondary, losing Connor Shaw may make that mute. I honestly have no idea how Dylan Thompson is going to look out there, but he was the backup for the reason. All I am hoping for is that Shaw's injury isn't too serious and that Thompson can game manage enough to get us out of there with a victory. Our tendencies to play down to opponents, to not play well versus Vanderbilt and to start the season playing sloppy are all combining to **** us right now.

That was definitely pass interference, but I will take it. Overall, looked like a stereotypical South Carolina opener to me. Last season it looked more like we had gotten away from playing down to teams, but obviously not. That being said, Vanderbilt this year is much better than past versions. Hopefully James Franklin upsets a few SEC East brethren(particularly Georgia) and gets hired away somewhere else so I don't have to worry near as much about Vanderbilt. The SEC doesn't need a competitive Vandy to **** things up further.

Ref kinda screwed Vandy over. I picked South Carolina to win the SEC East, I am not too secure in that since I think Shaw is gonna get killed by the end of the season...

I wouldn't take this game as the norm. He ran just as much last season and didn't get hurt. He happened to take a bad hit this game, and his sliding technique may be tweaked because of it, but overall I am not that concerned about future injuries for Shaw, given his status as a running quarterback.

Agreed. Tuel didn't look to good, which is a little surprising to me as I always thought he looked decent whenever I saw him. He really doesn't have much zip on his passes. The OLine didn't exactly help matters (or Kyle Van Noy).

Super excited for the Stanford game tonight. It's only San Jose St though. Shayne Skov is serving a 1 game suspension for a DUI, but there is still plenty to watch.

-How Nunez does as the next QB
-Can the OL keep it up after losing 2 top talents
-The TE Duo after Fleener has moved on, Look for TE/FB Ryan Hewitt to get more catches

Player to watch:

Stanford OLB Chase Thomas 6"4" 248lbs

8.5 sacks & 17.5 TFLs last year. The guy is quick and know how to get after the QB. Also pretty decent at dropping off in coverage when asked. 3-4 OLB but knows how to put his hand in the dirt and plays the 4-3 DE when needed.

I mean I would go somewhere I could play. Like those USC kids sitting behind Barkley - all hugely recruited and highly touted guys and they are just sitting and riding the pine. So I guess the question is would you rather ride the pine at a big school and sit behind a ton of talent at the QB position or go to a school with national exposure, have a chance to start early in your career and be part of a program with a successful recent history?

I get your point that Boise is a tough sell but I wonder how hard Boise even tries to recruit bigger named QBs.

Well Idaho has had 2 big time QB recruits in the last 5 years. Taysom Hill (who signed at Stanford) and Tanner Mangum (who signed at BYU) and they were both highly recruited to go to BSU...and they lost out on them as well. They recruit big time QB's but they even get shafted by the in state guys.

Love Michigan States win. Nice to see the Boise undefeated talk end early.

I can't believe it's football season. Finally the best time of year is back.

I would have called out in a heartbeat.

Eifert on goal line fades? If he can do that regularly, that's scary.

If Manti Te'o is available when the Bears pick, I will not be upset.

Just a late throw, ND with one red zone turnover. Will they match their 8 from a year ago?
