Weeks needs to be taken out of the leadoff spot until he finds his stroke b/c 3 K's is unacceptable

That's what I was thinking. It worked amazing when Gwynn was hitting leadoff, maybe we should do it again, just maybe. Put Weeks in the seven or eight hole untill he finds his swing.

Boston

Gwynn really should be in the lead off spot. Even when Rickie is hitting he's not a perfect fit there.

That's what I've been thinking. Weeks belongs in the five hole.

I've always liked the idea of putting Gwynn at one just b/c he's got the speed, he's patient, and he puts the bat on the ball.

Eh, JJ should stay at 2. He has this great power all of a sudden, but is still the best fit we have for the 2. He'll still shoot the ball up the infield like he did tonight.

.281, 5HRs, 17 RBI. Those aren't great numbers and you would expect more from Hall, but they aren't terrible either. Hall needs to stay there to work it out. He's starting to get it back recently too.

well,
some good things.
-Yost explosion....always good to see
-Prince and JJ are now alone on top of the NL homer leaderboard
-I was impressed that they managed to get that important game tying run in the 8th. they are really, never out of the game and have a lot of clutch hitters.

Right now the Brewers offense is handcuffed with Weeks at #1 and Hall at #4. With Freddy Garcia on the mound tomorrow I expect to see Gwynn playing and batting first with Rickie either batting down in the order or sitting a game. Jenkins can play left and Gabe Gross could use some at bats so throw him in right. Changes have to be made

I hope to see Gwynn start again tomorrow. He has a hot bat and that's what Ned has been playing. I like to see him take over the leadoff spot for good. With Rickie just coming back that gives a reason to drop him a little lower. I hope Weeks is back though, I don't feel comfortable with Miller-Graffinino-Counsell-pitcher ending out the lineup. It kinda kills our offense once we get past Jenkins.

Guess who's back? Ladies and Gentleman, Mr. Ryan Braun.

2/3 1 HR, 2 RBI's, 1 R, 1 double.

Not to mention Gallardo's stellar 6 innings of work, with one ER, and 10 K's. Somebody should get called up soon.

drowe
05-23-2007, 07:21 AM
well, Brewers lose. but, Astros and Cubs lose too. the way i see it, the Brewers started this really tough stretch (included the east coast trip immediately followed by a west coast trip) with a 7 ish game lead on the division. if they can finish the stretch with that samy type of lead, then the trip is a success.

drowe
05-23-2007, 08:24 AM
OK, I am now firmly of the belief that Ryan Braun should be called up. I have always been one of the patient, "don't rush him" guys. BUT, really, Tony Graffanino is hitting .192 with 1 homer, and he's mediocre defensively. The worst case scenario for Braun would give him better numbers than that.

AND, even if Braun does bust, third basemen with Graff's stats grow on trees. trade graff if ya can, if not, just put him on waivers. he brings nothing to the table. It's Braun time.

Boston
05-23-2007, 04:01 PM
Another update on Braun.

3/4 1 HR, 2 R, 1 double, 1BB, 2 RBI's.

Needless to say, if he isn't called up within the next week, I'm going to be pretty pissed.

On another note, there's a chance Gallardo could get called up in order to replace Sheets in the rotation temporarily, and then possibly Dessens, or Vargas.

I've been on the fence with this for a while, but now I completely agree with you. Braun's offense is a lot better than Graffinino and his defense while while not good can't be that much worse than Tony's. If we set it to Braun and Counsell at third we will be alright. Counsell can start most with Braun coming in for the lefties slowly working him in to where he starts every day. Then we get the final piece of our young infield in place. Man does that sound good. Fielder-Weeks-Hardy-Braun. Given 2 years no one will be able to match that.

Braun Update:

from milwaukeebrewers.com
LOS ANGELES -- Brewers general manager Doug Melvin and assistant GM Gord Ash were in the stands at Greer Stadium this week, and saw top prospect Ryan Braun get his groove back. But at least for now, Melvin continued to insist there are no immediate plans to bring Braun up to the big leagues.
Craig Counsell and Tony Graffanino have manned third base for the Brewers this season. Entering play Wednesday, Milwaukee ranked 27th of the 30 Major League teams with a .600 OPS from the hot corner and tied for 25th with 14 RBIs. Counsell's RBI on Monday night was the first by a Brewers third baseman since May 1.

Braun, 23, who recently returned from a wrist injury, batted leadoff each of the last two games and went 5-for-7 with two home runs and four RBIs. He leads the team with 10 home runs this season in 33 games.

"But it's not just as simple as bringing a guy in," Melvin said. "Who do you get rid of? And two weeks from now, if it doesn't work out, what do you do then? This isn't rotisserie."

Melvin pointed out that the Brewers are getting more out of the shortstop position than most clubs, and could live with less-than-average offense from third base. Shortstop J.J. Hardy was off Wednesday, but was tied with teammate Prince Fielder for the National League with 14 home runs, and tied with the Astros' Carlos Lee for the NL lead with 41 RBIs.

Asked if it would take an injury to a Brewers infielder to open a spot for Braun, Melvin said, "not necessarily." The GM figured that his appearance in Nashville would cause a minor stir, but said the stop had more to do with the schedule than with Braun.

"I wanted to see the Minor League clubs now because the draft is coming up in two weeks and after that I want to take some trips with the big club," said Melvin, who will be with the Brewers in Texas and Detroit next month.

The team's top pitching prospect also put on a show. Right-hander Yovani Gallardo earned his Pacific Coast League-leading sixth victory of the season for Nashville on Tuesday, striking out 10 in six-plus innings and lowering his league-leading ERA to 2.14. Gallardo leads the Minor Leagues with 76 strikeouts.

"It's nice to see those guys are available down there," Melvin said.

The Brewers' brass is in the middle of a tour of Minor League affiliates. Ash was at Double-A Huntsville earlier in the week, and the men traveled Wednesday evening to central Florida, where they will spend three days with Class A Brevard County. Melvin said he was planning a trip to Class A West Virginia over the Major League All-Star break in July.

"Part of it is just talking to the manager and coaches and seeing the players," Melvin said. "You let them know you care and you have interest."

--------

yeah, good thinking. T-Graf is now batting .187 and cost at least one run on defense last night. BUT WE'D HATE TO LOSE HIM.

i love the Brewer's front office, but i really, passionately disagree here.

because, we needs a boost.

I don't know. We haven't been needing Dessens a whole lot so we probably put him there to see what Braun will do with still have Graffinino. If Braun does fine I'd assume that Dessens comes back and we say good bye to Tony.

Dave Bush will have one more start before Elmer Dessens comes off the DL and Bush has been struggling as of late. With that in mind, let's say Bush struggles again in his next start, do you think they move Bush to the bullpen, have Elmer go down to AAA, and call up Gallardo and put him the rotation????

How 'bout Will Inman. 6 IP with 12 K's.

On another note, we need to pick a lineup, and go with it. With all this lineup shuffling, it's no wonder we've been struggling to score runs lately.

Our main lineup should be...

Weeks
Hardy
Braun
Fielder
Hall
Estrada
Jenkins
Hart
Pitcher

That, is one hell of a lineup. With this, we'd be trading Mench and Graffanino somehow...

Honestly, if I were the other team, that lineup would scare me.

The Hardy and Reyes thing pisses me off bad. Reyes has a .312 average, .1 above Hardy, and yet, Hardy has 8 times more HR than him, and 15 more HR's. Terrible, terrible voting. It was a super close call so when the guy called out, being the hometown fan you have to stand up and question the ump's manhood, well I do that and again, I'm front row, and Rentaria is fricken staring me down, so I stand up and shout "whata gunna do?" just like in the south park episode where randy gets in all the fights at all the little leauge game, he stares at me for another second then finally turned around and walked back. Capellan worked to improve his changeup in his starts, and said he will throw more offspeed pitches if he is called on for multiple innings of work. Working in the late innings last season, he worked almost exclusively with his mid-90s fastball and his slider.

I don't mind the pitching matchups. Marquis will give up the runs and Bush did pitch well in his last start. Lilly is struggling right now and Vargas isn't on the top of his game so I expect alot of runs on Tuesday. Wednesday is Suppan against Zambrano and Zambrano has issues right now so the Brewers are catching him at a good time before he figures everything out

according to the Brewers web site, the Brewers will NOT be taking the Cubs lightly.

in other shocking news, the earth is round, the sky is blue and the bears still suck.

seriously, that was pointless. yeah, good. they're not taking the Cubs lightly. ya think.

Fielder batted .321 in May with 13 homers and 28 RBI. The 13 homers were a club record for any month.

Cuz everyone wants to see the Cards win again despite their crapingness and 4 of their 5 starting pitchers being former closers and middle relievers and the other one should be playing in the Australian League.

Cards still in this....I will be in Milwaukee next Thursday through Saturday to do some things to prepare for college including registring for classes, and I will put a curse on Miller Park. It worked on Wrigley, so it should work on Miller Park. Unfourtunantly, the Brewers will be over here in the state of love that I am moving out of, but I will still voo-doo it.

so, really. what happens when Rickie Weeks comes off the DL? the way i see it anything they do will have to involve a very permanent roster move. they could:

-Waive T-Graff-the guy has picked it up since Weeks went down, but he's still the most useless offensive player on the team, and can't be sent to the minors.

-Send Capellan back to Nashville-yeah, THAT would go over well. I would imagine this would cause irrepairable damage to the Capellan-Brewers relationship and his time in the organization would be over.

both of those options would be very permanent, and thus, not very attractive. but really, what else can they do? nobody on offense warrents a demotion except possibly Gabe Gross....and i don't even know if he can be sent down. and for pitching, Capellan seems like the only option.

it'll be interesting.

Had Braun not being doing as well as he is it would be a must to keep Graffinino. However he came it and has been very good right away. That allows Counsell to be the utility player so we don't really need both. So I say get rid of Tony. Don't forget we still have Dessens on the DL too though. Once he's able to come back I'd send Capellan down again aswell.

Also day game today, starting right now.
