I don't know why, but I have always liked the Brewers for some reason, even though you gave us Bud Selig. I think the Brewers have a legit shot at taking the Central this year. Cecil's kid is going to chase 50 on his own this year, I've always liked Richie Weeks, now if he can just stay healthy. How close is that Braun kid from taking over third? Didn't he get drafted the same year as Alex Gordon?

Good luck with this year. And whenever you're ready to send Ben Sheets to Boston, just let us know. :p

Braun's bat is ready for the big leauges, but he's just got to shore up his defense, I think he'll be ready my mid season and starting from there on just like what they did with Weeks

IF Weeks can lay off bad pitches and make contact, IF JJ Hardy can stay healthy, IF Prince can pick up where Carlos Lee left off, IF Geoff Jenkins can bring his batting avg. up to aruond .275, IF Turnbow and locate, and IF Suppan can be anything like he was in the playoffs last year, the BrewCrew will make the playoffs.

There is a lot of IF's, and the Brewers are a perfect example of the word P-O-T-E-N-T-I-A-L

Honestly, I think they put it all together, and squeak into the NL Wild Card.

Go Brewers!

Yeah also the difference in sound between the two in the booth. This new guy sounds rather close to Schroeder. I also noticed that they replaced Coushun(or however it's spelled) with some chick. I do like that they brought in Davey Nelson for post game.

Ben Sheets against Carlos Zambrano should be an early season classic. Brewers built a little momentum at end of the game and Sheets is coming off an unbelieveable opening day start. For the Cubs Zambrano did struggle against Cincy but they found their offense tonight. Ir'll come down to the team that can put up runs early before the opponent gets in a groove and which team plays solid defense becuase baserunners will be few and far between and every little thing will matter

Reminder: 12:05 start

wow, can't believe i haven't posted in this awesome thread yet. i'm probably a bigger brewer fan than a packer fan. i'm so pumped that they're gonna have a winning road trip against the cards, marlins and reds. asking for a win tonight is almost greedy...but we haven't had the brooms out all year.

so, how long before ryan braun ends up in milwaukee? personally, i think they're just looking for a reason now. they say his defense is the problem and he can't hit the broad side of a barn when he's throwing...luckily, our first baseman is roughly the size of the broad side of a barn...so, i don't see what the problem is.

Theres really no need for Braun to be up right now with Counsell and Graff at 3rd and one more year of development will help him. He'll be up next year with Counsell backing him up.

there is no way in hell Braun stays in Nashville all year. I'd be shocked if he wasn't in Milwaukee by late june. Cousell and Graff are stop gaps. Yost has said that if Braun played average defensively he woulda made the opening day roster. Ryan Braun will be up within 2 months. you can sig quote that if you want.

I would love for Braun to be up in the Majors too but the brewers feel it is better to have a player in the Minors a little too long than too short. I'll be excited when he comes up but I don't know if the brewers will make that move this season. Injuries to either Counsell or Graff would be his ticket up.

well, time will tell. i wouldn't even be surprised if their next roster move was bringing the kid up.
#1-he's not even really being challenged in the minors anymore. he has nothing else to prove or learn offensively.
#2-his weekness is defense. get him up, let him work with the Brewer's coaches. Dale Sveum seems to have worked wonders with Rickie Weeks in that department. the difference is night and day from last year.

of course, the issue is, if you bring him up, ya really have send a pitcher down in his place. because i can't see any offensive players going down (Gwynn would be the only option and he's done everything asked of him). so, yeah, it probably will take an injury to get him up. but i think he'll be here sooner than later.

and then 2008 will be the year of Yovanni Gallardo.

GB12
04-17-2007, 03:16 PM
Braun will be up in the big leagues by the trade deadline. He will probably ride the bench for a bit and get worked in slowly. I don't know if he'll be a full time starter at all though. I would expect him to share time with one of the two. Thing is like you said, clearing up a roster spot for him. Again as you said sending a postion player down is not possible. We haven't been needing a lot of relief pitching, but none of them deserve a demotion.

And it's nice to see you back drowe.

I'd hate to see Jenkins go. It'd be kind of sad actually. He's been in Milwaukee while we sucked something awful. Now when everything's looking up, he's out the door.

On a different note, anybody got anything on Yovani Gallardo. I know he pitched a gem a few days ago, but when do you see him making it to the bigs.

for Gallardo, i'd say next year. maybe a september call up this year. on ESPN.com's top 100 prospects, he is even listed higher than Braun. can't remember where he was. top 15 for sure.

last year I was begging the crew to trade Jenkins.. but honestly, look at our team. The top 4 hitters are under what 24? We NEED veteran leadership and Jenkins provides that. We can't keep bringing up younger guys and thinking they will put us into the playoffs.

Just an question about Sheets...Am I the only one who could see he was going to give up 6-7 runs and a few HR's? He throws 94 mph fastballs right over the plate and up*** in the zone. His curveball works great he just needs to locate his fastball and hit spots. otherwise he's in for a long year.

I'm still undecided right now, but it will definetly be talked about around the deadline. The veteran leadership doesn't make sense to me. Jenkins has never been much of a leader, and we have Mench, Grafinino and Counsell as veteran position players. I like him but I can't say we absolutely must keep him, I would like to keep him, but it might be best for him to move on.

I like the Brewers chances of a sweep in Chicago. It will be Soriano's 1st game back after his injury and his bat won't be as effective and the temps are going to cool down a bit so the balls won't fly as far. Need I remind you?

''The difference was the ballclub,'' Zambrano said of following a poor five-inning start against the Reds with seven strong innings Saturday. ''In Cincinnati, they're better hitters than in Milwaukee. I don't say that the Milwaukee Brewers are nothing, but the offense of the Cincinnati Reds is better.

''With [the Reds'] Ken Griffey and all those guys, when you make a mistake, you will pay for that. Sometimes you make a mistake with Milwaukee, and sometimes they miss it, which is good.''

honestly, all 5 have had their moments this year.
Sheets had an amazing opening day and looked strong in his last start.
Capuano has been solid all year except once. but he has problems making it past 5 or 6 innings.
Suppan is a consistent inning eater.
Bush is up and down. he had 3 complete games last year, and came really close yesterday.
Vargas...who knew we were getting such a strikeout guy? 11 in 6 innings. WTF mate.

i really believe the Brewers have the best rotation in baseball right now.

btw, Cordero might as well not even put a uniform on because that dude can't possibly have much of an arm right now after the last 2 games. luckily, the rest of the bullpen will be in good shape. it'd be interesting to see Turnbow get a save opportunity in the 9th if the situation calls for it.

something i thought of regarding Ryan Braun...if the Brewers continue to contend into july, they'll clearly be buyers at the trade deadline. SO, if somebody goes down with an injury and need to be replaced through trade, could Braun or Gallardo be moved to grab a premier player? every year, there is always one or two players that all the contenders want at the deadline. and if the Brewers are true contenders, and had more leverage than anybody else to grab a premier player and help themselves down the stretch, do they do it?

Good thing that Villanueva was a former starter, as he looks to go into his 5th inning.

I had terrific night last night with my two home runs and I would like to say that you know our team is headed in the right direction when you send you 4 and 5 starters out on the mound and face the aces of the Cubs and the Astros and you win both games. Hopefully Suppan and Sheets can put together good starts and the Brewers can bury the Cubs right in the bottom of the division.

Quick Fact: The Brewers are 4-0 in games that Gabe Gross has started.

this isn't the tut your own horn thread, haha, but seriously, prince is a stud. That was clutch last night. And who ever saw little JJ hardy coming into this leauge being even a decent HR hitter. Man I love that guy.

Prince-Nice to see you come one here and post right away. Crazy to think you can hit like that and talk on here inbetween innings....reminds me of my old roommate when he enjoyed acting like he was Beckham.

Nice win last night. Sloppy at times, but a win is a win. And a game like that last year, there's no way the Brew come back. Definitely satisfying! Especially against the Cubs.

I must say, there were some weird @$$ decisions made by both managers last night....

wow the guy we face today is 3-0 less than a 1.00 ERA..where did he come from?? I like Supp's chances though, he has been consistent this year. I feel like we should win every game now. It's crazy we are only 19-20 games into the year, but I feel really good about the Brewer's chances of a postseason this year. atleast Im hoping

yeah, rich hill is a stud this year. he'll be tough to beat. the good news is, the cubs bullpen is in a lot worse shape than the brewer's pen. seriously, a 12 inning marathon, and the only guy that won't be available tonight is villenueva.

The thing that held up ARod to the cubs was that the cubs would not trade Rich Hill. Thats how highly he is thaught of. But i have faith in my brewers, to give him his first "L" of the year.

With Hill regardless of whether he was in the minors or majors was to be aggressive early in the count and go after the fastball b/c if you fall behind you're going to have difficulty hitting his nasty curve.

Yeah, Vilinueva really came through. The Cubs had to go through there whole bull pen and all we had to use was Carlos. Now theirs will be hurting and ours will be refreshed.

So we could have 2 straight years of having an allstar closer with them being 2 different guys. I know it's early, but anyone want to give allstar predictions.

Cordero, Hardy, and Prince, I'll guess.

I highly doubt this game happens today. looking at the forecast, it doesn't look good at all. which blows because the Brewers are on a roll and the Cubs are sucking. and the pitching matchup favors the Crew.

drowe
04-25-2007, 08:52 AM
and, as far as all stars, i can't see the Brewers getting many...BUT, that is a main reason why they've been so successful. while there aren't any true superstars on the team, they have a roster filled with guys that can step up and play at an all star level any time. in the first month of the year, almost every Brewer has had some sort of slump, but for every player slumping, there is another guy stepping up big time.

so, Cordero for sure. maybe JJ Hardy as a backup to Reyes. and probably somebody from the rotation...I'd guess Capuano.

M1Koter
04-25-2007, 10:27 AM
I still think Hall is the best brewer. Yeah he's struggling in center but he's gunna get his defense up to an all star level someday. Probably next season but he'll get it up to a solid level this year. If I was to give out one allstar vote, it'd probably go to Hardy so far. It's hard to imagine one of the skiniest guy on the team be so succesful with the long ball but he's doing it and he's always been right there on defense. Thats what got him to the majors.
