Can we stop the ship from sinking?

If Ponder couldn't get anything going in the passing game the past few weeks with Harvin playing, I don't like his chances today without him. AP is going to be facing 8 in the box all game, Ponder is going to have to complete a few big passes for us to have a chance. Here's hoping, but I am not expecting much today.

2 keys to the game: Jerome Simpson MUST be a playmaker today and the front 4 has to get to Stafford

Defense has to cause multiple turnovers, and a big special teams play (Sherels) would also be huge today. If the Vikings can somehow get the lead early and then pound AP to control the game/clock, we will have a chance.

Or maybe Jairius Wright will be the playmaker instead?!?!?

That's essentially what the Vikes did the first time they played Detroit. Got a couple special teams TDs and recovered a fumble and then held on at the end.

Good start, and really nice to see Wright stepping up when given a chance. I really liked him coming out of Arkansas to be a slot receiver and he's off to a great start when finally given a chance. Supposedly he's a terrible practice player and that's been a big reason as to why he hasn't been active.

Nice first half. Hope we come out and play the same way in the 2nd half.

Jerome Simpson is just worthless.

Looking good, but still a lot of time left. Very encouraging game from Ponder today w/ no Harvin to bail him out.

Also encouraging that Rudolph has gotten open today. Been awhile for him

I cannot emphasize enough how ******* awful our defensive backs are.

Stafford looks like That One Guy At Every College Party Who Rages During Beer Pong when he wears his hat like that.

Brutal no-call on Levy.. clearly interferes with Rudolph.. and now we punt. Of course.

Thankfully AP disagrees.

Anyone think we can get at least one win in the four against CHI and GB?

One? Of course. I doubt we end up finishing better than 9-7 though, the rest of the schedule is ridiculous.

I think it would take 10-6 to get to the playoffs.

I think the two factors that will determine the outcome of these games is QB pressure on both sides of the ball. If we can't protect like we weren't able to do the three previous weeks, Ponder just doesn't have the poise to make any plays in the pocket. That will just enable the opposing defenses to square in on Harvin because they know Peterson's gonna be able to do whatever the **** he wants because he's not human. Then on defense, without Cook to help lock down their receiving threats, if we can't get some consistent pressure, we will 100% get carved up. We're going to really need to mix up our blitzing packages in the following weeks. For the rest of this season, we're going to get some definitive answers on Ponder, Allan Williams, and the right side of our line.

I'm also eager to see if Jairus Wright can keep this up. I wasn't able to watch the game due to cramming for exams. But if anyone can answer a couple of my questions it would be much appreciated. How did Kalil look today? I was underwhelmed by him in the previous few games. Was it A.J. Jefferson we had getting raped by Calvin all game? And how did the right side of our line perform?

Kalil was a beast as usual. I gotta disagree with you on his play over the past few games. He's been shutting down or damn near shutting down whoever he's going up against. He's gotta get stronger and better on his technique in run blocking, but he's damn near perfect in pass pro. Calvin pretty much worked everyone, but most of his damage was done by getting up the seam against cover 2 and then no one can jump with him so Stafford just threw it high and he went up and got it as well as Brinkley not getting deep enough in his drop down the middle. I thought the right side of the line was fine. Johnson got worked at LG a few times by Fairley and Suh, and then Fusco got beat at least once by Fairley.
