no the Edmonds pick up is far from a good one... it's a stupid move. Look at what he's done the past few years and look at what he's done this year. If we want someone to come in an hit in the low .200s then we might as well play Felix Pie everyday at least he's not 38 years old.

obviously though this does give Pie a chance to play every day in Iowa... and it's a low risk pickup, but Felix has actually shown improvement, and needs to be given a chance.

Hey 51... how is it to be a fan of a team that is feeling the effects of not being on the juice for the past three years?

Hi Smokey,

I'm not sure I understand your comments. You think the Indians slump in offense is due to steroids? Perhaps with Hafner, but I'm not sure I can see that with anyone else. It's hard to say though. As for how it feels, I can't say I really care that much. I root for the Indians because I want Cleveland to experience a championship season for the fans that haven't seen one since Jim Brown (i.e.: anyone under the age of 50). It doesn't effect my life in the slightest, particularly since I live in Minnesota and can never watch them anyway.

As for the White Sox, I wouldn't delude yourself into false hopes. They have the same offensive void, brought about probably by the same issues (Thome, A.J, Dye) and I don't see them making the playoffs. If they do, they'll still be a quick one and done. Hell, just listen to the manager.

Rich Harden and Randy Wolf seem to be the most likely targets at this point... Also mentioned has been Greg Maddux, although that's not recent. Erik Bedard has also been mentioned.

Personally i'd like Bedard... Harden could be great for us if he were finally able to stay healthy... which is asking a TON.

Good news for regoob, as Rich Harden is going to the Cubs, link (http://blogs.chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sports_hardball/2008/07/cubs-moves-in-t.html)
The trade included Chad Gaudin from Oakland, while the Cubs gave up Sean Gallagher, Matt Murton, Eric Patterson and Josh Donaldson. Good trade for both sides.

The Dodgers have a very nice lineup and losing game one is a disaster.

That win just gave all those young guys a ton of confidence & Manny is just incredible.. That pitch he put into the bleachers was pretty remarkable all things considered. The ball looked like it was at his ankles & the wind was blowing in.. crazy ****.

Dempster folded like a lawn chair.. Just awful. I was surprised when he was named the game one starter to say the least even though his numbers have been awesome @ Wrigley. Personally, even though Harden's velocity has been down he is still the most devastating pitcher on the roster & I would have liked to see him go game one or at the very least two.

Fukudome is 0-for-8 with four strikeouts through the first two games and has just one hit in his last 21 at-bats. With the series heading out to Los Angeles, Piniella could go with Mike Fontenot or Reed Johnson in right field.

Maybe not this next year. but in 2, we have a legit team if they can pull together some quick prospects and a catcher worth salt.

Votto, Bruce, Keppinger, Chris Dickerson... Cueto and Volquez... That's the start of a pretty solid team.

Cueto is seriously overrated. Bruce hasn't shown me anything yet, same with Keppinger.

Volquez and Votto are the only sure things at this point. Well, Phillips too.

That would be Kevin Gregg, unless you were being sarcastic.

The Swisher move puzzles me, unless it was initiated by the Sox and they feel they are dumping a piece that will not work for them.

Swisher could fill the first base job for the Yankees now that Giambi is gone. That is as long at the Yankees don't get Teixiera, if they do Swisher splits time in the OF and at DH.

I do give Wood credit though because he stuck it out through his injuries and was loyal to the Cubs. It does make me sad that he will not be back with the Cubs next year. I mean the guys has been a fixture, whether on or off the field, for the last 10 years! Not many guys hang around like that these days. I really hope the Cubs could work out some sort of deal to keep him around, although I don't have high hopes for that happening.

But as others have said f*ck Prior.

He's played like 12 games in those 10 years. I only assume his ego is the reason he wasnt a set up guy. Wood had some great games and I remember his 20 K game that was great but this is a case of what have you done for me lately.

how was Wood a bust? He was good, but Baker ruined him...he had a really good rookie year, had injury problems yea but still managed to average like 28 games for his first 5 years and 12 wins a year, then Dusty ran him into the ground, and in his first year as a closer he posted just over a 3 era, 34 saves, a 1.09 whip, and a .219 BAA, not to mention he is a fan favorite and an all around class act on top of being a decent player

he wasn't the ace he was envisioned to be, but he is hardly a bust

Cleveland played some of the best ball in the second half, and now they have a closer. If they can stay healthy, they will be contenders. Once 1/2 of the Twins lineup become one-year wonders and the Tigers pitching remains in the tank, I see the Indians as the biggest threat to stop us from reaching the postseason for the 3rd time in 5 years.

Kansas City- 35-35
Chicago- 36-36

If momentum counts as anything, that's a good sign. That said, starting pitching will be a big issue until Jake Westbrook comes back.

Felix Pie for Garrett Olson and a minor league pitcher.

Good move imo. We didn't have any room for Pie right now and Lou seems to hate him for some reason. There were reports earlier that Olson was the type of pitcher the Padres were looking for in return for Peavy, so this deal might have been a pre cursor to a bigger deal.
