Nick Saban offered a scholarship to an eighth grader. (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/8989200/alabama-crimson-tide-offer-scholarship-eighth-grader-dylan-moses)

Bama claims the kid is 6'1" and 215 lbs. 34" vertical, 9' broad jump, 4.4 forty yard dash.

He plays running back and linebacker. He's bigger than the linemen blocking for him. The highlight video is hilarious and predictable. He just runs around doing things that would be done by any 6'1" person in a field full of people 6 inches shorter and 60 pounds lighter than him.

Does not compute.

Hopefully for the sake of the rest of the class of 2017 this kid is done growing. Something tells me that porbably is not the case.

Yeah, who even knows what kind of player he will be in even 3 years?

It seems the early freaks often don't maintain that, they are just early developers.

Then there are the freaks that continue to be freaks throughout their lives. Those are the rare breeds like LeBron and Adrian Peterson.

What bugs me the most is that I can watch all of the highlights and not have even a little bit of an inkling as to whether he's good. The competition is so tiny, weak, uncoordinated, and slow that it's basically videos of one guy running up and down an empty field. I'm old enough to be his grandfather, but it would look a lot like that if I were carrying the ball against those kids, too.

How did Saban figure out that the kid merited a scholarship offer? Is it based solely on him hitting puberty early?

I get why a world class douche bag like Lane Kiffin does this, but  at Nick Saban doing it.

Well he did offer Tim Williams during his freshman year and some kid named Leonard Fournette so he seems to know what he's doing.

Probably figured it based on the fact that Les Miles had already offered Dylan a year ago.

Wait, you don't think Nick Saban is a world class douchebag as well?

His douchebagness is backed up with titles, Kiffin's is backed up by nothing.

The block at 2:11 is outstandingly hilarious.

Well David Sills is proving to be worth the scholarship offer and will likely be the top QB recruit in the country for the 2015 class so...whatever.

If the kid is motivated and a hard worker, and the current numbers are correct, I don't see the problem. It seems like the worst case scenario is he outgrows the RB position and turns into some sort of freak athlete at another position, because 6'1, 215 with a 4.4 forty is worthy of a scholarship for anyone, let alone an 8th grader.

I'm not even going to go back and look. You've got to be talking about that 4'6"-ish kid who goes end over end for 3 yards. Made me lol, too.

That video is just sad for the other teams. He is just head and shoulder (literally) above those kids. It's worth offering this kid with his physical numbers already. He might really grow into a freak and then Saban just looks smart for getting in early.

If this kid sucks later on, would anyone be surprised if Saban just weasels his way out of it?

There is no shot in hell he is playing varsity teams in that film. Looks more like a freshman game than anything....and hes doing exactly what he should. But if he is 6'2" 205 and runnin 4.4 right now I have no doubt he will continue to get stronger and run faster, will be more a question of whether he continues to get taller and outgrows the RB position.

when i was a bit younger i was a fieldhockey coach and trainer and after practice we sometimes played a game where i played against the entire team i was training by myself (they were young kids) and this kids film kinda looks like that. like there is about 6 years of age difference

I bet this kid keeps growing and eventually ends up on the defensive side.
