Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Dolphins have agreed to terms with receiver Brian Hartline.

Itís a five-year, $30.775 million contract, with $12.5 million in fully-guaranteed money.

DG could you be so kind my dude and sticky this thread?

Good to have one starting WR locked up. Now bring us Wallace, Ireland!

Was surprised and happy to have Moore back too. 2 year deal is perfect as we can now ignore the position for the next couple years with Tanne, Moore, and Devlin.

Please Baby Jesus let Mike Wallace be a Dolphin by this time tomorrow.

And bringing us a guy by the name of Cook would be great too.

Ohhhhh would Mike Wallace and Jared Cook bring some speed to this O! Add Eric Winston at RT and that would be a PERFECT DAY!

Sounds like we missed out on Cook. Would love to see us go after Brandon Myers, honestly probably would have preferred him to Cook anyway. Ideally, Egnew vastly improves in year two but I have little faith in that happening after his first season.

EDIT: Apparently Dustin Keller in the mix too, feel about the same way about him as I do about Cook, not overly highly.

Remember the "Leadership Council" that went to Philbin to talk about keeping Ocho? Nobody expects Bush to be back, good chance Long finds more $$ elsewhere and Ellerbe signing likely means the end of Dansby. Overhaul of leadership complete.

Yep, Dansby is gone! Frees up almost 4 million but that will likely just go right to Ellerbe. So I guess we have around 15-20 million left in cap room?

Kinda pissed we couldnt seal the deal with Cook, but cant be too pissed I guess since he does have connections with Fisher.

But overall, very good day so far for us. Alot of excitement and no way we are done in FA. I'm guessing we will sign one of the top TE's, a corner, and either Long or Winston.

Sooooo, not entirely sure the reason for the LB corps overhaul. We didn't really upgrade, we just got equivalent players at similar prices that are younger. I suppose that was the point, get younger? Clear out the "old guard" and get "Philbin" guys?

We upgraded a little I think. The two new LB's are more explosive then Dansby and Burnett. Thats something that Coyle likes from his LB's according to one of the PBP guys. I would think the defense will be more aggressive next season.

I think Dansby and Ellerbe are a wash, but Wheeler over Burnett is a HUGE upgrade IMO. Wheeler is one of the better all-around 4-3 LB's in the league now. Was outstanding as a blitzer and in coverage for Oakland last season.

Some very nice pickups indeed. Really bummed about Cook though. Not too sure how I feel about addressing the TE position now. I would almost rather sign a blocking specialist and go with Clay as the full-time #1 TE rather than pay big money to guys like Myers or Keller.

Still haven't seen the terms on Gibson but I think he's a solid depth signing. Was worried they'd cut Bess after signing him but the fact that it hasn't happened yet makes me think they'll be keeping him. I like the one year, get healthy and prove yourself deal for Keller, allows us flexibility at the position, be it drafting another one or seeing if another offseason of development turns Clay or Egnew into a real player and then maybe looking for a new one next year.

Lots of good things being said about a return for Jake Long! That would put the icing on the cake for this free agent period to me!

Lets see how our offense has upgraded so far this season shall we?...

#1 WR? Hartline to Wallace? Upgrade!

#2 WR? Bess to Hartline? Upgrade!

#3 WR? Scrubs to Bess? Upgrade!

#4 WR? Matthews to Gibson? Upgrade!

#1 TE? Fasano to Keller? Upgrade!

Cant wait to see this new offense and how Tannehill looks with real talent around him. And have you guys seen the twitter stuff from the OL about trying to bring big Jake back? ******* awesome! Hope it gets done.

Barry Jackson said the Dolphins vision a plan for both Bess and Gibson.

Long picked the Rams with a 4 year/36 million contract on the table. I love the guy, but no, not at 9 million a year.

Your turn Jonathan Martin!

Damn, really wanted Jake back. Wonder what we do now, pursue Vollmer or Winston? Move up and get a tackle in the draft? Maybe we'll flip Martin and take Kyle Long in the second, give him number 77 and hope for similar results.

Supposedly Winston "really wants to play for Miami." That's strange to me since last year he wanted nothing to do with us. I like him but I don't want to overpay for a RT and I have concerns over paying someone who was cut twice in two years. I'm also not overly sold on Martin improving and being able to hold down the LT fort.

Here we go my brothers, the new Dolphins logo has arrived.

The team wont "confirm" it until draft day but this is the real day. The face masks are suppose to change from green to white and the uniforms are suppose to have the old school feel to them. All I can say is...ITS ABOUT TIME!

going into 2013 the dolphins look good i think. They need a playmaker on offense tho.

If Ireland can get us another seam threat TE and another WR who's a deep threat, we will be fine in the playmaking area.

Who you all got for the first round?

Dion Jordan!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

villagewarrior
04-29-2013, 07:25 AM
Jordan isn't the best Dion in this class, that belongs to Sims. Jordan has never been asked to be a pass rusher, much more of a combo coverage type. Will be interesting to see if he can do it in the league. Jamar Taylor is an exciting player at corner, but there's not much else to write home about with the Phins draft.

I stopped reading after you said Simms is better then Jordan. GTFO with that weakass trolling garbage.

I thought Ireland did a pretty decent job during the draft. Not much complaints other then wishing he drafted a slot WR somewhere and a LT. Dallas Thomas COULD be a LT I guess but all I gathered about him, he seems more of a guard. Loved the Jordan pick and what a rape job he did to the Raiders by only giving up one 2nd rounder to move up that high. Brady gonna be pissing himself when he sees Wake on one side and Jordan on the other.

So I was bored and I was looking at the "5-year" plan kind of thing and its amazing to look at our drafts from the last five years. When you follow the arc, its no wonder we've been mediocre, at best, the last two years and are now trending upwards. It's also important to mention that while a lot of these guys aren't on the team anymore, Ireland hasn't been quite as bad as his reputation might lead you to think.

2008:
1. Jake Long
2a. Phillip Merling
2b. Chad Henne
3. Kendall Langford
4. Shawn Murphy
6a. Jalen Parmele
6b. Donald Thomas
6c. Lex Hilliard
7. Lionel Dotson
Notable UDFAs: Davone Bess, Dan Carpenter

This is actually a really solid group of players. Shawn Murphy was the only real bust here and him and Dotson are the only two that are out of football. While none of these guys are on the Dolphins anymore (save for Carpenter who isn't expected to make the final roster this year), there are three current NFL starters among this group (Long, Langford, Thomas), with Henne as a potential starter as well, and the others are all sticking on rosters as depth players. That being said, the fact that none of them remain on the Dolphins points to their inability to retain their talent. Notable: There are three other UDFAs that were originally in camp with Miami that are still on NFL rosters, DT Anthony Toribio (Chiefs), TE Matthew Mulligan (Packers), and Pro Bowl FB Marcel Reese (Raiders).

2009:

1. Vontae Davis
2a. Pat White
2b. Sean Smith
3. Patrick Turner
4. Brian Hartline
5a. John Nalbone
5b. Chris Clemons
6. Andrew Gardner
7. J.D. Folsom

This group is about on par with the 2008 group, though there are still two players on the Dolphins here in Hartline and Clemons, both of which are starters. Davis and Smith were both good picks despite neither still remaining on the team. Gardner has stuck around as a depth OT in the NFL, currently on the Texans. Nalbone, Turner, and Folsom are all out of the NFL and White is trying a comeback attempt after failing miserably and the silly Redskins are entertaining it. White and Turner were both big-time WTF?!?!?! picks as nobody really expected them to be NFL players. Ryan Baker is the only UDFA that deserves mention as he stuck around for a while bouncing between the active roster and the practice squad but he's out of football now.

2010:

1. Jared Odrick
2. Koa Misi
3. John Jerry
4. A.J. Edds
5a. Nolan Carroll
5b. Reshad Jones
7a. Chris McCoy
7b. Austin Spitler
Notable UDFA: Marlon Moore, Jonathon Amaya, Roberto Wallace

Edds and McCoy are the only two from this class that aren't still on the roster. Edds is out of football and McCoy recently signed with the Eagles after a couple seasons in Canada. Odrick, Misi, Jerry, Carroll, and Jones have all been starters at one point or another, with Jones being an elite safety this season and Odrick being an above average player. I feel like this was a turning point for Ireland/Miami. I think this draft produced a better overall crop of starters as we started to see more immediate contributions and higher-caliber players.

2011:
1. Mike Pouncey
2. Daniel Thomas
4. Edmond Gates
6. Charles Clay
7a. Frank Kearse
7b. Jimmy Wilson
Notable UDFA: Pat Devlin

This is Ireland's smallest draft class and probably the weakest overall. Despite finding the best C in the NFL in this class, none of the other players have been anything more than a role player/minor contributor. Thomas has struggled with health and has few fans and there's a good chance he might not make it out of training camp. Gates and Kearse are still developing on other teams' rosters but neither have shown much. Clay has flashed at times, as has Wilson and both could push for starting positions this year. This class looks weak overall on paper but could still have a strong showing if Thomas can somehow turn things around and/or if Clay can find some consistency and Wilson can wrest the FS job from Clemons.

2012:

1. Ryan Tannehill
2. Jonathan Martin
3a. Olivier Vernon
3b. Michael Egnew
4. Lamar Miller
5. Josh Kaddu
6. B.J. Cunningham
7a. Kheeston Randall
7b. Rishard Matthews

Finally, Miami took a QB in the first round! This class will be make or break on Tannehill honestly. Cunningham is the only one that didn't make the roster last year, spending the year with Eagles and I think it would be a mild upset if any of them didn't make the roster again this year. Martin, Tannehill, and Miller all showed flashes last year and all three will be counted on to take big steps forward in their second season. Vernon will likely see decreased playing time on defense with Jordan in tow but he should be a core special teamer. A wildcard here is Egnew. He looked terrible last season, similar to guys like Gates, Pat White, and Pat Turner. Will he come to training camp and make massive improvements or will he look like the same player and get cut?

Overall, it seems pretty clear why Miami has been improving the last couple of years. The last few classes have produced a ton of starters and they found some big-time players in Jones and Pouncey. If a few more of the guys that are on the fringe can take steps forward, particularly Tannehill, and supplemented with all the signings we made, I firmly believe that we can end the Patriots' reign, probably not this year, but hopefully we can finally provide them with a real threat within the division that can stand up for the long haul.

True comment: There were two or three plays in practice yesterday when Michael Egnew looked like an NFL tight end. #Dolphins

Well...still an improvement from last season.

Is it just me or has Charles Clay been a forgotten man for a while now? Granted he needs a lot of work still but I like him as a potential #2 TE/HB.
