I enjoyed it. It showed the other side of war. The mental aspect. They could have easily made another war movie with blood and death every which way you look, but they took it a step further and went into the head of these soldiers. Good movie when I think about it.. wasn't amazed during it but I appreciated it after.

I like when he makes them learn that saying about their gun.. and when he makes him sing a song in front of everyone because he thinks it's band or whatever.

The movie/book was loosely based on my time serving in the Persion Gulf. They changed the name to "Jarhead" because they didn't want to pay me any royalties. Because of this I refuse to see the movie, and have to continue to go to work every day.

What was so terrible about it? Not enough people died?
I had a good discussion with my friends in the Marines about Jarhead. According to them the thing that the movie really hit the nail on the head with was the whole boring aspect. There is a lot of time where you have very little to actually phsically do. Though they all seemed to say they thought the characters were a bit ludacris and out there.

Knowing that it was based on a book, I can tell that there was real story to be told somewhere in there, but then Hollywood got ahold of it and filled it full artificial bull crap and left wing propaganda as usual.
For instance, when the one guy dies during boot camp and everyone just goes on with their lives... uh... I'm sorry, there would have been an investigation or something.... it doesn't work like that.
It felt like the first half of the movie was spliced together from other war movies and then the last hour it actually tried to say something new.
