The NFL Experts at Scout.com report that new Falcons guard Toniu Fonoti has looked good thus far in off-season conditioning workouts, per Falcons head coach Bobby Petrino.

Fonoti's weight ballooned up to 400 pounds last off-season when he was with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fonoti is listed at 350 pounds, but has had issues with his weight in the past. Praise from Petrino seemingly indicates that he is in better shape this year as opposed to last year.

Fonoti is expected to push for a starting job at left guard this year. Right now, the starter would be Tyson Clabo, who started ten games last year, all but one of which came at right guard.

Great news.

Fonoti will start at LG from what I'm hearing. hopefully the rest of the OL has gained the near 20 pounds they were told to a piece. we could have a big line that way:
LT - Omiyale (6'4" 330) or Gandy (6'4" 335)
LG - Fonoti (6'4" 370) or Clabo (6'6" 335)
C - McClure (6'1" 305)
RG - Forney (6'3" 325)
RT - Weiner (6'5" 320)

Does this mean we can lay OG off our top list of priorities in the draft or do we still look at Grubbs in the 2nd if he drops or somebody like Ramirez in the 3rd?

I think we still look at Ramirez in the 3rd for sure, and Grubbs/Blaylock.

I agree. Relying on Fonoti would be the wrong move, hence why the team only signed him to a low end 1-year deal.

Yeah, now if he plays real solid, that's fine, but we need to make Offensive Line a strength of ours and that means we're going to need depth. It doesn't have to be day 1 picks, because OL a lot of them are mid-late round guys, but we have to make sure we invest properly to get that as a positive for this team.
