You tap X as fast as you can. I like to set the controller on a hard surface (desk) and use my index finger.

Make sure you wait for "Go".

Just buy one of those controllers that have the turbo button and then you can get like a 4.3 40.

I've run a 4.19 with my hand, as a d-lineman. If you can tap fast enough, it's easy.

I don't press the button, rather I rake my finger across the button horizontally.

Beating the drums and playing piano?

haha

I'm usually pretty bad at button mashing games, but what Ward said definitely helps.

Personally, I have a friend who is a button mashing beast who I'm just like, "OK, when it says go, just mash the **** out of X"

Haha. I guess. I actually meant 4.19 or whatever's the lowest in my earlier post. I get about a 4.4 with my lack of mashing skills.

Of course, I don't like to play that mode anyway because it's long and boring with a lot of problems IMO.

Yeah, both NCAA and Madden have LOONG ways to go before their career modes work out. I hope the jump to the next gen will allow for these modes to be better, but with Madden it's hard because the offseason AI is bloody awful.

Madden's is terrible. I like the 3rd person thing, but the camera is terrible and running 40's on it are hard

You could always try the bottle cap slide as well. Take the cap off of a coke bottle of whatever, put your two fingers in it, and slide it over the X button. Sometimes it works well, other times, not so much. It worked way better on the old Nintendo, but that only had 2 buttons, and with the 4 on the PS2, sometimes it messes you up. Really, my fingers just get raw from running them over the button so much, so this helps save me some pain.

EDIT:That last sentence sounds great if you put it in another context.

Changing the subject, how come the 40 in Madden is so screwed up? I'll run a 5.5 with a wide receiver.

In PS2 I once got a 4.27. Other highest was 4.31. Its only hard fior the next gen coonsoles. Anyways you have to hold the controller in a certain position, if only i could show you. Then tap X with the index finger nlike a mad man. While tapping, make sure your finger never goes a mm over the button.

If X360 I feel ypur pain. With real guys like Steve Smitth and Willie i can run fast but in SStar mode i get like 4.7 if im lucky

I ran a 4.29 with a 6'5" 240lb QB one time. his mom was a Olympian Gold medalist in track though. I think his father was a linebacker or some such?

I usually go for the Hall Of Fame fathers, but if not, a mother who was a medalist or college sprinter. While doing QB i like to look for a Pro Pitcher for a dad.

yeah, my accuracy suuuuuucked my rookie year. but i ended up making the hall of fame with 30k passing yards and 10k rushing yards and around 700 total TD's. Vick can suck it!!!

LOL, thats a crazy TD count. When I pick a HOF dad, i dont pick Dual Threats but Brett Farve Gunslingers or Tom Brady Types. Sadly this ***** up the speed.

Perfect Combo

HOF Dad - Brett Farve Gunslinger type
Gold Medal Mom
