What College do you go to or plan to attend. What major?

I have accepted admittance to Ohio State, so if you go there, see you in fall. Starting out as a physics major, no clue where i may ultimately end up (not to say i will not stick to physics).

Also, if anyone does go to OSU, and helpful hints? Like, best dorm accomodations? and what are "MUST do's?

Graduating high school this year, chose to go to Villanova, in PA. Got a friend playing football there a year older than me, plus its a great academic chance for me(though..very...expensive). It was between that and Northeastern.

I'm a junior and will apply to the following schools (in the order I would like to go) this coming Fall:

1. Georgetown
Strengths
Great academics...good location in the Wash. DC area ... good sports, mainly basketball
Weaknesses
Campus under construction... decent/OK climate at best... only an adequate business program... gets engulfed by massive lineman... financial aid could be better
Notes: Father went there: nice asset to have

2. Duke
Strengths
Great climate... beautiful campus... great academics... pretty girls... very good aid packages
Weaknesses
Doesn't have the size you look for at the position... only 1,200 admittants... JJ Redick went there... few scholarships
Notes: Redick is no longer attending Duke.

3. UNC
Strengths
Great size... good/great academics... wonderful financial aid program... great campus
Weaknesses
Only accepts 18% students NOT from NC (about 800)... doesn't have elite timed speed... football team is balls
Notes: Sister is currently attending.

I went to Worcester State College and majored in English... and Communications... and Biology... and Chemistry... and English again... yeah I changed majors a lot... they wanted to rename the school "the University of Massachusetts-Worcester," which would have been waaaaaaaay cooler, but didn't...

Woo.

Here are some miscellaneous tips:

-Get involved in intramurals. It's fun to keep playing sports and you meet a ton of people with similar interests.

-Don't lock yourself in your room and be anti-social. University is the perfect time to meet people, so get out there and make some new friends.

-Wear sandals in the shower.

-Only bring one set of dishes. Anything more will mean that you let dirty dishes pile up.

-If you're not legal age, get a fake I.D.

-Realize that you learn more outside of the classroom than you ever will inside it.

-Don't be afraid of change because there will be a ton of it, especially within yourself.

Hmm...i thought we weren't supposed to promote illegal activities haha. But hey, just out of curiosity because I don't have one, is it easy to distinguish between real and fake, because I've been hearing they made consequences a lot mroe serious, at least where im from.

It depends on a huge number of factors. I have a fake I.D. that has never failed. It's a valid driver's license of a person that looks similar to me but the picture is pretty fuzzy. Our heights are also similar. Plus, I used that I.D. to have a second piece of photo I.D. made with my picture on it.

But how much of that is based on the fact that you're a University student, and not on the fact that you're older/have more freedom/probably live on your own?

Anyways, I haven't really learned anything about "life" lately, and I learn *at least* 1 new thing per class... but it also depends what classes you take.

I wanted to go to the University of Connecticut when I was coming out of high school, but I was only able to get on their waiting list. When I started at Worcester State, I had planned on transfering to UConn after the first year, but then I decided I was going to the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy, which after a year and a half of taking pre-reqs, I decided wasn't happening. The only other school that I got accepted to that I would have wanted to go to was the University of South Carolina, and I probably would have gone there had it not been for my trip to Miami my senior year of high school. I realized how far away I would be from everyone and I decided it probably wasn't a good idea since I thought I'd end up at UConn.

I kind of regret that one...

Depends how good of one you can get. Most will cost 140-160 for a good California one that scans and black lights. California and NY are the hardest states to fake so it also depends where you life.

I know someone that got a pretty good Maryland one in NY for like 35 on the street that works at albertsons and pretty much anywhere. It all depends.

And moses is right about learning more out of class than in class. You learn nothing in class really, or at least nothing real relevant.

4.1, but i have discovered that GPAs don't mean jack, it is all about the test scores regardless of what the school tells you.

High test scores = money. Unless you have some special circumstance.

Good grades and solid score may get you accepted, but in the end it comes down to money, ie: why i am going to OSU instead of Case Western.

Bingo. Tons of kids have good G.P.A's, and the difficulty of schools by region to region vary so much. I have students that whine that in high school they always got A's when they don't even have adequate reading/writing skills to succeed in college.

I got into Lehigh as well so that was a tough decision for me, but my dad went to school there so I've been there forever and wanted to experience something new. Plus Lehigh seemed almost the same as my hometown while Villanova wasn't as similar. Lehigh's academics seemed better but on the other hand 'Nova has better athletics. It came down to the fact that I just got a better vibe at Villanova when I visited than I did at Lehigh.

I really wish I applied to some harder schools though, I had no idea how easy of a time I was going to have getting into some schools. I was so worried about getting rejected everywhere I applied to some pretty low-level schools, and did not apply to nearly enough reach schools, if any at all. Now I'm stuck wondering what could've happened had I applied to better colleges.

Probably OSU for me too. I currently live in Columbus so its my best option. Oddly, I was thinking Physics major also, but I am starting to change my mind. How would be a good job for a physics graduate? Teacher? HELL NO FOR ME!

Just because you major in physics doesn't mean your profession will necessarilly involve physics. A lot of people major in physics then get a MBA, or go to Law school, or become an engineer. But i would never be a teacher either, unless it was the head of a department at a university, but even then you still have to work your way up.

I wouldn't be suprised if i wound up in egineering, but i chose physics because i still haven't lost to childhood ambition of being an astranaut....lol.

Very true. I plan on getting my Bachelors in B.A. here at UL, then getting my MBA from LSU, having a nice 20-30 year career in the business world, then becoming a teacher. I've always wanted to teach. I actually thought long and hard about getting a degree in Secondary Education, probably with a Social Studies concentration. Who knows what I'll do with my degree, there are just so many possibilities.

Thats pretty cool. I'm from Livingston, NJ. I hate the town and can't wait to get out, one of the reasons I picked Nova is because I figured it would be a lot different than my hometown.

On a side note, about how many schools should someone get accepted to/rejected by, I guess percentage wise? I mean obviously nobody wants to apply to so many reaches that they don't get in anywhere, but you probably shouldn't get into all colleges you applied to either, right?

Oh alright yeah, I got to Old Tappan HS, its in Jersey too.

You don't want to go to Case anyway man. Trust me, I'm more familiar with collegiate education in Ohio than anywhere else. Case is full of it's own ****, and the number of cases of depression and dropout there are ridiculous. They are smack in the middle of Cleveland and have no idea how to have fun. It's sad really. I know some kids that go to University of Chicago and they are exactly the same way.

the University of Chicago...where fun goes to die.

Does Tim Byron still coach ball there? He was my pitching coach for a few years before I blew out my elbow. You guys had a crazy good pitching staff last year if I remember right, and lost one game on a BS call on a pickoff where they called something stupid like a do-over that I've never heard of before.

On Topic:

I am planning to go to Wright State University in Dayton. I was originally planning on University of Findlay near Toledo, Oh. UF gave me a 9k scholarship but in the end, it would still be the same amount as going to a state school if I receive absolutly nothing. So I will most likely go to Wright.

My major is undecided with Pre-Medical coursework. I was thinking of majoring in something like strength and conditioning or athletic training instead of the typical Biology or Bachelor of Sciences.

I could end up seeing you Freddy in OSU since OSU/Wright/Ohio school of medicine/Case/cincy are the only Ohio schools that have a Medical school. It's A LOT harder to get into out of state Med schools.

Yeah Byron still coaches, I played until my soph year but stopped to focus on football. He was my gym teacher last marking period haha.

How many places can you apply for in the US, over here you can apply to 6 at first, they give you entry conditions, accept you or reject you and then you have to pick a first and second choice. Seems like some people are applying to lots of Universities is all.

You can apply to as many as you want. There is an application fee for each one though.

I just got message I was accepted to a... well it's like a college I guess in Utrecht (which... well it's about half the size of Amsterdam m'kay?) I'll be studying journalism there.

Pretty happy I got in... the selection test was really tough but I actually rated number 3 (out of 500+ candidates) so I'm really, really psyched about it.

(I'm not bragging, I'm just... very very happy)
