I ran a successful (although short-lived) NFL Draft website. I decided to stop because I couldn't put in the time I felt it deserved. I was also offered a job to create an NFL Draft website from a businessman who saw my website.

I am considering starting a Beer website. Don't know very much about the whole building a website thing though. What route would you recommend I take? I mean, do I need to learn some type of computer language, or should I use a template or what? Where do you recommend I purchase my domain from? Help me out here. Just point me in the right direction. I've got the ideas for how my site will look and what the content will be, but I just need to know how to create it. Is there a particularly good book I should read on the subject?

Nice. I'm checking out bravenet right now. I wonder how much bandwidth/disk space I would need. Could somebody give me rough estimate of how much I would need? I mean, for the average website with a forum. Like this one. Or this one- http://www.ratebeer.com/

I can definitely give you some good advice.
It's always best to learn HTML and CSS if you want to put together a good quality website. These are the building blocks of every website and you can create the exact template you want using them. Most people find them fairly simple to learn. Just Google search for HTML Tutorial or the like and see how you find it.
What do you want to have on your beer website? A forum can be had very easily by installing phpBB (http://www.phpbb.com) (free). If you want a blog, I highly recommend WordPress (http://www.wordpress.org). Depending on the functionality you want on your website, you may need other scripts as well. Let me know and I can give you more specific advice.
As for hosting, I would recommend going ahead and paying the $10 or less a month and have a quality host. I used Host Gator (http://www.hostgator.com) for awhile and they're great if you're just starting out. Go Daddy (http://www.godaddy.com) is the best for domain names. You can grab a .com for about $7 a year.
If you need to know anything else, let me know. I would love to see another beer website on the net. :P
P.S. Sorry if any of this went over your head, I can ellaborate on anything if need be.

Awesome. Thanks Moses. So looks like my first step will be to learn HTML and CSS. I think you're right, it's probably not wise to look for too many shortcuts. So I'll get on that first. And yes, I plan to have a forum and a blog. My goal is to have a more interesting and user-friendly site than the big 2 that are out there right now. BA is pretty awesome, but RB is poorly made imo, and they charge a premium. I also intend to put a lot more focus on craft beer in America than they do as I'm not an expert on the stuff across the Atlantic, and I think that there are a large number of people who would appreciate a more localized focus. I'll check back with you when questions arise (that is of course, assuming you don't mind.) Thanks for the help.

Umm...
I know more about rugby than everyone else here. YAY!!!
I once recorded 8 quarterback sacks in a game when I was eleven playing corner in a game where we came from behind 24 points at half time to win the finals for the league I was in.
I played varsity football as a freshman defensive end / tackle at 5'3 140 pounds. I started the last game at end (I lined up about 5 yards away from the furthest down lineman :D) and played at Ivor Wynne Stadium (Hamilton Tiger Cats) where I stripped 2 balls and recovered one. I had like 1 tackle though. The game before that I started at defensive tackle and was matched up with a kid who was possibly the worst offensive guard to ever step on a field. I got like 8 assisted tackles because I was too small to get anyone down alone, just slow em down close to the LOS :D.
One time in rugby I pointed one with my left hand towards one of my players when I had the ball and the defender went that way and left me a huge gap that I ran through for a try. I scored a 118 yard try from my own try-zone in U14 rugby. I once got away with elbowing a kid in the face that was being an ass hole and tackling high by saying I missed with the stiff arm (the ref was my coach a couple years before this). The kid broke his nose really bad and got a concussion and I didn't even get sin-binned. Yay.

In turn, that will also eventually mean more girls overall, since women cannot resist the allure of cash. We'll see who is getting more action 20 years from now when I'm earning double what you make.

Dartmouth College graduates rank #1 when it comes to earning power 10 years out of school, according to a new study of pay for graduates of 300 colleges and universities.
Graduates of America's smallest and most rural Ivy League school have the highest median salary, $134,000, 10-20 years out of college, according to the 2008 Education and Salary Report compiled by PayScale.com.

In all honesty, right now where you get your bachelors isn't nearly as important as it was 10 years ago. The market is flooded with college grads and now the real money maker is where you get a Masters. The smart route really is to go to the state university where you'll pay less and then aim big for grad school.

This is more or less correct. I have little doubt that he'll get a nice job, what that leaves out, of course, is that most kids that get into Ivy League schools do so much less on merit, and more so on connections. Therefore, anyone that already has built in connections (which this guy has already explained), is going to a nice job based off of the same connections that got him into an ivy league school in the first place.

1. I don't have a dad. Never seen the guy.
2. I have a lot of connections at other Ivy League schools-Cornell, Harvard, and Brown. Oxford to. I don't have any at Dartmouth. They don't care about the family you have at other ivies when they review your app. I got in there because of my application(which was very good) and recruiting. I had to retake the SAT/ACT twice to bring my scores up before they'd take me.
I'll admit I did know a coach at my school who knew a coach there and helped convince the Dartmouth staff to look at me. That's the best connection I had, and it just got me in the door. I was not a legacy candidate. Maybe at Harvard, but not Dartmouth.
3. I don't have a lot of money to throw around either. There is plenty in the extended family, but me and my mother don't have much. I didn't get in because of that either.
I still claim Epic Win.

It should be a depression, this country has been falsely inflating our economy of years, going into significant national debt to fund failing enterprises, there will be a point in time where balance is restored, this country's economy falls drastically and eventually we'll cut our spending on fruitless enterprise. This is an eventuality, we can push it back and make it worse but eventually we won't be able to push it back any further as no one will continue lending to us for ever.
We haven't even bottomed out and returned to a long term sustainable level and we won't soon.

I thought about going to the air force academy for quite some time, up until last year actually. I wanted to be a pilot. Thought about AFROTC to, even started working on applying. That, and I joined the Civil Air patrol. Then I realized that I might've been too big to fly. The limit for my height is about 200 pounds, but I'm normally 225(230 now).

Truth.
Ivy's are actually easier than people want to believe... because, conspiracy aside, it's more about who you are than what you are... and, yes, as someone who knows many, many, many, many people from Ivy league schools. They're not the 'hardest' or 'best' schools in the nation, they're just the ones most likely to write your own ticket once you get out, because you already wrote your own ticket getting in.
That said. I will never forgive USC for outright rejecting me. Maybe they didn't want 'diversity'... *******.
I visited Harvard a lot (mostly because there's a place with fantastic Frappes around there). I will say that it's entrance competitiveness is much more difficult, but, it's course rigor is much less than a lot of GREAT non-ivy institutions. Same goes for Brown, Yale, Columbia... UPenn is, IMO the most rigorous of the ones I've actually sat in on... That said. May Notre Dame rot in hell.

Not true, companies like to hire recent grads because they can pay us crap since we're desperate for jobs. Also, I am doing my teacher's certification so I am not worried about jobs at the moment.

I'm suggesting you think about it also. It's the "toot you're own horn thread" not the "tell us why you are the second coming of Jesus thread."
I was joking when I suggested earlier in the thread that getting into an Ivy league school made me smarter than everyone else who didn't. I assumed most of the thread wasn't all that serious, and acted accordingly(as did others) by over emphasizing the importance of my admittance, and when people questioned me I just responded.
But hey, you know what, just **** it. You can believe what you want, I can't be bothered trying to change your mind.

I'm with you there. I was running a 4.0 in my major, even being awarded as the best out of all non-graduating seniors (I guess that's my horn-tootin' moment). I wouldn't be at all surprised to see two Bs this semester :/

I threw a no hitter my Sophomore year of HS on Varsity.
7 IP, 18 Ks, 0 hits, 2 BBs
Yes that's right, I struck out 18 batters.
I thought i'd resurrect this because two days ago i probably had my proudest moment.
Every year for the past 24 years the rugby club i play for has something called an 'ironman' challenge. This falls on Silly Sunday/Mad Monday - for those that don't know, this is just the drunken celebrations you have the couple of days after your season finishes. Anyway, ironman involves every active player in the club, the only exemptions being those that have previously won it.
Now the actual event involves running around the field (rugby field so it's 120m x 70m x 120m x 70m) and stopping at a station at the completion of each lap. there are 12 stations in all so its about 4.56kms (nearly 3 miles). At each station you have to stop and consume something
station 1 - pint of beer
station 2 - 3 raw eggs
station 3 - pint of beer
station 4 - half glass of olive oil
station 5 - pint of beer
station 6 - half glass of vinegar
station 7 - pint of beer
station 8 - glass of off milk
station 9 - pint of beer
station 10 - 3 dry weet bix
station 11 - pint of beer
station 12 - 300g steak
People spew, alot.
First one to get the steak down is crowned Ironman Champion, gets an awesome trophy, crown and scepter, doesn't have to buy a single beer from that point on and most importantly, never has to do Ironman again.
So on Monday i won the ******* thing!
At the age of 21, youngest in the history of the event to be crowned Ironman Champion.
Probably the proudest moment in my life. haha.

When I was 12 I had my first sexual experience. At the time, I lived in a little suburb outside of Cleveland and anyway, the girl next door and I were really good friends. Our parents were both gone for the day and she was over playing Transformers with me. So anyway, we kinda got.. Bored I guess? And we started playing truth or dare, which turned into 'you show me yours, I'll show you mine". So anyway there I Was, 12 years old, heart pounding, blood rushing in my ears, and the chick (who was a year older than me actually) takes off her panties and hikes her little skirt up. So What did I do, you ask? I whistled for a cab, and when it came near, the license plate said "fresh" and there were dice in the mirror. If anything I could say that this cab was rare, but I thought "naw forget it, yo home to bel-air!" I pulled up to the house about seven or eight and I yelled to the cabbie "yo homes smell ya later!" Looked at my kingdom, I was finally there. To settle my throne as the prince of bel-air.

The olive oil and milk would be the toughest part of that equation, well that and the near on 5k run. What was your winning time, I would think you would be looking at the 35mins or so mark? I've found that in that sort of activity you should add about 10mins to the average time to run the distance, because the guys who excel over that distance tend to struggle with the drinking and the guys that can drink struggle with the run and about 5mins per km is a nice steady pace.

I done killed so many draftnuts in the booth I sell posters on ebay,
Soldiers couldn't cause more disaster on D-Day,
Haters better cover up they jaw like freeway,
Cause every post records spit instant like replay,
Hold the line i got ya momma on 3-way,
Tell her Staubach's got more legit facts than a essay,
Tell her she should blow me like candles on ya B-Day,
Cause I've signed more lines then shes passed on the freeway,
More stats then you ever could imagine more wood up in my dorm room then in a forest full of cabins,
And yes i stay floatin on that purple like Aladdin,
And experts say i talk more game than John Madden,
How'd it happen how the let me in the booth, how they let these posters lie how dare i tell the truth!
Im the truth and these other boys phony, Its a movie so act like ya know me.
Im a draftnut to the death so i got what ya need, Staubach12, im the last of a dying breed, And we almost extinct so im saying it loud, Say it with me, ( draftnuts move the crowd) x3
I got it baby,
And im a draftnut i move the crowd like moses,
Like the Red Sea i wear red like roses,
Go against me and you'll be dead like roses,
Spittin at ya head full of bread like toaster,
Never had a bag, I keep my laptop on my lap,
And the draft aint dead it just had a heart attack,
What you see i keep it pumpin yeah i got that hard back,
Soldiers call me Little Captain or Little data track,
Precious like a artifact, Valuable like a quarterback,
Edible like they call me jack, Fall back like a starter hat,
Nah did he thought of that, I mean how did he think of that, i mean how did i think of that, Now like a rental bring it back,
I mean how did i think of that, i surprise myself sometimes,
Someone should throw me a surprise party for every post of mine,
Everytime i do what i do i do it dirty like swine for the dirty and fine draft coverage im alive!
Im a draftnut to the death and i got what ya need, Staubach12, the last of a dying breed, and we almost extinct so im saying it loud, Say it with me (draftnuts move the crowd) x3
This is knowledge muscle mania, my brain is on steroids,
passenger planes im on the jet son like elroy,
Flying through my posts is an amazing read,
Al Davis would love me posting at this amazing speed,
The new draftguide came out my bro said STAUBACH GET IT,
but when it comes to knowledge i'm the only POSTER WIT IT,
New Era on ya brain like a A-Town Fitted,
And im not E-40 but im so sick wit it,
Now my flow got the flu,
Hoes i gotta view, but im stingy with the facts im like no not for you,
What the **** was you thinking?
Off what im banking, you makin silly posts what the **** was you drankin?
You out there doin just the best that you could,
but i'm the absolute greatest, let's make that understood
Im a draftnut to the death so i got what ya need, Staubach12, the last of a dying breed, and we almost extinct so im saying it loud, say it with me (draftnuts move the crowd) x3

Time was 38 something, those last few beers were the most difficult and time consuming. Doing that much running, with that much liquid in your stomach is just not nice. Very very happy i never have to do it again.
EDIT: wait, that's a lie, the beer was the most sickening, but the weetbix were like chewing sandpaper.
