View Full Version : The NFL Draft Poem

For English I had to write a poem about a personal struggle, and since I'm not deep like that I decided to write my poem about waiting for the NFL draft. I spit hot fire right here:

For several months, I have waited
Just to know my team’s selection.
My thirst for the draft must be sated
Time it seems, has no direction.

The 28th is the day,
When it begins at last.
I will have to find a way
To wait like in the past.

The Eagles need one
Ready for the pick’n.
The only solution:
Michael Griffin.

The NFL Draft draws close,
But it still appears far.
Fans seem quite verbose
As they crowd ‘round the bar.

The offseason is very tough
On the average football fan.
Lacking football is so rough
Many fans, like myself, make a plan.

Mock drafting is the name of the game
It passes the time, but it is daft.
My situation remains the same
Impatiently waiting for the draft.

Hopefully I'll get a good grade on it but since my teacher is a huge feminist I kind of doubt it.

Yes, I really do. I hate poetry if it doesn't rhyme, I don't mind it if it's on a subject I care about though, then it's ok.

Thanks for the support everyone, if you have any inspirational draft poetry, post it.

Since the end of the superbowl, I have been waiting
For the NFL Draft, filled with anticipation
That the Eagles will not fail me like they did in the playoffs
I was so mad when were beaten by the saints who i'm hating

Filled with 7 rounds of beauty, it's the GM's duty
To draft rookies hoping they wont become the next floozies
Who will be the #1 Pick. Russell or Johnson?
This debate has Oakland filled with many conflict
They really need a QB, but CJ is the best player in the draft
He catches balls in midair like a **** floating in a space craft

The NFL draft is almost here, has me tossing and turning
Will Matt Millen draft an idiot, or has Mike Williams helped is learning...
Curve that is because he has made some big mistakes
He has left the lions fans filled with wounds and aches

Only 10 days left, so near yet so far
The NFL draft is likely to leave a star
Will we find the next Peyton Manning, or Ryan Leaf
Which team will end up has the drafts biggest thief?

PART TWO COMING SOON!!!!!!!!

Everyone will think this post is blank
But Green Bay's got some money in the bank
So in this years draft we can afford the studs
Like Marshawn and Nelson
And avoid the duds
Like Ginn and Houston

Okay I dont really believe Houston or Ginn will be duds, but I couldnt find anything else to have approximate rhyme

Ok Im gonna make another one.
How about this

Since the end of the superbowl, antcipation's been buildin'
I hope the Eagles take a Safety, specifically Michael Griffin
The day is almost here, April 28
It's 2007, this year is gonna be great
There's so many talent this year, i dont know where to begin
An abundace of players who can contribute to wins

Will the number 1 pick be a WR or quarterback
Will Oakland surprise us giving their fans a heart attack
And who will be the thief of the day
Maybe Detroit will make a dumb pick, leaving us in dismay
The day is almost here, I sleep tossing and turning
The thoughts and possibilties have left my mind burning

This one sucks to but whatever.

Agreed, you need some structure. Mine has meaningful structure. It counts down from 9 syllables to 8 in the first stanza, then 7 to 6, then 5 to 4 counting down, just like I am counting down the days until the draft. Then it counts back up from 5 to 6, then 7 to 8, then a solid block of 9 to solidify my point that even while waiting for the draft it just doesn't seem to get any closer and you stay waiting just like before.

It's awful I can't wait til next year when I'm out. The girls in class all get A's for participation, coincidence? I think not. I want a masculinist teacher to balance things out.

Finally got it back... 81, that is weak ****. Apparently it is not a life-or-death dilemma, it's hard to take my poem seriously, and there isn't enough exaggeration to show that it's satire.

Maybe I'm serious? She underestimates my love for the draft.

“The Browns are on the clock”,
It’s sweet music to my ears.
This year is gonna rock,
And soothen all my fears.

With the third overall pick,
The Browns choose Thomas.
All my friend’s will get a kick,
Especially that kid Khomas. (Thomas doesn’t rhyme with anything.)

Brady Quinn the quarterback,
Dropped down to twenty-two.
Who was gonna trade back?
Only Phil and I knew who.

The smartest pick was for Quinn:
The future leader of our team,
Will give us a sure playoff win,
And instead of an arm, a Laser-beam.

After all that’s said and done,
It is the Browns, who have won.

Did it in like 5 minutes.

We traded with division rivals
and i just chuckle
while the fat fu*k Andy Reid
Loosens his buckle

We draft Kevin Kolb
hopefully McNabb gets a hint
he is taking your job
and to the Bears McNabbs sent

for a first round pick
and a second or two
McNabb the prick
no longer wearing a Eagle shoe

With our luck
He'll play fresh and new
making Reid say F*ck
what the hell did I do!?!

McNabb is a joke
Can't win the big one
Seems like he's a choke
Time for a young gun

Kolb wins the Superbowl
McNabbs bowl is chunky soup
Kolb knows how to win
McNabbs poop.

Officially mine took at most 11 minutes. You can see from when I posted my Haiku to when I posted my Sonnet. Yes it is a Shakespearean or Elizabethan Sonnet. The Rhyme scheme is ABABCDCDEFEFGG but doesn't have the iambic pentameter.

Did you know the only male iambic names are like Jamal and Tyrone. I had to write a sonnet and I wrote the whole sonnet about a guy robbing a bank but couldn't think of an iambic male name until the end. I had to use Jamal. My teacher read it in front of the class and the black chick in my class got pissed because she thought it was racial stereotyping.

I was just rhyming in my poem but I made up a good meter and rhyme scheme. I just don't see why poems are supposed to be so deep, it all becomes pretty cliche. I don't consider myself deep, so I refuse to pretend like I am to get a good grade. That in itself is kind of deep so this whole situation is kind of ironic which my teacher did not grasp.
