View Full Version : James Toney vs Sam Peter Showtime sat. night!

09-01-2006, 09:13 AM
A big ass time heavyweight fight that has been getting an incredible amount of hype. I haven't seen a heavy weight fight get this much publicity in quite a while. Even real boxing fans, who hate the heavyweight division nowadays, are excited for this fight.

Toney (69-4-3) vs Peter (26-1, 22 KO's)

Just as a summary though, Sam Peter is a true puncher. Dude has Tyson power. He's looking to KO a James Toney that has never been KO'd in 77 fights. Peter's only loss is to Wlad Klitcho whom he knocked down 3 times but still lost a unanimous decision. Toney is a tremendous Boxer with solid power and the best defense in the HW division. Toney, a former middleweight, is a HOF'r but has been out of shape for his past few fights. For this fight he weighed in at 233, which is better than his 3 previous weigh ins.

I could do my usual page of prefight hype but its 10am and at school I'm a lot more busy than usual, therefore, I'll let some links do the talking.

It's not even a PPV fight, anyone with Showtime can see it which is great.

So who ya got?

I'm going Toney in a UD  . I'm rooting for a KO from either fighter though. I like Toney, and I like Peter. If I had to pick one I'd rather win I'd go Peter though because he could show Saturday night that he is the real future of the HW division. He's actually exciting to watch too, he's not like watching a glass chin jabber like Wlad.

Toney is MUCH better boxer, while Peter has MUCH better physical tools.

Peter is still VERY raw. He doesn't know how to use his jab well. Toney should take advantage of it. But not if he slacks off again.

Ussually in these types of fights I take the guy who is a better boxer, but after watching what happend in a Toney-Rahman fight, I find it hard to believe that Peter will lose it.

I'm taking Peter....maybe even by a KO.

PS: it's true that Klitchko went down 3 times againt Peter, but all 3 times it was because he lost balance after missing with a big swing and Peter just tapped him on the back of the head.

Klitchko was never really hurt in that fight.

Gotta go Toney, the man is a wall, he's taking everyone's best. I think he'll be looking pretty ugly at the end of this one but, he'll win it.

Very Excited for this one.

pumped 4 this fight, wont be able to see it tho as my dorm doesnt get shotime. I have not decided who i will choose yet because i need to see toney at the weigh in. if he is in good shape, i think he will win. I dont think peter will be able to hit him at all. if he comes in fat again, i can see peter getting to him.

Hell yes I'm watching the fight but some things bug me about these guys.

James "Lights Out" Toney - Toney is a fat tub of goo and I hate him.
Samuel "The Nigerian Nightmare" Peter - Dude, that's Christian Okoye's nickname! He's a nickname stealer and I hate those guys.

But, my prediction is Toney gets a KO in round 9 (Peter will tire)

Toney won't KO Peter. Peter has a pretty good chin, he proved that against Wlad, and Toney has less power then Klitchko.

But if Toney fights smart and Peter continues to swing away instead of boxing, Toney should win on points.

yeh, i cant see toney KOing him. He would probably win on pts. And if he is not in shape, I could see peter getting a KO win.

He weighed in at 233.

Of muscle or of fat?

Look, I agree with you that Toney is a MUCH better boxer then Peter.

But Peter is much better then Rahman, and Toney had difficulty with the latter one.

he looked solid. not like a boxer, but better than before. i will take toney, who i think will frustrate the very raw peter with his HOF caliber defense.

Yes, that's MUCH better on Toney's part. His gut almost looks like it's about to show a glitch of a 6-pack......ALMOST. :D

Peter is actually the one who looks more out of shape in that pic.

Whoever wins this fight will without question get a championship match unless it's an all time epic battle that needs a rematch. This fight has been getting a ton of hype!

I'm at school and due to various reasons I'm not going to be able to watch it. They may track it round by round on espn.com but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'd love it if someone did a round by round.

Peter SHOULD win.

But Toney is much smarter and has enough power to pull this out.

Toney KO's Peter in the 7th.

welp, peter won by split decision. my buddy called me who watched the fight and said Toney got robbed. Poor judging is by far the worst part of boxing.

i heard it wasnt a robbery. heard it was a very close fight that easily could have gone either way. Also heard that the score margain of 116-111 for peter was way too wide.
