I didn't see Machida or Martin, so that kinda blows. What are your thoughts on the Huerta fight? He seemed to land the knee on the shoulder but the way his opponent went out it seemed to be a knee to the head, weird.

Yeah there's no doubt he was legit out. But it was weird the way it happened.

A little MMA update...

Apparently Terry Martin was not lying when he said hes the hardest hitting MW. He broke Jorge Riveras Nose and Jaw.

Cro Cop is alreayd ready to fight again and will fight in April at the UFC UK event (which is rumored to air on HBO) My guess is he will fight Chiek Kongo.

Tito Ortiz vs Forrest Griffin Rematch is also rumored to be on that card.

The month of April has 6 mma events including 2 pride and 2 ufc PPV's in the same month. MMA is getting bigger and bigger i love this more than one PPV a month.

Hermes Franca apparently is next in line for a title shot at 155.

New poll up soon

Don't suppose you know how far in advance tickets go on sale for the UFC, I haven't seen anything for the Manchester event but I HAVE to get there. Bisping, Tito, Forrest, Cro Cop and Kongo, all pretty exciting fighters!

I hear what you're saying about having to go. When the UFC comes to Montreal im gonna for sure try and get tickets. I've always wondered what it would be like to watch a UFC event live

Who gets a title shot first?

Cro Cop is fighting at UFC 70, not a ttitle shot (Probably Cheik Kongo.)
Diego is fighting Koscheck at UFC 69.
Rampage said he needs another warmup match.

Chuck Liddell is fighting at UFC 71, opponent is TBA, and Jardine just beat the guy that was probably next in line for a title shot. Rashad could possibly get the shot, but I doubt it.

Jardine.

Tyson Griffin got screwed IMO. One judge had it scored 30-27 theres noway in hell he lost every round. I had it even 1-1 after the first 2 than in the 3rd round he got jacked in hte nuts and the ref didnt do nothing. After getting his nut smashed he still had one of hte most vicious knee bars I've ever saw. Screw job imo. Edgar did good though, They need a rematch.

Whoever didn't see this fight, make a point to watch it. I was a little surprised by the decision too. That kneebar was just ridiculous, he's a freak.

Terry Martin is also a beast and hits HARD. I dont think hes any threat to the title but I see some KO's from him coming soon. Id like to see him vs Chris Leben. Just to see leben get his head smashed.
Man, I don't know. Didn't he drop two weight classes from where he was fighting? He's still young too, he'd have a punchers chance against anyone. LOL @ the Leben fight, that would be a joke I'd pay top dollar to hear the punchline to.

I think it'll come down to rather Diego (assuming he wins) or Matt gets the next title shot. It would be nice if they'd be on the same card when Cro Cop gets his shot.

Actually after reading your layout there, you might be right in saying Jardine. He's not even close to being ready, but who else would it be at 71?

Look at me post whoring.....just a lot of stuff to go over.

Main Card Bouts:
-Tim Sylvia (#5 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Randy Couture (This will get ugly)
-Matt Hughes (#2 Welterweight)* vs. Chris Lytle (Why?)
-Rich Franklin (#5 Middleweight)* vs. Jason MacDonald (I called this one after J-Macs last win, but I think Rich will give him a solid beating to the face)
-Renato "Babalu" Sobral (#6 Light Heavyweight)* vs. Jason Lambert (again, why?)
-Martin Kampmann vs. Drew McFedries (I'm not hardcore enough to care)

What a horrible card, I probably won't even be seeing this one live.

Better than Jardine.

I don't know about that, I'd like to see Rampage have another tune up before this fight, Rampage looked a little leggy and rusty again "the beastman". Maybe Jardine vs Rampage in an eliminator.

Theres an MMA event on tonight if anyone is interested, its a new company that is having there first event. Im pretty sure it's on Showtime in the US and it's on The Fight Network in Canada.

The main event is Frank Shamrock vs. one of the Gracies. David Loiseau is also fighting in the event and I forget the others but theres a few more recognizable names fighting in the event. It's starts at 10:30

It's Elite XC and has 4 solid fights on, sadly I don't have Showtime so I couldn't see it. Heading off to look at the results now.

Watched the EXC event. They played the prelims on proelite.com, and mma-tv.net had the main card streaming live, so I saw all 10 fights.

Gina Carano vs. Julie Kedzie was the fight of the night. If I wasn't already convinced, I definately am now, womens MMA is great. Oh, and Gina is freaking hot.

Also, Frank Shamrock is a classless punk, pure and simple. Renzo was beating him, Frank kneed him in the head twice while they were on the ground and got DQ'ed. Personally I think he was trying to get a NC, but the knees were ruled intentional. Then in the interview he's trying to pass it off like he didn't know the rules and "he thought they were there to fight" basically rippng on Renzo.

Overall it was a very good show, but they need to do away with Bill Goldberg...Mauro Ranallo and Jay Glazer would be a good team, they don't need a 3rd wheel that knows jack and says stupid crap like "concussions don't matter."

I couldn't agree more, the things he said after the fight were just flat out stupid. I was surprised one of the Gracie's didn't confront him about the things he said.

Trash talking is a big part of any competitive sport and no fight on the Elite XC debut card had more jaw jacking than the bout between Hawaii’s KJ Noons and the always entertaining Charles “Crazy Horse” Bennett. A feeling out period left the crowd wondering if the two warriors were going to ever engage but soon after the stand-up war ensued. Noons landed some good leg kicks that seemed to slow Bennett down at points but it was the thunderous right hand from “Crazy Horse” that ended the fight. The enormous shot was followed up with a few more punches before the referee stepped in declaring Charles “Crazy Horse” Bennett the winner at 3:43 in the 1st round by knockout. - from MMAweekly
He's not for everyone, but he has a new fan. He's like watching NASCAR for the wrecks. The guy doesn't even train or he might be very dangerous. Some of the things he says leaves you thinking, "what did he just say"? These aren't verbatim but:

Q: Why did you stop doing drugs?
A: Gf put me in jail.

Q: If not fighting, how would you earn your money?
A: Rob and steal.

Q: Is the story about you and Wand true?
A: Yes. In the locker room, he was talking smack and I kept smiling at him. He swung on on me and 3 minutes later I woke up to kicks. I got up and knocked him out. I put his ass to sleep. I went outside and started laughing until he woke up to come find me. I said you just got knocked out, and then I ran away.

Well it looks like Rampage is getting the first title shot on the poll. A little pre mature IMO

A fight that im really interested in seeing next is Melvin Guillard vs Joe Stevenson. This will be on the next Ultimate fight night and it should be a war. Im going with Melvin if it stays standing but if Joe Daddy can get him on the ground and keep him there he should win easily. Should be a great match.

WOW! that is all I can say. AWESOME Pride ppv tonight. The whole thing was amazing. All kinds of crazy outcomes.

Joachim Hansen had a good come back win against Jason Ireland.

Frank Trigg beats Kazou Misaki in what one would call an upset

Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou KO's Antonio Rogerio Nogueira quickly in a HUGE upset.

Hayato Sakurai destroyed Mac Danzig (no suprise there)

Shogun finished Allistair Overeem off pretty quickly, I expected Shogun to win but I though Overeem would put up a little bit more of a fight.

NICK DIAZ beat the hell out of Takanori Gomi! HUGE UPSET that I predicted moments before the fight (sarf as my witness), Diaz came to pride and took out one of their Top P4P guys. Amazing fight so exciting.

Dan Henderson got his 2nd belt after defeating Wanderlei Silva, Awesome fight, Dan Henderson controlled most of the fight. Im happy to see one of my favorite fighters destroy top competition. Hendo has been severly underrated by a lot of people and a lot of MMA sites. He showed tonight hes an Elite fighter in the game. Hendo said he possibly wants a 3rd belt and he made sure tos ay he couldnt make LW. SO that means a possible Hendo vs Fedor coming up. Cant wait to see that happen.

Great PPV overall.

I thought wanderlei's chin was stronger, i guess if he went against liddell, it'd be the same outcome.I wouldnt be so quick to say this. Dan Henderson is a world class wrestler and getting Wandy on the ground and just laying on him took alot out of Wandy. I think wandy was pretty tired when he got KOed . Liddell would not be able to get Wandy down and keep him there so long. There were times in the fight where Wandy almost KOed Hendo but Hendo weathered the storm. I think that if Liddell was in there he wouldnt be able to use takedowns to take away energy from Wandy. This would give Wandy more oppurtunity to eventually land one of his crazy Flurries and possible change the entire fight.

I also have read alot of "Wandy didnt have his roids because it was in America" talk. So that could be something else to look into because Wandy defintely didnt have the viciousness he usually has.

Pride 33 was great. First time I've seen a Pride PPV.

Diaz's gogoplata was just perfect. I hate Diaz and I wanted Gomi to win, but man that was impressive. I think Pride's LW division is overrated, especially Gomi. Once the UFC gets their LW division really rolling, all the top 10 lists will be filled with UFC guys and Melendez.

Great to see Trigg win again, I did pick him to win that fight but I wasn't sure he could actually do it.

Dan was hanging with Silva standing, and then wore him out on the ground, then KOed him. Silva/Liddell would be a great fight (which won't happen now) but I think it would end with Liddell getting the knockout.

A couple rndom observations:
Jerry Millen, the blonde guy that does the post fight interviews is a douchebag. He needs to go fast. "This is why Pride is the #1 MMA organization in the world." great timing on that quote...right after a guy comes over from the UFC and demolishes their LW champion. (Of course we all know Gomi wouldn't be champ if he ever had to defend his belt.)

Josh Barnett said after Silva got knocked out, "I can't remember the last time he was knocked out." This is what, 5 months after he got knocked out by Cro Cop?

The second half of this show will never be deleted from my computer. There were times in the Gomi-Diaz fight that I thought it had to be fake. That fight looked like a movie, simply amazing and has to be the huge front runner for fight of the year.

Say what you want about me, but I seriously don't think Wandy is the same without roid rage. I'm not just talking about the fight, but everything about him seemed different. In the US, Chuck would also knock him out. I don't buy the Dana and the UFC were running from Wandy crap. That said, I doubt they want anything to do with Shogun.

What is it with everybody wanting to fight heavyweight? Lindland against Fedor, Hendo against Fedor, I don't get it. I think it's stupid, I'd like to see Fedor fight other heavyweights.....is that so wrong?

Now we go from one of the greatest shows ever to the snoozefest that is UFC 68.

UK fan, about how many dollars is L250? Sorry, I don't know how to make your currency symbol. You guys are lucky, I would suggest saving your pennies and going to that show.

It's definitely the best UFC show on paper that I can remember in recent history. Absolutely stacked with big names and good match-ups. Only thing that sucks is that there is no Championship match, which is ok because it would probably suck anyway (see GSP-Serra, Couture-Sylvia).

Copy-paste action from MMAweekly:
UFC 70: APRIL 21, 2007 IN MANCHESTER, ENGLAND AT M.E.N. ARENA

-Mirko Cro Cop (#2 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Gabriel Gonzaga - Gonzaga is way better than Sanchez and shouldn't run as much. Fairly good chance for highlight reel material.

-Andrei Arlovski (#6 Heavyweight in the World)* vs. Fabricio Werdum (#7 Heavyweight in the World) - Look at the UFC HW division go, the next top signing will make it the top promoter.

-Ryoto Machida vs. Forrest Griffin - This is my Gomi-Diaz fight (the one I'm most looking foward to). I know it's not the cool thing to say, but Forrest is one of my favorite fighters. If he can pull this off, he's right back near the top of the UFC LHW division. Machida will be the favorite and the newest star in MMA if he wins.

-Michael Bisping vs. Elvis Sinosic - Making the fans happy.

-Assuerio Silva vs. Cheick Kongo - I think this is actually part of the undercard, hopefully they will show it.

Machida will upset Griffin (not really an upset but it will seem like one to casual fans)

Kongo and Silva should be a slug fest.

AA vs Werdum is awesome. Werdum is a beast he will sub AA IMO I knew that when Cro Cop came over Werdum would end up following (they train together) I am suprised they are putting him against a top teir guy so quickly, I figured they would feed him some can first to build up momentum.

I would be really really surprised if Machida lost to Griffin. I think Dana was really impressed with Ryoto, so he's giving him a popular guy taht he will beat to build up his popularity (it worked for Jardine.)

I am also surprised they are putting AA vs. Werdum. Everyone wants to see AA vs. Cro Cop after Cro Cop knocks Sylvia out. They are risking that fight by putting Andrei against someone that stands a very good chance against him. If AA loses, they don't really have a good contender for Mirko (I don't know if Mirko and Werdum would fight eachother?)

I don't really care who Cro Cop fights once he wins the title. I doubt him and Werdum would fight, kind of like a Tito and Rampage thing.

I fully expect Werdum to beat AA, so I don't really know what the UFC plans to do. Maybe they haven't planned that far ahead.

The idea of Chuck moving up just popped into my head for Cro Cop after he wins the title.

Couture vs Sylvia will be a snooze fest. I was watching the preview yesterday and Dana was kind of clowning Sylvia for not finishing fights and always talking about knocking people out and never doing it. I think Sylvia might actually try to finish this fight.

I see Sylvia v Couture being similar to Sylvia v Monson, in that Sylvia will be worried about hitting the mat with Couture and so will attempt to pick at Couture from range, however I see Couture winning via GnP, just a gut feeling.

Defintely. Chuck would get picked apart. Cro Cop is such a technical striker and Chuck is the opposite he just throws out looping punches that if they hit will hurt you. But if he was fighting someone like CC and threw one of those Looping punches CC would throw one straight down the pipe and chuck would be on the canvas.

Bisping's response to Hamil after he called him out. I found it very funny.

"THE MATT FINISH"
You may have heard that a certain TUF 3 dropout was calling me out last week.

To be honest, I really didn’t want to respond because that plays right into his hands by whipping up interest in a fight that I believe is a big step backwards for me.

However, at the same time I don’t want anyone thinking I was afraid of this guy, either.

The fighter in question - I forget his name - is a good wrestler but has no BJJ and couldn’t strike a match. He’s the one who produced the most embarrassingly amateurish performance of the entire season, where even though he won he couldn’t continue in the competition as he was so bashed up.

Do you know who I’m on about? I can picture his face but still can’t remember his name but I remember personally sending this novice to the hospital with a busted arm and my mate Kendall Grove - a middleweight - knocked him silly with a high kick in sparring.

I also recall that he went to the hospital three times during TUF 3 and each time came back to the TUF house with his tail between his legs. He spent more time in bandages than King Tut.

But, now, he’s shouting my name in an obvious attempt to leap frog from his preliminary bout status to genuine PPV level.

Sorry, pal, I won the TUF 3 three-year contract, thank you very much, so I don’t need a part time job running your PR office on the side.

I’ve got a long way to go and a lot to prove in the UFC but - in terms of what I did during my TUF 3 run - I don’t think I’m being big-headed when I say my run to the TUF 3 title was pretty damn conclusive.

I scored three consecutive knockouts without a scratch on me while this guy calling me out had one fight that looked like two drunks scrapping outside a kebab shop on a Friday night.

For him to claim I’ve yet to prove I’m the real TUF 3 winner is pathetic."

Koscheck fought the perfect fight though. He was able to win the stand up battle with Diego easily, so he stayed on his feet. No need to take it to the ground where he could get subbed. HE could have pushed the pace more, but why? He was on his way to an easy decision that will possibly earn him a title shot, why risk it? Boring fight, yes, but Kos showed me a lot. Lauzon has some bad losses on his record, I think his win over Pulver may have been a huge fluke (thats coming from a guy who hates Pulver). He is still a favorite tho along with Diaz. The really tall guy has to be a favorite as well. A 6 foot 4 LW is absolutely insane. If he has good striking and takedown defense at all, he is a damn near impossible guy to fight.

The most RIDICULOUS decision Ive ever seen a sports commission make, this absolutely disgusting and stupid. Nick Diaz, on top of being fined 20% of his purse and getting handed a 6 month suspension, has now had his win over Takanori Gomi stripped by the NSAC.

The chairmen of the NSAC stated that using marijuana aided Diaz in winning a FIGHT and he believed Diaz was high DURING the fight and that is the reason he won.

Tim Sylvia didnt even have his win stripped after testing positive for steroids. Absolutely effing stupid.

Judging by that, he did touch it, but he didn't use it as leverage. The ref saw it and took his hand off it.

Judging by that, he did touch it, but he didn't use it as leverage. The ref saw it and took his hand off it.

Fighters grab on ropes all the time without being DQ'ed. The only people that are saying that Fedor cheated are the Anti-Russian homers who would LOVE to see him fail.

He didnt really cheat because it was just reaction, but it did aid him in the reversal of the takedown. The ref didnt even slap his hand away until it was too late.

BIG upps to Lindland though, he's one of my favorite fighters and opened a serious gash over Fedors eye. Lindland throws punches from the weirdest angles, people have a difficult time warding off his crazy punches.

They are trying to give the outside world a face to recongnize(sp) in the MMA world, so they are going with a guy people could see and go, oh yeah, he is the best MMA fighter in the world. Mainstream doesn't know who the ICEMAN is but it sounds like he could be something to watch.

He might not be the best, but he can draw more people due to his name and make the sport bigger, like kornikova(sp) did for women's tennis. Just is a set up name until you watch it enough to find out who you want to win and be your favorite guy.

I'm talking about the first punch that sent him to he ground. He left himself wide open on that body shot. Bring that left hand over to cover your face.

I'm a black belt in martial arts and the first thing you're taught is once you punch, you retract it cover up immediately. You don't leave your face wide open like that. That knockout should've never happened IMO. Horrible technique by Lidell.

One of my personal favorite fighters and I guy who I feel gets lost in the WW title picture. He never got his shot at the title due to that injury and I think its time Karo gets some respect. The loss to Diego really could have went anyway and I think the losing of some teeth may have swayed the judges slightly. Karo is a beast and the craziest part about it is hes only 24 years old. He will be a serious contender for the WW title for years and years. His world class Judo can be absolutely unstoppable at times and his stand up has improved so much since the first time I saw Karo fight, with a little bit more work on his stand up Karo could quite possibly have one of the most well rounded games at 170 if not in all of MMA.
