Michael Smith reports the Niners and the Seahawks are near the close of a deal that would send Darrell Jackson to the 49ers for the 124 overall selection...

The 49ers are looking more and more competitive week by week this offseason, especially with this steal of a trade, and from thier biggest competition in the NFC west. Anyone else think the Niners will be a force in the NFC this fall?

wow, 2 division rivals making a trade. you dont see that happen often. but yea its whatever seattle got jipped IMO, especially in this weak draft class.

If he can stay healthy, he will be good.

Great trade by the Seahawks to get a very good veteran reciever, who knows how to get to the endzone, he should help alex smith a lot. ALthough his hands are suspect

Even trade; Seahwaks need the picks and have depth at wideout and the Niners need a wide receiver

Seattle got the best of them. Jackson sucks and this draft is espically deep at wr.

i think they were going to cut him anyways with his injuries and his large contract etc.

ya the health issues are probably what Seattle used to justify themselves in letting him go... but this pickup for the Niners is pretty much further evidence that they are going go with defense in the 1st rd. whether Its LB (Willis) or DL (Carriker, Branch maybe).

Steal for the niners. If he's healthy he's an upper echelon reciever

I'd watch out for the Niners this year. They have weapons at every offensive position now.

Carriker is the pick. They need a true 3-4 DE.

Jackson, a top 15 WR on Scott's list, being traded for the 124th overall pick. Yikes.

If true (not on KFFL) then it's a solid trade for both, but the division rival thing surprises me.

For a 4th rounder . . . this is a steal.

We need a solid NFL WR. A raw rook is not likely to help a lot when they want playoffs this year.

agreed what do you lose by giving up pick 124 ?

The Seahawks have done a lot of dumb things lately. Giving assloads of money to Patrick Kerney and Grant Winstrom, not tagging Hutchison, trading their best WR for a 2nd day pick, Mike Holmgren is saving that franchise from getting a whole hell of a lot more criticism.

I don't know. This is an odd trade. A 4th rounder for D Jack. St Louis trade a 5th rounder for D.Hall and D.Jack is a much more superior receiver than D hall.

Good move for the 49ers, especially since they had four 4th rounders anyways.

Great trade by San Francisco. An absolutely terrific job done by Mike Nolan & Co. the past few seasons into really building the 49ers into a contender once again.

One way to look at this trade from an SF perspective:

The 124 pick is what the team received in the Kevan Barlow trade. Essentially, this is a Barlow for Jackson deal. Just points out, yet again, that the Niners have been making some very nice moves recently, IMO (assuming this report proves true).

We never were an option, despite what some people may say. Nolan values the draft too much. Unless im mistaken, this is the first time he has traded a draft pick away for a player.

And i like this deal a lot. Not only a 4th, but our last 4th (excluding compensatory pick). I love this deal. Its pending physical though...lets see what happens at the physical.

Not taking into account the fact that future picks have a decreased value becuase they are prorated. But yes, both were good trades.

Holy smokes, a 4th round pick for Darrell Jackson? Steal of the Draft imo.

49ers | Working on deal to acquire Jackson from Seattle
Fri, 27 Apr 2007 21:27:01 -0700

Michael Smith, of ESPN.com, reports the San Francisco 49ers are working on a trade with the Seattle Seahawks to acquire WR Darrell Jackson in exchange for one of the 49ers' fourth-round draft choices, believed to be the team's third selection (No. 124 overall) in the round. The deal is contingent on Jackson passing a physical Saturday, April 28.

Yeah, but only in the case of the 9ers is a physical scheduled. If he passes, it's as good as done, I'd say.

As long as Jackson stays healthy it is a very good deal for the 49ers. Jackson may have issues with injuries and drops but he still is a number 1 receiver and anytime you can pick up a number one receiver for a 4th round draft pick its not a bad idea.

Not bad for Seattle since they get rid of his contract for the future which will help in the future when the heavy free agent contracts start to squeeze then against the cap. Best to get something now rather then nothing later, since they already have Branch to fill the number 1 next year.

Best thing the niners did on Day 2. DJax should be our #1 guy we have been missing. Jason Hill should be our #2 and Lelie/Battle #3.

LOL at putting a 3rd round rookie WR ahead of Battle and Lelie.

Getting 10 tds and close to 1,000 yards (he missed like 3 games) for a 4th rounder. Health issues aside, how is this a good deal for the Hawks again? Loosing your top reciever for a late 4th isnt a good move anyway you put it.

Lelie flat out sucks and although I like Battle, I think Hill has more potential. It will end up Being #1-DJax, #2-Battle, #3-Hill/Lelie

Good move, the 49ers got the better end of the deal. We have seen what DJ can do he is a very good explosive reciever and can get the job done.

From what I've read, it sounds like Hill and Lelie will be competing for the X position with D-Jack and Battle competing for the Z position. My bet is D-Jack and Lelie start the season, but Hill takes over the X midway through the year. Like I said on the 49ers board, this would allow Battle to play to his strengths as a slot receiver and return man. Very nice trade IMO. After drafting Willis, this is the best thing the Niners did in the draft-- the cost for a top 20 WR was just absurdly low here.
