mat - just an fyi...Free will likely be heading the future LT position. Depending on how McQ's TC goes...if he can't outplay Free he'll be moving inside. Marten is our swing tackle now...with the versatility to start inside if needed.

no way a seventh round pick starts as nickel corner. It will be Glenn

Exactly... his measurables may look nice but, realisticly he was a 7th rounder... there is no gurantee he even makes the team.

I think that in an attacking scheme Spears will absolutly flourish and become the star on the d-line.

Stanback will probably be our PR given his foot is healed.

Obviously Glenn will play the nickel.

We may have to keep 6 Wr this year...Owens, Glenn, Crayton, Hurd, Austin, Stanback.

I'm not so sure Ellis will be healthy....he'll probably be playing but, dont expect the player we had last season, in most cases it takes 2 years for that injury to fully heal and thats for a younger player.... Ellis is not a guarantee.

Imo, McQuistan will be on practice squad, I don't think we'll carry 5 OT. One of Sam Hurd or Miles Austin will be on practice squad too, I think this one is gonna be Hurd, Austin has more potential.

OMG, you guys are absolutely going nuts ...

1) Stanback is not playing WR. If he is being "transitioned" then maybe special teams.

2) Miles Austin is heads and tails better than Stanbeck at WR or even KR.

3) Crayton and Hurd or identical. Slow but adequate slot receivers. Not sure why people think we have much depth at WR.

4) Deon Anderson won't even make the team. Maybe 1 of the 2 7th round corners.

5) Spencer will be used like Mark Anderson and WILL NOT START. I can see Ellis and Burnett taking most of the snaps moving around with Ware.

6) Carpenter may finally be moved inside though.

7) Nick Folk will need to beat out Gramatica or will not make the team.

8) Elam will beat out Davis. Questionable if Hamlin + Roy can cover a ham sandwhich. WE HAVE HORRID SAFETIES and will lose a few games because of this.

9) Neither Free nor Marten will beat out McQuistan. McQuistan is as good an athlete as either and has 1 year on the pups.

10) Glen is our Nickel. If you think Brown and Stick Man are beating out Jacque Reeves and Nate Jones you are smoking dope. The Dime and Quarter CBs will stay there unless we get injuries.

The starting line up is UNCHANGED other than the FA. Not one rookie will contribute in any meaningful way outside of MAYBE Spencer assuming he can outplay Burnett and Ellis (good luck Rook).

McQuistan is as much an athlete as Free or Marten. He also has 1 year in the program. I love the two T picks but they will need to sit, lift weights and learn.

Regardless, I like the three guys we have drafted over the last 2 drafts at Tackle. Big White Dudes, Not too Early, Need the Money, Should work hard.

How can you say Deon anderson won't make the team...is it because we are talking about moving hoyte back to defense...or that we waited forever to tender Polite....please...Anderson has the best chance of the three to make the team. With the reports on Hoyte...I think your the one smoking.

Another report you must have missed...is Ellis is reported to take a lesser role because of the addition of Spencer. I'm not one to say he will start...but he will be playing about 50% of the snaps. that is per kffl

I'm also pretty sure that our FO came out and said Folk would be our KOS and our pinch Punter...and will have a chance to win the kicking job as well...don't see where your basis comes in on him having to win the kicking job to make the team.

McQ will be moved inside per Jerry at the press conference...but once again...post opinionated comments...after all those are the easiest.

I've said that because last year the coaching staff seemed so high on Petitti and then he got cut. Maybe Proctor will back up Gurode and McQuistan will be the third guard on roster?

robert, Jerry said that Stanback will play WR. He played the position his first year at Washington and in high school.
And yes, I think Spencer will start. Ellis is coming off a MAJOR injury and he's like 32. If Spencer won't start day 1, he will be starter down the road, like Merriman was for the Chargers.

And Hamlin in 2005 was one of the best cover safeties, with a good pass rush I think he will be a valuable FS.

Just projecting guys -- what the future brings I dunno.

I hope we do well but I have deep concerns over the player personnel strategy.

We are back in to the late 90s taking "interesting players" that do not fit an over all strategy.

So, for example .... which 8 are we keeping from this lot ...

Colombo
Flozell
Kosier
Davis
Gurode
McQuistan
Berger
Proctor
Free
Marten

2 need practice squad.

robert_in_bigd
04-30-2007, 12:38 PM
And which 7 from this lots

Ellis
Carpenter
Ayodele
Glymph
Burnett
Ware
James
Spencer
Singleton

2 to the practice squad. 3 to the bench.

Actually we'll keep 8 LB's active on game day and 9 on the roster.

Ellis, Carpenter, Ayodele, Burnett, Ware, Spencer, James, Singleton, with Glymph inactive or Skaldi or some other guy inactive.

And which 8 from here

Henry
Williams
Elam
Davis
Newman
Reeves
Jones
Watkins
Hamlin
Glenn
Brown
Skinny Dude

2 to the practice squad (or is it already full b/c 1 spot for QB) and 2 get cut.

Lotta money on the bench don't ya think? 8 active maybe much unless you subtract out a DE from the active roster.

My math wrong? 6(DL)-7(LB)-8(DB) active roster for the D?

21 O
21 D
1 Long Snapper
1 Kicker
1 Punter.

8 OL, 2 QB, 4 RB, 5 WR, 2 TE active roster for the O.

..... and if we keep two kickers -- gotta drop someone .........

45 Active?
7 or 8 Practice Squad?

Either way if all the rookies make it (as folks are projecting) except 1 CB and 1 OL goes to the Practice Squad then ..... the following guys are effectively at risk of making the active squad and we only have 8 PS spots so .......

Berger, McQuistan (Pick 1 asumming only 1 rook is active roster.)
Reeves, Jones (Pick 1. 2 if we cut Glenn.)
Elam, Davis, Watkins (Pick 1, replaced by Hamlin. Maybe PS player.)
Ellis, Glymph, Singleton (pick 2, replaced by a rookie an one to PS)
Polite and Hoyt (replaced by a rookie)
Gramatica (replaced by a rookie)
Hurd or Austin (replaced by Stanback allegedly)

Be cool!

1). It is 53 man roster plus 10 PS.
2). We don't have Singleton any more
3). Before the draft we have 6 players that can play OT, but we add 2 more.
4) We sort of need to draft a C and OG, but noting happen.
5). It is funny that we have to cut one of OT last year because we can not afford to keep them all. It looks like will happen again.
6). Maybe Stanley is better than any NT in this draft after all?

The 'money' on the bench doesn't matter as long as you are under the cap.

Also, you will have more Defense players on the roster than offensive, it's not split equally.

The 53 Man roster will have

2 QB
2 RB
1 FB
2 TE
7 OL
5 WR

6 DL
8 LB
8 DB

LS
K
P
KOS

With 8 players inactive (1QB, 1 RB, 2 OL, 1 LB, 1 FB, 1 DB, and 1 Wildcard spot)

Maybe one less DB or WR and 1 more RB if the RB returns kicks like Tyson, maybe not.

We need a PR IMO. We don't have one. I don' want to risk Newman back there, and it just tires h im out more and gives him more responsibility. And Crayton isn't fast enough to do it. I would have loved Yamon Figurs in the later rounds, but Baltimore made a crazy reach with him in the 3rd. I wouldn't mind Stanback back there...We will have to wait and see...
