too late to think for me but off the top of my head i'm thinking LT. i have little faith in gandy holding up through the season let alone the playoffs (i'm being optimistic). hopefully ojinnaka can bulk up because i would hate to see omiyale start.

hopefully j-dub will make the move to free safety. i'm wondering if the falcons threw a smokescreen before the draft announcing j-dub as their starting corner. if so, they fooled a lot of mock drafters.

Secondary (all positions), LB and DL (need ends & tackles).

Safety only now. We have plenty of CBs now, finally enough to get rid of Webster and Rossy.

The only position on the team I am worried about is Offensive Tackle. Because I have no idea what to expect, if Ojinnaka or Omiyale have to come in and play.

I would love to see Omiyale beat out Gandy and play like a pro bowler in a scheme that he is actually suited for and if he is around the weight I think he is around (325) because of being allowed to eat and if he still has the same quickness and pass pro, he should be fine for us at LT. add in Blalock at LG and this OL gets a lot better overnight:

LT - Omiyale - 6'4" 325
LG - Blalock - 6'4" 320
C - McClure - 6'2" 290
RG - Forney - 6'3" 315
RT - Weiner - 6'5" 305
that is realistc hts and weights for everyone.

Blalock did play tackle at Texas, he's kinda slow, but do you think that he may be penciled in at the LT position?
Then it could look something like this:
LT - Blalock - 6'4" 320
LG - Fonoti - 6'4" 360 ?
C - McClure - 6'2" 290
RG - Forney - 6'3" 315
RT - Weiner - 6'5" 305

Try running behind that left side?

Blalock cannot play Left Tackle. He could play RT in a pinch.

He is a Guard specifically for us according to Petrino.

Nope, no way is Blalock a LT. He might eventually replace Weiner; at least he'll get a couple of years to adjust to NFL speed, maybe then he'll be able to handle RT.

One possible scenario in which Blalock might play at LT would be in goal-line situations, where it's obvious that we're going to pound it (or bluff...). We'd push Blalock to LT, and pinch hit with Fonoti at LG. Forney pulls over from his RG slot. Behind them comes Mughelli, then a power RB, either Snelling or a FA. That would take some stopping, however predictable.

We have a Left Handed QB which LT would be his front side, why would it be difficult for him? He played front side in Texas' offense at the RT. I was just throwing it out there. Its always a possibility. Back side Tackle is the more difficult, in the Falcons case would be RT.

It's actually something of a fallacy that LT is easier when you have a LH QB. The CONSEQUENCES of a breakdown in protection are less severe, because the QB can see it and shouldn't fumble the ball. However, the chances of a breakdown are not smaller. Even against a LH QB, most of the elite passrushers will still line up at RDE. The LT has to face these speed rushers, and I would be amazed (but thrilled) if Blalock were able to handle that.

He'll be an elite guard, and may even make a very good RT eventually, but I doubt that he can handle LT.

Blalock is a Guard, through and through. He doesn't have the height, or length, to play outside.

yup. and if Fonoti somehow wins a job,I wouldn't lose sleep.

There isn't a job for Fonoti to win I hope...with Forney on the RG spot and Blalock on the LG spot and McClure at C and Weiner at RT...looks like we've got it locked up everywhere but LT.

Forney is coming off shoulder surgery. I won't mind having a big body to play behind him.

Shoulder injuries are very hard on the OL. If he isn't completely recovered he may have a hard time winning the job.
