Ipod help

I'm trying to delete some songs off my Ipod but this new software (version 1.3.1)is giving me trouble. I have my Ipod plugged in to my computer, I get to the screen that has all the songs my Ipod is holding but there's a little "locked" symbol on the bottom right next to where it tells me how much space I have and I can't do anything.

Any help?
