Let's begin the greatest debate in next year's draft. Who is the better OL, Baker or Long.

Jake Long, Baker is overrated because of his athleticism. Long is the guy I would want on my team, he's nasty.

On a different note, why do so many people make easy "pick one" question threads with no poll?

I am going to have to say Long b/c with what I've seen from Baker I haven't been overly impressed

I think you left out a word between "say" and "b/c".

Yes, in my opinion. Seemingly you have a different one, which is fine. Apparently your opinion matters more than mine does.

Here's how I grade them.

1. Jared Gaither
2. Jake Long
3. Sam Baker
4. Barry Richardson

Gaither did nothing last year to even be mentioned with Long and Baker.

As for Long vs Baker, I want my OTs to be elite pass blockers, and I don't see that in Long right now. Baker does seem like he can be a top notch pass blocker though. Neither are with Joe Thomas or D'Brickashaw Ferguson though.

What do ya mean, funny? Let me understand this cause, I don't know maybe it's me, but I'm funny how? I mean, funny like I'm a clown, I amuse you? I make you laugh?

No just kidding, it's cool.

I think Long is the best OT in next years class, he has the strength to dominate in the NFL the way he does in the Big 10. I would rank next years OT's like this-

1. Jake Long, Mich
2. Sam Baker, USC
3. Jared Gaither*, Mary (based off athleticism, only thing that has him here yet)
4. Barry Richardson, Clem
5. Mike Oher*, Ole Miss (could play guard too)
6. Gosder Cherilus, BC
7. Kirk Barton, OSU
8. Pedro Sosa, Rugers
9. Tony Hills Jr., Texas (has athleticism to shoot up like Gaither)
10. Alex Boone OSU*

I need to see more of Barry Richardson before I feel comfortable making a statement on him, and until Gaither becomes the best linemen in this draft I'd like to see him first become the best one on his team.

Both have their positives and negatives. Baker isn't an elite run blocker, but outside of a terrible UCLA game he was probably the most reliable pass blocker in college football last year. Long has dominating strength and size, but his kick step always seems to come late, his arms aren't the longest, and he seems very susceptible to a few good moves.

I think Long may be a RT at the pro level, and I know that Baker is a LT. That means Baker is the winner, at least for now.

Depends on what I'm looking for. I'm not sold on Jake as a LT ... but I'd easily take him over Baker at RT. I really like Baker, though. Still got work to do, but I like him. We'll see how his senior year goes.

4. Barry Richardson

WOOHOO !!!!!!

Jared Gaither = Mountain

He is an absolute BEAST and is not a sloth... the guy is an athlete was a BIG TIME Basketball prospect that turned to Football his Sr year in HS and then went to UMD. He is going to be a stud in the NFL when he comes out.. he actually has 2 more years of eligibility left. What would have been his freshman year he went to a prep school to get his grades in line and gain another year of playing experience on a smaller scale. He started his 1st year at MD and gave up NO sacks all year...

What did Gaither do on the field last year to warrant being rated anywhere near Baker or Long?

Baker is as polished a LT as you can get. He's a 4 year starter for SC which says alot.

You realize that Maryland wasnt ever starting him last year. Obviously his coaches don't think hes a capable blocker.

I'm still standing by my statement that I made back in September...I'll take Long over Joe Thomas, let alone Sam Baker whom I think is overrated right now.
