I was reading the team page on Fox sports today, and they made it seem like the Steelers really want to keep Faneca. I hope it is true.

true but, if he gets his act together and plays pro bowl football all these problems will be non existence

I almost feel like he's going turncoat on the organization just because the guy he wanted as coach didnt get the job. He's being as close-minded as some of the people on these boards by not being open to the new coach. Its really quite sad because he seemed to be the epitome of a "Steelers kind of guy" who cares more about the game and his team than how much money he's making and who's in charge. I would have expected it from some other guys before Faneca.

I have to disagree. He was asked his opinion and he's always given it, and been blunt.

"Are you excited to be playing with a Rookie QB" - Reporter
"No, would anyone?" - Faneca

The media is starved for Steelers material because honestly, we're the biggest fan-base and the most die-hard fans. This offseason there wasn't a lot of material because, no one knows how to talk and get nuggets of info from Tomlin like they did Cowher.

Frankly I think it's been in their plans all along to re-sign Faneca, and I think they'll still have plenty to re-sign Ben and Troy.

When you think about it. Next season...

We'll lose Tuman, Haggans, Wilson... this year we're cutting Gardocki and probably Okobi. Simmons probably will be looking for a new team after this season...

thats a lot of Veteran cuts that's going to give us a good amount of cap room..

Not to mention if we drop Kirschke, Kriedwaldt...

That will leave us with a lot of money to sign guys long-term.

I hope your right. It sounds logical can anyone figure out how much cap money we would have if we cut all these guys.

I we do cut them...their all awfull

if faneca wants to be a steeler next year he will be

Faneca is a true Steeler. Tough, plays every down. Never gets hurt. Calls people out when they need it, and very loyal. That is where the problem comes in. He is/was loyal to his coaches. They didn't get the promotion. It bothers him, and it should. We all get mad when highly thought off ass. coaches leave. But yet, when it came time to hire a new head coach, we went outside the org. Why would any coach, who wants to be a head coach stay? History says the Steelers will not hire you.
Besides, the Cards are having a much better off season than we are.

sometimes thats good. I mean, When Noll came in.. he fired everyone and built his team. Cowher did the same thing on some levels. Tomlin kept the defense mostly intact, and promoted Arians. I can understand his frustration. But this is how the steelers FO brought this team from the laughing stock of the league to an every year contender.

The Cards had a pretty bad offseason in my opinion.

They signed Morey, Bailey and Gandy. They reached for Levi Brown, traded up for Alan Branch... then they drafted a way undersized and weak MLB, a slow KR Specialist, and Ben Patrick....

I don't mind the coaches that wanted to be head coaches leaving. Thats unnecessary tension between the Head Coach and that coach... Frankly.. As much as I liked Whiz.. They don't like offensive minded coaches at the helm, and Russ Grimm, though I liked him, he never really developed any talent.

That undersized LB is BIGGER than Timmons! Brown and Branch will be multi time Pro Bowlers. The same can't be said for Timmons and Woodley. Breaston is a great return man. But he is a bad WR. Funny how that happens though..... Patrick is a 7th round steal. He is about equal to Spaeth. Morey was our ST captain, now he will help the Cards. Plus they hired 2 good coaches, and we don't know. Tomlin may be good, but Arains Sucks!

Arians sucks because he's different.

Buster Davis is 5'10 240lbs, Timmons is 6'1 235lbs... depends on your definition of Bigger.

Brown and Branch aren't a lock for Pro-bowls yet, because frankly... Woodley Abused Brown at PSU, and frankly, we can't give rookies a pro-bowl future if they haven't even had a solid NFL Season yet (Robert Gallery? Tony Mandarich?). Breaston is a solid return man, but agreed, a bad WR.. Patrick is no where near on the same level as Spaeth or he would've been taken in the 3rd as well. Patrick was overhyped right before the draft because I remember we all had him in the 6th/7th round of our mocks until the last month he suddenly skyrocketed to day 1... Matt Spaeth was hands down the best blocker in this draft. He's 6'7 270... Patrick is 6'3 260.. he's not nearly the red zone threat and he's not on Spaeths level as a blocker.

Again, Woodley didn't play against Brown. Brown was PSU's LT, Woodley was Michigan's LDE. Woodley played aginst avery teams weaker pass blocking T, the RT. Biggs was the RDE for Michigan last year. He is the one who went up against Thomas, Staley, Brown, Boone, etc.......... The only good T's that Woodley played against were Same Young of ND(a true freshman) and Barton of OSU.

Arains sucks, becvause he is a bad coach with bad ideas. He wants to run more 4 and 5 Wr sets, with Ben under C. Not out of the Shotgun. He was a terrible OC for Cleveland, and he thinks Simmons will be a great C. All 3 of those ideas/thoughts are bad.

no.. woodley was on both sides of michigans defense trhoughout his career

and arizonas off season hasnt been that great... who cares about a special teams 'ace'? thats like saying your the smartest person to fail a grade 3 times... plus we already got come special teams 'aces' back in chidi imuoma, also harrison will be contrbuting to ST as well as timmons and smith still..

Sorry Mike, but I watch every Michigan game. There is no more loyal Michigan fan around than me. Hell, I am one of the few Carr fans left. Woodley played 95% of the plays at LDE. Every game for the last 4 years, it has been the same. The only time he would go to the right side, is the few times we would go to a 3 man line. Then he would play the RDE, with Branch playing the LDE. He never stood up. He always had his hand on the ground.

i dont know if he had his hand on the ground for every play, but i just watched a highlight tape of him on youtube and he lined up on both sides

Key words "Highlight Tape". If you watched those you would be lead to believe that Quinn was an option QB.
I would like to get off the whole Woodley thing. I like the guy. He was a great player at Michigan. But, and here is the key point, from what I have seen, watching for the last 4 years, I don't think he can play LB. I hope he can. I would love nothing more than for him to turn into Kevin Greene. I just don't believe it will happen. But, untill all the new guys hit the feild, we don't know.

Mr. Stiller

When he was the OC of Cleveland they still had absolutely no talent.. No one has ever been a good Coach/Coordinator in cleveland, but they seem to do well when there's actually talent around... We have underrated WR's .. Sure we like to dog Ced Wilson, but Ced, Nate, Willie Reid, we have one of the best WR depths in the NFL.

The reasoning behind the offensive scheme change is so thats less LB's on the field.. Why you ask? Because Willie is not a power Runner, he's not going to bowl over the LB's... he needs the ability to hit the hole then turn on the burners... in a traditional I set that we employed before, there's 8-9 guys in the box, is it a surprise that Willie was stuffed? Spreading 4-5 Wideouts means that draws more openings for Willie.. Dumb idea indeed. The same offense that Brady and Manning run... which if I remember correctly are 2 of the most winningest franchises in the past say 5-7 years. We have good TE's, WR's and RB's now... we can utilize this offense that will play to our Strengths... not throw Willie Parker in the lineup and Run Jerome Bettis Plays..

As for Kendall moving to C, I haven't seen Arians say he'll make a great C.. but let me figure this out... He moved a ****** RG to C to compete for a job... Therefore giving someone else the RG job... Simmons will lose the C job ultimately to either Mahan, Phillip, Okobi... So by saying he loves the idea of moving Simmons to C, to compete, therefore upgrading the RG position and Creating competition for C, I think it's a damn good move. Simmons was the weak link on the line... and Arians removed him from the starting RG spot.. now he's working with the 4th team at C... they obviously are just hoping he does well, which we don't think he will..

So you're 3 points...

1) He sucked in cleveland - LeBeau sucked in Cincy with more talent, Show me 1 coach in the past 10-15 years who hasn't sucked in Cleveland.

2) He's running a more open offense - He's utilizing his players best attributes and playing to their strengths. Willie is a 4.3 guy, let's not use him as a 4.6 400lb battering ram like Jerome, lets spread the defense out and let them play Chase. We'll be passing out of 2 - TE sets. Alright, now we can actually utilize Heath Miller because we drafted Matt Spaeth to do all the blocking that Heath did, so now we have another offensive threat.

3) They took Kendall out of the starting Rotation at RG, moved him to center, to COMPETE for a starting Job. They removed by far the worst Olineman we have on our starting line.

I agree, Arians Reign has yielded nothing but disastrous results.

I'm not sure what he will play for us when all is said and done. I mean if we are talking about Kiesel playing LB in certain downs, then I think we have a more complex role for Woodley. Until I see how Woodley is used, I can't quite say that he is a bad fit/pick.

Mr. Stiller
05-08-2007, 09:02 PM
I think we're going to have such a flex defense that Troy and Timmons will both be roamers, Woodley will be a pass rusher, whether from Haggans spot.. or in a Kendrell Bell Role..

Aaron Smith, Ryan McBean give us interior Penetrating tackles.. Hampton and Hoke are solid NT's regardless of what formation.. Keisel will be a solid complete DE (Good against both the run and Pass)... Woodley will do that, as will Timmons on occasion.

I think this is giong to be a defensive dominated year... as usual.. but more so.. I'm excited to see if Timmons, Woodley, or Harrison(James) actually beat any notable tackles, Like ... Ogden, Jones, Thomas, Brown... just some guys we'll see. I'd like to see if they can beat them.

I just watched NFLN, and they were showing 2002 viewers choice.. how the Buccaneers are winning.. They're showing Lynch, Barber and The other CB/S all talking with Tomlin... Like "You called that play Mike, you knew it was coming"

Tomlin seems to like to have a Leader in the secondary (Polamalu) and let him be the coach on the field. Because he told Lynch to call a coverage change when he sees certain sets... thats how they got all their INT's in the Superbowl... Mike Tomlin had a lot to do with their win.

I'm excited.

I'd hate to be the Bengals or close to that team unless I was an Alcohol Distributer or Drug peddler..

I'd hate to be connected with the browns in anyway... I don't want a Staph infection or life-threatening injuries.. Oh! and Who can forget the beer bottle tossing..

As for the Ravens.. this will be interesting.. Barnes isn't Adalius Thomas, and I don't see Jarrett Johnson doing it either.. I'm excited...

yeah, smith is one of the biggest reasons I can't wait for training camp to start. I think he's going to overtake clark for the starting job. I love him, everytime he gets on the field somebody gets leveled. even in just the few plays we got to see with him last year on special teams and during preseason he was sick. anyway yeah I was just curious, its an awesome sig, I've been trying to get one of the guys on here to make me one.

I'll see if I can find another one of his An Smith ones.

You're going to Latrobe?

I live in Johnstown.. My g/f is from New Florence/Ligonier Area, and we head down 2-3 days..

I was down there last year and Willie Reid was rocking the place...

And I've never seen anyone sweat more than the guy standing next to me... well.. other than Big Snack..

But if your heading to there.. lemme know.. I think Mikehop is looking to come up from MD..

So if thats the case.. lets have a steeler fan meeting up there. I'll be wearing most likely a Lawrence Timmons, Lawrence Woodley, Derrick Jones, Eric Fowler, Paul Mosley or Kevan Barlow Jersey.

I got my Holmes and Smith Jerseys..

I'll probably wear my Smith Jersey.. but frankly.. I'll probably add 2-3 new ones this year.

hahah thats awesome, omar jacobs, what is he doing now? he could've been such a good backup for us. he just could'nt learn the playbook right?

anyway that anthony smith one is awesome, one of the guys on here just finished one that I had asked for or I would def. have used it, thanks though.

Yeah I'm gonna try to get up there for camp. I used to live in Monongahela but I live in gainesville now so I'm trying to convince my roommate to drive up with me. I've been to St. Vincent's before but never for camp. It would be cool if we made up our own little section. Man I can't wait.

I believe it's usually late July or August.

I know it's AFTER the Supplemental Draft which is on July 13th.
