I think it's time that we all realize that IRC is an outdated program. However there is a program similar to IRC that uses voice-to-voice rather than text-to-text, however it does have a text chat feature. If you don't have a microphone you can still use the program and use the text-to-text feature. It's called Ventrilo and it's free download. Because, I don't have any cash I can't create a server exclusively for us yet. However, I am an administrator on a server owned by a friend and you guys are welcome to come on. Here's what you need to do:

Go to http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php

Download the client for the platform you are running on.

Download the server for the platform you are running on.

Open Ventrilo.

Click the right arrow next to user name, click new and give yourself a name. You only need the name so ignore phoentic, description, and work dir. Click OK.

Click the right arrow next to server, click new and give the server name whatever you want. Put in 69.12.71.203 for Hostname or IP and put in 2340 for port number. Click OK.

Click Setup and check the box next to "Use Push-To-Talk Hotkey". Click the box next to Hotkey and then chose any key you want to be your broadcast key. Holding down this key will broadcast key. Click OK.

Click Connect and enjoy the fun. I'm in there as Ewing and I will answer any questions you have about how to use the program.

Vent is pretty old as well, and not everyone has a mic.

And the text feature is completely awful.

It's old but it's still better than IRC. People can still use it if they don't have mics. I agree the text feature isn't the greatest thing ever, but it's still better than IRC.

Vent is fine, I used it for WoW and CS for a total of about 4 years or so. Its a good program, I still prefer irc though, but thats just me.

I do encourage people to try it though, if you can.. good way to get to know people.

If it was going to be purely NFLDC people, I may try it out.

Im still trying to figure out how to get into the IRC, a voice chat would be moving too fast.

Something about a voice chat kind of creeps me out. However, like JBond, if it were only guys for NFLDC I'd give it a try.

I'm in there, but I don't see anyone or know where to go.

Who would want to sit around and chit-chat like a bunch of girls? The reason I post so much on this and other sites is because it goes so well with multi-tasking.

I don't think you were ever invited. You just kind of showed up.

IRC gets you a mod position or banned, can't beat that.

I can make a channel on that vent server just for us. Only you guys would know the password so we wouldn't be bothered by anybody. Sound good?

Why not use something more up to date like Skype for voice chats?

I prefer IRC, but I do agree for voice to voice I prefer Skype or teamSpeak

Text allows you to check what happened 5 minutes ago, if I tried to log voice it would take half my hard drive up.

I wouldn't call IRC outdated either, more people use IRC then all the voice programs combined

Do you like all the bickering and constant interrupting of sports talk radio, but hate the entertainment and original opinions of it? If so, NFLDC voice chat is the place for you...
