I don't think we should pick Jamaal Anderson. If we did, there is no way he would see the field unless Phillip Daniels is injured, and even then, I could see Renaldo Wynn or Demetic Evans to get the start before him (If their still here) and we need a true defensive playmaker now.
One of the main reasons people don't want Branch is because we got Montgomery and Golston last year, and they would somehow be "wasted picks". The truth is that Griffin and Salve'a are slowly easing over their prime, and neither of them can be counted on to be healthy for most of the season. And if one of them (or both) got injured, then we would be throwing Golston and Montgomery to the wolves, trying to depend on them to hold down the interior for who knows how many games. I mean, these guys have good potential and are good rotational players, but we can't expect them to start NFL games at where they are now.
So if we did draft Branch we could add a playmaking starter, a force to improve players around him, and much needed depth incase the injury bug strikes again. He's not really the sexy pick, like Anderson or Adams, but I think he would help our D more. Branch would ease the pain from the 5-11 season.
Other offseason moves:
Sign Rod Hood and/or Fred Smoot for a reasonable price to add experienced depth to our DB core.
Resign Dockery.

It seems like everyone wants there team to trade down and pick this dude (willis) why? I'll admit my ignorance, i don't know much about the guy besides the fact that he went to ole miss. But if he's so awesome why is he a middle pick and not an elite pick? As for me i've wanted Branch since the begining, the man is a beast and improves our entire d. I like Rod Hood too... i wouldn't mind us signing him but we probably won't. We are either getting Clements or Samuels.... i'd be down with hood though.

In other news, check out Alan Branch's Wikipedia, according to it he's a redskins fan.

I agree that Willis is a linebacking monster, and if there is someway Branch is drafted before our #6 pick, we should trade down far enough to get Patrick and a 2nd and/or 3rd rounder.

With as thin as the MLB class is with our next highest pick being a 5th rounder it will be hard to find someone who sticks on the team.

i dont think this is likely but here are some rumors i heard swirling around
portis for bly and detroit #2
portis for dunta robinson and houston#4
if this were a legit rumor i wouldnt hesitate to pull the trigger running backs are easy to find good cover corners arent. plus we would be able to take a stab at calvin if we really wanted or trade down and pick up some extra picks which would probably be a better idea
I don't know where this rumor came from but I can absolutely guarantee this won't happen. What are you guys looking for in the draft given you only have one pick before the 5th round? Obviously DLine should be a concern and will likely be your top pick with Branch or Okoye there, but what else beyond that?

if not d-line probably mlb cause i assume well sign a cb in fa but we still need some cb depth a ss to compliment taylor in coverage and after that mainly just some depth at o-line for inury security or if we dont get dockery back then definetly some o line

Eagles cornerback Rod Hood, an unrestricted free agent, is being talked about as one of the more attractive players in a less-than-stel lar market.
Hood will get a starting job and the money that goes with it, but he's not ready for a mega-contract. Look for the Giants, Washington and Buffalo to be among his most ardent suitors.
This doesn't really mean anything.. but yeah i figured i'd post it anyway.

You're such a betts hater, dude, it's ridiculous. He played great last season and has done his job in previous ones. Yeah, he has trouble finding the endzone but you make it seem like he's terrible. I wouldn't touh that deal unless there was at least a third involved.
With all that said, i don't think it's going to happen either... Al Saunders has too much of a man crush on betts to trade him and since out Assistant Head Coaches have quite a bit of sway i don't see this happening.

With the way the line was playing at the end of the year any Running back could have done what Betts did, that's why if we don't do anything else in the offseason most important is to throw loads of money at Dock. As for CB if Springs is cut we will have a hard time signing a capable replacement as Clements most likely will not land here.

I love Anderson and am leaning towards him to Branch but something I have kinda got on as of late is Amobi Okoye. Branch is the clear #1 DT right now but I feel when it's all said and done Okoye will be a top 8 pick and possibly challenge Branch for the first DT taken. While physically Branch is much bigger and blessed I really love Okoye he is more of a potential impact player. I mean you gotta love the kid he is so tough I mean he was a 16 year old college freshman playing football at Louisville. I mean just think he's only 19 right now with 4 years of college experience and in 3 1/2 years he will be the age that Branch is right now, I mean his potential might just be too much to pass up on.

Did they ever try him at RT (i know there was talk of it before camp, but never really heard anything after)?
How would you all feel if the Redskins decided to take Landry with their top pick? Branch stock is really starting to fall, so I questioned on if the Skins actually want him. They would have one hell of a safety duo with Taylor and Landry.

Allright, so I have Michael Vick as my fantasy QB, and I was excited because I thought he'd do really good in Petrino's System(more oppurtunities to throw the ball at least). Anyways, it turns out he's better at dog-fighting than he is quarterbacking. So I also have Jason Campbell on my team as the backup qb. What do you guys' expect of him this year? You guys' still have Al Saunders as an offensive coordinator right? All I know is that he made KC's Wide Recieving core look a lot better than it actually is. It's defiantly good that you have him. He's not a proven game in and game out fantasy starter yet though. Try to get a different QB either through FA or trades and put Campbell in during the weaker opponent weeks. He does have potential to blossom into a legit stat maker, just he hasn't proven it yet. With Saunders the offense should really open up this year.

You guys should all go the Fantasy Section and sign up for the National Fantasy League Signups 2nd season. It's basically a simulation league and if you're unfamiliar with what that is. You create a player, make yourself or make someone up and you get to make up everything about him. Position, size, strengths, weaknesses, college. You will then be entered into the draft. It doesn't ask for a huge commitment. You can just sign up and check whenever you want. But if you're like me, you'll get attached and get really into it. Just go to that thread and signup, it explains everything in further detail. It'll be a lot of fun. If you have any further question about it just ask me.

I'm really happy that Marcus Mason made the team. I'm confused as to why Dallas Sartz not only was cut but also not on the practice squad though
I'm not surprised yeah we had high hopes for him and he had that fluke INT but we are pretty deep at LB and he has shown nothing in camp, he is far too frail should be a safety reminds me of Archuleta. There were however many cuts that shocked me. Renaldo Wynn was the biggest one to me as well as the release of Joe Salavea, our Dline is even worse than last year if that's hard to believe. Wynn is a solid backup and can fill in at any time in addition to being the heart of the team and the city, we also let go of another passrusher in Justin Hickman. Omar Stoutmire and Ade Jimoh especially considering we also cut Jemetrius Butler, what happened to our great corner depth. Jordan Palmer well I also had high hopes for him but don't care, he was flat out awful in his chance to shine, JC is young anyways. Mason is a great story but should have been practice squad only. He will be behind CP3, Ladell, and probably Rock, atleast Rock brings experience and special teams ability. Glad Lorenzo Alexander made it though, also our wideouts is thin as hell. Only 4 receivers on the active roster, Thrash is basically a special teams ace so really we are going in to the season with Santana, Randle El, and Lloyd as our only receivers, that's scary. If one goes down we are in trouble and will just end up having to sign some FA bum to play.

I'm still mad at Smoot dropping the game winning pick. Reminds me too much of last year. Heyer was amazing though, he handled himself very nicely against Taylor.
Other than that, our secondary was pretty pedestrian, I didn't hear Laron or Taylor called once. While Smoot and Carlos were getting toasted.

Atleast he made a play on the ball a lot better than the rest of the day, he was abused. That Randle El play at the end of regulation was crazy.

yea man if randle el went left i think he woulda got in, that was insane especially after smoot almost took that pass back too..... but like u guys said the secondary looked terrible they were giving up way too much space and gettin burned all over the place, we got lucky cause the phins dropped a lot of easy passes. i thought the front 7 looked amazing agaist the run although the lbs didnt cover well most the game....the offense looked decent. campbell still needs to get a touch on the ball in the short to medium range passes but he has one of the best long balls in the league, the two passes to randle el were perfect.... santana surprisingly had some drops but a couple might have been cause of capmbell... portis looked great and made that nice td run hopefully gibbs sticks to him further down the season, betts did a decent job too i thought..... and the player of the game had to be heyer he looked amazing against the best de in the league, really stepped up from how he did in preseason.... hopefully jansen can come back, anyone know the trime frame on a dislocated ancle?
anyways, HAIL TO THE REDSKINS!

F%%K YES! We needed that, Campbell didn't do as good as I hoped, but he did bounce back and Portis showed everyone that he is going to play hard this year.
BTW eagles loosing to GB = awsome and unexpected.

Hahahahha dam nice.
The thing that bothered me all game was the weakness in the flats and outside the numbers. The main reason Taylor or Landry weren't mentioned is because they never passed it near them. This leaves Smoot, Rogers, and Springs out on an island, which they could obviously not handle. Carlos gives at least an 8 yard cushion, and still manages to get toasted. And how come Springs was playing nickelback more than on Chambers? Some injury we don't know about?

Yeah I wondered the same thing because Springs was good in the Nickel while Smoot was being toasted and picked on all day, Carlos had a few bad plays but didn't get thrown to much, Smoot was just picked on all day. His should have been INT was the only good play he made of the afternoon. It was really the only time he even made a play for the ball. I love how his man would drop the ball he'd hit them after and celebrate as if he did something. I'm starting to think those weren't Smooot's they were boo's. I was surprised however with Smoot's tackling but it didn't make up for the other stuff. I want to see Macklin in the nickel Smoot is decent but can't cover 1 on 1 for his life. I wish Eubanks wasn't on practice squad because I like his cover potential.

I know this might be abit of a sore question, but who is going to replace Sean Taylor at safety...either for the rest of the year, or the long run??? Thanks for the help guys

Probably Pearson Preleau (sp) Reed Doughty or Vernon Fox.
It's pretty open atm.

Im sure you guys noticed or heard but the Redskins opened up the game on D with 10 players on the field and one deep safety "They did not want to sub Sean Taylor out just yet". I thought it was an extremely classy move, but why should I be surprised, Joe Gibbs is the man. Good luck.

Yaa, I saw that too. I was wondering how the team would honor him and I knew Gibbs would do something creative. It's good to see a team and coach honor their player in a subtle and classy way. Good luck guys.

what all happened, i had a soccer game. i heard campbell got hurt bad, wtf.
finally closed out a game. for some strange reason the coaches decided to mix up the playcalling tonight and not sit on the ball once we had a lead. it was crazy to see. every other game this year weve had a lead we've come on the field and run run run. your gonna hear a lot of "start collins" people out there but lets get real. collins has a noodle arm. he was able to do well tonight because we were passing when they thought wed run and the bears did not scheme for collins. we had a ton of injuries and pulled through. we need the extra days that we now have before next week. hail.

I'm not on the "bring Ocho cinco to DC" bandwagon. He'll cost too much in a trade, want a bigger contract and he is 30. We've got plenty of money tied up in Moss & Randel El. I would rather get a cheaper veteran option like Hackett or Johnson.
i doubt bryant johnson would come cheap first off. and hacketts a decent option but neither are anywhere even close to ochos level. more than likely wed have to get into a bidding war with the bills for bryant and he is not worth that. and who cares if ocho wants more money. i only have a problem paying a lot of money to players who dont deserve it. ocho is one of the best receivers in all of football and probably still has another 3-4 years left at that elite status level. i mean look what TO is doing at 34. over the past 6 years, ocho he has averaged 1340 yards receiving per season, 89 receptions per year, and 8 tds per year. my guess would be that in fact he would be cheaper to get than what he is actually worth. the actual trade probably wouldnt be all that bad but yes wed probably have to give him a new contract.

What do you guys think of bringing DeAngelo Hall in? I think giving up your 1st round pick would be a steal for him.

id prolly do it
Redskins4Bowl26
03-11-2008, 06:32 PM
I think we should stay away from DeAngelo Hall and Chad Johnson. Both can be distractions, one has reportedly gotten in a fight with a position coach verbally and punched his head coach. The other was to childish to suck up sucking last season and had to yell at his coach during a game.
Neither of those types of players were used to build this Joe Gibbs team. I don't think we should start adding them now.
We should really take advantage of the draft this year.
:D
It would be cool though I will admit.

Good to see the Redskins bringing in Hackett. He hasn't had the market that I expected, probably due to his injuries. That said, he's a perfect fit for what the Redskins want. A big number 2 WR that knows the offense and allows Randle El to work out of the slot more. This could allow the Redskins to be more aggressive in the draft if they wanted, or to add depth. I mean, this could allow them pursue a Phillip Merling, who likely won't be there when the Redskins pick. Merling has the edge quickness to be effective on the outside and enough bulk to slide inside and pass rush. Or this could let them target a CB and move up. Adding Hackett would open so many doors for them in regards to adding quality talent towards next season.
i wouldnt argue with signing hacket, especially since he may come cheaper this late in FA. id prefer a trade for a guy like roy williams or chad johnson but like you said hackett opens a lot of doors for us. its rumored that he has a few other visits set up this week so i dont anticipate he signs anywhere till friday or so.

Dirty, I agree with you that we need a bonafide No.1 receiver. Santana is not that guy, at least anymore.
I really hope we can make a move for Boldin, who reportedly wants out of Zona per JLC (and some other sources). He's a big, VERY physical target, who knows the west coast system. Him, Santana and ARE would be a great squad.
id give almost anything for boldin. seriously.

Boldin is the perfect WCO WR!
I would love to have Boldin, but I would've much rather drafted Boldin when we had the chance to in the '03 Draft. But of course back then we were Advanced Florida University, and picked Taylor Jacobs. Excuse me while I go sob in a corner.

Yesterday I was watching the local news and Bugel was working out with Albert up at UVA for their pro day. This guy is a freak. He's listed at around 310, but he has no linemen gut. He's straight up muscle.
I can already see him pulling for Portis and blowing apart Lbers.
