[quote=GB12]Finally I get to see one of my team's games on TV. Marquette-Duke on ESPN2 in 7 minutes.[/quote
Duke is going to lose by double digits. Book it.
God I'm a friggin phrophet (sp?)
As an Illini fan watching Duke lose is almost, almost as great as seeing Iowa or Indiana lose.As a Terps fan. Theres nothing better than seeing Duke lose.

Duke has no business being in the top 15 this season. Possibly not even the top 20. They lost hands down their two best players, they don't really have an outside threat, they aren't deep, and they're inexperienced. But since they've got that Duke name, automatically the media and everyone else thinks they're going to be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Well, it's not only Duke. The same goes for plenty of other teams in the top 20 at this point. That's what all of these tournaments are for, because honestly, no one really know how great teams will be at this point. So once they all get into conference play (probably before then), we'll have a better understanding of who the top ten or so teams really are.

Whoo Hoo, Illinois just got one of the top freshman in the nation to committ, his name is Jereme Richmond. Can't find the recruiting thread so I figured I'd gloat about it in here.
Haha watch tomorrow he'll go to IU and Sanctions.
There is not clear dominant team this season. Florida is very good but I don't see them as being dominant (not like the Illinois' and UNC's of 2 years ago).
I'd say it's anyone's ball game right now to win it, and I expect to see that top 25 shuffle around a ton during the season.
Overrated teams:
Ohio State (we'll see how good they are come bigger tests)
UNC (stop Hansborough, stop UNC, easier said then done though)
Duke
Kansas
Boston College
Georgetown
Tennesee
Memphis
Just some off the top of my head. All these teams have talent but I question how good they really are. Only time will tell I guess.

Butler better be in the top 10 of the next AP poll.
They are 6-0 with wins on the road against Indiana, Notre Dame, Tulane (destroyed by 40), and neutral court wins over Tennessee and Gonzaga.
No one in the country has a better resume than the Butler Bulldogs right now....AP better show them some love.

And your point is? They're a better team then you are. If they played at their place they would have won. So that gives them the edge 2-1 (2 wins on neutral and one loss at the AH).
Your team is just down right bad cards, and that's the polite way to put it.

It will be Pitt, Georgetown and Marquette fighting for the title...UConn and Syracuse both lack consistency at PG and are a little young, they'll likely be a tad over .500 in Big East play...

Are you referring to UConn and Syracuse? You're right if you are, I should have mentioned that. It all depends on how well they mesh together, I watched UConn play Mississippi and A.J. Price played amazing, if he can be consistent like that all year, UConn can challenge...I haven't seen Syracuse play yet, but i read about them in a magazine and they seem to have a similar situation to UConn.

No it won't. Talk to me if they actually win a 1st Round game this season.
Plus Bruce Weber is on the brink of singing some stud 08 and 09 guys right now (plus he's got the #1 Illinois prospect from 10' already signed). He'd get the same guys whether or not he won this game.
Self is still a terrible coach and you can just tell because his players were making dumb plays down the stretch, and that is a sign of no discipline and poor coaching. The only reason he wins is because he's got talent on his team that can overcome his coaching. He's a great seller and recruiter but can't coach his way out of a bag (I'm an Illini guy but I bet a lot of people would say that he's the Ron Zook of Basketball, only I think Ron can coach a lot more then Self can).
There is no clear cut #1 team this season; so it's going to be fun to watch the battle for the top spot. I think it'll probably go to, hmmm; UNC, UCLA (weak Pac-10), or Florida again. But who knows, maybe Butler will get it.

Yep, exactly. I think that James has a better supporting cast then Wade did though, but Wade was a little more talented so it evens out. Nevertheless, I like watching them play.

Weber is certainly the better coach than Self, but Self can recruit circles around Weber.....it also helps that he is recruiting to a traditional program like Kansas rather than Illinois.
I think Kansas will underachieve yet again this year, but it's hard to argue with the talent Self has recruited to this team. Rush, Wright, Russell, Kaun, Chalmers, Arthur.....they have a sick team.

Tuesday we'll find out if this team is for real or not. We're 7-0 but we haven't really played a "statement" type game yet so we'll see. I think we'll win on Tuesday;
1) IMO we're a better team, but I'm sure Charm will disagree

yeah that was a terrible pass by mcbride, and a terrible shot attempt by him the next time down. I cant say im surprised by this though, UofI best scorer Jamar Smith is not 100%, and UofI's best player and shut down defender Brian Randle is out. With that said they still had chances and not scoring any fgs in the last 4 min excluding those tip-ins hurts.

B rush, arthur, and wright are amazing. O ya sasha Kaun is really good too :roll:but , seriosuly you watch this team until the end of the season and they will be a premire team . Another team that is in contention for the UNC.( and that really hurts me to say it because i hate them so).
BTW whoever said KU will lose in the first round to hofsta has it all wrong, It will be Butler( Bucknell, Bradley, and now Butler)
Don't roll your eyes at me. A freshman led team has a lot to prove in order for me to consider you number one. They have talent, but I question their experience.
Btw, didn't get to watch Illinois on tv, but I heard they battled Maryland to the wire. I'm not making excuses at all, Maryland was a better team tonight; but I want to see us with both Randle and Smith 100%. We'll be a darn good team come March, you can bet that.

I said it was going to be a good game, and I was rooting for the Gators. What was wrong with that? Turned out to be a classic.

Mike Jones, Who?
Despite the fact that we lost last night, I think we looked very good, especially in comparison to our first few games. If DJ had played worth a damn we could have won. Armon Bassett is going to be one of the best freshmen in the Big Ten this year. He was on fire from outside the arch last night and was our only player in double digits. Ben Allen or one of our other big men are going to have to step up if we want to contend with top teams more often though. This game was a defensive struggle and I was impressed by how well Ben played on D but he needs to become a scoring presence and stay out of foul trouble. Also did anyone see Mike White's block of Greg Paulus. It went all the way to the other end of the court.

My question is, OSU's strength seems to be outside beyond 3 point range. With Oden and the change of style (going from more perimeter oriented to a little more post oriented, although Oden's biggest impact will be on the defensive end). With that hamper with their offense? They don't look inside hardly at all right now.
I still want to see these teams play like an Illinois "type" team that slows it down, limits possessions, and plays hard D. I don't think we'll beat the Buckeyes this year, but it'll be interesting to see how they'll do against a slower game.
Great game though, I will say that. Talent all over the court. And danman, UNC is not going to committ defensively. In the past 5 years, they've never been known for defense, and that's going to kill them. Can't outscore everyone all the time because offense comes and goes, but defense is always there if you have intensity.

They played ok defense, but it's still an offense oriented program. Right now they have the talent to overcome a lack of D but in conference, that ain't gonna happen.
UNC has no help side D. You can penetrate on them all day long and get to the hoop. That's where Hansborough has to be a man in the middle and flatten guys who enter the paint. I will say that niether KU or UF look as good as these two teams though.

Nothing even like Felton. He'll be special, though.
But Ohio State surprised me. They have gritty guys down low, slashers, and a ton of three-point range. Once they get Oden, boy will it be fun to watch.
As for UNC, well, they're not as impressive as I'd expect from a Roy Williams-coached team. It seems like he's just randomly throwing guys on the court to shoot wild shots and eventually count on Hansbrough's determination to get them going. I think his style of play is going to eventually hurt them. Some great prospects on both teams, however.

Well when a team can go 12 deep it's going to be difficult this early on to find the right rotations. They have more talent and depth as any team in the country though and it's going to win them a ton of games.

100% right. Lawson is actually better than Felton at the same point in their careers I feel. Felton seemed a little more raw and a little less talented than Lawson is. I'm not sure who Ellington reminds me of yet but he is as pure a shooter as they come.

Not sure why it's such a revelation. ESPN has been saying Lawson is like Felton for some time now. I'll say that Lawson won't be as good as Felton though just because I love Felton.
But anyways, I forgot to talk about my guy Sean Williams. God I love his shot-blocking ability. If he can just keep his head on straight, he's going to be something.
As for UNC, I agree they have a ton of talent and depth, and they'll win a ton of games because they're UNC. But I was just talking about the here and now how I wasn't too impressed. Eventually, I'm sure they'll work it out (though I can envision not putting the right lineup on the floor hurting them at some critical point later on in the season).

I think that 12 men deep is going to hurt you more then help you. Because Roy is going to be obligated to use his bench, and that could disrupt rythmn. Illinois is about 8-9 guys deep, and I'll take it.
I still without question think you take the ACC though. Duke is down, Maryland is a good team but I don't think they'll win it, Georgia Tech is too inconsistent for my liking, and then it kinda falls off after that.

Nothing even like Felton. He'll be special, though.

My 2 teams played last night. Cincinnati goes to 5-1 after last nights victory over Oakland and Kansas State falls to 4-2 with a loss to Cal last night. Both teams imo are doing pretty good with the additions to 2 new coaches in their first year. Im not to sure in the future Mike Cronin of Cincinnati will be able to pull in the recruits Cincy has been getting in the last 10 years. And there is no doubt Huggins at Kansas State will always have good recruits coming in.

18 days until the annual Braggin' Rights game against Illinois.....hopefully this can turn into a legit rivalry again now that Quin Snyder is gone.

Word is that he is shadowing a big wig on Wall Street. Supposedly he has no desire to coach anymore......anyone that saw his teams play can understand why.
Smart guy, great recruiter, but just an awful basketball coach.

I'm predicting an upset though. Arizona is going to look over us and Brock, Pruitt, Carter, McBride, and Meacham are going to go off in this game.

It's a shame that recruits don't see this.
They lost to a DePaul team who lost to both Northwestern and Bradley (in fact they got waxed by Bradley). Pathetic, flat out pathetic.

He couldn't coach his way out of a friggin box. And I'm not kidding you about that. He was a terrible pre-game planner at Illinois (we could have and should have won the National Title in 2001). He doesn't know how to make adjustments and all a team has to do to beat them is play zone because they have trouble knocking down the outside jumper.
And yet Weber, without pretty much 3 starters hangs in and could have beaten a ranked team in Maryland last week. Makes you wonder don't it.

Well the hell game were you watching, inferior team?
Or how about a 35 - 8 foul difference. I'm not one to blame a game on the refs, but they were pitiful tonight, they shot over 30 free throws, we shot about 9. They had 4 or 5 ridiculously bad calls that changed the momentum. Pruitt's two fouls at the end of the first half and beginning of the 2nd half were god awful. And the carry call on McBride was disgraceful.
And btw, when you're missing two of your best players, one of which is your best scorer and the other of which is your best all around player, um yea I'll say that was a reason. We should have won that game without 2 of our best guys, and also one of our reserves in Richard Semrau.
I'm proud of my boys though. They battled bad calls, foul trouble, and tired legs to almost pull it out. Arizona is a darn good team, but so are we. I won't take anything away form the Cats, they made the plays down the stretch to win the game. But there was no "inferior" team yo, and I'm sorry but you're an ass for saying that. Might want to watch the game again before you say that. An inferior team doesn't get up by 16 points and hold the lead for 3/4 of the game. An inferior team doesn't get in foul trouble, get outshot from the free throw line, and almost win the game. You my friend need to get your eyes checked if that's what you think.
And this again goes prove why Weber is one of the best coaches in the game right now. Taking a make shift lineup and almost beating one of the most talented teams in the nation.

Self is the Ron Zook of Basketball (although Zook is a much better coach then Self). He can't coach his way out of a paper bag.
Playing to your competition is a sign of a bad coach. He's a terrible X's and O's coach, he doesn't plan very well, and he doesn't adjust.
Self was great when he was here but I'm much happier with Weber. With less talent we're playing better. I for one can't stand him though because he bashed us when he left for recruiting purposes.

They aren't terrible but they definitely aren't as good as I expected. They play great defense but they just don't have any guards that can create their own shots. They live and die by the 3 ball and it killed em today. This is why a guy like Gordon will help the program alot, because he is a scorer and can create his own shot. It was good to see DJ playing well again but the guards and Stemler were settling for the three too often and that shot that Stemler took at the end of the game was just idiotic.

Dammit we were so close :(
Pitt 70 Buffalo 67, with us leading most of the game
We are really tough at home

I just got back from my school's college basketball game and it was crazy. There were 58 fouls and 74 free throws attempted by both teams combined. New Mexico State which is my school was down by 2 with 1 minute remaining and UTEP which was already in the penalty made a stupid foul and gave us 2 free throws. We made them both to tie up the game. With 20 seconds left UTEP pulled a Chris Webber and called timeout when they had none left. UTEP then made another stupid mistake by fouling us on the inbound pass. Somehow we made them both again to go up by 2. I said "somehow" because NMSU missed about 25 free throws tonight. With no time left UTEP shot up a desperation 3 and missed and so we won the game!!!!!!!!!! It was a really good game because there were 15 lead changes in the 2nd half.

My squad Cincinnati plays a big rivalry game tonight against Xavier. The game is on ESPNU. Cincy is the underdog in this matchup even though they are home. Hopefully they can pull the W.

Because I hate Duke. :? And because I've been unimpressed with Duke all season long and they have no business in the top 15 right now, hell not even in the top 20 IMO.

89-75 with 32 points for Tucker. :D
Dang Wisconsin looked good today. They're playing like the best team in the nation right now IMO.

And my college beat them :!:
Hopefully this will be a wakeup call for Pitt. They aren't the elite defensive team that they used to be with Jaron Brown, Chevon Troutman, and the like.

Eh, i'm not worried about that game at all. Missouri State's a good team and while we could have/should have won it still beats losing to ND state like they did last year, and Marquette did this year

But watch out for Iowa as a sleeper, I honestly think there better than last year.
HAHAHAHAHA....
5-6 with losses to Nothern Iowa, Drake, and now Southeast Louisiana.
You my friend are a flaming homer. Let's see you try and back this one up. Also, you lose in Des Moines, Iowa and at home.
Ugh the Big 10 is so bad at basketball this season. Illinois, Wisky, and OSU are the only teams worth a salt in this league. The rest are flat out garbage, and yes that includes Indiana.
