first time was vs. us...WOOOOOO

I hope you're joking...There's way too many great teams ahead of them...There's probably only 1 #2 seed up for grabs (I doubt KU, UCLA, or Duke drop below a #2 seed), plus Indiana, Louisville, Georgetown, and UConn are ahead in the pecking order for the last spot
First, Indiana is in no way ahead of Wisconsin. Unless we have an extreme let up and drop one to Penn State or Northwestern we have at least a share of the Big Ten title and we beat Indiana twice. None of those Big East teams are ahead of us yet. Either Georgetown or Louisville will be knocked out no matter what because they play each other. If Georgetown wins out they'll be ahead of us, but they'd have to beat Marquette, Louisville and the Big East tourny. Kansas will probably be knocked out of a 2 seed when they lose in the Big 12 touny.

In no order the one and two seeds:
Memphis
UCLA
Duke
Tennesse
UNC
Texas
Wisconsin
Stanford/Georgetown/Kansas

There's a strong possibility we're a two seed. Also Bo Ryan should be coach of the year.

iowatreat54

Sean Miller (Xavier) for Coach of the Year...

I know it sounds backwards to not award a college coach for bringing in great players but Calipari/Pearl's teams were expected to do well. Xavier is rolling through a A10 schedule that is no push over (as well as a win over Indiana, @Kent St.) and they lost two good seniors last year. Just great balance, very well coached team. It'd be a shame if Indiana doesn't give him a shot.

I can agree with that, I was just throwing out 2 names that I thought deserved it more...I honestly want Painter to win it, I don't think there's a more surprising team, and they start 4 freshmen, but at the very least he should get Big10 COY

Memphis and Tennessee were supposed to be great. Had Memphis gone undefeated I'd say Calipari no question, but now the weakness of the conference does come into play. The Badgers lost their two best players in Alando Tucker and Kammron Taylor who accounted for around 50% of our offense last year. We weren't supposed to be in the top 4 of the Big Ten let a lone win it. Also take a look at the rosters. Tennessee and Memphis have stars and first round picks. Wisconsin plays as a team and none of the players will be drafted. I think we're an even better team than we were last season.

idk I would still argue both should get it over Ryan, but there is also the argument that you just made which is completely valid...I guess it's just the fact that I can't give national coach of the year to a coach who shouldn't even win his conference coach of the year

Painter and Ryan are getting it done, either one would be deserving. I didn't know much about Wisconsin coming into this year but with Tucker/Taylor gone I thought they weren't going to make the tournament. Neither of them are going against the best schedules (Memphis' schedule is harder than both) but it's not like they're loaded either.

Then Texas isn't a 2 seed. Kansas still has to get past Kansasa State and Texas A&M too. Also Duke still has to play UNC and Stanford has to play UCLA. Wisconsin getting a 2 seed is a lot more likely than you think.

Calipari is a joke of a coach. He has an insane amount of talent around him that makes him look good. But watch that Tennessee game over again, he was out of his league. It's helps having Rose, Dozier, Dorsey, Roberts, Kemp, etc...They are loaded.

Pearl is a good coach but he's a sleaze.

Wisconsin has lost to Duke on the road, Marquette, and Purdue(x2)

They've beaten Texas on the road, Indiana(x2), Michigan State

Assuming they'll win their last two games they'll finish 16-2 in conference and be 26-4 overall

Kansas is very skilled but they have their bad bumps in the road and you need to stop with the big hometwon bias.

Patrick Patterson out for the year with a stress fracture in his foot.

Shoot me in the face we're screwed. If we even manage to limp into the post season it'll be another 1st or 2nd round exit, I felt with him we could make a Sweet 16/Elite 8 run which I didn't feel the past two seasons.

This year sucks. We're definetely screwed in Knoxville.

IMO, Wisconsin either needs to win out, including the tournament, if they want a #2 seed...if they don't win the tournament, they need to hope Stanford doesn't win their tournament because that would likely give them a 2 seed

#1: Memphis, Tennesee, UNC, Kansas/Texas (Unless neither wins the tourny, then UCLA)
#2: Kansas/Texas, UCLA, Duke...those are pretty much the only "sure things",

the last spot could go to Stanford, Georgetown, Wisconsin, or possibly even Indiana if one of them teams win their tournaments and the others don't...right now, Wisconsin has to look the best, but if Stanford wins theirs I think they get it over Wisconsin...but Wisconsin has to win out for sure if they want a 2 seed

I think you're being biased. Kansas has one more win, one less loss, a higher RPI rating, a slightly tougher strength of schedule, a better record against the RPI Top 50, and a better record against the RPI Top 100. If Kansas loses one of their last 3 games or loses early in the Big XII tournament (combined with a good showing by Wisconsin in the Big Ten tournament), then maybe Wisconsin has an argument.

I was simply pointing out that it is much closer than what adschofield assumes. The Badgers have played some damn good ball this year and should not be overlooked. To say Kansas is by far a better team than Wisconsin is just BS and has no evidence. I wasn't making a claim for the Badgers to be the seed over Kansas, I was pointing out that it's alot closer than what has been given credit.

UNC isn't giving anything away. Tyrese Rice is simply goin' nuts today. When someone is as hot as he is, you almost have to sit back and enjoy it because their isn't much you can do about it.

Lawson needs to come in and take it right at him. He needs to test out his ankle and he needs to see if he can pick up a couple of cheap ones on Tyrese. So far, he has done squat besides a couple good passes in his time on the court.

But here they come ..

Woohoo!

You guys certainly did make it close there towards the end though. You actually kind of looked like us this past month. We always got down big and rallied to come back and win. Fortunately, we pulled it together and won.

Illinois State may have gotten an at large bid with their win last night at Southern Illinois. SIU was playing their best basketball all year and were on a 5 game win streak. SIU has been 61-1 at home in conference since 2001 and now are 61-2.

Anyone who tags UK fans with the "you can't win enough" tag is absolutely ignorant. We had people waiting for the bus when the team got home today to thank them for their LOSING effort.

What a game by the Cats, Gillispie coached circles around Pearl. Less 2 of our 4 most talented players and had a whole 36 hours to prepare for not having our most important player. I was very dissapointed to see them not pull it out (thought Crawfords shot was in) but I couldn't have possibly asked for more. Win the next two and we're in the tournament.

Am I the only who feels like John Thompson III is ruining Georgetown by not running more ? They are winning close games true enough but it seems as if the are winning games on blown or questonable calls. He is running that Princeton offense which got the team to the Final Four last year but with the athletes he has at his disposal ( Freeman, Wright, Summers, Macklin etc) Imean these guys can run. Actually the only guy who is illl suited to an up tempo offense is Hibbert. However he could rebound get a good outlet pass out and make his way down the floor so that if the break is not there they could have the offense flow through him either on the low block where he can use his size or put him at the top of the key and run there normal sets and take advantage of his passing skills. I love the Hoyas and go back to the days of Big Sky Shelton and Bay Bay Duran so it kills me to seee a team this talented with these kind of atheletes play this way. Not to mention that it could hurt recruiting in the future I mean most kids probably would want toplay with a team that runs at least some of the time . I am sure a guy like Summers is extremly frustrated. I went to high school with JTIII and would like to see him do well but this seems a terrible wast of talent.

I dont think theres any doubt that Painter deserves Coach of the Year. Most people knew Purdue would be good eventually, but he has really done a great job speeding up the learning curve for a lot of these guys.

I wish the Wildcats would run more plays for Beasley where's he up at the top of the key and given the option to drive and either kick or score. Too often they're actually treating him like a Center on offense when they should be taking advantage of the mismatch. Solid showing by him, in any case.

They could definetely afford to run more but not too much. A team like Memphis or UT won't last till the end in March because it's way easier to slow a game down than it is to speed it up. The recruits want to run but if you're winning they'll look past it. Thompson needs to realize with that talent you don't need to slow the game down.

I think Kansas has the ideal style of play. Tough defense, run when you get the chance but can also play in the half court. Luckily Gillispie is a spawn of Self so I think UK will be in that group once we get more athletic and bring in some scorers.

Are there many teams like that? Nebraska? I mean, realistically, a team like that could take down Kansas, Memphis, or UNC. I just think that they have enough of everything to go all the way. Certainly may not, but I'd take them over most teams.

I have little doubt that UCLA would beat UT 8 times out of 10. Tennessee is just not very good in their half court offense and if you can break the press you can control the tempo.

Kansas/UNC would be fine against a team to slow tempo and limit scoring. Memphis and UT can/will struggle against them. Watch either UK/UT game or the recent UT/Vandy game, it's like a script.

Actually, when Lawson was out and UNC was forced to go into more of a half court set, they were getting beat or being given close games by teams that had no business being with them. Of all the elite teams, UNC plays the worst defense, so if a team could run the half court on them and really slow down the pace, I have no doubt that they'd lose. A lot of what Kansas and UNC does is predicated on picking up the tempo and using their depth to their advantage.

As for UT and UCLA, I don't know about 8 out of 10, but I'm sure UCLA would beat them more than they lost, and I'm sure that if they set how the game was going to be played, they could take UT. But of course, you were talking about bowing out early and there's no way those two teams would face each other then.

Yeah, you're right. Who cares. Why even have rules. That game 'winner' was just so damn awesome that it negates the fact that the refs blatantly stole the ball from Cal and gave it to UCLA, thereby allowing the shot to take place in the first place.

See, Cal beat UCLA. Yet, somehow UCLA gets the W. But yeah, who cares. Why did they even play the game? I mean, nobody cares. Just give UCLA the win. Nobody gives a damn about what happens on the court, right? I mean all those fans in the stands and all the people watching on TV surely don't care. They were all forced to watch at gunpoint and couldn't care less what the turnout of the game was.

I agree the whistle should be a bit relaxed at the end of a tight game, but not when it's an obvious intentional foul situation, and not when it's as hard a foul with such devastating results as we saw with this particular play. i was rooting for UCLA but found this story on espn:

NCAA Rule 7, Section 1, Article 3
''The ball shall be out of bounds when it passes over the backboard from any direction.''

Pac-10 officiating coordinator Bill McCabe told ESPN.com Saturday night that official Dave Libbey was well aware of the rule that a shot cannot come from over the top of the backboard and be counted as good.

But McCabe said Libbey chose to allow Josh Shipp's game-winning rainbow bucket over the corner of the backboard from along the baseline that went in with 1.5 seconds left to give UCLA an 81-80 victory over Cal at Pauley Pavilion.

I think North Carolina is the best and most deserving #1 team by a fair margin and Kansas' choking habits has to be something you consider when evaluating a team. Same thing with OSU in football this year. I don't really care whether or not Kansas can play 1/2 and full court games because who knows if they can even beat a #9 seed.

Yeah that should have been called out of bounds, but the rule really makes no sense to me, how is it out of bounds when it comes from behind the basket to the front?

I said that Kansas was the best team in the nation over 2 weeks because most posters started ranking their top 10 teams...You called me out on it without any facts whatsoever, and you have still yet to tell me how why Kansas isn't the best team in the nation.

Did I ever say that KU was more deserving of the #1 ranking by the polls? No, but I simply stated that I thought they were the best team in the nation.

"Who knows if they can even beat a #9?" Well they beat a #9 last year, and besides, you can say that about every team in the country...you still have to play the games.

As for the choking, I don't really see your point, they choked when the team was full of freshman and sophmores, the team has grown up.

No if you really have a problem with me expressing my opinions, I apologize and suggest you no longer read message boards.

Finally, I'm going to ask you once more, why is UNC or any other team better than Kansas. Be sure to provide actual evidence this time, not just "UNC is best"

I think UNC is the best team in the nation because they're physical on the inside, they get to the line, they get other teams in foul trouble, they have a nice 1/2 court game and they have a dependable big man in Hansbrough. My only knock on them is size but they play big.

I have nothing against Pearl and leaving Milwaukee, lets compare for a moment here.

Tennessee plays in the SEC, Milwaukee the Horizon League.

Tennessee can pay him much, much more than Milwaukee, Tennessee has an endownment of $1 billion to our $150 million.

Unless some crazy **** happens, Milwaukee will never win a national championship, hell the Sweet 16 is prolly our max, Tennessee can do it.

Tennessee plays in a beautiful arena that is full, Milwaukee plays in a dump that is usually 3/4 empty unless we are winning or we are playing UW.

Have no issue with Mr. Pearl. However, I do hope Wisconsin and Tennessee are on opposite sides of the bracket so they wouldn't have to play til the NC, so I also hope to see UW do well.

How bout this, tell me if this is good enough evidence for you....

Because UNC is ranked number one, and Kansas is ******* not. Is that understandable? That's why UNC is better than Kansas.

And it does matter about what happens in past tournaments for a number of reasons.

A) Some of the players who were members of previous Kansas teams that choked are still on the team.

B) Since they've choked many times recently, it's going to be on their mind so that they can prove that they're not the same Kansas team, it's additional pressure and additional nervousness.

A) Like who? Simien, Myles, Langford all left bud. Darnell and RR were freshmen that year and barely even played.

B) The last time Kansas choked was in 05 against Bucknell. Unless you call getting to the Elite 8 and losing to a very good UCLA team choking. The bottom line is that this Kansas team is the same team that made it that far last year, with another year of experience under their belt. The only player the lost is Julian Wright, but his absence has allowed Shady to emerge. There is no reason to think this team can't do last years team one better and reach the Final Four. If you had to pick a favorite, they would be one of your top options this year. The only way they lose is if they lay a HUGE egg. All three losses this year they didn't show up, and two of those games they still had chances to win.

A. So why do we have a tournament? If the number 1 team is the best team, then we should just give them the title right? Polls mean nothing...Florida was unranked before they won their first NCAA title, it's a mute point.

B. Your point would make sense if we still had the 2005 team, which was full of Roy Williams' seniors who didn't want to buy into Bill Self's system...Saying that just because we got upset by Bucknell means that we will choke again is a dumb point...obivisouly, as with every other team in the nation, an upset is possible, but just because we lost to Bucknell several years ago doesn't mean we'll be upset again.

What is the cause-effect relationship between the two...saying that 'Oh, Kansas choked before means they'll choke again' is quite honestly dumb. Every major program has been upset before, does that mean they'll choke again this year?

Haha, yeah man. Since I'm here in Connecticut I get all the games on TV.

Man, it was UNREAL. We went on a 30-0 run in the first half. It was insane. Adrien was hitting jumpers (even nailed a three pointer), and Robinson and Thabeet were superb. Honestly, every single one of our players looked great out there.

Dyson really played well too, I think he's finally starting to get into his groove since coming back.

For some reason, the more I pay attention to college basketball the worse off I am at these things. When I was like 12-13-14 I went on a tear, I won $300 when MSU (Mateen Cleaves) won it all and almost won it in '96 and '00. I've been very so-so lately.

roidrunner

we Louisville fans understand that under Rick Pitino, our teams are always ranked early. fall apart early, then the team realizes their potential and starts producing about middle January. We are unbeatable in February. and March is about 50-50. depends on the streak the team is. Every UK fan i have met before you has always had something negative to say about the team unless they are ranked #1

When PP first went down I would've said very little chance, now, I'm fairly confident.

It's really a matter of matchups. I think if we get a 10 there won't be too much concern about a team having good big men at the 7 seed.

Teams like Louisville, Stanford, UCLA, UNC and Kansas would really give us a hard time. Any guard oriented team I'm confident against. I think this team is very capable of a sweet 16 run but it's a matter of matchups and like with any team, luck.

Mason will be a team to watch in the tourny, Folarin Campbell and Will Thomas were arguably their two best players when they made the final 4, and now both are seniors and much better, especially Thomas, and Campbell as a point. Thomas is one of the best pure "college" big men. They have some good guards, problem is frontcourt depth but even two years ago that wasn't a problem. If they find their swag again they can make a sweet 16 run, and who knows from then. Lightning could strike again.

I know some people don't like him, but I think he's going to be a good player in the NBA, he has great touch around the basket, but obviously he's also very strong and can finish through contact, along with being a great rebounder. I see him being a Paul Milsap type player.
