Tyler Zeller is overrated. He's got some nice size and some good skills but UNC fans will learn real quick he wasn't worth all the hype he got.

I think UConn will probably win the Big East, but the teams will probably end up beating each other up.
By freshman of the year, do you mean nationally or in the Big East? Nationally I'd say Al-Farouq Aminu has a great shot at it while in the Big East I'd go with Mike Rosario from Rutgers who will probably have the most opportunity to put up nice stats with a porous Rutgers team.

They are not porous. Hill has done a great job getting talent in there. Rosario, Echecnique, Chandler, is a nice young core to build around.

Just from watching the Kentucky game I liked Davis a lot more than Zeller. With Thompson there also I don't think it's that big a deal that Zeller is gone. Davis is going to do a real good job down in the paint.

Davis is sick. He needs to add bulk, but for a freshman he's excellent.

I like Louisville. Their athleticism causes real problems offensively for other teams and they're well coached. The talent on that team is pretty insane. UConn is very good, don't get me wrong, but from what I saw of them last year they are a very beatable team. Much more susceptible to getting beat by the above average but not elite Big East teams. Analysts are banking on them improving and perhaps that's the case but I just can't see them getting to Louisville's level. Just how I see it.
Frosh of the year I think Monroe may get the touches to pull it off. Rosario's solid as well and playing for Rutgers will help his numbers, and Kemba Walker is excellent but I don't think will have the numbers for it. But I think Monroe's numbers could be more or less comparable to Rosario's and he'll be playing for a better team that gets more attention nationally.

I wish Villanova actually played teams in their non-conference schedule. Monmouth? They slept through the second half, for whatever reason got away from trapping defensively which was very successful, and still won by plenty. Corey Stokes and Dante Cunningham actually each had more points than Monmouth at the half. Not even really fun to watch. Can't wait till we play Texas. Even though we'll probably lose it's going to be fun to actually play a non mid-major team.

But if those team get even 1 legit scorer, they can be scary. The defensive teams do end up being the most consistent throughout the season and usually get them to a sweet 16.
As for Duke, they need to play a team with a legit big man. They are going to get destroyed by UNC and Wake Forest in the ACC.

But its easier to throw a team under the bus because some team I hate destroyed them. Duke comes into most seasons "overrated" because everyone hates them so and can't look at them objectively.
Duke has done very well without a big man so far and will continue to do so. However, Duke will struggle to beat UNC for reasons aside from just a big man. UNC is a very good team that can beat anyone with their weapons. Wake? From what I've seen I don't think they're good enough to beat Duke or UNC just yet, however I haven't seen them too much so I'll reserve my predictions upon further notice.

The Big Ten simply doesn't have anyone to match up against North Carolina, Duke, or Wake. I don't think anyone really thought they would. But if you get past the elite teams, the Big Ten is pretty solid from top to bottom this year, especially in comparison to others.
There likely won't be a Big Ten team in the Elight Eight, but I could see 7-8 teams making the tourney.

Collison is such an enigma. Really UCLA is such an enigma. They look weak, but they are still the class of the PAC-10 until someone dethrones them.
I'm eating crow. I expected Collison to fall flat on his face and lose playing time to Holiday and Lee. Everyone thought he was an idiot for returning and he may actually have been able to raise his draft stock. Granted conference play hasn't begun yet.

You have a game with AJ Abrams and Darren Collison. You really expected there not to be a ton of 3s? Abrams alone has attempted at least 7 3s in 5 of Texas' 7 games this year with a staggering 17 attempts in the Notre Dame loss

I feel ashamed that UCLA does not scare me right now. I understand that they play great defense, but they don't have the legit scorers they had the past couple of years to create a quality offensive team.

I am just not coming away overly impressed with Jrue Holliday. Maybe my expectations are too high from the past PAC-10 freshman, but he was supposed to be a PAC-10 POY candidate, but he just seems inept on offense.

Agree 100% Holiday just did not impress much tonight, the guy inside, eboye(sp?) really impressed me with his hussle. Texas is a very good rebounding team and he was outfighting our bigs consistently, looks to be a good player, what classification is he. Collison has quicks on quicks but does chuck up unnecessary shots at times. Agree on Dragovic, I thought eventually he'd start knocking down some shots. Shipp really brought his A game in the 2nd half and almost won that game for UCLA. Good scrappy game and good win for an offensive-less Texas team. Looking forward to seeing both teams get better as the season goes on and eventually be 2 of the upper echelon teams at the end of the year. Maybe a rematch in March.

He is like only 5 or 6 games into his college career so we probably should cut him a little slack. Heck Demar DeRozan has been playing like a guy who wouldn't start in the WCC or the Big West let alone the Pac 10 but he's still being talked of as a top 5 pick.

See that why I really don't think too highly of Abrams. His shot selection is terrible. Granted, I've only seen him play a handful of times, but every time I do see him he's a pure chucker.
Perhaps I don't like his game because I prefer more traditional guard play. Dish the rock over shooting. Whats he averaging an assist and a half per game?

Minnesota might have the easiest OOC schedule I've ever seen. We play Louisville. That's it. Even the ACC challenge was against celler-dweller Virginia. I'd argue that beating Eastern Washington (Big Sky favorite) by 21 points is our signature win so far. We could win 22-23 games and still not make the dance.

A ton of us UK fans want to see that series start up again. Self/Gillispie's relationship will either make it happen or make it not happen, I would say it's bound to at some point.
UK sure bombed the first half but at least they made a game out of it. Liggins is going to be a star at the point. If Meeks hits the shots he normally hits we win but obviously that's not how it works. Our defense has given up less points in entire games than we did in the 1st half, missed Harris (our best defender) a ton. Not only does he give up less to McClinton but Meeks has fresher legs on offense. Oh well, this one sure would've improved our seeding come tournament time.

Lots of Villanova people are pretty optimistic about it, but I have believed he's going to Kansas for quite awhile now. Perhaps it's just because I'm being pessimistic, or it's what happened with Tyreke Evans last year. Regardless it's probably going to come down to Kansas or Villanova, with Pitt as a dark horse. Scottie Reynolds baby, he better do me proud. I'd like to see Corey Fisher take his game to another level like I know he is capable of.
Fisher has been considerably better this season, much more under control than last year. His assist numbers won't be there because he shares the rock with Scottie so much, but he shows good vision. Great getting up and down the floor in transition, does a fantastic job getting to the hoop though he could stand to finish better once he gets there, and he shoots the ball well. Picks up some ticky tacky fouls but he's aggressive defensively and does a nice job picking up steals. With his quickness, strength, shooting ability, handle, and passing ability there's no reason he can't become an elite college player. All that's missing really is explosiveness getting to the hoop, but he's so crafty if he manages to finish he can get away with not being quite so explosive.
Still think Villanova's lack of depth, especially with bigs, is going to hurt them. Unless Sutton's redshirt comes off, Drummond transferring leaves Villanova with no big bodies.

Scottie won't score nearly as much as Curry, but he does all the little things for this team. They've got a lot of pieces that can score so he doesn't have to do quite as much. Cunningham's improved a ton and a guy to keep an eye on is Corey Stokes. He's got range from all over the floor, if they get him the ball he can hit it.

I watched the Mason vs. Liberty game and I will say Stephen's brother Seth is such a legit freshman. I can't believe every school passed on him. He is just as deadly as a shooter as Stephen and he also is a player in the clutch. He put down 24 against Clemson, which is awfully impressive for a freshman. He is averaging over 21 ppg in this his freshman season. It's a shame Seth didn't land at Davidson. That would be the perfect backcourt duo. Good, tough, defensive game between Texas and Villanova. Texas played very well and a very timely game, took advantage of Villanova's turnovers, and did a fantastic job getting baskets to kill any potential runs for Villanova. They just played a solid, timely game. Very athletic team, some good rebounders, and they played very well defensively. Free throws can definitely hurt them against a team that manages to keep the game closer. Wish it had been closer towards the end, but other than that it was a pretty good game to watch.

Points per shot attempt:
Stephen Curry: 1.46
Blake Griffin: 1.89
James Harden: 1.87
All I'm saying is if those two shot the ball as much as Curry, they would be averaging much higher ppg.
I get your logic there, but in reality those two are probably getting higher points per shot attempt because they are taking their shots in the rhythm of the game, whereas Curry has to force some because he essentially is Davidson. All that really means is that they are taking better shots. Not sure that if Harden or Griffin started randomly chucking up another 10 shots a game they would automatically result in an increase of almost 19 points per game, if you know what I'm saying. It does show a good knowledge of how to score in the flow of the game and efficiency, however.
I'm not trying to take anything away from Griffin or Harden because they're both ridiculous players that should easily be first team All-Americans and national POY candidates, but the logic there is a little flawed.

Yeah, I know and I agree with everyone here, it is just getting annoying how little love James Harden is getting. First of all to be snubbed pre-season AA is beyond ridiculous, but now there is no shot for him to win POY because of the media attention given to the other guys. I don't normally claim west coast bias, but it is pretty evident this year as far as POY candidates are concerned.

I hear that, just because he doesn't get his due nationally doesn't mean that people who know about basketball don't know who Harden is. It's just the media, and yeah I could agree that there's probably some East Coast bias. Plus Hansbrough is kind of a lunch pail hustle guy that (some) people like to root for, and Curry comes from Davidson which again people enjoy rooting for smaller schools/underdogs so it's easy for the media to spin. Plus Seth Curry is just going to get Steph more attention and vice versa.

Wall would definitely be a good sign for Kansas, his explosiveness for a point guard is ridiculous. Presumably he and Taylor or whoever the high 4 star PG/SG they signed (Elijah Johnson?) could form a backcourt that could guard the 1 and the 2 along with some real quickness and athleticism. You have to imagine they get somebody, I almost think their involvement with so many high caliber guys hurt them because they didn't show a major commitment to any guy besides Henry really who Memphis had an edge in getting because of CJ.

His father and his mother played B-Ball at Kansas...I'm not too concerned though...I doubt we get Cheek or Wall, but have a good shot at Withey, the Arizona transfer (He's down to KU and UT). Plus, we have a good shot at Harrison Barnes in '10.

Yeah, Clark has just been miserable this year.
I still think Wake Forest will win the ACC. I know UNC has looked very good, but besides beating Notre Dame, I don't hold much stock in their other wins. ACC does look much improved this year, but they still aren't much more than 4 or 5 teams deep.
My conference rankings:
1. Big East

3. Big Ten
4. Big XII
5. PAC-10
6. SEC

Tyreke Evans just lost Memphis the game. He was 9-25 from the game but in overtime was terrible forcing shots 1 on 5. Great win for G'Town. Greg Monroe is a legit lottery prospect in 2-3 years. He has the length, size, and athleticism but what separates him from most big men is that he has some serious skills. Handling, passing, rebounding, shot blocking, post offense. The kid was smart to go to Georgetown, he might not put up huge stats because of the system but he will become a much smarter and better player for his NBA career. Chris Wright is a little beast, DaJuan is playing great at the 4. Austin Freeman will be a terrific college player but I don't see him as an NBA prospect like most do. IMO Monroe and Summers are the only legit NBA prospects at this point on the team.

I hate the University of Indiana and how many national games they have. Everyone knew they would suck this year, but they still get way too much exposure. Evans wasn't awful but he wasn't good. Forced way too many shots. Dudes got talent but tried to take over the game himself.
Indiana sucks. Feel bad for Crean he's trying to spark energy with the program and the fanbase but its an uphill battle.
I gotta say im watching gamecast right now and michigan from the numbers looks very good. shooting 50%, 47% from 3 point land, and Manny harris has20 second half points, 4-7 from deep and 8-16 overall.
