reminded me of the wvu-texas sweet 16 game few years ago

wvu behind all game; cuts it to 3 and pittsnogle hits a 3 to tie it with like 5 sec to go

texas inbounds it and they shoot a 3 and it goes in

Damnit!!!!!!!!!!!! Of course Gary Johnson had to lose the game for Texas. The guy sucks forreal. Shoots too much and isn't really strong inside. The only reason he plays is because he has a striking resemblance to Al Horford.

You are right. Regardless of the refs Texas would have lost but for a second it looked like they had a shot and the refs were ******* them over which is why I was upset. That last minute was pretty horrible to watch. They had so many chances to win/send it to OT.

Well Nova should crap all over Duke. Nova can shoot just as good as Duke but they are all bigger, faster, stronger, more athletic. Also Cunningham will own Lance Thomas. Duke won't play Zubek either next game as Cunningham will just pick him apart from the outside if Zubek is on him. Nova has so many bodies they can rotate on Gerald Henderson.

derza222
03-21-2009, 09:56 PM
I think Nova-Duke is going to be a really interesting matchup. At the end of day if Duke's knocking down their threes they should win though. They should definitely be able to get their looks, huge weakness of our D IMO.

Lol maybe I'm just being pessimistic. Still think the three can keep Duke in the game. Our athleticism should help though. I'm going to miss this team whenever it's all said and done, especially D.A. and Cunningham. Right on about the bodies to rotate on Henderson, hopefully we can contain him. Would be nice if Scottie had a good game, but at least he's not trying to win them on his own because that'd just lose us the games.

SeanTaylorRIP
03-21-2009, 10:03 PM
Scottie is definitely lacking so much confidence. He is hesitant on all his passes and isn't even playing with that scoring killer instinct he did even from his first day as a Freshman. Fisher is definitely carrying Scottie right now but he needs to step it up because if Scottie gets back on track this Nova team can be right there at the end with anyone in the country. Stokes needs to continue to stroke it.

The beautiful thing about this team is the overall contributions on the offensive end. Reggie can knock it down if left open from behind the arc, but he's looked fantastic on dribble drives recently and that's really more his game. Shane can knock down shots as well, and has looked fantastic in the post. Dante's obviously been playing great ball and his elbow J and quickness make him a big matchup problem for lots of teams, Stokes can really shoot it (though he doesn't do much else), and Fisher is great at breaking down the D and getting into the lane plus he can knock down threes as well, and Scottie is the wild card. If he goes off, he's the one guy that can singlehandedly carry this team. I think the Georgetown game shook him up a little, hasn't quite been the same since though he was solid against Marquette. Tone also has a lot of skill in the post and is a great athlete along with a pretty good passer but he's got no confidence right now, fouls a lot and travels a lot too. Can't believe I almost forgot D.A., who can also knock down threes and get some things done inside. Whenever we need a big play, it seems like he makes it. The overall hustle, hitting the offensive glass and getting after it on the defensive end, kind of like D.A. diving to knock out the ball when we're up 20, is what this team is all about and a big reason they're able to have success against better overall teams.

I know the zags have pargo but i jsut think it is an easier match-up for us because LSU imo was a very good basketball team that came to play, the score (84-70) didn't show how close of a game it really was but down the stretch t-law took over

Every time I watch Terrence Williams it amazes me that he's not considered a lottery prospect. Can pass, rebound, defend, great slasher, and his shot is improving.

When you factor in how bad this draft class is overall I would have no worries taking him in the top 15.

Terrence Williams is a beast. IMO, the MVP in college basketball. What he does for his team, no one else can. He's the reason why they're so good, everything runs through Williams. No, it's just the reason March Madness is great is its unpredictability. Not so this year. The big surprise is a team that most picked to win both rounds, Arizona. There's no real underdog to get behind. All the favorites moved on, really.

But they didn't move on in a predictable fashion. It wasn't predictable until the game was over, in which case the enjoyment generally ceases anyway. I just fail to see how an unwanted result takes away from the enjoyment of a game, unless it's your favorite team losing or something.

I thought Lance would've been best to go to SJU. Get his on a ****** team and then get the **** out of there. Good conference to play in, and it's not like he'd have to fight for shots with anybody there. And hell, if he brings back the team a bit then he's got that for him as well. Apparently he wants to get out of NY though and play with some better teams and players. Maybe trying to get people to change their opinion of him...but I think the questions will remain.

Yeah I too thought that Saint Johns was the no brainer. He would be playing at MSG every night which is the ultimate dream for a NYK city kid and he could chuck up 40 shots a night. I think he is scared though to go up against Big East defenses. BTW Big East has proven why it's the far and away best conference in the country. 3 #1 Seeds, 5 teams in the sweet 16, was nearly 6 with Marquette who would definitely be there if it weren't for the unfortunate injury to Dominic James. WVU was the one disappointment of the conference but their future is still bright Ebanks and Da"sean Butler. I mean Notre Dame, Cincinnait, Georgetown, and St. Johns weren't even in the top 8 teams in their conference, still those bad teams in the Big East still managed to knock off teams like Memphis, Texas, Mississippi State, American Etc. Big 10 has definitely done much better than I thought and has proven me wrong while the ACC has been a huge disappointment to me. Clemson and Wake were huge busts but it doesn't surprise me the way they finish their seasons, while FSU was the biggest shocker to me and a horrible way for Toney Douglas to end his career. They could defend but Toney had no support on the offensive end at all. Maryland was a pleasant surprise for knocking off Cal but they were such an overachieving team feeding off the energy of Gary Williams and Greivis. Anyone who knocks on Gary Williams shouldn't be allowed to watch CBB. BTW I heard that Lance took the Terps off his list but it would actually be a nice fit if Greivis leaves. He would be the star, college park embraces their athletes, and by going to UMD you automatically get that Under Armour sponsorship when you go pro.

to be honest the same was said about Brandon Rush that is being said about Lance and Brandon was far from what his reputation led people to believe.not saying Lance is'nt a me type player but never know til you meet the kid

I'm just basing it on what I've seen on youtube and ESPN. He jacks up shots, doesn't play defense, and always asks for the ball. He'll probably change once he's in a team where he's not the best player...but those are my only knocks. He has a good jumper, and is poised. He's athletic, tall, and has the potential to be a great defender (if he wants to).

Flynn is coming back. Syracuse is going to be absolutely dirty next season. Should be a pre-season top 5, assuming nobody declares early for the draft. Only scholarship player we are losing is Onganet and we have Wesley Johnson (transfer), Scoop Jardine (medical redshirt), DaShonte Riley and Brandon Triche coming in. Boheim has insinuated that Wes Johnson could be our best player next season. Right now we are one scholarship over the limit, maybe Sean Williams will transfer (hopefully).

Patty Mills is getting the best of him right now, although he does probably have more talent around him. I do like Lovedale though.

Lovedale is straight, he's a good rebounder and defender but he has no post game and cannot step out and shoot it.

Patty Mills has a decent team around him, they were at least competitive when he went out, Davidson would've been terrible had Curry missed any time.

I still love Patty Mills though yes, he's magic when he has the ball.

Well considering you were talking about a top 25 ranking earlier this year I think this season is a complete failure for Kentucky. When you have two of the best players in the SEC (which is a **** conference anyway in basketball this year) and you can't make the Tournament, that's a bad season. Those two NIT wins so far look alright but considering the talent on the roster and a weak conference, there is no reason for you to be playing in the NIT.

I know you talk about the future a lot with guys like Miller and Liggins but the talent on that roster is good enough for you to be in the dance, Billy G shat down his leg this year and that team underachieved greatly.

I completely agree with everything you said, you're not saying anything I haven't thought myself Yes, we should've made the dance (easily might I add). The team regressed greatly after the middle of the season. We were without a doubt a top 25 team at the end of January but nowhere close at the end of February. None of us are happy to be in the NIT, hell, I'm not happy if we don't make the sweet 16 at least.

We'll have one of, if not the best front court in the nation next year with the addition of Orton/Pilgrim and Patterson one year better. One of the best SG and most importantly a bulk of playing time will go to Juniors and Seniors. We just have got to find a consistent Point Guard. Miller is going to be a stud next year, the scoring finally started to balance out lately. Liggins I'm not counting on for anything, the guy is a turnover waiting to happen. Jon Hood should provide some off the bench scoring and Ramon Harris has come on strong lately. We'll be alright.

I'll be honest with you, I don't think Billy G is the answer in Kentucky. He recruits well and the players seem to like him but as far as coaching goes, he's underachieved in his first two years.

Which is funny because many thought that Billy G was Self's "brains" when he was at Illinois in terms of X's and O's. So maybe things just aren't fitting right. If UK doesn't at least make it past the first day next of the NCAA Tournament I think Billy's honeymoon is over. Patterson, Meeks, and Miller are a helluva trio, one of the best in the land next year.

Michigan State loses one starter (Sutton) off this years team, they should be up there as well.

Ohio State will be dangerous as well if Turner comes back. Buford, Lighty, and Turner is a ridiculous trio of players that can light it up.

Not to mention Morgan is presumably going to be fully healthy for MSU.

On paper, I don't think the Big XI loses much and is going to be gaining more with incoming freshmen. Hell, I'm even excited because Iowa only loses our starting center, who was out half the year anyway, so a season above .500 isn't out of the question. YAY!

Tisdale and McCamey for Illinois are potential All-Big 10 type players next year as well if they progress like they did from year one to year two (although Demetri kind of regressed a bit, he has to get in better shape).

Same deal actually, I've got 'Nova in the Final Four in a couple pools but the one that I've got a shot in right now I have Duke. Dante should be a monster because of his versatility, and I think Duke's really going to struggle to contain Corey Fisher. Hopefully our athleticism helps on the glass and contesting shots at the rim. Duke probably will get lots of open threes tough. A very interesting matchup to say the least.

Gillispie is solid at recruiting and really produces in the X and O department (which didn't show a lot of times this year given our guys would just make awful decisions). The confusing part is his substitution problems. We scored 5 times off timeouts last night. The guy is great in setting plays up, he just picks odd people to put in the game. Also his pure man-man defense works great a lot of the time, no doubting that we've been one of the best teams in the nation defensively since he's come here... But then there are other times a player will just start to go off on us and we've got no answer. It's too early to say if he'll fail or succeed. I see reasons that both could potentially happen. Hopefully this year is a learning year for everyone involved.

If we don't produce next year, he's in trouble. We'll lose Patterson/Meeks, several upperclassmen role players. Next years team is going to be built for success if the PG position settles out. Everyone from this year will be one year more experienced (huge for the PG spot and Miller) then Daniel Orton will be one of the best defensive freshman in the country and allow Patterson to move to PF. We play UCONN, UNC, Louisville and several others in our OOC so we'll know early what we're made of.

If Damion James stays in School I'd pick Texas to be an early final 4 favorite. All they would lose would be AJ Abrams who was a big enigma who shot too much and couldn't run point. Their starting lineup would probably be Balbay, Ward, Gary Johnson, James, and Pittman. Balbay will only improve as a PG. If he could just cut down on the turnovers he is a pure point who can penetrate on anyone. Texas has to be so excited about Varez Ward who was only a Freshman. He was big time against Duke and looks to be a deadly combo guard if he finds consistency. Gary Johnson is a long and strong defender who really shouldn't be taking outside shots. If Damion James comes back he could be one of the more dominant players in the country on the boards and showing his improved jumper. He could be a Shawn Marion type player in the NBA. Lastly with more conditioning work Dexter Pittman could be a dominant Sean May/Mike Sweetney type center in his senior year. Off the bench you'd have vets like Justin Mason and Harrison Smith. More exciting is that Texas has what I consider to be the top recruiting class in the nation. 2 big time top 15 recruits coming in. Avery Bradley is big time and IMO one of the top 10 players in the draft class. He reminds me of Russell Westbrook and would definitely help fill the scoring void left by Abrams. He would be a monster sparkplug scorer off the bench or possible starter even. I thought he would go to UCLA or even Kansas but I think Jrue will come back next season. Jordan Hamilton is a guy who I also think is a top 10 prospect and could start over Gary Johnson and make him come off the bench. Hamilton is long and a big time shooter, he might at times have Longhorns fans reminiscing of Kevin Durant. He's obviously not on Durants level but I think he has some of the best pro potential from anyone in the draft class. Shawn Williams is another tall wing who will stroke it from the perimeter. If Damion James stays I'd even go to say that Texas would be the #1 team in the nation, even without him they'd probably be a 3-5 seed in the tourny.

Considering Abrams was the one who pretty much by himself beat Minnesota in the first round with his long range spectacle (what'd he make like 8 threes in that game?) Texas will need guys to step up. If James is back I love their front court, but the backcourt has question marks and I'm not a huge fan of Barnes as a coach anyway, his teams seem to always underachieve below what they are capable of.

**** I forgot Battle, how could I do that? I was singing his praises about a week ago. Battle is no doubt in my mind the best guard in the conference, and that includes Manny Harris, Buford, Lucas, etc. Guy is unreal. So yea he comes back too.

Northwestern is coming off the best season in school history and returns pretty much everyone of their major players I believe. While they aren't THAT good they are still solid and were a bubble team for the NCAA Tournament.

Still probably on paper the best conference going into next year, or at least one of the best as some could still make an argument for the ACC, Big East, or the Big 12 but the Big 10 returns the most, will have at least 8 teams that will push for a Tournament appearance, and we'll have good balance.

Him and the University have had a signed Memorandum of Understanding since he first got here. It's a legally binding document which spells out the basic things (buyout, salary, performance bonuses etc.) but is not as intricate as a contract with specific clauses etc.

There are a ton of random BS rumors flying, our internet boards are the scum of the earth, its' a very bad representation of UK fans as a whole. The large reason for him being on any sort of hot seat with the University isn't as much over performance but representing UK. Apparently Seth Curry is transferring from Liberty. Any team should try to get him. He was just a freshman this year but was one of the top 10 scorers in the nation at over 20 ppg. Like big bro Stephen he is smallish and lacks true PG skills but I can say that as a Freshman he is even more advanced than Stephen. Just as deadly as a shooter. I was shocked Davidson didn't give him a scholarship, would have been amazing to see them lighting it up together. IMO he will probably stay local. UVA, VT, or UMD, possibly even WVU.

I didn't get the info from anyone affiliated with the Wildcat boards actually, it was from an Illini source that is a sports writer, he's got some inside info I guess and this guy is pretty accurate.

Now it could have nothing to do with Billy G but everyone has pretty much assumed that he is the main focus of the rumor. I'll let you know if I find out anything.

Rumor about the contract or his job status? The Memorandum of Understanding is a public document, that is signed for a fact and essentially the contract for the time being.

The best insider we've got is saying that there is a decent chance he is fired. He doesn't cater to boosters and is not very good with the media, that's part of the deal here and when you don't produce it's an even bigger deal.

Targets seem to be Billy Donovan first, then Travis Ford. Both may be able to retain Daniel Orton (especially Ford), Hood would stay for Donovan likely but I'm not sure on Ford. The rest of the recruits would not be large losses but would be easier to sell into coming. Anthony Grant is apparently holding up on job offers, could be in the event Florida comes open (for which he would be an immediate hire).

Last time Donovan had a lot more reasons to say no. Now he's coming off two NIT's, a fanbase that is in the middle of Teebowmania and not drawing anyone to the NIT games while UK could pack the house.

EDIT: Another massive concern I have about Gillispie leaving is does Patterson stay, Meeks almost has to.

2nd EDIT: There is another very very solid UK source saying that it's apparently set that Gillispie is gone and he already knows it... Ugh, what a mess.

Landon Milbourne the center for Maryland? You do realize he's a 200 pound probably closer to 6-5" natural SG/SF. Highly doubt he would be playing center. Also this does assume a lot of ACC guys declaring, but if that is the face of the ACC next year, it's definitely going to be a down year for the conference. Wake Forest would probably have the best team.

Maryland might just have to have Milbourne in there and be a smaller team because of their lack of size and Wake no doubt will have the talent but if Gaudio coaches the way he has they won't be going anywhere

Cuse, Kansas, Purdue, Tennessee are all ones to watch for next year, but Memphis is going to be beastley with or without john Wall

Don't sleep on Syracuse though.

PG - Flynn
SG - Devo
SF - Rautins/Wes Johnson
PF - Paul Harris
C - Onuaku

Everyone returns but Onganet. Then we have either Rautins/Johnson, Rick Jackson, Scoop Jardine, Mookie Jones, DaShonte Riley and Brandon Triche. This is one of our deepest teams ever plus all players in our starting lineup have a shot at the NBA. I would even argue that Rick Jackson has NBA potential. Definitely a serious national championship contending team.

Since all the cool kids are doing it...

Minnesota Gophers projected lineup

PG- Al Nolen JR
SG- Lawrence Westbrook SR
SF- Damian Johnson SR
PF- Royce White FR (5 star)
C- Ralph Sampson SO

Key bench players

PG/SG- Devoe Joseph SO
SF- Rodney Williams FR(4 star) Amazing athlete, youtube him
PF- Trevor Mbakwe JR (transfer)
PF/C Colton Iverson SO
SG- Blake Hoffarber JR
SF/PF- Paul Carter JR
SG- Devron Bostick SR
PG- Justin Cobbs FR

We bring everyone back from an NCAA tournament team along with the 23rd ranked recruiting class, but the Big 10 is going to be great next year, should be interesting to see where we fit in. We should be great defensively again with Nolen, Johnson, and Sampson, hopefully with another year of experience guys like Sampson and Iverson can develop their offensive games.

As for the newcomers Royce White should be an immediate contributer but Rodney Williams is basically an athlete at this point and his actual basketball skills are in question. It will be interesting to see what Tubby can do with him. Hopefully Justin Cobbs can fill in as the backup point and move Joseph to the 2. Mbakwe got minutes at Marquette his freshman year, and he is an athletic freak with a big body who can bang and rebound down low.

Grant should fit in pretty well in the ACC. Great shooter and just a really good scorer overall, some solid PG skills as well. Can really carry a team when he's hot. Pretty poor defender, though. I'll be rooting for him at the U.

All those stars are from Scout. I expect Chris Babb to step up and play a lot better for Penn State next season. Only key player we lose is Cornley, but that is a huge, huge loss. I think he is the reason why we won last night. I just want to see him when he is fully healthy. We offered Marcus Jordan, so maybe we can try and sway him to Penn State. lol.

Jordan's a good prospect if he could shore up his handle and get a consistent shot. He's got the athletic ability and he's very strong, definitely a D1 prospect.

PSU will be fine if DJ Jackson can play consistently well, instead of showing flashes. Andrew Jones really imporved his play as the season went on and should be able to put in 14 and 8 if he can stay out of fould trouble. Babb can definitely shoot and he's more versatile then Danny Morissey. Jeff Brooks would be a much better player if he abandoned his jump shot, its seriously the worst I've ever seen at the college level. He also needs to put on some muscle. From what I've heard, Frazier should be able to immediately slide into Pringle's role and score at will in transition and hopefully will be a better passer. Marshall was hurt last year so he's a wait and see kinda player. Overall I think this team won't drop if too much if at all. An NCAA birth is a possibility but 2011 is when they are gonna be scary good.

Im very excited for Michigan next year, honestly next season is when we were suppose to do what we did this year. I just hope Manny Harris doesnt be foolish and declare early, he is a 2nd round prospect at this point.

As long as he stays we return everyone except our 2 former walk on PG's. But I fully expect Grady to continue to improve and Darius Morris to get a lot of PT as Fr at the point. Matt Vogrich is going to fit right in as he is a perfect fit in Belein's system, another big time perimeter shooter with the size to get his shot up.

Rumors flying that Billy Donovan could be named the new coach at UK within the next 2 or 3 days. Apparently Calipari would accept however the head of our compliance office was at UMASS when Cal was there and is not a big fan, she also has a lot of pull.

Donovan has a clause in which there is no buyout if he accepts a job from March 1 to April 1, so if we go for him it will be shortly. Also, Anthony Grant has 5 days to decide on taking the Alabama job or not, if Donovan leaves UF then Grant is a lock to go there and Donovan would want him to take over. It's just one big mess.

Wow that would be brutal. Iowa was by no means a terrible team this year and all of those guys are underclassmen, any specific idea as to why they all want out?

Im very excited for Michigan next year, honestly next season is when we were suppose to do what we did this year. I just hope Manny Harris doesnt be foolish and declare early, he is a 2nd round prospect at this point.

As long as he stays we return everyone except our 2 former walk on PG's. But I fully expect Grady to continue to improve and Darius Morris to get a lot of PT as Fr at the point. Matt Vogrich is going to fit right in as he is a perfect fit in Belein's system, another big time perimeter shooter with the size to get his shot up.

To an extent, all 4 it is because of role on the team/playing time/type of offense. Jermaine Davis specifically said that he was confused about his role and future playing time, as well as saying that the offense is too slow. Kelly was rumored earlier in the year to have been unhappy with his role and playing time, but that changed at the end of the year. However, his mother died in the past year and he has wanted to move close to home to be with his family, but didn't have enough time before this season. So, transferring to Indiana State would make sense. Palmer and Peterson are both rumored to be unhappy about future playing time and roles on the team.

We also just had a 2010 commit reopen his recruitment, as well as rumors that other recruits may as well.

NC State may go after Gillispie. His office is already cleaned out.

Again I ask, why are Kentucky fans so sure (after being so sure and so wrong less than a year ago) that Donovan is going to take the job? What has drastically changed about the situation to change his mind?

Two years ago several have said he had reached an agreement to come here but bailed to go for the NBA. Many in the know have all agreed to the fact that there was a deal for him to come here which he backed out on. As he showed with Orlando, he has the ability to back out of a decision. Not to mention he's grown to be upset with the fans lack of interest lately. Calipari is also an option but I'm not sure the administration would be interested given his 'shadiness'. It doesn't bother me personally, given his reputation and UK's resources he wouldn't have to cheat to hand pick recruits.

I'd say Gillispie ends up at NC State or Texas Tech. Could go to 'Bama or Georgia, that would suck.

Pitt is a grind it out kind of team. They can do this every round and win the championship, because when it comes down to it they will always make the big defensive stop. Now that they got over the Sweet 16 hump which has haunted them they will now play looser. BTW Lavance Fields is such a G.

That's who I have them losing to. When they played during the regular season Nova beat them by 10, I think.

I definitely agree with this. They're scary as hell to watch if you've picked them though, and certainly allow teams to be in the game. But they seem to always find a way to pull out the W, and at the end of the tourney if they can continue to do that, nothing else really matters. It's just that allowing other teams (Providence) to stay in the games consistently gives you very little margin for error and a better chance of blowing it than somebody who can deliver knockout blows earlier and keep other teams behind by double digits over the course of a game. Pitt is damn consistent though.

I know the king of team they are but I don't know how well this is going to work against Villanova when it comes down to it.

I still think Nova can knock Pitt off.

Don't jinx it, we still have to beat Duke to get there.

I think it's great that Pitt keeps surviving these close games. It's the teams that aren't used to playing a tight game that suffer when they play a tough one. That's what worries me about UConn right now against a 1-2 seed.

Pitt was my pick to win it all, just a bunch of gritty tough kids. I am pulling hard for Nova tonight in 3 ways. First I love Nova and especially Scotty, Daunte, and Fisher. 2nd I hate Duke with a passion. Probably my least liked sports time in existence. I'd root for the Cowboys before I ever rooted for Duke. 3rd if Duke were to beat Nova they would have a good chance against Pitt because they would flop and cry their way into DeJuan Blair, Sam Young, and Lavance Fields being fouled out in the first half.

I think Memphis will win. One of the top 3 defenses in the country. Tyreke needs to stay in control, Dozier needs to play like a senior leader, Taggart needs to play big, Mack needs to keep some of that fire from the last round, and Sallie is the X factor. I know Antonio Anderson will bring a solid and mature all around game.

Both teams are very tough defensively, don't give up anything easy as far as passes go, like to turn teams over, contest shots, and don't like to allow layups, so I'm not shocked. Duke will score more when they start knocking down shots, though. For how poorly Duke has shot, Villanova should be doing a lot better. Their scorers haven't done much either though.
