IU doesn't have bad talent, but they are overachievers. They play great defense and are also a very good rebounding team despite having only two players that are over 6'9''. And if you think Ben Allen is a key bench player you don't know IU. The game will be close, to think it will be a blowout doesn't make sense. It will a tough win for us because we never seem to win on the road.
i disagree. we have crap talent. a key role player for us is ERIK SUHR!!!

AJ, DJ, Allen and Shaw were all 4-stars or better. Suhr is a key role player because he hustles and plays as hard as any player in the NCAA when he's out there. Don't think he's not talented either, the kid was an Indiana High School All-Star.

I think Indiana has a much better team this year, but this is a potential trap game for the Hoosiers. UConn has a ton of talent, and I always give the coaching edge to Jim Calhoun, especially when he's developing young kids. I think he and his assistants do a tremendous job every year with this.
Regardless, Indiana should be able to execute better than UConn and should win. Still, I wouldn't be shocked if UConn hung in there and earned a great character win.
:?:
You make it sound like IU is a favorite in this game. I don't think they are.
UCONN has more talent on the team.
I think that Indiana has more veterans on their team and are playing with more efficiency and toughness at this stage of the season. To me, Indiana has played much better than UConn to date. I believe Indiana should win this game if they execute. However, I believe UConn has more talent. The difference here is the youth of UConn. I think Indiana will control the tempo and will execute. I think they win by 7.
I wouldn't say we have veterans. We only have three seniors, one of which is a JUCO and the other doesn't play much.

For anyone in the NY metro area: some hoosier alumni will be watching the game at Kate Kaerney's followed by the IU bar (Proof) for post game. I plan on wearing the gameday shorts with a blue button up and red tie. Sampson attire baby. Gotta be passionate about gameday on Saturday's.

Better than UConn, who basically replaced its top 7 players from a year ago. There is at least decent continuity on the Indiana team. I think 20 year old players are generally more developed and ready to win than 18 year old players. The veterans can generally outflank more talented youngsters because they know more about the game and about success on the college level. UConn is still learning that.

Yea, Ohio State owned Northwestern...
But Wisconsin barely got by Purdue. Alando Tucker is the most annoying player in the NCAA, one because he always makes crazy ass shots and two because he always makes them at the right time.

Eh, wasn't really that bad of a win. It wasn't like the Northwestern were they played terrible. I'm not really concerned about this one.

Sean Williams dismissed from BC. Ugggghhhhh. What an idiot. That really hurts any chance BC had left to go far this season. With Williams gone we just lost most of our defense pretty much. McLain is a good player too but the loss of Williams overshadows anything else involving BC basketball now.

DJ and Shaw are the only 2 from that group that have remotely materialized. Shaw is showing signs so I'll give him the benefit of doubt, but AJ is a dope. And Allen...well let's just say when he graduates it will finally open up another scholarship. That's the best contribution he can give to the team.
I, too have been every disappointed in Allen. I still hope he can improve and be atleast a solid player off the bench. Obviously, with his size and shooting ability, he has the talent to be MUCH better then what he is.
I have been disappointed with Ratliff also, but at least he has been showing signs of life lately. I believe he still has one more year of eligibility, so hopefully he can still improve and finish his career on a strong note.
Our top recruits haven't been great, but several of our lesser-heralded guys have stepped up and played very well.

I applaud this decision. BC is portecting their reputation as a fine academic institution. (Unless FDK goes there, then all hell will break loose)
Williams will find his way in the NBA.
BTW does anyone know why John Garcia doesn't play for Seton Hall, he was an extremely regarded prospect coming out of Long Island two years ago. I know he got hurt last year but was penciled in as a starter this year.

UWM is terrible this year. I'm glad to hear you have given up on Duke though. I can't even make myself sit through a Panther game this year, but they seem to be getting good recruits. In the High School game on ESPN a couple nights ago it was the 22nd ranked school against the 1st and UWM is getting a starter from each team. I know he had to take the Tennesee job but I can't root for Pearl anymore. Jump on Wisconsin while you can.

Does anybody disagree that the University of Washington Huskies will be a powerhouse in years to come? Spencer Hawes isnt having a good enough season to declare for the draft, and we have Adrain Oliver and Quincy Pondexter tearing it up. In another season or two we're back on top.

Considering Hawes probably will declare and Pondexter may, who knows. However, with so many young players not fit for the NBA right now, I could see us being beastly next year. If they did happen to become a powerhouse, potentially Final Four team, the good portions of the team would all declare. We'll have to count on Romar to continue recruiting well.
Oh but first we should try to actually make the tournament this year, because at the rate we're going, we won't.

Illinois is a lot better than their record. And we showed that today.
Free throw shooting really hurt us in the this game. I think if we make our FT's, we win this ball game.
Also, 3 very bad calls down the stretch that even Majerus called the refs on. I'm not going to blame the refs here for our loss but you cannot make those calls in this type of game.
Credit to Wisky for the win, but I'm disappointed that we didn't pull this game out.

Right now we're probably in the NIT. A win against Wisky today really would have helped in this game.
People look at our record and think we are just a bad team, but as you saw today, we went toe to toe with the #3 team in the nation. And it's not like Wisky played bad, it was a well played game on both sides.
Like I said earlier, it's a game we let get away. But Wisky is very experienced and poised in games like this and they showed it. We really need to go on a run here in the Big 10, a very big run. And we probably need to make the Championship game of the Big 10 tourney.

Yeah, they're in a bad position now, but I really think the could make some noise in the Tourney. They have the good teams in the Big Ten out of the way so they have an easy schedule to finish on. It's then like you said the Big Ten Tournament. I don't think the have to go to the finals, the semis should do.

They looked good today, but I still wouldn't count on them to win any more than one tournament game if they got there. Their hardest games are behind them now until the Big 10 tournament, so unless they are truly dominant until then I don't think I'll be able to see it much differently

Good game by Rod Wilmont though, gotta give him that.
IU played very sloppy today. They made a lot of bad turnovers, fouled a lot and were outrebounded, something very rare for a Kelvin Sampson-coached team. They are a top 25 team and the 3rd best team in the Big Ten. This win is especially big because it came on the road, where IU rarely wins big games. I can't wait until Tuesday for Illinois. How did i flip flop? I am saying they're not doing that bad with only 3 losses. And i have been saying all along that this team may not dominate during the regular season like old duke teams, but they will be a major contender for the big dance.
No they won't. Hell last year they were a #1 seed and got bounced out early. This team is doing nothing in the Big Dance.
whatever you say sweetness. Duke's younger players are improving every game, and i think by march they will be solid. We'll see who's right in March.(me)

I am no longer a Blue Devil fan. I am a UW-Milwaukee Panther fan. Duke is an awful team. They are overrated. #17 is still too high, they are terrible. I will cheer for the Pearl if UWM does not make the tourney.
oh god, they're 15-3 . That's not exatly terrible. What do you expect from such a young team with paulus at the PG?

I think Jones and Kavaliauskasare just too much for Tech to handle inside. Prince is garbage and Dora prefers playing on the perimeter. Law and Jackson will cancel each other out but it will take a near perfect effor for A&M to be beaten tonight.

Well, Indiana is getting there asses handed to them right now.
They didn't get their asses handed to them. The game was a great defensive battle and IU played very sloppy. Fouled way too much and their best scorer decided not to show up. They settled for three's way too much, which was caused in part by Illinois' D, but they've been doing that all year. I thought they would be in for a letdown after that UConn game.

Btw, I thought the cell phone thing by the Krush was classic. And I'm glad Webbie shook Sanctions' hand. What Sampson did was very classless, oh well, move on. You can't dwell on it.
This is a big win for us IMO. It wasn't pretty, but hopefully this spring boards us to go on a roll in the Big 10.

They just showed the Sweet 16 run in 2005. That's what they need to return to. Next year I expect them to improve but still probably won't make the tournament.
Or they could just beat Butler and win the Horizon league tournament to get in this year.

I don't see that happening. They are just very young with losing their top 7 guys from last year, so I expect them to improove.

I know, it was kind of a joke. They absolutely suck this season. I was serious about the first part though. I could see them finishing 2 or 3 in the Horizon next year.
Well the UofI vs. Purdue game is not over yet but it basically is. Purdue whooping UofI's ass, and its really pissing me off being a UofI fan. There are a few things that are wrong.
A. The point guard position. Our starter chester fraizer while he plays with more heart than about anyone is just not very good, he can rebound and that is about it, he really showed why he only got offers from LaSalle and College of Charleston. Purdue was giving him about 10 feet of room to shoot when he had the ball at the 3 point line and fraizer would not shoot it and the one or two times he did he missed it. He should be benched for McCamey next year.
B. The lack of overall talent on the team. When a transfer from Dayton and Illinois State are two of your main reserves there are problems. Then there are guys like Jamar Smith and Chester Fraizer who just are not big ten calliber players. This issue goes hand in hand with poor recruiting since Weber had gotten here. This leads me to my next point.
C. Recruiting. Ever since Bruce Weber has gotten here he has been very poor at recruiting talent to UofI. We almost had Eric Gordon, but we all know what happened there. Anyways, Illinois is one of the most basketball talented states in the whole country if weber could recruit the top talent out of illinois we would be fine. He also does not do a great job of recruiting out of state either. I am not that dissapointed in this years class though, with Demetri McCamey and Quinton Watkins headlining the class. I think that if Weber does not start improving in recruiting Illinois should look for a new coach, because while I like Bruce Weber alot and think he is a good coach he needs to get Big Ten calliber players on UofI, then coach them up.
Well now I am done venting after todays dissapointing loss to Purdue, I guess I have to look ahead to next year because this year is not looking very bright.
The one time I want Illinois to win, they get their asses handed to them by Purdue. Damn.

Well now I am done venting after todays dissapointing loss to Purdue, I guess I have to look ahead to next year because this year is not looking very bright.
We did get Eric Gordon to committ to him, one of the best players of 07 before he took off for IU. So he can recruit. This year's class of Watkins, McCamey, Cole, and Tisdale is a very solid one with a chance to be good if Cole and Tisdale develop.
The problem with this team is execution on both ends. They don't hit consistently open shots, they tend to forget about Pruitt down low, they can't make free throws, and stuff like that.
Yea injuries have hurt this season, but guys need to start stepping up. And that's something that has not happened so far this season. We've got the talent to win ball games, hell we beat IU at the Hall and should have beaten Wisky at the Hall.
This is just not our year. And I have a bad feeling we'll be looking at the NIT for the postseason.

Michigan simply cant win a big game or beat a quality opponent. Starting 4 seniors this year, next year is just going to be awful. I really hope Amaker gets canned at the end of this season.

Wisconsin wins to become the first team to 20 wins, and extend the longest current win streak to 17 tying them win Clemson for longest of the year.

ok im an illinois fan also but what do you mean when you say darn good team? I dont really think that we can be that great of a team with the teams lack of basketball IQ, the worst FT and FG % in the big ten, and the guard play being poor this year especially the PG position, chester fraizer while I root for him is just not that good, there is no way a team should be able to sag ten feet off him when he has the ball on the perimeter.

Also how bout them Hokies? Another solid win over GT today and are now 6-1 in the conference. they will be a top 15-20 team when the new polls come out and i think they should be higher, around 10-12 because of their big wins of UNC and Duke.

Well, I guess the thought process of voters is, Florida is #1 until someone knocks them off.
I don't really put a lot of stock in top 25 rankings.
It's the rankings in the tournament that are A LOT more important.
Wisconsin is the best team in the nation in my opinion, but I think Max is right about why the voters kept Florida at #1. I'm not expecting much on Wednesday night.

Yeah this was a good win for the illini, they were able to hang on. Free throw shooting is a big problem. I also like how chester fraizer played of the bench today, I think that could be a good role for him. Also besides the free throw shooting shaun pruitt had a very good game. I also liked to see carwell getting out there and getting some minutes.

Chet came off the bench b/c he's really banged up. In fact he won't play on Saturday. The kid is tough as nails man. If he can get some consistent offense, he's going to be a darn good ball player.
Pruitt is a man-child, IF WE CAN GET HIM THE BALL CONSISTENTLY. He's unstoppable on the low block, which is scary b/c he's still got one more year after this.
Jamar Smith has fallen off the map. I think his ankles are messed up because he's shooting 7% from the 3 point line in the past 6 games. This from a guy who was the best freshman shooter last season in the Big 10.
Warren Carter has fallen off the map as well. He's not very agressive anymore, don't know why.
McBride has started to pick it up on both ends, which is what we really need from him.
Brock has turned out to be a nice player, and he's still got more room to grow in his game.
Randle, I don't know what's wrong with him. He's got incredible ability; I don't know if he's still banged up or what but he's just been kind of a waste this year.
And yes, I want more Carwell. He's got length and good defensive ability. Plus he's active around the glass. This kid is gonna be a STUD at Illinois. Just needs work on his offensive game but man he's talented.
Like I've said before. On paper we are not as bad as our record indicates. It's things like free throw shooting, dumb fouls, and making open shots that are keeping this team back. If we can start clicking, we'll be a dangerous team come tourney time IMO. That and injuries have just flat out killed us. In fact, BAM has a lot of trouble getting a full practice squad every day. Ugh, what a disappoint and frustrating year.

Um we already beat Indiana and Michigan State, both top 25 teams this season my friend. If we can go 6-2 or 7-1 the rest of the way, we'll get into the tourney, but that's a big "if" unless we can start making some free throws. We were about 14 of 30 from the FT line last night. Hell, give me 70% and we win this game by about 20 points.
Btw, I've been hearing that Clemson got jewed when they played you guys, what happened? I heard something about the clock. :?

IMO we have to get to the Semi's in the B10 tourney even if we win out in the Big 10. Right now I think we're on the fence.
Idk, this year has just been a disaster with everything that's happened. Injuries, suspensions, and just flat out bad luck. I mean one of the Purdue guys threw up about 3 30 foot shots with the shot clock winding down and made every one of them. And when I say "threw up," I meaned he just heaved them towards the hoop.

No offense to those teams, i like bolth of those teams actually, but they're not overly impressive wins.(BTW MSU isn't ranked top 25 , and indiana was bearly at number 24). Also having a couple of those wins isn't really too spectacular when you consistantly lose to below average teams and get spanked by any elite team.( OSU, Wisconsin) and good teams ( zona and maryland). Illinois can't hang with the big boys just yet.
Like i said, have fun in the NIT because you know your going to drop a couple more to the average at best teams you play the rest of the season, and the only respectable team you have a chance to win agianst agian is indiana.
Jewed? what would jerry seinfeld have to say to ?
Yeah, they put too much time on the clock  But it dosen't really matter because John would have knocked down a 35 footer like dockery did last year agianst VT anyways.

I sure would love a 5 star in Patterson, 4 star in Jai Lucas (great ball handler AND he can shoot the 3... could you imagine that?... Haven't had one of them since Tony Delk ) and we already have a 4 star in AJ Stewart. Just hope that Randolph stays, I really doubt it happens though.
I like Jasper but I'd really like to see a guy like Lucas running the point since he's actually a threat to shoot. Then next year having Meeks/Crawford/Ramel with one more year under their belt is gonna be sweet, then just hope that Randolph stays (which I doubt). Plus the added benefit of finally getting rid of Sheraye Thomas and Obrzut.

Finally i found another Kentucky fan. Patterson would be a great addition and would be able to play the 4 for us when Bobby Perry graduates. I love Jasper as a ballhandler and a defender, but he can't create anything on offense. He needs to learn how to shoot and drive. I think Meeks is going to be an incredible talent and our best player for the next couple of years. Crawford needs to do more besides just shooting three's. He is such a talented guy and could really do so much more. I have been impressed with Ramel Bradley latley. He really couldn't handle playing the point and has been doing a great job at scoring since he's been playing shooting guard. The key for Morris is that he has to stay out of foul trouble. When he gets two fouls early, Tubby has no choice but to take him out. This creates a huge size disadvantage for us and it allows the opponent to start scoring a lot down low.

IU won
Why are you shocked? Obviously they were underdogs, but they're a very good team.
There good. but i don't know about VERY good just yet. they have lost a couple questionable ones. I'm shocked b/c Wisconsin is my second pick to win the national title, and i didn't think they would lose this one.
:?:
They have lost to:
Butler
Duke
Kentucky
Ohio State
Illinois
None of the losses were at home, and only one came against an unranked opponent.
And all of those games were close.
Uk was ranked? news to me, but even i can be wrong.

Durant is a rebounding machine...20 and counting
Durant>Oden
I'd love to see oden spread the court with 3 points like durant. If that kid can put on some muscle he would destory everyone , but he's already an awsome player.

yeah, if it were up to me the player of the year wouldnt be a contest. whn you average 33 points and still have the ability to grab 20 boards as a SF i think that should be a lock
